This paper presents a practical and realistic Life-Cycle Cost (LCC) optimum design methodology for steel bridges considering the long-term effect of environmental stressors such as corrosion and heavy truck traffics on bridge reliability. The LCC functions considered in the LCC optimization consist of initial cost, expected life-cycle maintenance cost, and expected life-cycle rehabilitation costs including repair/replacement costs, loss of contents or fatality and injury losses, road user costs, and indirect socio-economic losses. For the assessment of the life-cycle rehabilitation costs, the annual probability of failure, which depends upon the prior and updated load and resistance histories, should be accounted for. For the purpose, Nowak live load model and a modified corrosion propagation model, which takes into consideration corrosion initiation, corrosion rate, and repainting effect, are adopted in this study. The proposed methodology is applied to the LCC optimum design problem of an actual steel box girder bridge with 3 continuous spans (40m+50m+40m=130m). Various sensitivity analyses are performed to investigate the effects of various design parameters and conditions on the LCC-effectiveness. From the numerical investigation, it has been observed that local corrosion environments and the volume of truck traffic significantly influence the LCC-effective optimum design of steel bridges. Thus, these conditions should be considered as crucial parameters for the optimum LCC-effective design.

Different methods are used for determining the output of engines to obtain the indicated horsepower by measuring the combustion pressure of cylinders, and to obtain the shaft horsepower by measuring the shaft torque. It is difficult to examine the shaft torque using the condition of the cylinder, and the most accurate method used for determining the combustion pressure involves examining the combustion state of the cylinder to evaluate the engine performance and analyze the combustion of the cylinder. During the measurement, the combustion pressure is the most important parameter used for accurately determining the cylinder angle because the cylinder pressure is indicated based on the angle of the crankshaft. In this study, an encoder was used as the crank angle sensor to measure the cylinder pressure on the generator engine of the actual operating ship. The reasons for the differences between the top dead center (TDC) recognized by the encoder (TDCencoder) and the TDC recognized by the compression pressure (TDCcomp) were considered. The dif erences between the TDCcomp and TDCencoder of the cylinders measured at idle running, 25 %, 50 %, and 60 % loads were analyzed to determine for the crankshaft production effect, the crankshaft torsion effect owing to the increased rotational resistance from the increased load, and the coupling damping effect between the engine and generator. It was confirmed that the TDC error occurred up to 3° crank angle as the load of the generator increased.

