  • When multimedia contents are adapted to different terminals in the ubiquitous computing environment, the contents' modalities can be converted variously. In this paper, we present an efficient user preference that enable user to specify his choices on the modalities of the adapted contents. We also propose the methods to systematically integrate the user preference into the content adaptation process. This modality conversion preference has been developed as a description tool for MPEG-21 Digital Item Adaptation (DIA).

  • We performed the cross-cultural adaptation process directed at the translation into Korean of the Pain Visual Analogue Scale, the Self-Report of Improvement and the Beacke Physical Activity Questionnaire for Older Adults. This project will help ensure that the Korean versions of these measures retain their meaning and measurement properties when applied to the Korean language and culture. This will help reduce measurement error in the RCT. This research should be of value to other researchers who wish to study older adults with rheumatological conditions.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the correlation between Truth(道) and dimension through the understanding of architectural point of value in the aspect of correlation between modern western thoughts and the thoughts of Truth and also through the reading of what kind of composite trend of the Truth can be seen in a Korea traditional house. This stduy takes the following procedure with reference books and traditional house that we have. 1) Making foundation for this study by finding out the fundamental meaning of the thoughts of Truth through the comparing and analyzing between modern western thoughts and the thoughts of Truth. 2) Reviewing the understanding of dimension in the thoughts of Truth. 3) Traslation of the organic correlation through the analysis of composition, placement and characteristics of dimension in a real present traditional Korea house. 4) Finding out the meaning of each dimension through the adaptation of the fundamental rules of nature of Jane(藏:store), Sang(生:life), Jang(長:long), Su(收obtain) to the dimension composite of a traditional house and concluding that the cyclical process in the oriental thoughts could be made.

  • The article demonstrates a method of studying human health and nutrition by applying a multi-disciplinary approach and examines how humans developed and survived by adjusting to their environment. This process involves physiological, cultural and genetic adaptation both independently and interactively. This study postulates that a sound human health may be the result of balance between nutrition and environmental conditions. It is noted that there is a positive correlation between malaria and fava bean intake, and sickle cell anemia and cassava intake. It is also suggested that the difference in disease structure in soybean and non-soybean consumption cultures can be explained by an ecological approach to studying nutrition. This study further suggest that the relationship between nutrition and socio-cultural system. epidmiological study of nutrition and cultural environment nutrition and conceptual characteristics, nutrition and food intake pattern, nutrition and health sociological functions and the physioloical, cultural and genetic adaptation can all be stimulating research subjects to be studied form and ecological point of view. This article also includes the results from a series of ecological studies conducted by the author investigating the relationship between nutritional status of Korean breast-feeding mothers and the composition of the human milk and also the Vitamin D status of Korean and their lifestyle. • Scalable video coding (SVC) has been standardized as an extension of the H.264/AVC standard. SVC allows straightforward adaptation of video streams by providing layered bit streams. In this paper, we propose a SVC video-based multicasting system preserving scalable security which is able to provide a SVC video service while maintaining information security. In order to maintain information security between a server and a client during all transmission time, the proposed system immediately performs a packet filtering process without decoding with respect to encrypted data received in a routing device, thereby reducing an amount of calculations and latency.

  • This study is on the spacial flexbility of house. In the recent days, it is true that the qualitative aspect of residence rather than the quantitative one has emphasized. But the inhabitants of residence undergo adaptation problems to deal with changing needs constantly. Residence must be the place to satisfy inhabitant's desire to live and dwell. According to changes in family life cylce and personal demand, the flexibility in housing should be beneficial. This study attempts to solve relationships of these need changes and inhabitant's adaptation through the spatial flexibility. Throughout the process of main discourse, some theoretical backgrounds of housing are applied. And to introduce the flexibility of residential space, concepts of flexibility according to 'time' and 'spatial structure' are employed. In addition to functionality and comfort, living should provide a touch of humanity attuned to individual sensibilities. The purpose of this study is to suggest a method can move interior structure by the flexible planning.

  • Slipping during various kinds of movement often leads to potentially dangerous incidents of falling. The purpose of this paper was to review some of the research performed in the field including such topics as rating scales for balance, kinematics and kinetics of slipping, adaptation to slippery conditions, postural and balance control, and protective movement during falling. Controlling slipping and fall injuries requires a multifaceted approach. Environmental conditions (state of floor surface, tidiness, lighting, etc), work task (walking, carrying, pushing, lifting, etc), and human behavior (anticipation of hazards, adaptation to risks, risk taking, etc) must be accounted for in the assessment of slip and fall-related risks. Future directions of research must deal with modeling of basic tribophysical, biomechanical, and postural control process involved in slipping and falling.

  • In this paper, some candidates suggested for the improvement of the robustness in adaptive control systems are shortly surveyed. Using dead zone concept of error in adaptation process, gain retardation methods such as .sigma.-modification and parameter restriction method are those considered. Feedforward compensation and normalized adaptation technique are also considered. New modeling technique suggested by Donati et al is used for the indirect control of plants containing unmodeled dynamics. The frequency band of input signal, which is used as a test signal and control signal simultaneously, is directly related to the control of plants containing high frequency parastics. Computer simulation results of the some selected algorithms are shown.

  • In this study, a new methodology in predicting a system output has been investigated by applying a data mining technique and a hybrid type II fuzzy system in CNC turning operations. The purpose was to generate a supplemental control function under the dynamic machining environment, where unforeseeable changes may occur frequently. Two different types of membership functions were developed for the fuzzy logic systems and also by combining the two types, a hybrid system was generated. Genetic algorithm was used for fuzzy adaptation in the control system. Fuzzy rules are automatically modified in the process of genetic algorithm training. The computational results showed that the hybrid system with a genetic adaptation generated a far better accuracy. The hybrid fuzzy system with genetic algorithm training demonstrated more effective prediction capability and a strong potential for the implementation into existing control functions.

  • A new adaptation algorithm for the digital predistorter is presented. The proposed technique employs the real-time transmitted signals through HPA for the table update. Hence the proposed algorithm does not depend on modulation format and the signal transmission of HPA is not affected during the adaptation process. The experimental results are presented to verify the proposed method and we obtained about 8.4 dB of ACPR improvement.
