  • This study investigates the inherent influence of a DC-link voltage controller on both DC-link voltage control and the compensation performance of a three-phase, four-wire shunt active power filter (APF). A nonlinear variable-parameter DC-link voltage controller is proposed to satisfy both the dynamic characteristic of DC-link voltage control and steady-state compensation performance. Unlike in the conventional fixed-parameter controller, the parameters in the proposed controller vary according to the difference between the actual and the reference DC-link voltages. The design procedures for the nonlinear voltage controller with variable parameters are determined and analyzed so that the proposed voltage controller can be designed accordingly. Representative simulation and experimental results for the three-phase, four-wire, center-spilt shunt APF verify the analysis findings, as well as the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed DC-link voltage controller.

  • In this study, active control magnetic actuator for reducing vibration of rotor system is performed. Identification, modeling, simulation, control system design, and evaluation of active magnetic damper system have been researched. Power amplifier modeling, connected magnetic actuator and augmented by system identification, is included to establish a magnetic damper simulation which provides close performance correspondence to the physical plant. A magnetic actuator, digital controller using DSP(Digital Signal Processor), and bipolar operational power supply/amplifiers are developed to show the effectiveness of reducing rotor vibration. Also the curve fitting procedure to obtain the transfer function of frequency dependent components is developed. Two kinds of test are executed as sliding and oil bearing. Results presented in this paper will provide a well-defined technical parameters in designing magnetic damper system for the proposed rotor.

  • In pursuit of decreasing noise and vibration, the electromagnetic active control mount(ACM) is developed which is corresponding with the tendency of greater fuel efficiency, higher engine power and lower lightweight vehicle. In process of developing the ACM, making patent searches and benchmarking are performed first, and then robust mount design which is reflected on the users' demand through Design For Six Sigma(DFSS) is carried out. The manufactured prototype of ACM is tested in various environmental conditions for the purpose of ensuring the performance quantitatively.

  • In this paper, to overcome local damages of structures, an uncertainty of structural model, installing sensors of structures, and economics of building system, decentralized semi-active magnetorheological(MR) damper using the displacement or velocity transferred to the response of floor installed damper is proposed. Relative magnitude between the control force of dampers and the story shear force is difined as design variables and the performance indices response spectra analysis through nonlinear time history analysis excited by seismic loads is performed according to this design variables. And the performance of this decentralized MR damper is compared with previous centralized LQR control algorithm using 3-stories benchmark building structure excited by El Centro (1940, N.S) in order to evaluate the application of building structures.

  • A case study of an active transmitting patch antenna revealed a characteristic loop locus of DC power versus RF output power as drive frequency was varied, with an operational bandwidth substantially smaller than the impedance bandwidth of the radiator. An approximate simulation technique, based on separation of the output capacitance of the power transistor, yielded easily visualized plots of power dependence on internal load impedance, and a simple interpretation of the experimental results in terms of a near-resonance condition between the output capacitance and output packaging inductance.

  • This paper investigates the performance of an electromagnetic type active control engine mount (ACM) recently developed in the laboratory. The ACM employs the basic structure of the conventional hydraulic engine mount of which upper chamber is connected to a dual magnet electromagnetic actuator. The actuator, that essentially replaces the existing decoupler of the conventional passive hydraulic engine mount, actively controls the upper chamber pressure. Using the linearized ACM model incorporated with the actuator dynamics, we suggest an optimal design of ACM, maximizing the actuator efficiency as well as the vibration isolation efficiency.

  • The composite materials may be exposed to environmental (thermal or hygral or both) condition during their service life. The effect of environmental condition is usually adverse from the point of view of design of composite structures. In the present research study the effect of hygrothermal condition on the design of laminated composite structures is investigated. The active fiber composite (AFC) which may be utilized as actuator or sensor is considered in the present analysis. The sensor layer is used to sense the level of response of the composite structures. The sensed voltage is fed back to the actuator through the controller. In this study both displacement and velocity feedback controllers are employed to reduce the response of the composite laminate within acceptable limit. The Newmark direct time integration scheme is employed along with modal superposition method to improve the computational efficiency. It is observed from the numerical study that the laminated composite structures become weak in the presence of hygrothermal load. The response of the structure can be brought to the acceptable level once the AFC layer is activated through the feedback loop.

  • In this paper, we design a Linear Quadratic Gaussian(LQG) controller for active suspensions. We can improve the inherent suspension problem, trade-off between the ride quality and the suspension travel by selecting appropriate weights in the LQ-objective function. Using an optimization-algorithm, Evolution Strategy(ES), we find the proper control gains for selected frequencies, which have major effects on the vibrations of the vehicle's state variables. The frequencies and proper control gains are used for the neural network data. During a vehicle running, the trained on-line neural network is activated and provides the proper gains for non-trained frequencies.

  • In this paper, we design a Linear Quadratic Gaussian controller for the active suspension. We can improve the inherent suspension problem, trade-off between the ride quality and the suspension travel by selecting appropriate weights in the LQ-objective function. Because any definite rules for selecting weights do not exist, we use an optimization-algorithm, Evolution Strategy (ES) to find the proper control gains for selected frequencies, which have major effects on the vibrations of the vehicle's state variables. The frequencies and proper control gains are used for the neural network data. During a vehicle running, the trained on-line neural network is activated and provides the proper gains for non-trained frequencies. For the full-state feedback control, Kalman filter observes the full states and Fourier transform is used to detect the frequency of the road.
