  • This paper proposes the highly miniaturized active $90^{\circ} power combiner for application to MMIC. Conventional passive $90^{\circ} power combiners can't be integrated on MMIC because of their very larger size. Therefore, the highly miniaturized $90^{\circ} power combiners are required for a development of highly integrated MMIC. For this paper, the highly miniaturized active $90^{\circ} power combiner employing InGaP/GaAs HBT was fabricated on GaAs substrate for application to highly integrated MMIC. A size of fabricated active $90^{\circ} power combiner was $2.42{\times}1.05$ mm, which was 2.2 % of conventional passive $90^{\circ} power combiner. The fabricated active $90^{\circ} power combiner showed a gain characteristic about 10 dB and a good phase-difference coupling characteristic of $-92.6^{\circ} than conventional passive $90^{\circ} power combiner at 2.4 GHz. The highly miniaturized active $90^{\circ} power combiner exhibited good RF performances comparable to conventional passive $90^{\circ} power combiners. This work is the first report of an active $90^{\circ} power combiner.

  • A high-performance transmit/receive (T/R) switch is essential for every radio-frequency (RF) device. This paper proposes a T/R switch that is designed in the CEDEC 0.13 μm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology for 2.4 GHz ISM-band RF applications. The switch exhibits a 1 dB insertion loss, a 28.6 dB isolation, and a 35.8 dBm power-handling capacity in the transmit mode; meanwhile, for the 1.8 V/0 V control voltages, a 1.1 dB insertion loss and a 19.4 dB isolation were exhibited with an extremely-low power dissipation of 377.14 μW in the receive mode. Besides, the variations of the insertion loss and the isolation of the switch for a temperature change from - 25℃ to 125℃ are 0.019 dB and 0.095 dB, respectively. To obtain a lucrative performance, an active inductor-based resonant circuit, body floating, a transistor W/L optimization, and an isolated CMOS structure were adopted for the switch design. Further, due to the avoidance of bulky inductors and capacitors, a very small chip size of 0.0207 mm2 that is the lowest-ever reported chip area for this frequency band was achieved.

  • The RFID technology has attracted much attention these days due to the far better efficiency than the bar-code and magnetic card system. As an important usage, the 433 MHz active RFID tag was already adopted to the container ports in the United States and Europe for container loading/unloading automation and equipment location. However, there is one problem to be solved for the complete automation. RFID readers support only the direct communication with tags within their RF communication range. Then there are a lot of containers and equipments such as crane, yard tractor, and forklift in ports; and because they are made of metal, they interfere the RF communication, resulting in the occurrence of the dead-zone. In the dead-zone, RFID tags cannot receive any signal from readers. There may be several solutions to resolve the dead-zone problem. Among them, this paper suggests the most economical solution where RFID tags in the dead-zone can communicate with readers via neighbor tags in the multi-hop manner The new RFID communication architecture should be carefully designed in order to maintain the compatibility with the previous standard. Our experiment shows that the proposed architecture works well even in the case where some tags are out of the RF range of reader.

  • The Electronic Toll Collection System based on Free-Flow Multi-Lane is needed to solve some yearly problems such as traffic congestion, safety accident, maintenance by hold-up of one way hi-pass system. The hi-pass communication system is first-in, first-out method in one way environment so, it can't handle various running patterns such as vehicle platoon, switching lane and passing in multi-lane environment. In this thesis we compared and analyzed the communication system of foreign countries ETCS operating system and domestic hi-pass communication system, then studied communication system which can run in multiple-way accepting existing hi-pass OBU. And we formed the communication system of Free-Flow Multi-Lane environment as a plan using incoherent of IR antenna and coherent of RF antenna. The communication system in Free-Flow Multi-Lane environment can be used not alone in parking garages but in expressways of ETCS and toll roads from now on.

  • The EAST ICRF system operating space has been extended in power and phase control with a low-level RF system for the new double-strap antenna. Then the multi-step power and periodic phase scanning experiment were conducted in L-mode plasma, respectively. In the power scanning experiment, the stored energy, radiation power, plasma impedance and the antenna's temperature all have positive responses during the short ramp-ups of PL;ICRF. The core ion temperature increased from 1 keV to 1.5 keV and the core heating area expanded from |Z| ≤ 5 cm to |Z| ≤ 10 cm during the injection of ICRF waves. In the phasing scanning experiment, in addition to the same conclusions as the previous relatively phasing scanning experiment, the superposition effect of the fluctuation of stored energy, radiation power and neutron yield caused by phasing change with dual antenna, resulting in the amplitude and phase shift, was also observed. The active control of RF output facilitates the precise control of plasma profiles and greatly benefits future experimental exploration.

