  • In a case of multiple posterior teeth loss, antagonistic teeth extrude to the edentulous space and compensatory occlusion on the remained anterior teeth leads to occlusal trauma. Extrusion of antagonistic teeth breaks down occlusion plane and loss of posterior support bring about severe wear of remained teeth. In this situation, it is needed to restore remained teeth and edentulous space by increasing vertical dimension to obtain prosthodontic rehabilitation space and to correct occlusion plane. In this case report, the patient had a masticatory problem with loss of posterior teeth support and an esthetic problem of shortened anterior teeth. Before the tooth preparation for the prosthodontic restoration, the patient used removable device for 2 months to increase vertical dimension reversibly. After that, he got provisional fixed restoration with irreversible tooth reduction and used it for 3 months. It had spent 5 month to evaluate the adaptation state on final restoration with incresed vertical dimension. The increasing amount was 3 mm, which was relatively in less degree and masticatory system adapted to the increased vertical dimension without any pathologic changes. Final restoration was made to have equal-intensity contacts on all teeth in a verifiable centric relations and immediate disclusion of all posterior contacts the moment the mandible moves in any direction from centric relation. In addition, metal occlusion surface on posterior teeth was applied to prevent excessive muscle activation, occlusal trauma and the porcelain fracture.

  • This paper proposes "A Smart Farm Environment Optimization and Yield Prediction Platform based on IoT and Deep Learning" which gathers bio-sensor data from farms, diagnoses the diseases of growing crops, and predicts the year's harvest. The platform collects all the information currently available such as weather and soil microbes, optimizes the farm environment so that the crops can grow well, diagnoses the crop's diseases by using the leaves of the crops being grown on the farm, and predicts this year's harvest by using all the information on the farm. The result shows that the average accuracy of the AEOM is about 15% higher than that of the RF and about 8% higher than the GBD. Although data increases, the accuracy is reduced less than that of the RF or GBD. The linear regression shows that the slope of accuracy is -3.641E-4 for the ReLU, -4.0710E-4 for the Sigmoid, and -7.4534E-4 for the step function. Therefore, as the amount of test data increases, the ReLU is more accurate than the other two activation functions. This paper is a platform for managing the entire farm and, if introduced to actual farms, will greatly contribute to the development of smart farms in Korea.

  • Objectives : The fruit of Prunus mume Siebold & Zucc. has been used as an alternative medicine and functional food in Korea and Japan for preventive and therapeutic purposes. However, its molecular actions and mechanism on anti-inflammatory activity have not been clearly investigated. The aim of this study was to clarify the anti-inflammatory activity of the ethanol extract of P. mume fruit (EEPM) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, and sought to understand the associated molecular mechanisms. Methods : Cytotoxicity was assessed by an MTT assay. The amount of nitric oxide (NO) production was determined by nitrite assay. The mRNA expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) was analyzed by RT-PCR. In addition, expression levels of iNOS, nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) protein were detected by Western blotting. Results : Our data indicated that EEPM inhibited NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells in a concentration-dependent manner. At the mRNA and protein levels, EEPM suppressed LPS-induced iNOS expression. On the other hand, EEPM markedly enhanced HO-1 expression, which was associated with an induction and nuclear translocation of Nrf2. Moreover, the inhibitory effect of EEPM against LPS‑induced NO production was significantly enhanced by hemin, a HO-1 inducer; however, EEPM's effect on the production of NO was abolished by zinc protoporphyrin IX, a HO-1 inhibitor. Conclusion : The results suggest that EEPM can act as a suppressor agent on NO production through an activation of Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway, and may be a promising candidate for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.

  • The composite anodes of exfoliated graphite (EG) and multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) were fabricated by using the binders with different content of epoxy in Nafion solution. The influence of the epoxy content in the anode binder on the performance of microbial fuel cell (MFC) was examined in a batch reactor. With the increase in the epoxy content in the anode binder, increase in physical binding force was observed, but at the same time an increase in the internal resistance of MFC was also observed. This was due to the increase in activation and ohmic resistance. For the anode binder without epoxy, the maximum power density was $1,892mW/m^2$, but a decrease in maximum power density was observed with the increase in the epoxy content in the anode binder. With the epoxy content of 50% in the anode binder, a decrease in the maximum power density to $1,425mW/m^2$ was observed, which about 75.3% of the anode binder without epoxy is. However, the material consisting of the same amount of epoxy and Nafion solution is a good alternative for anode binder in terms of durability and economics of MFC.

