  • In structural reliability analysis, the response surface method is a powerful method to evaluate the probability of failure. However, the location of experimental points used to form a response surface function must be selected in a judicious way. It is necessary for the highly nonlinear limit state functions to consider the design point and the nonlinear trend of the limit state, because both of them influence the probability of failure. In this paper, in order to approximate the actual limit state more accurately, experimental points are selected close to the design point and the actual limit state, and consider the nonlinear trend of the limit state. Linear, quadratic and cubic polynomials without mixed terms are utilized to approximate the actual limit state. The direct Monte Carlo simulation on the approximated limit state is carried out to determine the probability of failure. Four examples are given to demonstrate the efficiency and the accuracy of the proposed method for both numerical and implicit limit states.

  • The elder population is growing rapidly in Korea nowadays. Therefore, a demand for adaptable installation standard of residential space for the elderly is increasing with growth of the elder population. This study analyzed actual state by interviewing manager, surveying actual measurement and using draft of Elderly nursing facility which is for senile patients. As a result of the survey for size and facilities, facilities for elderly safety, accommodation per a person and room size per a person are below to standard. Therefore, establishing adaptable design standard is needed which is to make safe and fresh living environment for the elderly.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify how age-identity is associated with the attitude toward the elderly and self-esteem of the aged. The subjects were 366 adults aged 60 and over. The statistics used for the data analysis were reliability test, frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, one way ANOVA, correlation and multiple regression. The results of this study were as follows; First, The majority of elderly acknowledged psychological ages as their actual ages. Secondly, The degrees of elderlys' age-identity was 2.12, and the levels of the attitude toward the elderly was 60.62. Also, The degrees of elderlys' self-esteem was 24.16. The surveyed data showed higher means than medians. Third, The age-identity of elderly was significant with respect to spouse, religion, career, living state, sex, age, gap of actual age, health state, economic state, education, monthly living expenses. And the attitude toward the elderly was stastically significant with respect age-identity, career, spouse, religion, living state, health state, education, monthly living expenses, economic state, gap of actual age, and age. Moreover, The elderlys' self-esteem level was significant with respect to spouse, age-identity, living state, religion, career, economic state, monthly living expenses, the attitude toward the elderly, health state, education, and age. Finally, The variables affecting the age-identity of elderly were health state, economic state, religion, age that explained about 34% of the total variance. And The attitude toward the elderly were age-identity, health state, gap of actual age that explained about 19% of the total variance. Also, The variables that affect elderlys' self-esteem were economic state, age-identity, the attitude toward the elderly, sex, monthly living expenses that explained about 33% of the total variance.

  • When the vehicle travels in an actual road, resistance spot weldments of the vehicle structure are exposed to complex loading state. Since the fatigue strength in resistance spot weldment of vehicle body can be determined by effect of residual stresses and loading state of driving, estimating actual loading state and considering residual stress effect are needed. In this study, Fatigue stress-fatigue life relation concerned residual stress effect was obtained by thermo elastic plastic finite element analysis. And applied loading in resistance spot weldments of vehicle body was calculated by dynamic analysis. Presumption of fatigue life was performed using proposed method

  • The purposes of this study were to determine the actual state of the indoor thermal environment in apartment units and to analyze the relationship between the living factors and indoor thermal elements. The field surveys consisted of measurements of physical elements and observations of living factors. In addition, the residents of 20 apartment units were interviewed to survey their subjective response. Field surveys were carried out from January to March 2007. Measuring elements were air temperature, globe temperature, and relative humidity. The results showed that the average of indoor temperature for the houses was $21.2{\sim}27.2^{\circ}C$, while 4 houses exceeded the comfort zone. The average of globe temperature for the houses was $21.3{\sim}27.5^{\circ}C$, while 6 houses exceeded the comfort zone. The mean relative humidity was $19.5{\sim}58.8%$, which is a relatively dry condition. The residents' average clothing value was $0.39{\sim}0.89$ clo(average 0.68 clo). The average thermal sensation vote on each room was $4.2{\sim}4.8$, which is 'neutral' to 'slightly warm'. Living factors had significant effect on indoor temperature in regression analysis were ventilation time(outdoor air exchange), opening time of door through balcony, and gas cooker use time.

  • The Ministry of the Interior and Safety in Korea developed seismic fragility function for various building types in 2009. Damage states for most building types were determined by structural analyses of sample models and foreign references because actual cases damaged by earthquakes rarely exist in Korea. Low-rise, piloti-type buildings showed severe damage by brittle failure in columns due to insufficient stirrup details in the 2017 Pohang earthquake. Therefore, it is necessary to improve damage state criteria for piloti-type buildings by consulting actual outcomes from the earthquake. An analytical approach was conducted by developing analysis models of sample buildings reflecting insufficient stirrup details of columns to accomplish the purpose. The result showed that current spectral displacements of damage states for piloti-type buildings might be too large to estimate actual fragility. When the brittle behavior observed in the earthquake is reflected in the analysis model, one-fourth through one-sixth of current spectral displacements of damage states may be appropriate for existing low-rise, piloti-type buildings.

  • This paper suggests an improved technique to establish the modeling regarding steady and transient state on three phase-in one cryostat type HTS(High Temperature Superconducting) cable. The proposed modeling is established using EMTP/ATPDraw and TACS and MODELS provided by that. It has higher accuracy than the conventional method, as the actual HTS cable is modelled. Steady and transient state analysis performed by EMTP/ATPDraw calculate the current of conductor, shield and former, respectively. In case of the transient state modeled quench state occurred by a single line-to-ground fault, current of conductor shield and former are also calculated, respectively. Especially, various fault resistances and angles are considered to improve the reliability during transient state analysis. Analysis results reveal that the proposed technique improves the accuracy of modeling.

  • This paper is proposed artificial neural network(ANN) rotor resistance estimation of induction motor drive controlled by multi-adaptive fuzzy learning controller(AFLC). A simple double layer feedforward ANN trained by the back-propagation technique is employed in the rotor resistance identification. In this estimator, double models of the state variable estimations are used; one provides the actual induction motor output states and the other gives the ANN model output states. The total error between the desired and actual state variables is then back propagated to adjust the weights of the ANN model, so that the output of this model tracks the actual output. When the training is completed, the weights of the ANN correspond to the parameters in the actual motor. The estimation and control performance of ANN and multi-AFLC is evaluated by analysis for various operating conditions. Also, this paper is proposed the analysis results to verify the effectiveness of this controller.

  • A fluid-solid conjugate solver has been newly developed and applied to an actual engine disk system. Most of the currently available conjugate solvers lack the special thermal modeling for turbomachinery disk system applications. In the present new code, these special models are implemented to expand the applicability of the conjugate method and to reduce the required computational resources. Most of the conjugate analysis work so far are limited to the axisymmetric framework. However, the actual disk system includes several non-axisymmetric components which inevitably affect the local heat transfer phenomena. Also the previous work devoted to this area usually concentrate their efforts on the steady-state thermal field, although the one in the transient condition is more critical to the engine components. This paper presents full 3D conjugate analysis of a single stage high pressure turbine rotor-stator disk system to assess the three-dimensional effects (Fig. 1). The analysis is carried out not only in the steady-state but also in the engine accelerating transient condition. The predicted temperatures shows good agreement with measured data.
