Objectives: The purpose of present study was to evaluate the internal adaptation of composite restorations using different adhesive systems. Materials and Methods: Typical class I cavities were prepared in 32 human third molars. The teeth were divided into the following four groups: 3-step etch-and-rinse, 2-step etch-and-rinse, 2-step self-etch and 1-step self-etch system were used. After the dentin adhesives were applied, composite resins were filled and light-cured in two layers. Then, silver nitrate solution was infiltrated, and all of the samples were scanned by micro-CT before and after thermo-mechanical load cycling. For each image, the length to which silver nitrate infiltrated, as a percentage of the whole pulpal floor length, was calculated (%SP). To evaluate the internal adaptation using conventional method, the samples were cut into 3 pieces by two sectioning at an interval of 1 mm in the middle of the cavity and they were dyed with Rhodamine-B. The cross sections of the specimens were examined by stereomicroscope. The lengths of the parts where actual leakage was shown were measured and calculated as a percentage of real leakage (%RP). The values for %SP and %RP were compared. Results: After thermo-mechanical loading, all specimens showed significantly increased %SP compared to before thermo-mechanical loading and 1-step self-etch system had the highest %SP (p < 0.05). There was a tendency for %SP and %RP to show similar microleakage percentage depending on its sectioning. Conclusions: After thermo-mechanical load cycling, there were differences in internal adaptation among the groups using different adhesive systems.

This paper presents a high-frequency boost type ZVS-PWM chopper-fed DC-DC power converter with a single active auxiliary edge-resonant snubber at the load stage which can be designed for power conditioners such as solar photovoltaic generation, fuel cell generation, battery and super capacitor energy storages. Its principle operation in steady-state is described in addition to a prototype setup. The experimental results of boost type ZVS-PWM chopper proposed here, are evaluated and verified with a practical design model in terms of its switching voltage and current waveforms, the switching v-i trajectory and the temperature performance of IGBT module, the actual power conversion efficiency, and the EMI of radiated and conducted emissions, and then discussed and compared with the hard switching scheme from an experimental point of view. Finally, this paper proposes a practical method to suppress parasitic oscillation due to the active auxiliary resonant switch at ZCS turn-off mode transition with the aid of an additional lossless clamping diode loop, and can be reduced the EMI conducted emission.

This paper proposes the modeling of sensorless drive system using 120 degree conduction method for IPM (Interior Permanent Magnet) BLDC motors and analyzes characteristics of the terminal voltage that is used to detect the rotor position. This paper shows that the ZCP (Zero-Crossing Point) of the measured terminal voltage used In sensorless control is ahead of that of the back EMF of IPM motors because they have a saliency. This research also analyzes that the amount of position detection error is related to saliency, rotor speed, and load condition. In addition, this paper shows that motors have bigger advance angles than we have expected because the ZCP of terminal voltage precedes the actual ZCP, and under operation conditions such as heavy load and high speed it may generate abnormal currents that flow toward opposite direction after phase current becomes zero.

Fitting process carried out in the automobile transmission assembly line is classified into three classes; heat fitting, press fitting, and their combined fitting. Heat fitting is a method that heats gear to a suitable range under the tempering temperature and squeezes it toward the outer diameter of shaft. Its stress depends on the yield strength of gear. Press fitting is a method that generally squeezes gear toward that of shaft at room temperature by a press. Another method heats warmly gear and safely squeezes it toward that of shaft. Warm shrink fitting process for the automobile transmission part is now gradually increased, but the parts (shaft/gear) assembled by this process produced dimensional changes in both the outer diameter and profile of the gear. So that it may cause noise and vibration between gears. In order to solve these problems, we need an analysis of warm shrink fitting process, in which design parameters are involved; contact pressure according to fitting interference between outer diameter of shaft and inner diameter of gear, fitting temperature, and profile tolerance of gear. In this study, an closed form equation to predict contact pressure and fitting load was proposed in order to develop an optimization technique of the warm shrink fitting process and verified its reliability through the experimental results measured in the field and FEM, that is, thermal-structural coupled field analysis. Actual loads measured in the field was in good agreements with the results obtained by the theoretical and finite element analysis.

This paper proposes the process for evaluating the impact of charging the PHEV(Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle) on the distribution systems, and analyzes the study results employing the actual systems as the PHEV is highly expected to increase in the automobile industries in North America in the near future. Since the charging load of the PHEV directly connected to the distribution systems would consume electric power much more than any other existing electric product of residential customers, the new modeling and process would be required to consider the PHEV in distribution systems planning. The EPRI(Electric Power Research Institute) is collaboratively conducting the impact study of PHEV on the distribution systems with power utilities in North America. This study models distribution systems and the charging load of the PHEV using OpenDSS software, and analyzes the impact of PHEV on the distribution systems by assuming various scenarios with different charging time and PHEV types.

