Objectives: This study verified the possibility of cementing fiberglass-reinforced posts using a flowable bulk-fill composite (BF), comparing its push-out bond strength and microhardness with these properties of 3 luting materials. Materials and Methods: Sixty endodontically treated bovine roots were used. Posts were cemented using conventional dual-cured cement (CC); self-adhesive cement (SA); dual-cured composite (RC); and BF. Push-out bond strength (n = 10) and microhardness (n = 5) tests were performed after 1 week and 4 months of storage. Two-way repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA), 1-way ANOVA, t-test, and Tukey post-hoc tests were applied for the push-out bond strength and microhardness results; and Pearson correlation test was applied to verify the correlation between push-out bond strength and microhardness results (α = 0.05). Results: BF presented higher push-out bond strength than CC and SA in the cervical third before aging (p < 0.01). No differences were found between push-out bond strength before and after aging for all the luting materials (p = 0.84). Regarding hardness, only SA presented higher values measured before than after aging (p < 0.01). RC and BF did not present 80% of the maximum hardness at the apical regions. A strong positive correlation was found between the luting materials' push-out bond strength and microhardness (p < 0.01, R2 = 0.7912). Conclusions: The BF presented comparable or higher push-out bond strength and microhardness than the luting materials, which indicates that it could be used for cementing resin posts in situations where adequate light curing is possible.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether the newly introduced calcium silicate-based materials with fast-setting properties could be appropriately used as basement materials in indirect pulp treatment (IPT). This was performed by quantifying the durability of adhesion between the material and composite resin, measured by the shear bond strength (SBS). Five calcium silicate-based materials, TheraCal LC® (TLC), TheraCal PT® (TPT), TheraBase® (TB), Well-RootTM PT (WPT), and Endocem® MTA (EMTA), as well as two glass ionomer-based materials, Fuji II and Fuji II LC, were included. Specimens containing these materials were manufactured and bonded to composite resin with a universal adhesive applied in self-etch mode. The SBS values and failure modes were recorded, and the mean SBSs of the materials were compared. Both TPT and TB exhibited SBS values that were similar to TLC, while both WPT and EMTA appeared to have statistically lower SBS values. Mixed failure was commonly observed in TLC and TPT, while all WPT and EMTA samples showed cohesive failure. In comparison with TLC and TPT, more samples with cohesive failure were observed in TB, implying that this material forms a stronger bond with composite resin. Together with the ability of TB to chemically bind to dentin due to its 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate component, TB seems to be a promising material for IPT within the limitations of this in vitro study.
In this paper, the effect of silane-treated silicas and epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO) addition on adhesion properties of silicas-filled epoxy adhesives was examined. The silicas were treated by ${\gamma}$-methacryloxy propyltrimethoxy silane (MPS), ${\gamma}$-glycidoxy propyl trimethoxy silane (GPS), and ${\gamma}$-mercapto propyl trimethoxy silane (MCPS). Surface and structural properties of the adhesives were determined by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The t-peel strength of the adhesives was estimated using the universal testing machine (UTM). And, the equilibrium spreading pressure, surface free energy, and specific surface area were investigated by BET methods with $N_2$/77 K adsorption. As a result, the peel strength of the adhesives was increased in the presence of silane-treated silicas in the adhesives compared to that of untreated silicas. This result indicated that the silane coupling agent played an important role in improving the dispersion of silicas in epoxy adhesives. And, the adhesives treated by MCPS were superior to the others in adhesion.

Masonry structures are used as bearing walls in small buildings, but they are generally considered non-bearing walls. They are used as partition walls that divide the interior spaces of the frame structures of buildings. In addition, wetting techniques that use mortar as an adhesive between blocks or bricks in construction are vulnerable to climatic conditions, especially cracks in mortar, which can cause conduction collapse of the walls in seismic loading. The purpose of this research was to propose a dry concrete block construction method that complements the weak axial shear stiffness and improves the weakness of the wet construction method as well as to investigate its structural behavior. In this study, the material properties of concrete blocks were examined, and the seismic performance of the proposed dry assembly structure was verified by structural behavior tests on horizontal cyclic loads. First, in these study results, concrete blocks can be applied to the dry block construction method instead of wet construction methods because they secure more than C-type blocks in KS regulations. Second, the structural performance of the wall against a horizontal cyclic load indicates that the resisting force of the assembly block wall is increased by increasing the horizontal length of the wall, forming several diagonal cracks. Finally, the proposed dry block wall structure requires a seismic performance assessment considering that the ratio of the shape of the wall by height and length is considered a major influence variable on the structural behavior under a horizontal load.

