  • The analysis of existing XML documents and other documents was centered on words. It can be implemented using a morpheme analyzer, but it can classify many words in the document and cannot grasp the core contents of the document. In order for a user to efficiently understand a document, a paragraph containing a main word must be extracted and presented to the user. The proposed system retrieves keyword in the normalized XML document. Then, the user extracts the paragraphs containing the keyword inputted for searching and displays them to the user. In addition, the frequency and weight of the keyword used in the search are informed to the user, and the order of the extracted paragraphs and the redundancy elimination function are minimized so that the user can understand the document. The proposed system can minimize the time and effort required to understand the document by allowing the user to understand the document without reading the whole document.

  • Solvolyses of 3,4-dimethoxybenzenesulfonyl chloride (DSC) in water, D2O, CH3OD, and in aqueous binary mixtures of acetone, acetonitrile, 1,4-dioxane, ethanol, methanol, and 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFE) have been investigated at 25.0 oC. Kinetic solvent isotope effects (KSIE) in water and in methanol and product selectivities in alcohol-water mixtures are also reported. The Grunwald-Winstein plot of first-order rate constants for the solvolyic reaction of DSC with YCl shows marked dispersions into separated lines for various aqueous mixtures. With use of the extended Grunwald-Winstein equation, the l and m values obtained are 1.12 and 0.58 respectively for the solvolyses of DSC. The relatively large magnitude of l is consistent with substantial nucleophilic solvent assistance. From Grunwald-Winstein plots the rate data are dissected approximately into contributions from two competing reaction channels. This interpretation is supported for alcohol-water mixtures by the trends of product selectivities, which show a maximum for ethanol-water mixtures. From the KSIE of 1.45 in methanol, it is proposed that the reaction channel favored in methanolwater mixtures and in all less polar media is general-base catalysed and/or is possibly (but less likely) an addition-elimination pathway. Also, the KISE value of 1.35 for DSC in water is expected for SN2-SN1 processes, with minimal general base catalysis, and this mechanism is proposed for solvolyses in the most polar media.

  • [ $B_4C$ ] ceramics were fabricated by spark plasma sintering process and their sintering behavior, microstructure and mechanical properties were evaluated. Relative density of $B_4C$ ceramics were obtained by spark plasma sintering method reached as high as 99% at lower temperature than conventional sintering method, in addition, without any sintering additives. The mechanical properties of $B_4C$ ceramics was improved by a methanol washing process which can be removed $B_2O_3$ phase from a $B_4C$ powder surface. This improvement results ken the formation of homogeneous microstructure because the grain coarsening was suppressed by the elimination of $B_2O_3$ phase. Particularly, fracture toughness of the sintered specimen using a methanol washed powder improved over 30% compared with the specimen using an as-received commercial powder.

  • In recent years, voltage source multilevel converters are very popular in medium/high-voltage industrial applications, among which the NPC/H-Bridge converter is a popular solution to the medium/high-voltage drive systems. The conventional finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) strategy is not practical for multilevel converters due to their substantial calculation requirements, especially under high number of voltage levels. To solve this problem, a hierarchical model predictive voltage control (HMPVC) strategy with referring to the implementation of g-h coordinate space vector modulation (SVM) is proposed. By the hierarchical structure of different cost functions, load currents can be controlled well and common mode voltage can be maintained at low values. The proposed strategy could be easily expanded to the systems with high number of voltage levels while the amount of required calculation is significantly reduced and the advantages of the conventional FCS-MPC strategy are reserved. In addition, a HMPVC-based field oriented control scheme is applied to a drive system with the NPC/H-Bridge converter. Both steady-state and transient performances are evaluated by simulations and experiments with a down-scaled NPC/H-Bridge converter prototype under various conditions, which validate the proposed HMPVC strategy.

  • Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate is a key intermediate in several central metabolic pathways of all organisms. Aldolase and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase are involved in the production or elimination of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate during glycolysis or gluconeogenesis, and are differentially expressed under various physiological conditions, including cancer, hypoxia, and apoptosis. In this study, we examine the effects of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate on cell survival and apoptosis. Overexpression of aldolase protected cells against apoptosis, and addition of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate to cells delayed apoptosis. Additionally, delayed apoptotic phenomena were observed when glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate was added to a cell-free system, in which artificial apoptotic process was induced by adding dATP and cytochrome c. Surprisingly, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate directly suppressed caspase-3 activity in a reversible noncompetitive mode, preventing caspase-dependent proteolysis. Based on these results, we suggest that glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate, a key molecule in several central metabolic pathways, functions as a molecule switch between cell survival and apoptosis.

