Collision Strength Assessment for Double Hull Type Product Carrier Using Finite Element Analysis (이중 선체 화학 운반선의 충돌 강도 평가)

  • Ship collisions and grounding continue to occur regardless of continuous efforts to prevent such accidents. With the increasing demand for safety at sea and for protection of the environment, it is of crucial importance to be able to reduce the probability of accidents, assess their consequences and ultimately minimize or prevent potential damages to the ships and the marine environment. Numerical simulations for actual collision problem are conducted with a special attention with respect to finite element size, fracture criteria and material properties, which require a careful consideration to improve the accuracy. A parametric analysis varying colliding speed, angle, design loading condition is conducted using nonlinear finite element analysis method for 46,00 dwt Product/chemical carrier. The relationship between the absorbed energy and indentation are derived quantitatively using the insights observed from this study, and a novel design concept for assessing the anti-collision performance are proposed.

The effect of a low-sodium label on acceptability and perceived saltiness intensity of a dipping sauce for fried pork cutlets (저염 표시가 포크커틀릿 소스의 짠맛 인식과 기호도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of a low-sodium label on acceptability and sensory attributes of a dipping sauce for fried pork cutlets. Two sauce samples, CON (normal sodium level) and LOW-Na (50% sodium level), were evaluated. Consumers (n=77) rated expectations and actual perception of overall liking, purchase intent, and intensities of saltiness, sweetness, sourness, fruit flavor, and degree of flavor balance without and with a carrier (fried pork cutlet) in blind and informed settings. In the informed test, CON labeled as Low-Na (PLACEBO) was additionally tested to examine the placebo effect of information. The low-sodium labeling significantly increased the expected liking and purchase intent, but decreased the expected saltiness. However, the label did not influence actual liking or purchase intent. A significant decrease in actual saltiness was observed only in Low-Na, not in PLACEBO, indicating the label is influential only when actual perception matched the expectation.

  • With the expansion of natural gas demands in many countries, the necessity of LNG receiving terminals has been increased. The offshore LNG Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) attracts attentions not only for a land based LNG receiving terminal alternative, but also for a feasible and economic solution. Nowadays, as the reliability of offshore oil and gas floating facilities and LNG carriers gains with proven worldwide operations, the FSRU can achieve a safety level that can be comparable to an onshore terminal. The design development related with safety features of the FSRU has been extensively carried out by oil and gas companies, shipyards, engineering companies, and equipment vendors, and has been successful so far in many fields. The construction of the FSRU can be achieved by integrating various technologies and experiences from many disciplines and many participating companies and vendors. In this paper, reviews on some of the important design features and design improvements on FSRU together with the practical construction aspects in cargo containment, vaporization system, ESD system, and operation modes, have been covered in comparison with actual LNG carrier, onshore receiving terminal, and FPSO systems. In order to materialize an FSRU project, the technical and economic justification has to be preceded. It is believed that once the safety and technical soundness is convinced, the FSRU can bring a higher project feasibility by reducing the overall construction time and cost. Through this study, an FSRU design readily applicable to an actual project has been developed by incorporating experiences gained from many marine and offshore projects. The wide use of proven standard technologies adopted in the series construction of LNG carriers and offshore FPSOs will bring the project efficiency and reliability.

  • In this paper the network costing model alternatives for reasonable interconnection charging are suggested. The current interconnection charge regimes is based on fully distributed costing method. Basically this method doesn't consider the common carrier's efficient network cost because it reflects the actual cost of network In this paper, 1 suggest the basic structure of the network costing model fur applications of incremental costing method that considers the efficient cost based on economics-prospective. And I classify network cost with capital cost and operating cost and analysis their reasonable costing methods.

