In addtion to a basic motion task, redundant manipulators can achieve some additional tasks by optimizing proper performance criteria. Some of performance criteria can be transformed to inequality constraints. So the redundancy resolving problem can be reformulated as a local optimization problem with equality constraints for the end effector and inequality constraints for some performance criteria. In this article, we propose a method for solving the inverse kinematics of a manipulator with redundancy using the Kuhn-Tucker theorem to incorporate inequality constraints. With proper choice of inequality constraints, the proposed method gives a way of optimizing multiple criteria in redundant manipulators.

Korean nuclear power plants (NPPs) have various radiation protection programs to attain radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). In terms of ALARA, this paper provides a comprehensive overview of administrative dose control for occupationally-exposed workers in Korean NPPs. In addition to dose limits, administrative dose constraints are implemented to resolve an inequity of radiation exposure in which some individuals in NPPs receive relatively higher doses than others. Occupational dose constraints in Korean NPPs are presented in this paper with the background of how those values were determined. For pressurized water reactors, 80% and 90% of the annual average limit for an effective dose, 20 mSv/y, are set as the primary and secondary dose constraints, respectively. Pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWRs) have also established the primary and secondary dose constraints corresponding to 70% and 80% of the effective dose limit, and additional constraints for tritium concentration are provided to control internal exposure in PHWRs. Follow-up measures for exceeding these administrative dose constraints are also introduced compared to exceeding the dose limits. Finally, analysis results of dose distributions show how the implementation of administrative dose constraints impacted the occupational dose distributions in Korean NPPs during the years 2009-2018.
The maximum weight of single stock in mutual fund is limited by regulations to enforce diversification. Under incomplete information with added constraints on portfolio weights, enhanced performance had been reported in previous researches. We analyze a weight vector to examine the effects of additional constraints on the portfolio's performance by computing the Euclidean distance from the in-sample tangency portfolio, as opposed to previous researches which analyzed ex-post return only. Empirical experiment was performed on Mean-variance and Minimum-variance model with Fama French's 30 industry portfolio and 10 industry portfolio for the last 1,000 months from August 1932 to November 2015. We find that diversification-constrained portfolios have 7% to 26% smaller Euclidean distances with the benchmark portfolio compared to those of unconstrained portfolios and 3% to 11% greater Sharpe Ratio.
This paper presents a new algorithm which evaluates production cost and reliability indices under various constraints of the thermal generation system. In order to consider the operational constraints of thermal units effectively, the proposed algorithm is based on Monte Carlo techniques instead of analytical ones which have difficulty in modelling the units with additional constraints. At that point, generating units are modelled into two types, base load units and peaking units. These generating unit models are used in state duration sampling simulation for which approach can readily consider the peaking unit operating cycles and easily calculates frequency-duration indices. The proposed production simulation algorithm is applied to the IEEE Reliability Test System, and performs the production simulation under the given constraints. The results show that the proposed algorithm is accurate, reliable and useful.
This paper proposes a systematic design methodology for the Takagi-Sugeno(TS) model based fuzzy control system with guaranteed stability and additional constraints on the closed-loop pole location. These combined two objectives are formulated as a system of LMIs(Linear Matrix Inequalities). Since LMIs intrinsically reflect constraints, they tend to offer more flexibility for combining various constraints on the closed-loop system. To demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed design methodology it is applied to the requlation problem of a nonlinear magnetic bearing system. Simulation results show that the proposed LMI-based design methodology yields not only maximized stability boundary but also the desired transient responses.
An anti-reset windup (ARW) based compensation method for state constrained control systems is studied. First, a linear controller is constructed to give a desirable nominal performance ignoring state-constraints of a plant. Then, an additional compensator is introduced to provide smooth performance degradation under state-constraints of the plant. This paper focuses on the effective design method of the additional compensator. By minimizing a reasonable performance index, the proposed compensator is expressed in terms of theplant and ocntroller parameters. The resulting dynamics of the compensated controller exhibits the dominant part of the linear closed-loop system which can be seen from the singular perturbation model reducton theory. THe proposed method guarantees total stability of overall resulting systems if linear controllers were constructed to meet certain condition.
For determining motion/structure of a 3-D rigid object from point correspondences over two perspective views, a linear algorithm was developed in Refs. 3 and 4. This algorithm fails when the 3-D points under observation satisfy certain geometrical constraints, as demonstrated in Refs. 7 and 8. In the present paper, we show that the linear algorithm can be resurrected in these degenerate cases by adding additional lower order polynomial constraints to original equations.
This paper presents a fuzzy dynamic output feedback controller design method for Parallel Distributed Compensation (PDC)-type Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) model based fuzzy dynamic system with H$\infty$ performance and additional constraints on the closed pole placement. Design condition for these controller is obtained in terms of the linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The proposed fuzzy controller satisfies the disturbance rejection performance and the desired transient response. The design method is verified by this method for an inverted pendulum with a cart using the proposed method.
Purpose: This study seeks to explore the impact of COVID-19-induced boredom, a prevalent form of pandemic-related stress, on travel motivation and post-pandemic travel intentions. Additionally, it examines the interplay among travel motivation, travel constraints, and the willingness to pay more for travel experiences in the post-pandemic context. Methods: A PLS-SEM analysis was conducted to analyze the data. Data collection took place through an online survey in February and March 2021, with a total of 575 respondents participating. Participants provided responses regarding their current levels of boredom due to COVID-19, five different travel motivations, seven travel constraints, and their post-pandemic travel intentions. Additionally, participants were asked about their willingness to pay more for travel. Results: This study highlights the significant role of COVID-19-induced boredom in predicting post-pandemic travel intentions and the willingness to pay more for travel. Contrary to previous perceptions, boredom emerges as a driving factor, enhancing travel intentions during the pandemic. Additionally, relaxation becomes the primary motivation for travel during COVID-19, and structural constraints exert a noticeable impact on travel intentions, challenging previous assumptions. Stress levels directly influence the willingness to pay more during travel experiences, expanding the understanding of additional payment behavior in the context of travel. Conclusion: This study offers practical insights for tourism stakeholders. Recognizing and addressing boredom in marketing strategies, implementing aggressive additional payment options, and focusing on relaxation-oriented travel products are recommended to cater to post-pandemic traveler preferences and revive the tourism industry effectively.
In this paper, we study how to achieve the maximum capacity under delay constraints for large mobile wireless networks. We develop a systematic methodology for studying this problem in the asymptotic region when the number of nodes n in the network is large. We first identify a number of key parameters for a large class of scheduling schemes, and investigate the inherent tradeoffs among the capacity, the delay, and these scheduling parameters. Based on these inherent tradeoffs, we are able to compute the upper bound on the maximum per-node capacity of a large mobile wireless network under given delay constraints. Further, in the process of proving the upper bound, we are able to identify the optimal values of the key scheduling parameters. Knowing these optimal values, we can then develop scheduling schemes that achieve the upper bound up to some logarithmic factor, which suggests that our upper bound is fairly tight. We have applied this methodology to both the i.i.d. mobility model and the random way-point mobility model. In both cases, our methodology allows us to develop new scheduling schemes that can achieve larger capacity than previous proposals under the same delay constraints. In particular, for the i.i.d. mobility model, our scheme can achieve (n-1/3/log3/2 n) per-node capacity with constant delay. This demonstrates that, under the i.i.d. mobility model, mobility increases the capacity even with constant delays. Our methodology can also be extended to incorporate additional scheduling constraints.
