This study was aimed ultimately to develop an adsorption process treating heavy metal wastewater by utilizing activated carbon using flyash. The affecting factors in adsorption process on heavy metal by flyash adhesion-activated carbon are s follows. Factors such as pH, and quality of activated carbon, and reaction time made batch adsorption isotherm described adsorption capacity was made use of the investigation to evaluate adsorptive possibility of heavy metal. As the results of this study, H ion has influence on adsorption of heavy metal if pH is low. As reaction time is transformed, factors such as optimum reaction time is taken into consideration an adsorptive process of heavy metal because an adsorption and a reduction process occur. Adsorption isotherm of adhesion-activated carbon was generally obeyed to Freundlich formular than Langmuir formular and Freundlich constant, l/n were obtained in the range of 0.1~0.5.
The removal of hemoglobin from acrylic acid grafted Nylon fabrics has been investigated. In order to change detergency of Nylon 6 fabric, acrylic acid(AA) were graft copolymerized on Nylon fabric using ammonium persulfate(APS) as a initiator, and then acrylic acid grafted Nylon was treated with NaOH solution. The graft ratio increased linearly with increasing acrylic acid concentration. The graft ratio was the highest when the concentration of APS was 0.05%, and it decreased as the concentration of APS increased. The surface of Nylon fabric became rough due to graft. Moisture regain was increased by graft and alkaline treatment, contact angle was also improved compared with the ungrafted. The hemoglobin was easily solubilized and removed from grafted Nylon fabric, while it was difficult to remove hemoglobin from ungrafted Nylon fabric. The effects of graft on removal of hemoglobin was related with increase of moisture regain and transformation of COOH to COONa by alkaline treatment.
Adhesion of CVD W to the TiN glue layer in the blanket W process which is a promising candidate for filing contact holes in subhalfmicron ULSIs has been investigated. The adhesion was enhanced with increasing the W film thickness due to the decrease of the TiN film stress. The adhesion strength was increased by the sputter etching of the TiN surface prior to the W deposition owing to the removal of contaminants and the increase of the surface roughness. The adhesion of the W film to the TiN glue layer property was also improved by Ar ion implantation of the TiN surface owing to the activation of the TiN surface.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effect of the application method of 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) and its influence on the adhesion of fiberglass posts cemented with a self-adhesive resin cement. Materials and Methods: Sixty human mandibular premolars were endodontically treated and divided into 5 groups (n = 12), according to the canal irrigant and its application method: 2 groups with conventional syringe irrigation (CSI)-2.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) (control) and 2% CHX- and 3 groups with 2% CHX irrigation/activation-by passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI), Easy Clean file, and XP-Endo Finisher file. Two roots per group were evaluated for smear layer (SL) removal by scanning electron microscopy. For other roots, fiber posts were luted using a self-adhesive resin cement. The roots were sectioned into 6 slices for push-out bond strength (BS) (7/group) and nanoleakage (NL) (3/group). Data from SL removal were submitted to Kruskal-Wallis and Student-Newman-Keuls tests (α = 0.05). Data from BS and NL were evaluated by 2-way analysis of variance and Tukey's test (α = 0.05). Results: For SL removal and BS, the CHX irrigation/activation promoted better values than CSI with CHX (p < 0.05), but it was not significantly different from CSI with NaOCl (p > 0.05). For NL, the lowest values were obtained by the chlorhexidine irrigation/activation groups (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Active 2% CHX irrigation can be used to improve the post space cleaning and adhesion before fiber post cementation with self-adhesive resin cements.

The demand for Ru has been increasing in the electronic, chemical and semiconductor industry. Chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) is one of the fabrication processes for electrode formation and barrier layer removal. The abrasive particles can be easily contaminated on the top surface during the CMP process. This can induce adverse effects on subsequent patterning and film deposition processes. In this study, a post Ru CMP cleaning solution was formulated by using sodium periodate as an etchant and citric acid to modify the zeta potential of alumina particles and Ru surfaces. Ru film (150 nm thickness) was deposited on tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) films by the atomic layer deposition method. Ru wafers were cut into $2.0{\times}2.0$ cm pieces for the surface analysis and used for estimating PRE. A laser zeta potential analyzer (LEZA-600, Otsuka Electronics Co., Japan) was used to obtain the zeta potentials of alumina particles and the Ru surface. A contact angle analyzer (Phoenix 300, SEO, Korea) was used to measure the contact angle of the Ru surface. The adhesion force between an alumina particle and Ru wafer surface was measured by an atomic force microscope (AFM, XE-100, Park Systems, Korea). In a solution with citric acid, the zeta potential of the alumina surface was changed to a negative value due to the adsorption of negative citrate ions. However, the hydrous Ru oxide, which has positive surface charge, could be formed on Ru surface in citric acid solution at pH 6 and 8. At pH 6 and 8, relatively low particle removal efficiency was observed in citric acid solution due to the attractive force between the Ru surface and particles. At pH 10, the lowest adhesion force and highest cleaning efficiency were measured due to the repulsive force between the contaminated alumina particle and the Ru surface. The highest PRE was achieved in citric acid solution with NaIO4 below 0.01 M at pH 10.