  • The rate constants for the hydrolysis of benzenesulfonylimido phosgene at various pH were determined by ultraviolet spectrophotometry in 1 : 4 dioxane-water mixed solvents at 25$^{\circ}$C and a rate equation which can be applied over a wide pH range was obtained. Based on the Grunwald-Winstein equation, m = 0.4 was obtained. The thermodynamic activation parameters for the hydrolysis were ${\Delta}H^{\neq}$ = 15kcal mol$^{-1}$, ${\Delta}S^{\neq}$ = 21e.u. at pH 4.0 and $ {\Delta}H^{\neq}$ = 8kcal. mol$^{-1}$, ${\Delta}S^{\neq}$ = -39e.u. at pH 11.0, respectively. It was concluded that the hydrolysis of benzenesulfonylimido phosgene in 1 : 4 dioxane-water mixed solvents proceed via nucleophilic addition-elimination.

  • Exposure to formaldehyde(FA) is closely associated with adverse health effects such as irritation, inflammation, and squamous cell carcinomas of the nasal cavities. Owing to its rapid metabolism and elimination, exposure to FA does not always result in an increased concentration in blood or urine of animals and humans. Therefore, the development of biomarkers for FA exposure is necessary for risk assessment. In the present study, the effects of FA were investigated on the expression of genes involved in the MAPK pathway in vitro and results confirmed in rats exposed to FA by inhalation. Treatment of Hs 680.Tr human tracheal epithelial cells with FA induced gene expression for PDGFA, TNFSF11, SHC1, and HRAS. HRAS expression was also increased in tracheas of rats exposed to FA. In addition, FA exposure induced the expression of RASSF4, a member of the Rasassociation domain family of Ras effectors, in rat tracheas. In conclusion, data showed FA-inducible expression of genes involved in the MAPK pathway occurred and increased expression of HRAS and RASSF4 was noted in rat tracheas subchronically exposed to FA by inhalation. These genes may serve as molecular targets of FA toxicity facilitating the understanding of the toxic mechanism.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of ticlopidine on the pharmacokinetics of diltiazem and its active metabolite, desacetyldiltiazem, in rats. Pharmacokinetic parameters of diltiazem and desacetyldiltiazem were determined in rats after oral administration of diltiazem (15 $mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$) with ticlopidine (3 or 9 $mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$). The effects of ticlopidine on P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4 activities were also evaluated. Ticlopidine inhibited CYP3A4 enzyme activity in a concentrationdependent manner with a 50% inhibition concentration ($IC_{50}$) of 35 ${\mu}M$. In addition, ticlopidine did not significantly enhance the cellular accumulation of rhodamine-123 in NCI/ADR-RES cells overexpressing P-gp. Compared with the control (given diltiazem alone), ticlopidine significantly altered the pharmacokinetic parameters of diltiazem. The peak concentration ($C_{max}$) and the area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) of diltiazem were significantly (9 $mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$, p<0.05) increased in the presence of ticlopidine. The AUC of diltiazem was increased by 1.44-fold in rats in the presence of ticlopidine (9 $mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$). Consequently, the absolute bioavailability (A.B.) of diltiazem in the presence of ticlopidine (9.3-11.5%) was signifi cantly higher (9 $mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$, p<0.05) than that in the control group (8.0%). Although ticlopidine significantly (p<0.05) increased the AUC of desacetyldiltiazem, the metabolite-parent AUC ratio (M.R.) in the presence of ticlopidine (9 $mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$) was significantly decreased compared to that in the control group, implying that ticlopidine could effectively inhibit the metabolism of diltiazem. In conclusion, the concomitant use of ticlopidine significantly enhanced the oral bioavailability of diltiazem in rats by inhibiting CYP3A4-mediated metabolism in the intestine and/or liver rather than by inhibiting intestinal P-gp activity or renal elimination of diltiazem.

  • This paper describes a Delay Locked Loop (DLL) circuit having two advancements : 1) a dual loop operation for a wide lock-range and 2) programmable replica delays using antifuse circuitry and internal voltage generator for a post-package skew calibration. The dual loop operation uses information from the initial time-difference between reference clock and internal clock to select one of the differential internal loops. This increases the lock-range of the DLL to the lower frequency. In addition, incorporation with the programmable replica delay using antifuse circuitry and internal voltage generator allows for the elimination of skews between external clock and internal clock that occur from on and off-chip variations after the package process. The proposed DLL, fabricated on 0.16m process, operates over the wide range of 42MHz - 400MHz with 2.3v power supply. The measured results show 43psec peak-to-peak jitter and 4.71psec ms jitter consuming 52㎽ at 400MHz.
