The Rehabilitation of Gambling Addiction: Comparison with the other psychiatric disorder (도박중독의 재활: 타 정신장애와의 비교)

  • This study reviewed the present state and differences of rehabilitation programs of the gambling addiction by comparing with other psychiatric disorder(including psychotic disability and alcohol addiction). This study also intended to suggest necessities, meanings and inherent fields of the rehabilitation in gambling addiction. First of all, the government and a few gambling industries run clinic centers for gamblers and their families, but have been lacked rehabilitation services for social comeback and adaptation or devaluated rehabilitation services than therapies. Gambling addict didn't have impairments of the cognitive function and their daily abilities was better than any other psychiatric disorders. But Damage of social role or function of gambling addiction was severe. And it is caused by nonadaptive nature of gambling behavior, personality/emotional change through gambling addiction process, and previous personality problem etc. There are many severe failure of social role and its attendant bankrupcy, family's problems and social poverty in gambling addiction, Therefore, important fields in the rehabilitation of gambling addiction should be services for basic social comeback support service, credit recovery support, monetary management, support of rehabilitation of family and vocational rehabilitation. Finally, the significance and critical points of the current study has been discussed as well.

A Study on the Deactivating Factors of System for Compulsory Treatment and Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers in Korea (한국 마약류 중독자 치료보호제도 활성화 저해요인에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to identify hinderance factors impeding a invigoration of treatment and protection system for drug abusers and provide an alternative plan to solve it from a viewpoint of alcoholism treatment experts. To achieve the goal, a research and service report on treatment and protection work was secondarily obtained and 58 cases of alcoholism treatment experts were extracted and analysed. The collected data were analysed with deducted content analysis proposed by Elo and Kynga(2008), and hinderance factors impeding a invigoration of treatment and protection system for drug abusers were discovered by 8 categories including 'cognition of a patient problem', 'condition of a patient problem', 'worker problem', 'agency problem', 'treatment program problem', 'budget problem', 'selection of test object problem', 'system problem'. According to the result, alternatives including plenty information and prior education for a recipient, a management on a patient's supportive system, an operation of independent hospital ward for drug, a provision of an incentive pay on treatment experts and agencies, an establishment of rehabilitation institute, a development of systematic program offering treatment, rehabilitation and self support, a budget increase and effective ways to utilize, strengthening a communication between the prosecution and treatment ad protection institutions, an assurance of enough treatment and protection period, an introduction of mandatory treatment system and a development of integrated manual for workers were suggested.

The recovery experience of male alcoholic s based on a life history study (생애사연구를 통해 본 남성 알코올 중독자의 회복 경험)

  • This study is about a life history of a male recovered alcohol addict. The purpose of this study was to understand the cause of addiction of alcoholics in the life of male alcoholics, Find out the factors that affect the cause, and aims to understand alcohol-recovery experience. This study included male alcohol addicts recovering for more than 10 years. this study based on life-history analysis framework suggested by Mandelbaum(1973) on life history and divides the study points into 'dimension of life,' 'turning point' and 'adaptation . The results of this study are as follows: first, 'dimension of life' of the study participant was divided into several sectors for the analysis including'the day my father failed', 'a young day like a castle bulit on sand', 'the married life was locked up liquor bottle', 'the dead end, a life left alone . The 'turning point' was revealed as 'attempted suicide, and a desire for desirable life', 'a rope came down from the sky, the basic living security patment', 'open a new door, go into the welfare center . The 'adaptation' was derived from the 'loneliness chosen to escape from addiction', 'fill empty time and space', 'overcoming with fairy godmother . Based on these results, this study presents iscussions on social welfare practices and policies.
