The increasing evidence for the involvement of food borne HAs in the aetiology of human cancer has stimulated intense efforts to identify dietary constituents which protect against these compounds. About 280 articles on this topic have been published in the last 20 years, most of them were antimutagenicity studies with indicator cells that require addition of exogenous activation mix. The experimental models do not adequately reflect protective mechanisms that are active in vivo and may give misleading results.(omitted)

By targeting 113 gifted underachievers and 128 gifted achievers from 17 elementary schools, this study examines the home variables that affect gifted children's underachievement. In an effort to determine home variables of gifted achievers and underachievers, their homes' socio-economic status was analyzed and their parental child-rearing behavior was examined. First, the home environments of the gifted achievers and underachievers were compared, with the finding that their homes' socio-economic status, parental child-rearing behavior and other home factors differed. Parents of gifted achievers raised their children in a rational and democratic manner, while those of gifted underachievers tended to raise their children in an irrational and authoritarian manner. Second, discrimination analysis was conducted using home variables that showed a statistically significant difference, indicating that their homes' socio-economic status showed a low discrimination compared with their parental child-rearing behavior. Likewise, among the family factors, active involvement had the greatest effect on the underachievement of gifted children.

The major purpose of this study was to explore mediating effects of narcissism between perceived popularity and aggression in adolescence. The subjects who participated in this study were 783 middle school students based in Busan. The results indicated that perceived popularity and narcissism were positively correlated to overt and relational aggression. The effects of perceived popularity on overt and relational aggression was perfectly mediated by narcissism. Athletic and fighting abilities were more important for boys' perceived popularity, but active involvement in social activity and appearance were more important for girls' perceived popularity. It was further observed that having a good sense of humour was the most important determinant of perceived popularity, irrespective of gender.

In rapidly changing environments of Foodservice Industry, it would be leading companies have made constant efforts to establish efficient management through active involvement in management accounting. Especially the foodservice business in Korea needs more critical managerial environment to grow and develope as a going business, these management environment is changed according to deepening of the competition between foodservice companies and customer's wants. In order to succeed in this change of management environment, a new managerial policy is required which the economic environment, estimates the level and the direction of change and makes efficient use of various resources through internal control.

The purpose of this study was to investigate English teachers' perceptions about doing their own action research to find out the benefits of involvement in action research. I believe that teachers should engage in curriculum research and development because it relates to their own classrooms and because a primary aim for teacher education program is to give teachers ways of exploring their own classrooms. I focused on 17 graduate students who had undertaken action research during the fall semester of 2007 and administered a questionnaire about their perceptions of doing action research. The results revealed that their perceptions of doing action research fell into the following two categories, positive and negative aspects. For positive aspects, they experienced a sense of personal and professional growth and they underwent identity transformation from passive, etic-oriented, and uncritical to active, emic-oriented, and critical teachers. However, many of them expressed that major obstacles to doing action research were time constraints and lack of skills or training in conducting action research. Thus, it is suggested that both pre- and in-service teachers should consider conducting a language teaching diary study, doing collaborative action research, and acquiring all the necessary skills for conducting action research.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of noncoding RNAs that negatively regulate target messenger RNAs. In multicellular eukaryotes, numerous miRNAs perform basic cellular functions, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and death. Abnormal expression of miRNAs weakens or modifies various apoptosis pathways, leading to the development of human cancer. Cell death occurs in an active manner that maintains tissue homeostasis and eliminates potentially harmful cells through regulated cell death processes, including apoptosis, autophagic cell death, and necroptosis. In this review, we discuss the involvement of miRNAs in regulating cell death pathways in cancers and the potential therapeutic functions of miRNAs in cancer treatment.

Orthognathic surgery has steadily evolved, gradually expanding its scope of application beyond its original purpose of simply correcting malocclusion and the facial profile. For instance, it is now used to treat obstructive sleep apnea and to achieve purely cosmetic outcomes. Recent developments in three-dimensional digital technology are being utilized throughout the entire process of orthognathic surgery, from establishing a surgical plan to printing the surgical splint. These processes have made it possible to perform more sophisticated surgery. The goal of this review article is to introduce current trends in the field of orthognathic surgery and controversies that are under active discussion. The role of a plastic surgeon is not limited to performing orthognathic surgery itself, but also encompasses deep involvement throughout the entire process, including the set-up of surgical occlusion and overall surgical planning. The authors summarize various aspects in the field of orthognathic surgery with the hope of providing helpful information both for plastic surgeons and orthodontists who are interested in orthognathic surgery.

A lily strain of Cucumber mosaic virus (LK-CMV) was not able to systemically infect zucchini squash (Cucurbita pepo), while Fny strain of CMV (Fny-CMV) caused systemic mosaic and stunting symptom at 4 days post-inoculation on the same host species. The pathogenicity of LK-CMV in zucchini squash was investigated by reassortments of genomic RNAs of LK-CMV and Fny-CMV for infection, as well as by pseudorecombinants generated from biologically active transcripts of CDNA clones of LK-CMV and Fny-CMV, respectively. The assessments of pathogenicity for LK-CMV indicated that RNA2 of LK-CMV was responsible for systemic infection in zucchini squash. In the protoplast of zucchini squash, the RNA accumulations of all constructed pseudorecombinants were indistinguishable and LK-CMV replication was slightly lower than that of Fny-CMV, suggesting that the inability of LK-CMV to infect squash plants was responsible for the poor efficiency of virus movement, rather than the reduction of replication function.

This research aims to investigate critical factors of the government's role in achieving success in Public Private Partnership (PPP) toll road projects in Indonesia according to government and private sectors' perceptions. A preliminary interview Subsequently a questionnaire survey was also conducted involving 143 respondents across the two sectors from eight operating toll were five critical factors of the government's roles in achieving success in PPP toll road projects, namely; "Active involvement in overall project stage activities", "Establishment of good bureaucracy", "Provision of conducive environment", "Appropriate project planning and competitive tendering" and "Provision of appropriate government support and supervision". This research finding is expected to assist the government in defining clear roles and underlying responsibilities in development of PPP toll roads in Indonesia.

Objective: Despite the recommendation of the use of high-fidelity simulation (HFS) in interprofessional education (IPE), there is little known about its work for nursing students. Thus, this study aimed to explore nurse educators' perceptions and experiences in developing and implementing the HFS-based IPE for nursing and medical students. Methods: This study used a case study, using reflective filed notes. Results: Nursing educators perceived HFS as an effective educational approach to engaging nursing and medical students actively in interprofessional collaborative practice (ICP) experiences and in evaluating their actual performance on it. In terms of their perspectives on the elements necessary for effective HFS-based IPE, four themes were identified: collaborative learning, co-facilitating debriefing, leadership commitment and active faculty involvement.
