유기게르마늄 화합물인 Ge-132의 분석법 (Analysis of organic germanium, Ge-132)

  • 유기게르마늄 화합물인 Ge-132의 분석법을 확립하였다. 이온교환수지 컬럼을 사용하고 $Na_2B_4O_7$ buffer를 이동상으로 하여 Ge-132를 분리한 다음, 전기전도도 검출기를 사용하여 검출하는 방법을 이용한 결과 50pmol의 농도까지 분석할 수 있었다. 이 방법은 Ge-132의 원료와 제품의 품질 관리에 응용이 가능하였다.

평일과 주말의 활동변화에 따른 대학생들의 이산화질소 노출 (Determination of Nitrogen Dioxide Exposure for University Students by Activity Pattern of Weekday and Weekend)

  • Indoor air quality tends to be the dominant contributor to personal exposure, because most people spend over 80% of their time indoors. In this study, indoor and outdoor NO$_2$ concentrations were measured and compared with simultaneously personal exposures of 21 university students in weekday and weekend. House characteristics and activity pattern were used to determine the impacts of these factors on personal exposure. Since university students spent most of their times in indoor, their NO$_2$ exposure was associated with indoor NO$_2$ level rather than outdoor NO$_2$ level both weekday and weekend in spite of different time activity. Using time-weighted average model, NO$_2$ exposures of university students were estimated by NO$_2$ measurements in indoor home, indoor school, and outdoor home levels. Estimated NO$_2$ personal exposures were significantly correlated with measured NO$_2$ personal exposures($r^2$=0.87). However, estimated personal NO$_2$ exposures by time-weighted average model were underestimated, comparing with the measured personal NO$_2$ exposure. Using multiple regression analysis, effect of personal NO$_2$ exposure for transportation was confirmed.

  • The preparations of deodorizing fibers using $TiO_2$ have been investigated. The fibers were coated with $TiO_2$ for the purpose of deodorizing by dipping fibers into the $TiO_2$ sol solutions and calcined at $450^\circ{C}$, $500^\circ{C}$ and $750^\circ{C}$ for 1 h after coating. The surface structure of the coated fibers was studied with XRD on the different preparation conditions of calcination temperatures. The deodorizing function of the prepared fibers was studied by the determination of the decomposing capability for $NH_3,\;CH_3SH\;and\;CH_3CHO$. The deodorant activity(D.A.) of these deodoriBing fibers was measured by chromogenic gas detector tubes. The deodorizing effect of the prepared fibers were shown to be similar for the three model compounds; 5wt% $TiO_2$ sol solution calcined at $450^\circ{C}$ < 5 wt% $TiO_2$ sol solution calcined at $500^\circ{C}$< 5 wt% TiO$_2$ sol solution calcined at $750^\circ{C}$.

Determination of indoor doses and excess lifetime cancer risks caused by building materials containing natural radionuclides in Malaysia

  • The activity concentrations of $^{226}Ra$, $^{232}Th$, and $^{40}K$ from 102 building materials samples were determined using a high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector. The activity concentrations were evaluated for possible radiological hazards to the human health. The excess lifetime cancer risks (ELCR) were also estimated, and the average values were recorded as $0.42{\pm}0.24{\times}10^{-3}$, $3.22{\pm}1.83{\times}10^{-3}$, and $3.65{\pm}1.85{\times}10^{-3}$ for outdoor, indoor, and total ELCR respectively. The activity concentrations were further subjected to RESRAD-BUILD computer code to evaluate the long-term radiation exposure to a dweller. The indoor doses were assessed from zero up to 70 years. The simulation results were $92{\pm}59$, $689{\pm}566$, and $782{\pm}569{\mu}Sv\;y^{-1}$ for indoor external, internal, and total effective dose equivalent (TEDE) respectively. The results reported were all below the recommended maximum values. Therefore, the radiological hazards attributed to building materials under study are negligible.

Cradle to Gate Emissions Modeling for Scheduling of Construction Projects

  • This paper presents an innovative way of integrating scheduling and project controls with the environmental impact of a construction project to track, monitor, and manage environmental emissions at the activity level. As a starting point, scheduling and project controls help monitor the status of a project to provide an assessment of the duration and sequence of activities. Additionally, project schedules can also reflect resource allocation and costs associated with various phases of a construction project. Owners, contractors and construction managers closely monitor tasks or activities on the critical path(s) and/or longest path(s) calculated through network based scheduling techniques. However, existing industry practices do not take into account environmental impact associated with each activity during the life cycle of a project. Although the environmental impact of a project may be tracked in various ways, that tracking is not tied to the project schedule and, as such, generally is not updated when schedules are revised. In this research, a Cradle to Gate approach is used to estimate environmental emissions associated with each activity of a sample project schedule. The research group has also investigated the potential determination of scenarios of lowest environmental emissions, just as project managers currently determine scenarios with lowest cost or time. This methodology can be scaled up for future work to develop a library of unit emissions associated with commonly used construction materials and equipment. This will be helpful for project owners, contractors, and construction managers to monitor, manage, and reduce the carbon footprint associated with various projects.

