The (c-Jun N-terminal kinase 3) JNK3 is a potential therapeutic target for various neurological disorders. Here, a three dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) study on phenoxypyridine as JNK3 inhibitors was performed to rationalize the structural requirements responsible for the inhibitory activity of these compounds. The comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) using different partial atomic charges, was employed to understand the structural factors affecting JNK3 inhibitory potency. The Gasteiger-Marsili yielded a CoMFA model with cross-validated correlation coefficient ($q^2$) of 0.54 and non-cross-validated correlation coefficient ($r^2$) of 0.93 with five components. Furthermore, contour maps suggested that bulky substitution with oxygen atom in $R^3$ position could enhance the activity considerably. The work suggests that further chemical modifications of the compounds could lead to enhanced activity and could assist in the design of novel JNK3 inhibitors.
Galgeuntang water extract exhibited a strong free radical scavenging activity and reducing power determination. However, a gradual increase in the free radical scavenging activity and reducing power determination was obtained with increasing concentrations. The highest radical scavenging activity was shown by the water extract from Galgeuntang (116.93 ${\mu}g$/mL) and the water extract from Cinnamonum cassia Presl. (95.01 ${\mu}g$/mL). These results of phenolic and flavonoid contents of the extracts indicated that the strong radical scavenging activity of the Cinnamonum cassia Presl. extract might be in part due to the phenolic compounds. The correlation coefficient between TPC and DPPH ($r^2$ = 0.9312), TFC and DPPH ($r^2$ = 0.9677), showed positive correlation among total phenolic/flavonoid contents and antioxidant activity. These results suggest that Galgeuntang has a potential antioxidant activity.
The sun is not equally bright over the whole sphere, but rather is darkened toward the limb. This effect is well-known as limb darkening. The limb darkening coefficient is defined by the ratio of the center intensity to limb intensity. In this study, we calculate the limb darkening coefficient using the photospheric intensity estimated from solar images taken by solar and helispheric observatory (SOHO) and solar dynamics observatory (SDO). The photospheric intensity data cover almost two solar cycles from May 1996 to December 2016. The limb darkening coefficient for a size of 0.9 diameter is about 0.69 and this value is consistent with solar limb darkening. The limb darkening coefficient estimated from SOHO shows a temporal increase at solar maximum and a gradual increase since the solar minimum of 2008. The limb darkening coefficient estimated from SDO shows a constant value of about 0.65 and a decreasing trend since 2014. The increase in the coefficient reflects the effect of weakened solar activity. However, the decrease since 2014 is caused by the aging effect.
Objective : This study aimed to assess the applicability of the Yonsei Lifestyle Profile (YLP), initially developed for adults, for adolescents and verify its reliability and validity. Methods : This study evaluated the reliability and validity of the YLP among 436 middle and high school students in South Korea. The internal consistency of this scale was analyzed using Cronbach's alpha and Spearman-Brown's coefficient. Concurrent validity was assessed using Pearson's correlation coefficient with the Korean Youth Physical Activity Questionnaire, the Korean version of the Children and Adolescents Participation Scale, and the Nutrition Quotient for Adolescents. Results : The overall internal consistency of the YLP items demonstrated high reliability, with a Cronbach's α of .811 and Spearman-Brown's coefficient of .779. Significant positive correlations were observed for physical activity (r=.555, p<.01), activity participation (r=.177, p<.01), and dietary habits (r=.633, p<.05), indicating consistent correlations with the related scales. Conclusion : This study analyzed the YLP targeting adolescents and confirmed its high reliability and significant validity in the areas of physical activity, activity participation, and dietary habits. These findings suggest that the YLP can be utilized as a reliable tool for evaluating healthy lifestyles among adolescents.
This experiment was conducted to determine the extent to which susceptibility to cortisol-induced follicle shutdown is influenced by fleece phentotype. Twenty Finewool (10 sheep low fibre diameter, low coefficient of fibre diameter-LL and 10 low fibre diameter, high coefficient of variation of fibre diameter-LH) and twenty Strongwool (10 low fibre diameter, low coefficient of variation of fibre diameter-HL and 10 high fibre diameter and high coefficient of variation of fibre diameter-HH) sheep of 9 months of age were individually penned in an animal house and were injected intramuscularly with an aqueous suspension of hydrocortisone acetate at a rate of 1.42 mg/kg body weight for a period of two weeks. Fibre diameter was measured from clipped tattooed patch wool samples. Follicle activity was measured by histological changes in skin biopsies taken weekly. Blood samples were collected at two-week intervals and plasma cortisol measured. Increased plasma cortisol concentration significantly (p<0.05) reduced clean wool production and mean fibre diameter dropped to its lowest level four weeks after commencement and two weeks after the cessation of cortisol injection. Elevation of plasma cortisol concentration significantly (p<0.0001) increased the percentage of inactive follicles two weeks after injection started. High fibre diameter groups (Strongwool sheep; i.e. HL+HH) had significantly (p<0.0001) higher percentage of follicle shutdown than low fibre diameter groups (Finewool sheep; i.e. LL+LH). Average percentage of shutdown follicles for Finewool (LL+LH) and Strongwool (HL+HH) Merino sheep was $9.8{\pm}0.9$ and $13.5{\pm}0.9$ respectively. Shutdown of primary follicles was more pronounced in Finewool than Strongwool sheep. There was no significant effect of coefficient of variation of fibre diameter on propensity to follicle shutdown induced by exogenous cortisol. It is concluded that elevation in plasma cortisol concentration is inhibitory to the normal activity of follicles in Strongwool sheep but that variation in fibre diameter has little or no effect.
