  • This study was carried out to obtain information on the developmental biology and the management of biological resources of the abalone Haliotis gigantea in Korea. The sex ratio (female:male) in the present study was 1:1.7 and the proportion of females was 36.6% (n=106/290). Their gonadal structures displayed definitive seasonal changes which were similar in pattern to the changes in the gonad index (GI). The GI showed a pattern of definitive seasonal changes in both males and females it was high in the fall and low in the spring. The reproductive cycle could be categorized into the following six stages: inactive, early active, late active, ripe, spent, and degenerative stage. Based on the monthly changes in GI and stages of gonadal development, October to November was determined to be the main spawning period for H. gigantea on Jeju Island, Korea.

  • Superframe in IEEE 802.15.4 Standard is subdivided into an active period and an inactive period to reduce energy consumption. But communication nodes use same data transmission range in an active period, thus communication nodes spend a lot of energy to send data another nodes. In this paper, we proposed reduce energy consumption algorithm that nodes use different transmission power. Cordinator split transmission area into four group and transmit becon message to nodes. Nodes adjust transmission power according to becon message and wates lowe energy than normal nodes. We proposed energy-efficient cross layer protocol that have different PAN (Personal Area Network) by four range group.

  • This paper proposes the method of active distribution network expansion planning considering distributed generation integration and distribution network reconfiguration. The distribution network reconfiguration is taken as the expansion planning alternative with zero investment cost of the branches. During the process of the reconfiguration in expansion planning, all the branches are taken as the alternative branches. The objective is to minimize the total costs of the distribution network in the planning period. The expansion alternatives such as active management, new lines, new substations, substation expansion and Distributed Generation (DG) installation are considered. Distribution network reconfiguration is a complex mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem, with integration of DGs and active managements, the active distribution network expansion planning considering distribution network reconfiguration becomes much more complex. This paper converts the dual-level expansion model to Second-Order Cone Programming (SOCP) model, which can be solved with commercial solver GUROBI. The proposed model and method are tested on the modified IEEE 33-bus system and Portugal 54-bus system.

  • Recently, the active interaction control (AIC) system was proposed as a semi-active control system. The AIC system consists of a primary structure and an auxiliary structure. The objective of the AIC system is to control the response of the primary structure through engagement and disengagement between the primary and auxiliary structures. Previous switching control algorithms have been shown to be effective in reducing the response of the primary structure. However, they have the main drawback of requiring an excessive engagement-disengagement frequency and high interaction force. In this paper, the regions in which the switching is activated and the regions in which the switching is deactivated are described separately, to effectively determine the engagement or the disengagement. The general relationship between the switching regions and the deactivated switching regions selected according to the engagement-disengagement conditions is described within the newly-developed comprehensive switching framework. The proposed engagement-disengagement conditions are designed within a comprehensive switching framework, to reduce engagement-disengagement frequency and interaction force. Furthermore, the effect of a control sampling period on the AIC system is explained in terms of the engagement-disengagement frequency. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithms and the effect of the control sampling period are considered for a single degree of freedom model under free vibration. It is observed that increasing the duration of stay by using a large control sampling period prevents the AIC system from activating the possible chance of switching. The proposed algorithms are shown to be effective, both in restricting ineffective switching and in reducing interaction force.

  • An intensive analysis of 185 timings of WZ Cep, including our new three timings, was made to understand the dynamical picture of this active W UMa-type binary. It was found that the orbital period of the system has complexly varied in two cyclical components superposed on a secularly downward parabola over about 80y. The downward parabola, corresponding to a secular period decrease of $-9.{^d}97{\times}10^{-8}y^{-1}$, is most probably produced by the action of both angular momentum loss (AML) due to magnetic braking and mass-transfer from the massive primary component to the secondary. The period decrease rate of $-6.^{d}72{\times}10^{-8}y^{-1}$ due to AML contributes about 67% to the observed period decrease. The mass flow of about $5.16{\times}10^{-8}M_{\odot}y^{-1}$ from the primary to the secondary results the remaining 33% period decrease. Two cyclical components have an $11.^{y}8$ period with amplitude of $0.^{d}0054$ and a $41.^{y}3$ period with amplitude of $0.^{d}0178$. It is very interesting that there seems to be exactly in a commensurable 7:2 relation between their mean motions. As the possible causes, two rival interpretations (i.e., light-time effects (LTE) by additional bodies and the Applegate model) were considered. In the LTE interpretation, the minimum masses of $0.30M_{\odot}$ for the shorter period and $0.49M_{\odot}$ for the longer one were calculated. Their contributions to the total light were at most within 2%, if they were assumed to be main-sequence stars. If the LTE explanation is true for the WZ Cep system, the 7:2 relation found between their mean motions would be interpreted as a stable 7:2 orbit resonance produced by a long-term gravitational interaction between two tertiary bodies. In the Applegate model interpretation, the deduced model parameters indicate that the mechanism could work only in the primary star for both of the two period modulations, but could not in the secondary. However, we couldn't find any meaningful relation between the light variation and the period variability from the historical light curve data. At present, we prefer the interpretation of the mechanical perturbation from the third and fourth stars as the possible cause of two cycling period changes.