A dynamic adaptive streaming server consumes high processor power because it handles a large amount of transcoding operations at a time. For this purpose, multi-processor architecture is mandatory for which effective transcoding task distribution strategies are essential. In this paper, we present the design and implementation details of the transcoding workload distribution schemes at a 2-tier (frontend node and backend node) transcoding server. For this, we implemented four schemes: 1) allocation of transcoding tasks to appropriate back-end nodes, 2) task scheduling in the back-end node and 3) the communication between front-end and back-end nodes. Experiments were conducted to compare the estimated and the actual power consumption in a real testbed to verify the efficacy of the system. It also proved that the system can reduce the load on each node to optimize the power and time used for transcoding.

An experimental study on the welding part of a heat transfer plate that constitutes the lightweight and high efficiency recuperator is presented in this paper. In particular, to find out the service life of the welded part, fatigue characteristics were determined through experiments. Experiments were carried out on two materials (STS347, AL20-25 + nb), which are selected as the material of the recuperator; further, the specimens were manufactured through the methods used for actual fabrication and the standards recommended by ASTM. To evaluate the mechanical properties of the specimens at room and high temperature, MTS-810 was used in a high-temperature furnace. The tensile test was carried out at room and high temperatures for each specimen. The fatigue test was carried out by setting the load ratio corresponding to 50%, 40%, 30%, 20%, and 10% of the tensile strength at the stress ratio of 0.1. Finally, the fatigue life characteristics obtained by the experiment were compared with the stresses owing to the load generated in the operating conditions of the recuperator, and the lifetime of the welds was evaluated to prepare for the operation time required by the UAV.
The worldwide focus on reducing the emissions, fuel and lubricant consumption in T-GDI engines is leading engineers to consider the crankcase ventilation and oil mist separation system as an important means of control. In today's passenger cars, the oil mist separation systems mainly use the inertia effect (e.g. labyrinth, cyclone etc.). Therefore, this study has investigated high efficiency cylinder head-integrated oil-mist separator by using a compact multi-impactor type oil mist separator system to ensure adequate oil mist separation performance. For this purpose, engine dynamometer testing with oil particle efficiency measurement equipment and 3D two-phase flow simulation have been performed for various engine operating conditions. Tests with an actual engine on a dynamometer showed oil aerosol particle size distributions varied depending on operating conditions. For instance, high rpm and load increases bot only blow-by gases but the amount of small size oil droplets. Submicron-sized particles (less than 0.5 ㎛) were also observed. It is also found that the impactor type separator is able to separate nearly no droplets of diameter lower than 3 ㎛. CFD results showed that the complex aerodynamics processes that lead to strong impingement and break-up can strip out large droplets and generate more small size droplets.

This paper proposes a power system that includes a 120k W fuel cell DC-DC converter (FDC) and 30 kW bidirectional DC-DC converter (BHDC) for a 150 kW fuel-cell vehicle. With a high DC link voltage of 800 V, the efficiency and power density of the power electronic components are improved. Through the modular design of FDC and BHDC, electric components are shared, resulting in reduced mass production costs. The switching frequency of 30 kHz of full SiC devices and optimal design of coupled inductor reduce the volume, achieving a power density of 8.3 kW/L. Furthermore, a synergetic operation strategy using variable limiter control of FDC and BHDC was proposed to efficiently operate the fuel cell vehicle considering the fuel cell stack efficiency according to the load. Finally, the performance of the prototype was verified by Highway Fuel Economy Driving Schedule testing, EMI test, and the linked operation between FDC and BHDC. The full load efficiencies of the FDC and BHDC prototypes are 98.47% and 98.74%, respectively.

The composite lattice structure is a structure that supports the required load with the minimum weight and thickness. Composite lattice structure is manufactured by the filament winding process using impregnating high-strength carbon fiber with an epoxy resin. Filament winding process can laminate and manufacture only structurally necessary parts, composite lattice structure can be applied to aircraft fuselages, satellite and launch vehicles, and guided weapons to maximize weight reduction. In this paper, the development and evaluation of the composite lattice structure corresponding to the entire process from design, analysis, fabrication, and evaluation of large-scale cylindrical and conical composites lattice structure were performed. To be applicable to actual projectiles and guided weapons, we developed a cylindrical lattice structure with a diameter of 2,600 mm and a length of 2,000 mm, and a conical lattice structure with an upper diameter of 1,300 mm, a lower diameter of 2,500 mm, and a length of 900 mm. The performance of the developed composite lattice structure was evaluated through a load test.
