A Study on the Living Activities of the Elderly with Dementia in Skilled Nursing Facilities in Rural Area (농촌지역 노인전문요양시설 치매노인의 생활행위에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the actual condition of the daily living activities of the elderly with dementia in skilled nursing facilities. The thorough investigation and observation works were made from the view points of daily living behaviors and behavioral places of the recuperating elderly with dementia. This article discusses about the basic characteristics of the elderly and the actual condition of the daily living activities of the elderly with dementia in 2 skilled nursing facilities. The results of this study are summarized as follows; There is no wide difference between skilled nursing facilities on the characteristic of living behaviors of the elderly with dementia. Daily living activities and the use of spaces are largely influenced by the daily program and the operation policy of each skilled nursing facilities in addition to human relationship of the elderly with dementia. Common spaces such as day room, dining room plays an important role for their daily living activities, because that most of the elderly with dementia stay long during daytime. Layout of each private room and common space seems very crucial point in designing these facilities, in order to enable demented people to live their lives more independently.

Computational Studies on the Combustion and Thermal Performance of the Coal Fired Utility Boiler : Temperature and Thermal Energy Distribution (석탄화력 보일러 연소열성능 해석 : 온도와 열에너지 분포를 중심으로)

  • The pulverized coal combustion behavior in the coal fired utility boiler has been investigated with the CFD and process analysis techniques. The used commercial software were CFX and PROATES, and these were coupled each other to get more reliable boundary condition set-up, resulting in more reliable solution. For two cases which were the actual operation condition of A power plant, the calculated values from the coupled CFD and process analysis for thermal energy system were compared with the plant data, and the good agreements were obtained for Case 1 and 2. The calculated temperature distributions on the surface of heat exchangers were compared with the plant data for the steam temperatures across heat exchangers, and these explained the actual operating situation very well. The temperature deviation across the final superheater tube, which was believed to be the main cause of the frequent tube failure, were also explained very well with the calculated distributions of gas temperature and radiation on the plane of the final superheater.

  • There are about 38,977 CNG cars and 247 natural gas vehicle charging stations in operation in order to improve the urban air environment. With the introduction of natural gas vehicles, the atmospheric environment, which was the main cause of air pollution in the metropolitan area, was remarkably improved. However, unlike these positive effects, CNG bus accidents, which occurred more than 10 times since 2005, have caused concern among the majority of citizens using public transportation. It is necessary to make a judgment on the feasibility and future direction of CNG pressure vessel safety management that can safeguard the safety of CNG pressure vessel at the time of starting. In this study, we investigates production and use of CNG vessel, the current status of safety management of CNG bus transportation companies & charging stations and then proposes measures to prevent accident recurrence and safety management based on the actual situation investigation and analysis.

  • This paper in order to reduce the electric disaster damage which is caused by with electric equipment of traditional market developed the electric safety monitoring system which is suitable in traditional market. With for this did the actual condition investigation about electrical equipment of traditional market and we constructed Test-bed for testing reliability of electric safety monitoring system. Also experiment led in Test-bed and confirmed a stability. This paper following will be used with the data for the reliability security of the electric safe system operation which follows in the traditional market actual proof equipment construction which will be advanced.

  • An accelerated fatigue test is essentially required to maintain the reliability of the actual structure of KTX under operation conditions. However, actual fatigue life cannot be obtained if specimens are not adequate to the conventional fatigue test. Moreover component maker did not provide data of loading stress (S) - cycles at the failure (N). In this study, we suggest a prediction method of the S-N curve for establishing an accelerating test under various load levels. Load history was acquired from the field tests. A Rainflow method was used on the cycle counting of the field load data, and then, an S-N curve was obtained through the iteration process under the condition that the damage index satisfies to 1 in the Miner's rule.

  • An important factor in determining the design and treatment efficiency of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) is the quantity and quality of influent. These detailed and accurate information is essential for process control, diagnosis and operation, as well as the basis in designing the plant, selecting the process and determining the optimal capacity of each bioreactor. Probabilistic models are used to predict the wastewater quantity and quality of WWTPs, which are widely used to improve the design and operation of WWTPs. In this study, the optimal probability distribution of time series influent data was derived for predicting water quantity and quality, and wastewater influent data were generated using the Monte Carlo simulation analysis. In addition, we estimated various alternatives for the improvement of bioreactor operations based on present operation condition using the generated influent data and activated sludge model, and suggested the alternative that can operate the most effectively. Thus, the influent quantity and quality are highly correlated with the actual operation data, so that the actual WWTPs influent characteristics were well reproduced. Using this will improve the operating conditions of WWTPs, and a proposed improvement plan for the current TMS (Tele Monitoring System) effluent quality standards can be made.

  • As a considerable, experimental approach, an Auto-carriage type of $CO_2$ welding machine and a MIG(Metal Inert Gas) welding robot under inert gas atmosphere were utilized in order to realize Al 5083 welding applied to hull and relevant components of green Al leisure ships. This study aims at investigating the effect of welding conditions(current, voltage, welding speed, etc) on thermal deformation that occurs as welding operation and tensile characteristics after welding, by using Al 5083, non-ferrous material, applied to manufacturing of co-environmental Al leisure ships. With respect to welding condition to minimize the thermal deformation, 150A and 16V at the wire-feed rate of 6mm/sec were acquired in the process of welding Al 5083 through an auto carriage type of $CO_2$ welding feeder. As to tensile characteristics of Al 5083 welding through a MIG welding robot, most of tensile specimens showed the fracture behavior on HAZ(Heat Affected Zone) located at the area joined with weld metal, except for some cases. Especially, for the case of the Al specimen with 5mm thickness, 284.62MPa of tensile strength and 11.41% of elongation were obtained as an actual allowable tensile stress-strain value. Mostly, after acquiring the optimum welding condition, the relevant welding data and technical requirements might be provided for actual welding operation site and welding procedure specification(WPS).

Water Resources Management Challenge in the Citarum River Basin, Indonesia

  • The Citarum River Basin is the biggest river basin in West Java Province, Indonesia and it plays strategic roles in providing water for irrigation, domestic and industrial uses, and power generation, besides controlling the flood during rainy season. Flowing through seven major cities makes the river flow and water demand are vulnerable to land use change around the river. The present water resources management has involved the regulator, operator, and users in deciding an appropriate water management plan for the entire basin. The plan includes an operation plan for three reservoirs, construction or maintenance of the river channel, and water allocation for all users along the river. Following this plan, a smaller operation group will execute and evaluates the plan based on the actual flow condition. Recently, a deforestation, environment degradation, river sedimentation, a rapid growth of population and industry, also public health become new issues that should be considered in water basin planning. Facing these arising issues, a new development program named ICWRMIP was established to advance the existing management system. This program includes actions to strengthen institutional collaboration, do the restoration and conservation of the river environment, improve water quality and public health, also advance the water allocation system. At present, the water allocation plan is created annually based on a forecasted flow data and water usage prediction report. Sometimes this method causes a difficulty for the operator when the actual flow condition is not the same as the prediction. Improving existing system, a lot of water allocation studies, including a development of the database and water allocation simulation model have been placed to help stakeholders decide the suitable planning schemes. In the future, this study also tries to contribute in advancing water allocation planning by creating an optimization model which ease stakeholders discover a suitable water allocation plan for individual users.