  • Cognitive radio is an efficient technique to improve spectrum efficiency and relieve the pressure of spectrum resources. In this paper, we investigate the spectrum sensing period in cooperative relay cognitive radio networks; analyze the relationship between the available capacity and the signal-to-noise ratio of the received signal of second users, the target probability of detection and the active probability of primary users. Finally, we derive the closed form expression of the optimal spectrum sensing period in terms of maximum throughput. We simulate the probability of false alarm and available capacity of cognitive radio networks and compare optimal spectrum sensing period scheme with fixed sensing period one in these performance. Simulation results show that the optimal sensing period makes the cognitive networks achieve the higher throughput and better spectrum sensing performance than the fixed sensing period does. Cooperative relay cognitive radio networks with optimal spectrum sensing period can achieve the high capacity and steady probability of false alarm in different target probability of detection. It provides a valuable reference for choosing the optimal spectrum sensing period in cooperative relay cognitive radio networks.

  • The number of volcanoes erupted during the past ten thousand years(Holocene period) on this planet is known to stand around 1,520. Of those volcanoes, the number of active volcanoes during the six-years and seven-month period(January 2010 through the end of July 2016) is totals 209. These findings show that an average of approximate 90 volcanoes erupted every year since 2010. It is also found that over 90 percent of those active volcanoes took place in the circum-Pacific volcanic belt, which is commonly called 'Ring of Fire'. This status coincides with the distribution maps of active volcanoes on the earth: about 80 percent on subduction zone of the convergence of lithospheric plate; 15 percent on spreading zone; 5 percent on intra-plate zone. The period given in this research during 350 weeks, the following three volcanoes showed a frequency of more than 300 times eruption: Kilauea(Hawaii, USA, 338 times), Sheveluch(Kamchatka, Russia, 337 times), and Aira(Kyushu, Japan, 301 times). According to the survey conducted during the given period, there is no conspicuous increase in the frequency of volcano activities. It rather shows that volcanic eruptions took place almost evenly every year.

  • This study analyzed Korean middle-aged men's fashionable styles according to ageless trends as their representative characteristic and deriving their special features from men's magazines. Literature and case studies were conducted together. The research findings are as follows. First, it showed uniformity, conformity, passive clothing selection and consumption in 1990s as characteristics of middle-aged men's wear by period. However, clothing became an expressive way to pursue individuality and an ageless trend gradually, and middle-aged men positioned themselves as subjects of a consumer market for men's wear after 2010 through active clothing selection and consumption. Second, along with a trend change preferring a comfortable and active to formal atmosphere, it showed that casual style became diversified and segmented gradually in Korean middle-aged men's ageless trend and fashionable style. Third, as for formative characteristic changes in middle-aged men's fashionable style by period, it contained a slim silhouette, bright and splendid colors and patterns, increase of light, active and functional materials, generalization of casual items and pursuit of individuality by various mix & match styles. Fourth, in Korean men's ageless trend and changing fashionable style, four kinds of special characteristics were derived that included a change of the traditional clothing symbolism, weakened conformity & pursuit of personality, obscured boundaries between age and wearing style, and active embracing of a trend.

  • One of the important issues of in this research is effective usage of energy to increase life time of nodes which form a network. Existing LEEM protocol causes unnecessary active time due to small packets with shorter transfer time than active interval period of node and packets with transfer time of more than twice of active interval period of node. In this paper, we propose Energy-Efficient MAC by Reservation (EEMR) protocol which can increase energy effectiveness in wireless sensor network environment by reducing unnecessary active time using a method that reserves next-hop depend upon the size of packet. We evaluated effectiveness of our proposed method through experiments. The result showed that using EEMR protocol had better energy effectiveness than existing LEEM protocol by 15%.
