  • The purpose of this study is to examine the feeding and nutritional status of enteral tube-fed elderly patients. Subjects included 77 elderly hospitalized patients who had received enteral nutrition more than one week before admission. Medical records on admission and actual feeding volume were used to assess anthropometric, biochemical, and nutritional status. Most patients manifested disorders of the nervous system (93.5%) and the average duration of tube feeding was 13.9 months. The average feeding volume of formula was 1,107 mL per day and the mean ratios of calorie and protein (supplied vs. required) were 81.7% and 80.9%, respectively. At admission, 57.4% of the patients were malnourished according to the institutional criteria. Patients receiving less than 80% of the required calories were in worse nutritional status compared with those receiving more than 80% of the required calories. Body mass index, percent ideal body weight, serum albumin level and blood lipid levels (total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride) were significantly lower in patients receiving less than 80% of the required calories. These results indicate the high prevalence of malnutrition and the need for increased attention and nutritional care of elderly patients undergoing long-term enteral nutrition.

  • Ternary blended concrete, which contains both fly ash and granulated blast furnace slag, has an initial cost effective and is environment friendly. Furthermore, it has a lot of technical advantages such as the improvement of long term compressive strength, high workability, and the reduction of hydration heat. However, as the use and study on the performance of ternary blended concrete is limited, it is worthwhile studying the actual performance of this technology. This study examined the durability performance of ternary blended concrete, compared to binary blended concrete and ordinary portland concrete. It led to the conclusion that ternary blended concrete is very suitable for submerged members under marine environment. However, it should be noticed that ternary blended concrete becomes weak on carbonation, when it is situated on combined deterioration environment of carbonation and chloride. Therefore, the curing duration of ternary blended concrete should be prolonged in order to enhance the resistance of carbonation.

  • Labor productivity is a significant factor associated with controlling time, cost, and quality. Many researchers have developed models to define methods of measuring the relationship between productivity and various parameters such as the size of working area, maximum working hours, and the crew composition. Most of the previous research has focused on estimating productivity; however, this research concentrates on estimating labor productivity and developing time and cost data for repetitive concrete pouring activity. In Korea, "Standard Estimating" only entails the average productivity data of the construction industry, and it is difficult to predict the time and cost spent on any particular project. As a result, errors occur in estimating duration and cost for individual activities or projects. To address these issues, this research sought to collect data, measure productivity, and develop time and cost data using labor productivity based on field conditions from the collected data. A probabilistic approach is also proposed to develop data. A case study is performed to validate this process using actual data collected from construction sites. It is possible that the result will be used as the EVMS baseline of cost management and schedule management.

  • This paper is to develop an integrate curriculum of rhythm education activity program and to find the possibility of applying the program into actual music education field for kindergarten children. The outlook of this study is to develope a program integrating the elements of movement, language and rhythm to apply the program to 5 year old children for 6 weeks through 12 sessions, and to observe and analyze their level of rhythm creativity and rhythm reading ability. The analysis of the field observation data and recording data showed that the children achieved natural and better understanding of rhythm. Seen from the perspective of rhythm creation activity, while the integration of the elements of movement and rhythm influenced directly to enhance the level of understanding rhythm and the integration of the elements of language, rhythm helped indirectly to have better understanding rhythm through connecting the notions of rhythm and movements. However, when only rhythm and movements were combined, children tended to misunderstand the relative durations of ♩ and ♪ just as different tempos not as 2:1 duration relativity. And ♫ was too misunderstand as ♬ due to different durations of korean words when only rhythm and language were combined. To overcome the limit of understanding, all of the three elements; rhythm and movements and language should be integrated and constant auditory experiences are recommended.

  • Testing of ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) is one of the most popular and actual non-destructive techniques used in the estimation of the concrete properties in structures. In this paper, artificial neural network (ANN) approach has been proposed for the evaluation of relationship between concrete compressive strength, UPV, and density values by using the experimental data obtained from many cores taken from different reinforced concrete structures with different ages and unknown ratios of concrete mixtures. The presented approach enables to find practically concrete strengths in the reinforced concrete structures, whose records of concrete mixture ratios are not yet available. Thus, researchers can easily evaluate the compressive strength of concrete specimens by using UPV values. The method can be used in conditions including too many numbers of the structures and examinations to be done in restricted time duration. This method also contributes to a remarkable reduction of the computational time without any significant loss of accuracy. Statistic measures are used to evaluate the performance of the models. The comparison of the results clearly shows that the ANN approach can be used effectively to predict the compressive strength of concrete by using UPV and density data. In addition, the model architecture can be used as a non-destructive procedure for health monitoring of structural elements.