The two dimensional size effect of specimen gauge section (length x width) was investigated on the compressive behavior of a T300/924 [45/-45/0/90]3s, carbon fiber-epoxy laminate. A modified ICSTM compression test fixture was used together with an anti-buckling device to test 3mm thick specimens with a 30$\times$30, 50$\times$50, 70$\times$70, and 90mm$\times$90mm gauge length by width section. In all cases failure was sudden and occurred mainly within the gauge length. Post failure examination suggests that $0^{\circ}$ fiber microbuckling is the critical damage mechanism that causes final failure. This is the matrix dominated failure mode and its triggering depends very much on initial fiber waviness. It is suggested that manufacturing process and quality may play a significant role in determining the compressive strength. When the anti-buckling device was used on specimens, it was showed that the compressive strength with the device was slightly greater than that without the device due to surface friction between the specimen and the device by pretoque in bolts of the device. In the analysis result on influence of the anti-buckling device using the finite element method, it was found that the compressive strength with the anti-buckling device by loaded bolts was about 7% higher than actual compressive strength. Additionally, compressive tests on specimen with an open hole were performed. The local stress concentration arising from the hole dominates the strength of the laminate rather than the stresses in the bulk of the material. It is observed that the remote failure stress decreases with increasing hole size and specimen width but is generally well above the value one might predict from the elastic stress concentration factor. This suggests that the material is not ideally brittle and some stress relief occurs around the hole. X-ray radiography reveals that damage in the form of fiber microbuckling and delamination initiates at the edge of the hole at approximately 80% of the failure load and extends stably under increasing load before becoming unstable at a critical length of 2-3mm (depends on specimen geometry). This damage growth and failure are analysed by a linear cohesive zone model. Using the independently measured laminate parameters of unnotched compressive strength and in-plane fracture toughness the model predicts successfully the notched strength as a function of hole size and width.
Generally, application of steel pipe pile as deep foundation member needs special requirement for the connection method between steel pipe pile and concrete footing. Even though two types of connection method are suggested in the related specification, type B-method is provident. To investigate real structural behavior of type B connection, several load tests are done with carefully designed experimental system. The purpose of this experiment is mainly focused on the understanding of actual behavior which can be predicted by design theory. At this research stage, vertical and lateral loading test are done for three types of specimen to review stress concentration, formation and behavior of imaginary RC column in the footing and effect of non-slip device installed in the steel pipe pile. The load resistance mechanism in these specific connection method is predicted based on both experimental results. The three-dimensional finite element modeling is also done for the purpose of comparison between numerical and experimental result. With all the results gained from experiment the structural behavior of imaginary RC column in the design concept is confirmed. The role of non-slip device is very important and it affects the resistance capacity with help of composite action of concrete and steel pipe pile.
The relationship between discharge (Q) and suspended sediment (SS) concentration often is used for the estimation of inflow SS concentration in reservoir turbidity modeling in the absence of actual measurements. The power function, SS=aQb, is the most commonly used empirical relation to determine the SS load assuming the SS flux is controlled by variations of discharge. However, Q-SS relation typically is site specific and can vary depending on the season of the year. In addition, the relation sometimes shows hysteresis during rising limb and falling limb for an event hydrograph. The objective of this study was to examine the hysteresis of Q-SS relationships through continuous field measurements during flood events at inflow rivers of Yongdam Reservoir and Soyang Reservoir, and to analyze its effect on the bias of SS load estimation. The results confirmed that Q-SS relations display a high degree of scatter and clock-wise hysteresis during flood events, and higher SS concentrations were observed during rising limb than falling limb at the same discharge. The hysteresis caused significant bias and underestimation of SS loading to the reservoirs when the power function is used, which is important consideration in turbidity modeling for the reservoirs. As an alternative of Q-SS relation, turbidity-SS relation is suggested. The turbidity-SS relations showed less variations and dramatically reduced the bias with observed SS loading. Therefore, a real-time monitoring of inflow turbidity is necessary to better estimate of SS influx to the reservoirs and enhance the reliability of reservoir turbidity modeling.

The use of electric cable was limited due to the installation time and large space as the increase of power demand and load quantity in side line. In order to solve these problems, the application of busway system which can supply the large current was increasing. But it was lack of methods of performance tests to evaluate the reliability and results of test for busway system. In this paper, we presented items to evaluate the reliability test for epoxy coated busway system with reference to IEC 61349-6. In addition, we proposed items to evaluate the reliability and long term life cycle test for the epoxy coated busway system. The combined acceleration deterioration test that reflects actual conditions of the survey as much as possible was conducted considering both thermal and electrical stresses. The deterioration condition was selected to satisfy fifty years life expectation and the insulation performance verification test of the busway system confirmed the long term life prediction. Furthermore, as test items for reliability assessment of compliance with the environment for the use of temperature, humidity and load current where busway system was installed, thermal overload test, water immersion test, cold shock temperature test and thermal cycle test were performed. And we examined changes in characteristics and abnormality after tests. From results, the test items presented to evaluate performance and reliability of the epoxy insulated busway system were confirmed to be appropriate in this paper, and the performance of the product was also confirmed to be excellent for reliability tests.
The purpose of this study is to verify the validation of the Korean-type destructive leadership scale in order to activate the leadership research of local police manager in Korea. For the purpose of this study, the entire police officer(under the rank of sergeant) working at the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency in 2017 was set up as the population. A proportional allocation sampling was used for the sampling, and the allocation standard was set up in the workplace, department, rank, and sex. Data collection was conducted from April 1, 2017 to April 30, 2017, for a total of 500 respondents, and 433 were finally used for actual analysis. In the study, reliability and validity of destructive leadership scale were verified through reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. As a result, the destructive leadership scale of Korean local police manager showed a high cronbach' ${\alpha}$ coefficient of 0.948 for the questionnaire related load and 0.974 in the questionnaire related organization, but, the model fit of confirmatory factor analysis was low. Therefore, through additional exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, we reconstructed 6 questionnaires by deleting 4 questionnaires among the load-related items. On the other hand, the organization-related items were verified to be appropriate for all of the existing 10 items, and the destructive leadership scale of Korean local police manager was finally reconstructed into 16 items with 2 factors. This study also confirmed that the above reconstruction model is statistically suitable. The destructive leadership scale of Korean local police manager can be used as the basic data of leadership research to be conducted in the future.

