  • The relationships among the contents of Pb, Zn, Cd, Cu and microbial biomass and activity of soil were investigated in Kyongbu, Yongdong, and Chungbu highways. The heavy metal concentrations were the highest in Kyongbu highway with high traffic density. The levels of these metals in soil in three highway sites were much higher than Mt. Kwank as control site. The highest concentrations of heavy metals were found in the upper layer of soil adjacent to the roadside. Dehydrogenase activity (DHA) and adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP) contents were generally lowest at distance of 0.5 m from the roadside. Simple regression analysis indicated that DHA and ATP contents were highly negatively correlated with Pb and Zn concentrations.

  • Digital information society shows a variety of contents of cross-categorial digital media in their inner or outer forms and concepts of the artistic aspects. In order to cope with such a complicated, unexpected trend in digital media and its industry, a new approach in the design process needs to be developed and adjusted with the new equipment of the creativity-thinking process of 'the Multi-Sensory Device (MSD),' 'the Multi-Dimensional Device (MDD),' and 'the Storytelling Device (SD)' in the Prism Effect-based Creativity-Thinking Process (PECTP). The PECTP is in principle designed to practically work with the four distinct techniques: 1) Physical Activity, 2) Linguistic Activity, 3) Visual Activity, and 4) Complex Activity. Consequently, this thesis notes that the nature of the cross-categorial design contents is necessarily non-directional since the creativity power inside the Prism Effect results in openness and diversity.

  • The effects or polyamines on growth, anthocyanin contents and $\beta$-glucan synthetase(GSII) activity in carrot hairy root were studied. Growth of hairy root was stimulated somewhat when each polyamine concentration was treated, especially addition of 1mM spermidine resulted in about 20% increase. On the whole, the axial diameter of hairy root was increased in response to increase in concentration of polyamine. On the other hand, GSII activity was stimulated in response to increase in concentration of polyamine, especially addition of 1mM spermine resulted in about 100% increase of activity. Therefore increased activity of GSII stimulated growth and thickness of hairy root. Anthocyanin contents were not affected by the polyammine.

  • This study analyzed the educational contents related with child's human rights in a manual of the Nuri Curriculum for 5-year-olds based on the type and area of activity, 5 areas, and by life theme. The research results are as follows: First, the educational contents on child's human rights in activity type and area showed high frequency in the order of large and small group activity, child selected play activity, and outdoor activity, and among them, right to an education and right to play showed the highest frequency. Second, among the five categories, the area that conducts educational contents on child's human rights was the social relation category, and the area that showed the highest participation was the educational contents on human rights. On the other hand, the areas that were treated the least were physical activity and health. Third, the topic that treated the educational contents related with child's human rights was 'spring, summer, fall, winter,' and 'my family and I' treated educational contents on child's human rights in the lowest frequency. Also, whereas the right to education and right to play showed the highest frequency of educational contents on child's human rights among entire life themes, the educational contents on child's human rights of abuse and neglect(violence) were not treated at all in the entire life themes. Through the results of this study, it will be helpful in planning and deploying activities related with the child's human rights harmoniously, and intends to provide important basic data in organizing activities of human rights program linked with the elementary school. Furthermore, this study intended to provide basic information for developing a program of systematic child's human rights education for children in addition to the curriculum at a national level.

  • In this study, analysis of active compounds that are believed to be highly relevant to antioxidant activity was carried out on the methanol extract and its solvent fractions of Corni fructus. The DPPH radical scavenging activity for the comparison of antioxidant activity was higher in order of aqueous fraction > methanol extract > ethyl acetate fraction > n-hexane fraction. It is similar to the order of total polyphenol contents in the samples. As a result of LC-MS analysis, phenolic acid compounds such as caffeic acid, gallic acid and chlorogenic acid and lognin, which is known as a representative active ingredient of Corni fructus, were identified as active compounds. And the antioxidative activity and the total polyphenol content of the extracts and solvent fractions were found to be related to the contents of the compounds. Particularly, it was confirmed that phenolic acid such as caffeic acid contributes to the antioxidative activity of the aqueous fraction of Corni fructus methanol extract.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the antioxidant activity of the extracts of lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertner). The total phenolic contents in leaf, stem, and root were 165, 74, and 30 tannic acid equivalent mg/g of dried extract or fraction respectively. The butanol and ethylacetate fractions of lotus parts showed higher 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity than other fractions. 2,2'-Azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) cation radical scavenging activity also showed the similar result as the DPPH radical scavenging activity. The antioxidative capacity of the ethylacetate fraction was the highest among fractions and its fraction showed higher contents of total polyphenol.

  • This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of ginseng total sapoin (GTS) on locomotor activity that had been increased by caffeine. Catecholamines, noradrenaline and dopamine, possible mediators for the locomotor activity, were measllred in the mouse whole brain, cortex and the re- mainder. The locomotor activity was measured in circlllar activity cages equipped with six light sources and photocells. The catecholamine contents in the mollse brain were determined by HPLC-fluorescence detection. GTS (50 and 100 mg/kg) reduced the increased locomotor activity by caffeine (25 mg/kg) dose-devendently. Caffeine increased the norevinephrint and dopamine in mouse whole brain and cortex dose-dependently. GTS reduced the norevinevhrine in the remainder, and reduced the dopamine in the cortex which had been increased by caffeine.

  • The objective of this study was to compare antioxidant effects of different extracts of Salicornia bigelovii seed. DPPH radical scavenging activity, chelating activity of ferrous, superoxide anion radical-scavenging activity, hydroxyl radical scavenging activity, and contents of total polyphenol and flavonoid were measured for different extracts. Ethanol extract (10 mg/mL) was found to have the maximum DPPH radical scavenging and superoxide anion radical scavenging activities (65.26 and 62.36%, respectively). However, hot water extract (10 mg/mL) showed the highest hydroxyl radical scavenging and chelating activities (51.50 and 53.24%, respectively). Total phenolics and flavonoid contents in the ethanol extract were 522.8 and $480.35{\mu}g/mg$, respectively. They were 401.51 and $352.60{\mu}g/mg$, respectively, in the hot water extract. These results indicate that ethanol and hot water extracts of S. bigelovii seed have good potential to be used as a new source of antioxidants for functional foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.

  • The content of anthocyanin, cyanidin 3-glucoside (C3G) and the peonidin 3-glucoside (P3G) from 591 rice cultivars and the antioxidative activities of MeOH extract from 8 rice cultivars were evaluated. Among them, C3G content of pigmented rice were ranged from 0 to 451.9mg in 100 g brown rice, while the P3G contents were in the range from 0 to 42.7mg in 100g brown rice. There was no correlation between C3G and P3G content. Total anthocyanin content ranged from 0 to 475.1mg in 100g brown rice. The antioxidative activity, the scavenging activity on DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-picryl-hydrazyl) radical of MeOH extracts from rice grain, were different according to cultivars. The activity of blockish purple pericarp rice cultivars was twice stronger than that of white pericarp cultivar. Especially, the antioxidative activity of Heugjinjubyeo was four times stronger than that of white pericarp cultivar. The scavenging effect on DPPH radical in rice extracts was related to the total anthocyanin contents of the extracts.