  • Seismic analysis of local site conditions is fundamental for a reliable site seismic hazard assessment. It plays a major role in mitigation of seismic damage potential through the prediction of surface ground motion in terms of amplitude, frequency content and duration. Such analysis requires the determination of the transfer function, which is a simple tool for characterizing a soil profile by estimating its vibration frequencies and its amplification potential. In this study, numerical simulations are carried out and are then combined with a statistical study to allow the characterization of design sites classified by the Algerian Building Seismic Code (RPA99, ver 2003), by average transfer functions. The mean transfer functions are thereafter used to compute RPA99 average site factors. In this regard, coming up seismic fields are simulated based on Power Spectral Density Functions (PSDF) defined at the rock basement. Results are also used to compute average site factor where, actual and synthetic time histories are introduced. In absence of measurement data, it is found that the proposed approach can be used for a better soil characterization.

  • This paper proposes a improved investment priority decision method of the facilities considering the reliability of distribution networks. The proposed method decides a investment order of the facilities combining, by fuzzy rules, the investment priority decision of KEPCO and the priority decision considering reliability evaluation indices. Where reliability evaluation indices are SAIFI(System Average Interruption Frequency Index) and SAIDI(System Average Interruption Duration Index), as referred to evaluation index for sustained interruption. The reliability analysis method of distribution networks applied in this paper utilizes analytic method, where the used reliability data is historical data of KEPCO. Particularly, we assumed that the failure rate increased as the equipment ages. To verify the performance of the proposed method, we applied it with the planned projects to reinforce the weak facility electrical facilities in KEPCO in 2004. The evaluation result showed that, under a limited budget, the reliability of the KEPCO in the Busan region using the proposed method can be enhanced than using the conventional KEPCO's method. Therefore, the results verify the proposed method can be efficiently used in the actual priorities method for investing the electrical facilities.

  • To develop a model for prediction of turnip mosaic virus(TuMV) disease progress of Chinese cabbage based on weather information and number of TuMV vector aphids trapped in Taegwallyeong alpine area, data were statistically processed together. As the variables influenced on TuMV disease progress, cumulative portion(CPT) above 13$^{\circ}C$ in daily average temperature was the most significant, and solar radiation, duration of sunshine, vector aphids and cumulative temperature above $0^{\circ}C$ were significant. When logistic model and Gompertz model were compared by detemining goodness of fit for TuMV disease progress using CPT as independent variable, regression coefficient was higher in the logistic model than in the Gompertz model. Epidemic parameters, apparent infection rate and initial value of logistic model, were estimated by examining the relationship between disease proportion linearized by logit transformation equation, In(Y/Yf-Y) and CPT. Models able to describe the progression of TuMV disease were formulated in Y=100/(1+128.4 exp(-0.013.CPT.(-1(1/(1+66.7.exp(-0.11.day). Calculated disease progress from the model was in good agreement with investigated actual disease progress showing high significance of the coefficient of determination with 0.710.

  • To obtain the experimental data for design and operation of actual filtration processes, a sand filter and three kinds of dual media filters in pilot-plant scale were operated in this study. We analyzed the effect of filter medium composition on the filter performance and the effects of backwash water flow rates, length of stream line and air flow rate on the filter backwash efficiency. We also compared the efficiencies of the combined air-water backwashing and the water backwashing in dual media filters. As the backwash water flow rates or the length of stream line increased, the final turbidity of backwash water was decreased and the filtration duration time after backwash was increased. In the case of the combined air-water backwashing, the backwash water quantity needed for backwashing the dual media filters could be decreased. The total volume of filtered water for the dual media filters during filter run was over three times larger than that for the sand filter. The dual media filters could be operated at a high filtration rate of 360 m/day.
