AESA radar is able to instantaneously and adaptively position and control the beam, and this enables to greatly improve multi-target tracking capability with high accuracy in comparison to traditional mechanically-scanned radar system. This paper is primarily concerned with the development of an efficient methodology for multi-target managenent with the context of multi-target environment employing AESA radar. In this paper, targets are stratified into two principal categories: currently displayed targets and non-display targets, predicated upon their relative priority. Displayed targets are subsequently stratified into TOI (target of interest), HPT (high priority target), and SAT (situational awareness target), based on the requisite levels of tracking accuracy. It also suggests rules for determining target priority management, especially in air-to-air mode including interleaved mode. This proposed approach was tested and validated in a SIL (system integration lab) environment, applying it to AESA radars mounted on aircraft.

Recently, active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, electro-optical and infrared (EO-IR) and infra-red search and track (IRST) sensors are under development in the Korean fighter experimental(KF-X) project, and AESA radar is currently undergoing preliminary research for flight testing. This paper focuses on the flying test bed (FTB) aircraft operation cases of developed countries in accordance with AESA radar development. As a result, we review domestic laws and regulations related to the airworthiness for FTB aircraft to operate in domestic environment and look for ways to operate FTB aircraft. Therefore, we propose how to selecting, airworthiness and operating FTB aircraft suitable for the domestic environment.

This paper introduces a simulator to assess the impacts of the wind and the airframe vibration on the performance of the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar mounted in an aircraft. The AESA radar is mounted on the nose cone of an aircraft, and vibration occurs due to the drag force. This vibration affects the behavior of the AESA radar and can cause phase errors in signal. The simulator adopts the geometric model for nose cone, the mathematical models on the rigid-body dynamics of the aircraft, the average/turbulent winds, and the mode/ambient vibrations to compute the position and the attitude of the radar accurately. Numerical studies reflecting a set of test scenarios were conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed simulator.
AESA radar is able to instantaneously and adaptively position and control the beam, and this enables to have interleaved mode in modern airborne AESA radar which can maximize situational awareness capability. Interleaved mode provides two or more modes simultaneously, such as Air to Air mode and Sea Surface mode by time sharing technique. In this interleaved mode, performance degradation is inevitable, compared with single mode operation, and effective resource allocation is the key component for the success of interleaved mode. In this paper, we identified performance evaluation items for each mode to analyze interleaved mode performance and proposed effective resource allocation methodology to achieve graceful performance degradation of each mode, focusing on detection range. We also proposed beam scheduling techniques for interleaved mode.

AESA(Active Electronically Scanned Array radar) radar is able to instantaneously and adaptively position and control the beam, and such adaptive beam pointing of AESA radar enables to remarkably improve the multi-mission capability. For this reason, radar resource management(RRM) becomes new challenging issue. RRM is a technique efficiently allocating finite resources, such as energy and time to each task in an optimal and intelligent way. This paper deals with a design of radar resource management algorithms and simulator implemented main algorithms for development of airborne AESA radar. In addition, evaluation results show that developed radar system satisfies a main requirement about simultaneous multiple target tracking and detection by adopting proposed algorithms.

For successful operations of an airborne Active Electronically-Scanned Array (AESA) radar, which has various advantages over traditional radar systems, accurate and robust navigation is critical. This paper discusses a study on the performance analysis of an integrated navigation based on the Embedded GPS/INS (EGI) system for an aircraft equipped with an AESA radar. The models for generating the inputs for the GPS/IMU are developed. A navigation filter for a loosely-coupled GPS/IMU system is constructed. Overall navigation performance assessment procedure using a six degree of freedom aircraft simulator - along with the GPS/IMU models and the navigation filter - is introduced. The steps of the performance analysis procedure are explained using a comprehensive case study.

This paper presents a design, fabrication and the test results of planar active electronically scanned array(AESA) radar prototype for airborne fighter applications using transmit/receive(T/R) module hybrid technology. LIG Nex1 developed a AESA radar prototype to obtain key technologies for airborne fighter's radar. The AESA radar prototype consists of a radiating array, T/R modules, a RF manifold, distributed power supplies, beam controllers, compact receivers with ADC(Analog-to-Digital Converter), a liquid-cooling unit, and an appropriate structure. The AESA antenna has a 590 mm-diameter, active-element area capable of containing 536 T/R modules. Each module is located to provide a triangle grid with $14.7\;mm{\times}19.5\;mm$ spacing among T/R modules. The array dissipates 1,554 watts, with a DC input of 2,310 watts when operated at the maximum transmit duty factor. The AESA radar prototype was tested on near-field chamber and the results become equal in expected beam pattern, providing the accurate and flexible control of antenna beam steering and beam shaping.

In this paper, implement and propose an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar integration analysis system which specialized for radar development by using heterogeneous media. Most analysis systems are used to analyze and improve the cause of defects, so they help the test easier. However, previous log analysis systems that operate only based on text are not intuitive and difficult to find the information user want at once if there is a lot of log information. so when an equipment defect occurs, there are limitations in analyzing the cause of defect. Therefore, the analysis system in this paper utilizes heterogeneous media. The media defined in this paper refers to recording text-based data, displaying data as image or video and visualizing data. The proposed analysis system classifies and stores data that transmitted and received between radar devices, radar target detection and Tracking algorithm data, etc. also displays and visualizes radar operation results and equipment defect information in real time. With this analysis system, it can quickly provide information what user want and assistance in developing high quality radar.
The radar installed on an aircraft has various operating modes depending on tactical purposes, allowing for the configuration of search areas according to each mode's operational objectives. active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar emits search beams sequentially according to a predefined search beam grid within the designated search area specified by the pilot to detect targets within it. It is crucial that the radar can stably search the area designated by the pilot for target detection, even as the aircraft's attitude changes. This paper focuses on stabilizing the search pattern in the air-to-air operational mode of aircraft-mounted radar to ensure stable target detection during roll and pitch maneuvers of the aircraft. The paper demonstrates its performance by simulating aircraft maneuvers and targets in a system integration laboratory (SIL) test environment.

This study addresses the optimal design methodology for switching between active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar operating modes to easily select the necessary information to reduce pilots' cognitive load and physical workload in situations where diverse and complex information is continuously provided. This study presents a procedure for defining a hidden Markov chain model (HMM) for modeling operating mode changes based on time series data on the operating modes of the AESA radar used by pilots while performing mission scenarios with inherent uncertainty. Furthermore, based on a transition probability matrix (TPM) of the HMM, this study presents a mathematical programming model for proposing the optimal structural design of AESA radar operating modes considering the manipulation method of a hands on throttle-and-stick (HOTAS). Fighter pilots select and activate the menu key for an AESA radar operation mode by manipulating the HOTAS's rotary and toggle controllers. Therefore, this study presents an optimization problem to propose the optimal structural design of the menu keys so that the pilot can easily change the menu keys to suit the operational environment.