  • Controllable pitch propeller(CPP) is usually adopted for easy and effective engine controls of a ship in a port. Unfortunately the torsional vibration may occur by a certain variation of engine torque and the major resonance peak may exist within the maximum continuous rating(MCR) In these cases an additional stress concentration on the oil passages such as longitudinal slots notches and circular holes of an oil distributor shaft(ODS) occurs by the torsional vibration of the CPP shaft. In this paper an analysis for the fatigue limit of an ODS system of the 5S70MC engine in a crude oil carrier is done by applying FEM and empirical formulas. Furthermore the additional stress on the ODS is investigated by analyzing the torsional vibration of the shaft system and a control method in which a tuning damper is adopted is introduced in the case of the additional stress exceeds the fatigue limit. The validity of analysis method is verified by comparing the results acquired by an actual measurement of the vibratory torque for the above ODS

  • As the trend of ship's automation has spreaded over from 1950's , it caused shipping industries to develop new concept of ship's officer to operate new type of ships with high technologies. As a result, French started the education of Dual Purpose Officer (DPO) from 1967 for mariners who has skills and knowledge in navigation and engineering area. these experiments were concerned mainly with an improved carrier structure for officers, efficiency in ship's operation and subsequent cost saving, and in these years, many advanced countries in shipping business have been interested in the DPO system and adopted it especially in the Northern Europe and Japan. In Jorea there were researches for DPO based on experience of those in foreign countries in the middle of 1980's and established it with revision of relevant domestic regulation in 1990. Korean shipping industry will meet first graduates from DPO program in the near future but it seems that there were not sufficient studies to prepare actual practice. In the paper it was tried to analyze korean DPO system in the structure of education and certification by comparing them with foreign one and found that curriculums of the two maritime universites in Korea are quite suitable under circumstances of domestic shiping industry but some amendments are needed in relevant regulations.

  • In this paper, the procedure of generation and application of nonlinear wave loads for structural design of large container carrier was described. Ship motion and wave load was calculated by modified strip method. Pressure acting on wetted hull surface was calculated taking into account of relative hull motion to the wave. Design wave height was determined based on the most sensitive wave length considering rule vertical wave bending moment at head sea or fellowing sea condition. And the enforced heeling angie concept which was introduced by Germanischer Lloyd (GL) classification had been used to simulate high torsional moment in way of fore hold parts similar to actual sea going condition. Using wave load generated from this dynamic load calculation, FE analyses were performed. With this result, yielding, buckling, hatch diagonal deflection and fatigue strength of hatch corners were reviewed based on the requirement of GL classification. The results of FE analysis show good compatibility with GL classification.

  • The noise analysis is usually carried out in the early structure design stage for the main areas in a vessel such as an accommodation, an engine room, HVAC System and etc. If the analysis results are higher than the noise limits based on guideline, appropriate countermeasures are established to reduce noise levels and applied to the vessel. But excessive noise induced the main or auxiliary equipment and high pressure steam system is very difficult to check in the initial design stage, and local noise problems frequently appear in actual vessels. This paper deals with excessive noise of the engine control room on LNG carrier. It includes the cause analysis of excessive noise, the countermeasure, and verification. Also, it proves suitability of the countermeasure through the on-board test.

  • As the seriousness of the global environment is gaining our attention recently, studies on application of LCA(Life Cycle Assessment) to ship are being carried out dynamically in various industrial fields. This study was carried out to examine the application of LCA to ships and was focused on the inventory analysis on global warming gas from merchant cargo ships. Two merchant cargo ships were adopted as ship models. Actual voyage data of at last several years was used to analysis the ship's exhaust gas inventory. The analysis shows how many weight of global warming gas being exhausted to transport 1 ton of each cargo per 1 nautical mile.

  • The informations of ship structural design have been represented as the form various drawing plants, but to enhance the design productivity, it is necessary to utilize the advanced technologies such as CAD system and database management system. In this study, efforts are focused on the data modelling of those informations of midship configuration and attribute for the integration of ship structural design programs through database system. As actual example, midship configuration of bulk carrier was visualized by computer graphics. Relational data model is employed and topological informations is used for the best treatment of geometries representing structural arrangement. RDBMS 'ORACLE' was used for the implementation of the results.