Epoxy resin toughening agents such as core/shell nanoparticles, CTBN epoxy, polyester polyols, and polyurethane have been widely used in order to compensate for the brittleness and improve the impact resistance of the epoxy resin. In this work, a few tougheners mentioned above were individually added into adhesive compositions to observe the effects of physical and mechanical properties. Both flexural strength and flexural modulus were measured with UTM while impact strength was analyzed with Izod impact tester. The obtained results showed that the addition of toughening agents afforded positive performance in terms of flexibility and impact resistance of the cured epoxy resin. Furthermore, DMA experiments suggested that the trends of storage modulus data of each epoxy resin composition coincided with the trends of flexural modulus data. FE-SEM images showed that toughening agents formed circled-shape particles when it was cured in epoxy resin composition at high temperature by phase separation. The existence of particles in the cured samples explains why epoxy resin with toughener has higher impact resistance.
Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is the most common malignant salivary gland tumor which compromises about 6$\sim$8% of all tumors followed by the adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) and adenocarcinoma. Most deaths from salivary carcinomas are caused by recurrent or metastatic lesions that are resistant to conventional therapy. Therefore, knowledge of cellular properties and tumor-host interactions that influence the vascular metastasis is important for the design of more effective therapy of salivary carcinomas. Neoangiogenesis is essential for tumor growth, which is postulated to be fundamentally dependent on the induction of stromal neovascularization. However, how neovascularization takes place in live tissue has not been fully established, especially in recruitment and differentiation of endothelial cells in the salivary gland tumors. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a heparin-binding, dimeric polypeptide growth factor known to exert its mitogenic activity specifically on endothelial cells. VEGF has been shown th be directly involved in angiogenesis, which in essential for the pathogenesis of many solid tumors. von Willebrand factor (vWF) is a large multimeric protein synthesized by megakaryocytes and endothelial cells that enable platelets to adhere to exposed subendothelium and, as well, to respond to changes in the blood flow. Recent studies suggest that increased levels of vWF correlate with progression of disease, metastasis, or survival time and thus may have a prognostic significance. vWF is explained as an acute phase proteins which is increased in cancer or as a result of increased endothelial cell synthesis associated with tumor-induced angiogenesis. Due to adhesive properties of vWF, its increased concentrations may also contribute metastasis of tumor. In this study, we determined the mRNA expression of VEGF and vWF in salivary ACC, MEC and pleomorphic adenoma by in situ hybridization. As a result, stronger expression of VEGF and vWF was seen in salivary ACC and MEC which has more invasive nature than the salivary benign tumor.

In this study we have studied adhesive properties of various microorganisms onto surfaces of phosphorylcholine-based copolymer for the application of optical biosensors. Three microorganisms, E.coli JM109, B.cereus 318, P.pastoris X-33 were cultivated in confocal cultivation dishes with glass surface, respectively. The glass surface was coated with copolymer containing 0% 5% and 10% MPC (2-methacryloxyethyl phosphorylcholine). After cultivation, culture medium was discarded and adhered microorganisms were dyed by gram staining method. Adhered microorganisms were analyzed using an optical microscope and scanning electronic microscope (SEM). A great number of microorganisms, $2-3{\times}10^3/mm^2$ were adhered on the surfaces of glass and copolymer membrane without MPC. But the antifouling effects of copolymer containing 5% and 10% phosphorylcholine were large, that microorganisms of less than $50-100/mm^2$ were attached on the copolymer membranes. Thus, the copolymer containing phosphorylcholine is very useful as an antifouling coating material for optical biosensor.

Transparent conducting oxide (TCO) films are widely used for optoelectronic applications. Among TCO materials, zinc oxide (ZnO) has been studied extensively for its high optical transmission and electrical conduction. In this study, the effects of $O_2$ plasma pretreatment on the properties of Ga-doped ZnO films (GZO) on polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) substrate were studied. The $O_2$ plasma pretreatment process was used instead of conventional oxide buffer layers. The $O_2$ plasma treatment process has several merits compared with the oxide buffer layer treatment, especially on a mass production scale. In this process, an additional sputtering system for oxide composition is not needed and the plasma treatment process is easily adopted as an in-line process. GZO films were fabricated by RF magnetron sputtering process. To improve surface energy and adhesion between the PEN substrate and the GZO film, the $O_2$ plasma pre-treatment process was used prior to GZO sputtering. As the RF power and the treatment time increased, the contact angle decreased and the RMS surface roughness increased significantly. It is believed that the surface energy and adhesive force of the polymer surfaces increased with the $O_2$ plasma treatment and that the crystallinity and grain size of the GZO films increased. When the RF power was 100W and the treatment time was 120 sec in the $O_2$ plasma pretreatment process, the resistivity of the GZO films on the PEN substrate was $1.05\;{\times}\;10^{-3}{\Omega}-cm$, which is an appropriate range for most optoelectronic applications.
Physicochemical properties of HBA epoxy resins were controlled by varying hardener mixture and reactive diluent to improve applicability for stone conservation. The epoxy risen comprises hydrogenated Bisphenol-A based epoxide (HBA), fast curing agent (FH), slow curing agent poly(propyleneglycol)bis(2- aminopropylether) (SH) and difunctional polyglycidyl epoxide (DPE). Talc was used as an inorganic additive. The changes in viscosity and temperature during curing reactions depending on the composition of the epoxy resins were investigated. Additionally, bending, tensile and adhesive strengths were measured to identify the effective mechanical strength in stone conservation. Finally various compositions of epoxy resin/inorganic additives were developed for stone conservation by controlling cure kinetics and mechanical properties.

With difficulties during the cleaning of reflow flux residues due to the decrease of the part size and interconnection pitch in the advanced electronic devices, the need for the no-clean solder paste is increasing. In this study, an epoxy curable solder paste was made with SAC305 solder powder and the curable flux of which the main ingredient is epoxy resin and its reflow solderability, flux residue corrosivity and solder joint mechanical properties was investigated with comparison to the commercial rosin type solder paste. The fillet shape of the cured product around the reflowed solder joint revealed that the curing reaction occurred following the fluxing reaction and solder joint formation. The copper plate solderability test result also revealed that the wettability of the epoxy curable solder paste was comparable to those of the commercial rosin type solder pastes. In the highly accelerated temperature and humidity test, the cured product residue of the curable solder paste showed no corrosion of copper plate. From FT-IR analysis, it was considered to be resulted from the formation of tight bond through epoxy curing reaction. Ball shear, ball pull and die shear tests revealed that the adhesive bonding was formed with the solder surface and the increase of die shear strength of about 15~40% was achieved. It was considered that the epoxy curable solder paste could contribute to the improvement of the package reliability as well as the removal of the flux residue cleaning process.