  • In the paper, the power amplifier using active biasing for LDMOS MRF-21060 is designed and fabricated. Driving amplifier using AH1 and parallel power amplifier AH11 is made to drive the LDMOS MRF 21060 power amplifier. The variation of current consumption in the fabricated 5 Watt power amplifier has an excellent characteristics of less than 0.1A, whereas passive biasing circuit dissipate more than 0.5A. The implemented power amplifier has the gain over 12 dB, the gain flatness of less than $\pm$0.09dB and input and output return loss of less than -19dB over the frequency range 2.11~2.17GHz. The DC operation point of this power amplifier at temperature variation from $0^{\circ}C$ to $60^{\circ}C$ is fixed by active circuit.

  • Background: Ginseng saponin has long been used as a traditional Asian medicine and is known to be effective in treating various kinds of pain. Ginsenoside Rf is one of the biologically active saponins found in ginseng. We evaluated ginsenoside Rf's antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects, and its mechanism of action on adrenergic and serotonergic receptors, in an incisional pain model. Methods: Mechanical hyperalgesia was induced via plantar incision in rats followed by intraperitoneal administration of increasing doses of ginsenoside Rf (vehicle, 0.5 mg/kg, 1 mg/kg, 1.5 mg/kg, and 2 mg/kg). The antinociceptive effect was also compared in a Positive Control Group that received a ketorolac (30 mg/kg) injection, and the $Na{\ddot{i}}ve$ Group, which did not undergo incision. To evaluate the mechanism of action, rats were treated with prazosin (1 mg/kg), yohimbine (2 mg/kg), or ketanserin (1 mg/kg) prior to receiving ginsenoside Rf (1.5 mg/kg). The mechanical withdrawal threshold was measured using von Frey filaments at various time points before and after ginsenoside Rf administration. To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect, serum interleukin $(IL)-1{\beta}$, IL-6, and tumor necrotizing $factor-{\alpha}$ levels were measured. Results: Ginsenoside Rf increased the mechanical withdrawal threshold significantly, with a curvilinear dose-response curve peaking at 1.5 mg/kg. $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-6, and tumor necrotizing $factor-{\alpha}$ levels significantly decreased after ginsenoside Rf treatment. Ginsenoside Rf's antinociceptive effect was reduced by yohimbine, but potentiated by prazosin and ketanserin. Conclusion: Intraperitoneal ginsenoside Rf has an antinociceptive effect peaking at a dose of 1.5 mg/kg. Anti-inflammatory effects were also detected.

  • The whole plant of Duchesnea indica (Andr.) Focke (Rosaceae) which has been used in folklore in treating amenorrhea, inflammation, fever and traumatic injuries, in detoxifying and breaking up clots, was studied. The pharmacological test showed that the water extract had estrogenic and histaminergic actions, but no antiserotonin action. As a result of systematic separation in order to detect the active compounds revealing the estrogenic effect, the active compounds were found in the ether fraction. TLC of the ether fraction revealed 8 spots. Among them three major spots (Rf=0.54, 037, 0.31) were separated by preparative TLC. Some chemical properties of those major spots suggested that they were phenolic compounds, but that they were neither linoleic acid nor ${\beta}-sitosterol$ previously reported.

  • An active Balun is designed for RFID reader at 2.45GHz. The Balun is integrated inside the receiver, then the LNA and mixer can be connected. The unbalanced LNA output signal is transformed to a balanced signal at the input mixer The RF mixer and LO mixer, by using this balun. The Balun provided a balanced signal with two output stage, gain mismatch is 0.116dB. The phase show a good behavior with $163.918^{\circ}$,$-16.609^{\circ}$. The phase mismatch is about $0.527^{\circ}$. The tight difference between the gain and phase on each brancd, is because of the used capacitor and integrated inductor and the other parasitic element inside the balun.