Accuracy Analysis of Predicted CODE GIM in the Korean Peninsula

  • One recent notable method for real-time elimination of ionospheric errors in geodetic applications is the Predicted Global Ionosphere Map (PGIM). This study analyzes the level of accuracy achievable when applying the PGIM provided by the Center for Orbit Determination of Europe (CODE) to the Korean Peninsula region. First, an examination of the types and lead times of PGIMs provided by the International GNSS Service (IGS) Analysis Center revealed that CODE's two-day prediction model, C2PG, is available approximately eight hours before midnight. This suggests higher real-time usability compared to the one-day prediction model, C1PG. When evaluating the accuracy of PGIM by assuming the final output of the Global Ionosphere Map (GIM) as a reference, it was found that on days with low solar activity, the error is within ~2 TECU, and on days with high solar activity, the error reaches ~3 TECU. A comparison of the errors introduced when using PGIM and three solar activity indices-Kp index, F10.7, and sunspot number-revealed that F10.7 exhibits a relatively high correlation coefficient compared to Kp-index and sunspot number, confirming the effectiveness of the prediction model.

Feasibility of the Depth Camera-based Physical Health Monitoring System for Elderly Living Alone

  • Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the validity of a depth camera-based system for monitoring physical function, assessing its feasibility for accurately monitoring activities of daily living. Design: A cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty-three participants were enlisted to perform fifteen activities of daily living within a living laboratory designed to simulate a home environment. Activities were monitored using a depth camera system capable of classifying actions into standing, sitting, and lying down, with a conventional video camera employed for activity recording. The duration of each activity, as measured by the system, was compared to direct observations made by a physical therapist which were analyzed using a motion analysis software. The association between these two measurement approaches was assessed through correlation analysis, coefficient of determination, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and Bland-Altman plots. Results: Our findings indicated that standing activities exhibited the highest correlation (r=0.847) between the system measurements and physical therapist observations, followed by sitting (r=0.817) and lying down (r=0.734), which demonstrated lower correlations. However, the ICC and Bland-Altman plots revealed notable variances between the two measurement methods, particularly for activities involving lying down. Conclusions: In this study, the depth camera-based physical monitoring system showed promise feasibility in distinguishing standing, sitting, and lying down activities at home environments. However, the current study also underlined some necessities of enhancements in capturing lying down activities.

방사능비 $^{l44}Ce /^{l37}Cs$ 검출에 의한 사용후핵연료 냉각기간 결정 (Cooling Time Determination of Spent Nuclear Fuel by Detection of Activity Ratio $^{l44}Ce /^{l37}Cs$)

  • 반감기가 서로 크게 다른 두 종류의 방사성 직접핵분열생성물의 방사능비(activity ratio)를 핵연료의 냉각기간 및 연소이력의 함수로 표현하였으며 연소이력에는 사용후핵연료의 평균연소도, 연소기간, 연소주기간의 간격 그리고 주 핵분열물질등이 포함되었다. 고리 1호기에서 연소된 6개의 사용후 가압경수로(PWR) 핵연료 집합체로 부터 36개의 시료를 제작하여 이들 시료에 대한 감마선 스펙트럼을 고순도(HP) Ge 검출기를 사용하여 수집한 후, 각 스펙트럼을 분석하여 얻은 방사능비 $^{l44}$Ce $^{l37}$ Cs를 이용하여 냉각기간을 계산하였다. 그 결과 $^{l44}$Ce 감마선 검출계수율이 $10^{-3}$ cps(count per second) 정도로 아주 낮았음에도 불구하고 검출된 방사능비 $^{l44}$Ce $^{l37}$ Cs를 사용하여 구한 냉각기간은 원자로 운전기록에 의한 냉각기간 (operator declared cooling time)과 상대적인 차이가 $\pm$5% 이내로 잘 일치한 것으로 부터 핵 분열 생성물 $^{l44}$Ce 및 $^{l37}$ Cs은 냉각기간 결정을 위한 좋은 모니터가 됨을 확인하였다. 여러가지의 연소 이력을 갖는 핵연료를 대상으로 한 본 실험의 경우, 단순하게 모델화한 연소이력을 대입하여 얻은 냉각기간은 실제 연소이력을 대입하여 얻은 냉각기간과 시간차이가 $\pm$0.5년 이내에서 잘 맞았으며 이로부터 연소이력에 대한 정확한 정보 없이도 신뢰할 수 있는 정도의 냉각기간을 추정하는 것이 가능할 것으로 생각되었다. 아울러 냉각기간 결정을 위한 본 기술을 활용한 사용후 핵연료의 증명 및/또는 분류에 대한 타당성 연구를 한 결과 감마선 분광분석 방법으로 검출한 방사능비 $^{l44}$Ce $^{l37}$ Cs에 의해서 결정된 냉각기간은, 조사후시험시설 (post irradiation examination facility)등과 같이 사용후핵연료 집합체를 해체 또는 절단하여 만든 시료를 취급하는 시설등에서,사용후핵연료에 대한 안전관리 및 계량관리를 위하여 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료되었다.것으로 사료되었다.

