  • The guidance controller of the conventional aircraft consists of inner-loop (autopilot) and outer-loop (guidance). If the guidance controller can be designed as an integrated guidance and control (IGC), the various advantages exist. The integrated guidance and control formulation can compensate for the effect of autopilot lag. An integrated approach also helps avoid the iterative procedure involved in tuning the guidance and autopilot subsystems, if designed separately. Integrated design is also less susceptible to saturation and stability problems. This paper presents an approach to IGC design for the unpowered air vehicle with the only flaperon using a combination of adaptive output feedback inversion and backstepping techniques. Adaptive neural networks are trained online with available measurements to compensate for unmodeled nonlinearities in the design process.

  • In brake systems, a proportioning valve(P. V), which reduces the brake line pressure on each wheel cylinder for the anti-locking of rear wheels, is closely related to the safety of vehicles. However, it is impossible for current P. V. s to completely control brake line pressure because, mechanically, it is an open loop control system. In this paper we describe an electronic brake force distribution system using a direct adaptive fuzzy controller in order to completely control brake line pressure using a closed loop control system. The objective of the electronic brake force distribution system is to change the cut-in-pressure and the valve slop of the P. V in order to obtain better performance of the brake system than with mechanical systems.

  • A typical method to control the single-phase power converter system is to utilize the zero-crossing PLL. However, this method is vulnerable to the voltage disturbance and affects the performance of controller. This paper proposes a new single-phase PLL system that is composed of the adaptive linear combiner and the PI control. The operational principle was analyzed through theoretical approach and the performance was verified through simulations with MATLAB. The proposed PLL system shows rapidness and robustness in control under the voltage disturbances such as the sag, harmonics, and phase jump.

  • This paper proposes an indirect adaptive fuzzy controller for general SISO nonlinear systems. No a priori information on bounding constants of uncertainties including reconstruction errors and optimal fuzzy parameters is needed. The control law and the update laws for fuzzy rule structure and estimates of fuzzy parameters and bounding constants are determined so that the Lyapunov stability of the whole closed loop system is guaranteed. The computer simulation results for an inverted pendulum system show the performance of the proposed robust adaptive fuzzy controller.

  • Adaptive control system has evolved as an attempt to avoid degradation of the dynamic performance of a control system when environmental variations occurs. While the feedback control system is oriented toward the elimination of the effect of state perturbations, the adaptive control system is oriented toward the elimination of the effect of structural perturbation, upon the performances of the control system. The model reference adaptive controller is utilized in velocity loop controller for positioning and tracking is designed based on the linear decoupled dynamics.

  • In this paper, the adaptive controller for the turret gun is discussed which uses model reference adaptive technique based on the Lyapunov direct method. Turret gun can be decomposed into two time-invariant SISO control systems. One is for the elevation angle control and the other is for the azimuth angle control under the assumption of independence each other. Thus we only consider here about the control loop for the elevation angle.

  • This paper presents an adaptive receding horizon H$_{\infty}$ controller for the linear parameter varying systems in the deterministic environment, which combines a parameter range estimator and a robust receding horizon H$_{\infty}$ controller using the parameter bounds. Using parameter set inclusion and terminal inequality condition, the closed-loop system stability is guaranteed. It is shown that the stabilizing adaptive receding horizon H$_{\infty}$ controller guarantees the H$_{\infty}$ norm bound.

  • In this paper, we propose a low-complexity loop filtering method depending on transform-block regions. Block adaptive loop filter (BALF) was developed to improve about 10% in compression performance for the next generation video coding. The BALF employs the Wiener filter that makes reconstructed frames close to the original ones and transmits filter-related information. However, the BALF requires high computational complexity, while it can achieve high compression performance because the block adaptive loop filter is applied to all the pixels in blocks. The proposed method is a new loop filter that classifies pixels in a block into inner and boundary regions based on the characteristics of the integer transform and derives optimum filters for each region. Then, it applies the selected filters for the inner and/or boundary regions. The decoder complexity can be adjusted by selecting region-dependent filter to be used in the decoder side. We found that the proposed algorithm can reduce 35.5% of computational complexity with 2.56% of compression loss, in case that only boundary filter is used.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive backstepping controller to control the exact position and orientation of a remotely operated underwater vehicle with parametric model uncertainty. To further improve the angular velocity control precision of each thruster, a phase locked loop (PLL) controller has been added to the backstepping controller. A comparison of two backstepping controllers with and without the PLL control loop has been performed using simulations and experiments. The test results showed that the tracking performance could be improved by using the PLL control loop in the proposed adaptive backstepping controller.

  • This paper presents a reliability-based shape optimization (RBSO) using the evolutionary structural optimization (ESO). An actual design involves uncertain conditions such as material property, operational load, poisson's ratio and dimensional variation. The deterministic optimization (DO) is obtained without considering of uncertainties related to the uncertainty parameters. However, the RBSO can consider the uncertainty variables because it has the probabilistic constraints. In order to determine whether the probabilistic constraint is satisfied or not, simulation techniques and approximation methods are developed. In this paper, the reliability-based shape design optimization method is proposed by utilization the reliability index approach (RIA), performance measure approach (PMA), single-loop single-vector (SLSV), adaptive-loop (ADL) are adopted to evaluate the probabilistic constraint. In order to apply the ESO method to the RBSO, a sensitivity number is defined as the change of strain energy in the displacement constraint. Numerical examples are presented to compare the DO with the RBSO. The results of design example show that the RBSO model is more reliable than deterministic optimization.
