Car Ride Safety and Comfort Analysis considering Low-frequency Vibration of Car Body

  • In this paper, we found that modification of the local flexibility (or local stiffness) of the 4 parts on which shock absorbers are mounted in the vehicle body has some influence the level of ride safety and comfort. Multi-body dynamic analysis considering the flexibility of the vehicle body is performed using MSC/ADAMS and MSC/NASTRAN. More concretely speaking, natural frequencies and mode shapes computed by MSC/NASTRAN are used as input data for multi-body dynamic analysis in MSC/ADAMS. It is confirmed that the ride comfort can be improved by appropriately changing the local stiffness of the vehicle body through several simulations using MSC/ADAMS.

  • Ball type automatic balancer is used to reduce the vibration caused by unbalance of rotor. In this study, A analytic modeling of a front loaded washing machine with ball type automatic balancer has been suggested theoretically and ADAMS has been used to analyze the dynamic characteristics of automatic balancer. It is found from simulation and experimental results that the automatic balancer suppress the steady state vibration of the washing machine effectively. The test results match well with the simulation results of ADAMS, thereby the dynamic model of ADAMS can be used as virtual prototype to predict the vibration characteristics which could be changed by the modification of design variable and can reduce the design cycle sharply. To maximize the balancing effect of automatic balancer, the friction between balls and race and the deviation between geometric center and rotation center of drum need to be minimized and the optimum design for the stiffness of flange shaft and the angular acceleration of drum should be achieved.

Optimum Configuration of Gutters for Glasshouses Using ANSYS and ADAMS (ANSYS/ADAMS를 이용한 유리온실 최적의 Gutter 형태 설계)

  • A gutter is generally a fixed beneath the edge of a roof to carry off rainwater, or a narrow trough that collects rainwater from the roof of a building to diverts it from the structure, typically into a drain. Reasonable designs reduce the mass of the gutters (~ 16.9%), make it faster and easier to assemble, and gives it consistent strength and integrity (about 10%). New gutter systems are presented according to the results of structural analyses performed by ANSYS and ADAMS/Durability Hot Spots. In addition, the CATIA program can improve the precision of the 3D system simulations. The design of a gutter system installations also needs to comply with the specific rainfall intensities and adequate overflow provisions needs to be provided to prevent water from sides of the roofs during heavy rainfall periods. The principle outcome of this work is a computational design tool that can be used to improve the gutter performance considering a variety of factors (gutter geometry, drainage and rainfall intensity). A good gutter design must satisfy many criteria, including durability, low cost, and ease of repair and cleaning.

Steering System Design of Commercial Vehicle for Improving Pulling Phenomenon During Braking (상용차의 제동시 쏠림 개선을 위한 조향 연결점 설계)

  • The tires, suspension type, and steering system can all cause pulling during braking. Among these, a drag link steering system and leaf-type suspension system are significant causes of vehicle pulling. In this study, the pulling problem is analyzed using the vehicle analysis program "ADAMS/CAR." The drag link and leaf spring behavior is analyzed to find the key reason for pulling. After this, the optimization program "Visual DOC" is used with "ADAMS/CAR" to find a steering link connection point to reduce pulling. After conducting this simulation, K&C (kinematic & compliance) test simulation with a modified connection point is conducted to determine whether the vehicle performance improves. Through a full braking simulation, it is verified that the pulling distance is reduced at braking.

  • When we lose our memories or when our self-identity becomes blurred, we may feel as if our mind has split into multiple minds. If someone makes another 'me' by copying my body and mind, how should two conscious 'I's change their credences? In this article, we present a new thought experiment that can be called the 'Two Adams Problem'. This thought experiment represents a piece of philosophical inquiry that speculates on the nature of self-consciousness information that 'I am awake now'. On Sunday evening, as soon as Adam falls asleep, the philosopher Roro makes another Adam by copying Adam's original body and mind. They sleep separately in another room. Within a minute, Roro throws a fair coin. If the coin lands heads up Roro wakes just one of the Adams up on Monday. If the coin lands tails up Roro wakes both Adams up. On Monday, at least one of the Adams will wake up. To what degree ought they believe that the outcome of the coin toss is heads? We will argue that the correct answer to this question is 1/2.

Surf Zone Wave Transformations Simulated by a Fully Nonlinear Boussinesq Equation (완전비선형 Boussinesq방정식을 이용한 쇄파대의 파랑변형 모의)

  • A fully nonlinear Boussinesq equation of Wei et al. is finite differenced by Adams predictor-corrector method. A spatially distributed source function and sponge layers are used to reduce the reflected waves in the domain and wale breaking mechanism is included in the equation. The generated waves are found to be good and the corresponding wale heights are very close to the target values. The shoaling of solitary wave and transformation of regular wave over submerged shelf were simulated successfully. The characteristics of breaking mechanism was identified through the numerical experiment and the results of two dimensional wave propagation test over the spherical shoal showed the importance of nonlinear wave model.