The objective of this research is to verify the code-specified girder distribution factors (GDF) for continuous steel girder bridges by field testing. Previous analytical study revealed that current GDF's specified in AASHTO Standard and AASHTO LRFD, developed for the simple span bridges are conservative even for the continuous bridges. In this study, field tests were performed for three continuous steel girder bridges to validate the GDF's specified in the AASHTO codes. The results show that the code values are conservative when compared with field tests, and in some cases, too conservative. Also, strains measured from the field test are, in most cases, smaller than those expected from the analytical results. However, when the GDF's from measured strains are compared with GDF's from analysis, it is found that the analysis results are not conservative, and in some instance, the analytical results underestimate the actual GDF's, which can lead to a groundless notion of safety. In one case, test results showed that the code GDF's specified in AASHTO LRFD is too permissive. As a result, it is found that GDF's specified in AASHTO LRFD should be used with careful reservation.

A deterministic conceptual erosion model which simulates detachment, entrainment, transport and deposition of eroded soil particles by rainfall impact and flowing water is presented. Both upland and channel phases of sediment yield are incorporated into the erosion model. The algorithms for the soil erosion and sedimentation processes including land and crop management effects are taken from the literature and then solved using a digital computer. The erosion model is used in conjunction with the modified Kentucky Watershed Model which simulates the hydrologic characteristics from watershed data. The two models are linked together by using the appropriate computer code. Calibrations for both the watershed and erosion model parameters are made by comparing the simulated results with actual field measurements in the Four Mile Creek watershed near Traer, Iowa using 1976 and 1977 water year data. Two water years, 1970 and 1978 are used as test years for model verification. There is good agreement between the mean daily simulated and recorded streamflow and between the simulated and recorded suspended sediment load except few partial differences. The following conclusions were drawn from the results after testing the watershed and erosion model. 1. The watershed and erosion model is a deterministic lumped parameter model, and is capable of simulating the daily mean streamflow and suspended sediment load within a 20 percent error, when the correct watershed and erosion parameters are supplied. 2. It is found that soil erosion is sensitive to errors in simulation of occurrence and intensity of precipitation and of overland flow. Therefore, representative precipitation data and a watershed model which provides an accurate simulation of soil moisture and resulting overland flow are essential for the accurate simulation of soil erosion and subsequent sediment transport prediction. 3. Erroneous prediction of snowmelt in terms of time and magnitute in conjunction with The frozen ground could be the reason for the poor simulation of streamflow as well as sediment yield in the snowmelt period. More elaborate and accurate snowmelt submodels will greatly improve accuracy. 4. Poor simulation results can be attributed to deficiencies in erosion model and to errors in the observed data such as the recorded daily streamflow and the sediment concentration. 5. Crop management and tillage operations are two major factors that have a great effect on soil erosion simulation. The erosion model attempts to evaluate the impact of crop management and tillage effects on sediment production. These effects on sediment yield appear to be somewhat equivalent to the effect of overland flow. 6. Application and testing of the watershed and erosion model on watersheds in a variety of regions with different soils and meteorological characteristics may be recommended to verify its general applicability and to detact the deficiencies of the model. Futhermore, by further modification and expansion with additional data, the watershed and erosion model developed through this study can be used as a planning tool for watershed management and for solving agricultural non-point pollution problems.
In a banking process for construction of a complex, non-compaction construction has been applied in most sites, which is a method that soils are compacted by the equipment load without being compacted separately. However, there are no specific descriptions in the construction manual or specifications, so it is unclear to evaluate the excavation volume. Hence, this study is a basic study to compare the soil conversion factor at a design stage and the actual soil conversion factor of a banking ground under a non-compaction condition in order to examine the feasibility in constructing the ground for construction of the complex and to examine appropriateness of the earth work in the site by conducting an indoor, field, and load-settlement test and proposing a reasonable soil conversion factor. Under the non-compaction condition, the soil conversion factor C is set to be 1.0 at the design stage, but the result of the field test was 0.86 which is smaller than the value at the design stage. It was expected that this result would increase the banking volume, and the construction result actually showed a difference in the banking volume. Therefore, for the baking ground under the non-compaction condition, it is necessary to apply the value C suitable for the site condition after performing test by considering the site's condition and the banking height.