Utilizing a new version of the sunspot number and group sunspot number dataset available since 2015, we have statistically studied the relationship between solar activity parameters describing solar cycles and the slope of the linear relationship between the monthly sunspot numbers and the monthly number of active days in percentage (AD). As an effort of evaluating possibilities in use of the number of active days to predict solar activity, it is worthwhile to revisit and extend the analysis performed earlier. In calculating the Pearson's linear correlation coefficient r, the Spearman's rank-order correlation coefficient rs, and the Kendall's τ coefficient with the rejection probability, we have calculated the slope for a given solar cycle in three different ways, namely, by counting the spotless day that occurred during the ascending phase and the descending phase of the solar cycle separately, and during the period corresponding to solar minimum ± 2 years as well. We have found that the maximum solar sunspot number of a given solar cycle and the duration of the ascending phase are hardly correlated with the slope of a linear function of the monthly sunspot numbers and AD. On the other hand, the duration of a solar cycle is found to be marginally correlated with the slope with the rejection probabilities less than a couple of percent. We have also attempted to compare the relation of the monthly sunspot numbers with AD for the even and odd solar cycles. It is inconclusive, however, that the slopes of the linear relationship between the monthly group numbers and AD are subject to the even and odd solar cycles.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between physical activity and fatigue in patients with cancer. Methods: The participants of the study were 118 patients who had been diagnosed with cancer at least more than three months before at a university hospital. Physical activity was measured by IPAQ Korean version (2006), and fatigue by the Revised Piper Fatigue Scale. The collected data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: Continuous physical activity overall in this study was on average $2,154.03{\pm}2,845.86$ MET, and the overall degree of fatigue of the participants was $4.47{\pm}1.80$. There were significant negative correlations between fatigue and moderate physical activity. Conclusion: The findings of the study suggested that moderate physical activity is effective for improving fatigue in cancer patients.
The change of plasma renin activity is one of the most important parameters explaining the pathological physiology of the hypertension. The relation between renal renin activity and plasma renin activity has not well been documented since last decades. In an attempt to clarify the relationship a series of experiments have been done in rats. The following results were observed. 1) Renal renin activity of clamped kidney increased after silver clipping and the increments were maintained until four to five weeks of operation. 2) Renal renin activity of the untouched contralateral kidney was vulnerable to be suppressed just after clamping, and the activity disappered almost below the limitation of the radioimmunoassay sensitivity up to four weeks. 3) Plasma lenin activity was changed by the renal renin activity, but the regression coefficient from the two kidney one clip Goldblatt hypertensive rats was different from the sham-operated, or age-matched control rats. 4) Plasma renin activity of all the groups tested has the exponential curve in terms of renal renin activity. These data suggest that the renal renin activity is important to control the plasma renin activity in certain experimental condition, especially in chronic status.

A chloride is an important deteriorating factor which governs the durability of the reinforced-concrete structures under marine environments. Also, the main penetration mechanism of chloride ion into concrete is a diffusion phenomenon and numerous methods have been proposed to determine the diffusion coefficient of chloride ion quickly. In this study, electrically accelerated experiments were carried out in order to evaluate diffusion coefficient of the chloride ion into concrete. The methods were diffusion cell test method in which the voltage of 15V(DC) was applied. The type of cement is blended cement in which the admixtures of blast-furnace slag and fly ash were used. In conclusion, the diffusion coefficient of chloride ion is much affected according to mineral admixtures and the diffusion coefficient of ternary blended cement showed very low values. it is presumably said that this result is due to highly densified pore structures by the aid of slag substitution and pozzolanic activity of fly ash.
Cancer has emerged as one of the leading cause of deaths worldwide. A three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) analysis was performed on a series of quinazoline-based anticancer agents. Purpose of the study is to understand the structural basis for their inhibitory activity. Comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) technique was employed to develop 3D-QSAR model. Ligand-based alignment scheme was used to generate a reliable CoMFA model. The model produced statistically significant results with a cross-validated correlation coefficient ($q^2$) of 0.589 and a non-cross-validated correlation coefficient ($r^2$) of 0.928. Model was further validated by bootstrapping and progressive scrambling analysis. This study could assist in the design of novel and more potent anticancer agents.