울금 에탄올 추출물의 항산화 활성 비교 (Antioxidative Property of Turmeric (Curcumae Rhizoma) Ethanol Extract)

  • 천연물로부터 안전성과 안정성이 우수한 항산화성 물질을 찾기 위하여 생약류 10종을 선정하여 95% ethanol으로 추출하면서 추출 수율과 팜유를 기질로한 항산화력을 비교한 결과 울금이 가장 좋은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 울금 추출물을 팜유에 대해 첨가농도를 $0.05{\sim}0.5%$까지 높혀 가면서 현재 사용되는 천연 항산화제인 mixed tocopherol, rosemary 추출물들과 비교하여 항산화력을 측정한 결과 0.05%까지는 3종류 모두 유사한 항산화 효과를 나타내었으나 그 이상의 농도에 있어서는 울금 추출물의 항산화력이 월등히 우수하였다. 돈지에 대한 울금 추출물의 항산화 효과는 0.01% 첨가시 AI가 4.59로서 1.57인 팜유보다 월등하였으며, 대두유에 대해서는 첨가에 따른 항산화 효과가 전혀 나타나지 않았다. 각종 지방산 메틸에스테르에 울금 추출물을 각각 0.05%, 0.1% 첨가하였을 때 oleic acid methyl ester에 대해서는 AI가 각각 3.01, 4.33으로 크게 증가하였으나, linoleic acid methyl eser에 대해서는 각각 0.85, 0.96으로서 오히려 감소하는 경향이 나타났다.

TNP-cellulose의 섬유소 분해효소 활성도 측정을 위한 기질로서의 특성 (Characterization of TNP-cellulose as Substrate for Cellulase Assay)

  • Carboxyrrethyl cellulose CM32 (Whatman Biochemical Ltd.)로 조제한 TNP-cellulose에 대하여 섬유소 분해효소의 활성도 측정을 위한 기질로서의 특성을 검토하였다. 섬유소 분해효소에 의한 TNP-cellulose의 가수분해는 Michaelis-Menten kinetics에 의하였으며, 그 분해의 위치가 amide결합이 아니고 섬유소 부분임을 확인하였다. 효소원이 다른 세가지 섬유소 분해효소 (Onozuka R-10 from Trichoderma viride; Cellulase II from Aspergillus niger; cell-free enzyme from Cellulomonas sp.)의 활성도를 TNP-cellulose를 기질로 하여 측정할때 그 반응조건을 기왕의 환원당 측정법과 비교해 보면: 반응 온도의 범위에는 변화가 없었으나, pH범위는 여러 효소에서 다소 넓어짐으로서 TNP-cellulose를 기질로 할때 수소이온의 영향을 적게 받음을 확인하였다. TNP-cellulose를 기질로 사용한 활성도 측정방법은: 세가지 효소 모두 일정 농도의 범위에서 활성도와 비례관계가 성립함으로서 효소원이 다른 여러 섬유소 분해효소에 적용할 수 있으며; 기왕의 DNSA법에 의한 환원당 측정법보다 감도가 높았고; 그 활성도의 값은 기왕의 환원당 측정법이나 점성도 측정법에 의한 결과와 대체로 비례적이었으나, 효소의 종류에 따라서 점성도 측정법의 결과와 반드시 일치하지는 않음으로서, 순수한 endo-효소의 활성도 측정을 위한 특이적인 방법이 되지 못함을 알수 있었다.