  • Evidence for the existance of at least two subclasses of renal adenosine receptors has been presented. N-6-cyclohexyladenosine (CHA) is a relatively selective $A_1$ adenosine agonists, whereas 5'-N-ethylcarboxamidoadenosine (NECA) acts as a preferential agonist of $A_2$ adenoisne receptor. N6-(L-2-phenylisoproryl)-adenosine (PIA) almost unselectively activates both $A_1\;and\;A_2$ adenosine receptors at micromolar concentrations. During the characterization of adenosine receptor in the kidney, we have discovered a novel phenomenon, that is, an intramuscular administration of CHA for 3 days caused a diuresis and a suppression of urinary concentrating ability. To further characterize this novel phenomenon, an intramuscular administration of adenosine and other adenosine angonists, PIA and NECA, and prior treatment of adenosine antagonists, caffeine, theophylline and 1,3-diethyl-8-phenyl-xanthine (DPX) were performed. Systemic administration of CHA, PIA, and NECA for 3 days caused a suppression in heart rate, blood pressure and general motor activity without change in rectal temperature. Systemic administration of CHA, 0.5, 1 and 2 mg/kg/day, for 3 days caused a dose-dependent increase in urine volume and decrease in urinary osmolarity and free water reabsorption. This phenomenon was reversible and repeatable. Administration of adenosine (40 mg/kg/day) produced no apparent effect on the renal function, whereas PIA (2 mg/kg/day) produced an similar effect to CHA on the renal function. Systemic adminstration of NECA, 0.025, 0.05 and 0.25 mg/kg/day, for 3 days caused a dose-dependent increase in urine volume and dose-dependent increases in excreted amount of creatinine, urinary osmolarity and free water reabsorption. These renal effects of adenosine agonist were maximum at second day during the drug administration. In terms of increase in urine volume and the suppression of urinary concentrating ability, NECA was potent than CHA. Prior treatment of caffeine (50 mg/kg/day) or theophylline (50 mg/kg/day) abolished the diuretic effect of CHA, whereas DPX (50 mg/kg/day) did not affect the CHA effect. CHA, 0.5 mg/kg/day, produced no change in plasma renin activity and plasma levels of aldosterone, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. These results suggest that this novel phenomenon produced by an activation of renal adenosine receptors plays an important role in urinary concentrating mechanism.

  • Ascorbic acid (AA) is a multifunctional metabolite in plants that is essential for plant development and growth. We examined the effect of AA, an antioxidant, on the gravitropic response of primary roots in maize. The application of $10^{-3}$ M AA to the elongation zone did not affect the gravitropic response and slightly inhibited the root growth. However, treatment with both $10^{-5}$ M and $10^{-3}$ M AA at the root tip increased the gravitropic response and inhibited root growth. Differences in indole-3- acetic acid (IAA) activity between the upper and lower hemispheres of the root resulted in differential elongation along the horizontal root. Roots are extremely sensitive to IAA, and increasing the amount of IAA in the lower hemisphere of the root inhibited elongation. Therefore, we examined the effect of IAA in the presence of AA. The inhibitory effect of AA on the gravitropic response was greater in combination with IAA. To understand the role of AA in the regulation of root growth and the gravitropic response, we measured ethylene production in the presence of AA in the primary roots of maize. AA stimulated ethylene production via the activation of the 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) oxidase gene, which regulates the conversion of ACC to ethylene. These results suggest that AA alters the gravitropic response of maize roots through modification of the action of ethylene.

  • This study investigated the processing characteristics of soybean (HaePum) sprouts based on temperature (5, 15 and room temperature), period (0, 6 and 12 mon) and relative humidity (20, 40, 60, and 80%) during storage. The initial germination rate of soybean sprouts was 76.02±6.32%, which significantly reduced to 57.18±8.51%, and 0% as the storage temperature of soybean increased for a period of 12 mon. The germination rate of soybean sprouts with 30 ℃ and 80% RH decreased after 4 mon of storage to 4.94%. The yellowness of cotyledon of soybean sprouts was not significantly changed during the 12 mon period of storage at 5 ℃, whereas, soybean sprouts stored at 15 ℃ and room temperature demonstrated decreased yellowness. However, the stress of cotyledon decreased with an increase in both storage temperature and time, and the hardness of hypocotyl decreased with an increase of storage time. The stress of cotyledon affected by high temperature (30 ℃) and humidity (80%) during 4 mon was reduced to 44.39±9.38 g/㎟. The asparagine content of soybean sprouts showed a similar result with the germination rate due to the amount of hypocotyl. Therefore, lower temperatures and shorter storage times are suitable for soybean sprout processing. The first order kinetic model and Arrhenius equation (activation energy =29.56 kJ/mol) were able to predict the yield of sprout at various storage temperatures and periods.

  • $LaFeO_3$-based thick films with 2wt.%, 5wt.% and 10wt.% $Al_2O_3$ additives were fabricated by screen printing method on $Al_2O_3$ substrates. Structural, electrical and ammonia gas sensing characteristics of the thick films with different heat treatment temperatures were examined. From XRD results, the compound of $LaFeO_3$ and $Al_2O_3$ was not found until the heat treatment at $1200^{\circ}C$. SEM microphotograph showed similar grain growth despite the amount of $Al_2O_3$ additives with the heat treatment. Thick films with high activation energy and low resistance in the electrical properties showed high sensitivity for gases. Thick films with 2wt % $Al_2O_3$ additives heat-treated at $1200^{\circ}C$ showed the sensitivities of 210% for 100 ppm $NH_3$ gas at the working temperature of $350^{\circ}C$. The thick films showed food selectivity to $NH_3$ gas.