In this study, effect of sputtering after plasma nitriding and before PVD coating on the microstucture, microhardness, surface roughness and the adhesion strength of CrN thin films were investigated. Experimental results showed that this sputtering process not only removed surface compound layer which formed during a plasma nitriding process but also induced an alteration of the surface of plasma nitrided substrate in terms of microhardness distribution and surface roughness, which in turn affected the adhesion strength of PVD coatings. After sputtering, microhardness distribution showed general decrease and the surface roughness became increased slightly. The critical shear stress measured from the scratch test on the CrN coatings showed an approximately twice increase in the binding strength through the sputtering prior to the coating and this could be attributed to a complete removal of compound layer from the plasma nitrided surface and to an increase in the surface roughness after sputtering.
In order to improve the properties of the copolymer and the terpolymer that was used as removal-type pressure sensitive adhesive(PSA), we synthesized quaterpolymer with the variation of the types of monomer, initiator, and solvent, and concentration, the monomer/solvent ratio, reaction temperature and time. and determined the properties of this adhesive: the viscosity, molecular weight, conversion, solid content and structure of polymer. The prepared polymer was crosslinked by changing the type of crosslinking agent and concentration, and then we investigated the characteristics or adhesive such as peel adhesion, shear adhesion, heat resistance, weathering resistance and peel adhesion to aging. The optimum performance of RA/2- EHA/MMA/2-HEMA as a PSA were obtained when benzoyl peroxide was used as an initiator with the reactant mixture consisted of 80% BA and 2-EHA, 15%, MMA, and 5% 2-HFMA. The optimum reaction temperature and time were $80^{\circ}C$ and 8 hours, respectively. For BA/2-EHA/MMA/AA, the optimum performance was obtained when the polymerization was performed at the monomer composition of 80% BA/2-EHA, 15% MMA, and 5% AA. BPO was used as initiator and the optimum reaction temperature and time were identical to those of BA/2-EHA/MMA/ 2-HEMA. Isocyanate and melamine were used to crosslink BA/2-EHA/MMA/2-HEMA and BA/2-EHA/MMA/AA, respectively. No effect on the type of cross-linking agent on the peel adhesion was observed with aging. The quarterpolymers crosslinked with melamine left residues on the counter surface after weathering resistance test, while the polymers crosslinked with isocyanate did not.

Ruthenium (Ru) is a white metal and belongs to platinum group which is very stable chemically and has a high work function. It has been widely studied to apply Ru as an electrode material in memory devices and a Cu diffusion barrier metal for Cu interconnection due to good electrical conductivity and adhesion property to Cu layer. To planarize deposited Ru layer, chemical mechanical planarization(CMP) was suggested. However, abrasive particle can induce particle contamination on the Ru layer surface during CMP process. In this study, zeta potentials of Ru and interaction force of alumina particles with Ru substrate were measured as a function of pH. The etch rate and oxidation behavior were measured as a function of chemical concentration of several organic acids and other acidic and alkaline chemicals. PRE (particle removal efficiency) was also evaluated in cleaning chemical.
Among a variety of cleaning processes, the cryogenic carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) cleaning has merits because it is highly efficient in removing very fine particles, innoxious to humans and does not produce residuals after the cleaning, which enables us to extend its area of coverage in the semi-conductor fabrication society. However, the cryogenic carbon dioxide cleaning method has some technical research issues in aspect to particles' adhesion and removal. To resolve these issues, performing an analysis for the identification of particle adhesion mechanism is needed. In this study, a research was performed by a theoretical approach. To this end, we extended the G-T (Greenwood-Tripp) model by applying the JKR (Johnson-Kendall-Roberts) and Lennard-Jones potential theories and the statistical characteristics of rough surface to investigate and identify the contact, adhesion and deformation mechanisms of soft or hard particles on the rough substrate. The statistical characteristics of the rough surface were taken into account through the employment of the normal probability distribution function of the asperity peaks on the substrate surface. The effects of surface roughness on the pull-off force for these particles were examined and discussed.

Recently, there have been several studies on the inspiration and application of optimized natural structures. One study introduced a new adhesion method that was inspired by the feet of geckos because of their superior features such as high adhesion strength, ease-of-removal, and they are environmentally friendly. Various micro- or nano-structures were fabricated and tested for gecko-like dry adhesives, but gecko-like dry adhesives that were developed became easily worn from frequent use. In this study, we propose a metal-coating method to improve the durability of gecko-like dry adhesives. We evaluate the initial adhesion strength and durability by performing repeated adhesion tests on a glass plate. The initial adhesive strength of gold-coated micro-structures was 60% of that for non-coated ones. However, the adhesive strength of gold-coated micro-structures was kept as 58% of their initial adhesion strength, while that of non-coated ones was only 40%.
