We have synthesized new aromatic polyesters (DiPEG-HQ and DiPEG-BP) by condensation polymerization of a terephthalic acid derivative bearing a pendant oligo(oxyethylene) (DP = 7, MW = 350), which has a methoxy terminal group, and two different aromatic diols, hydroquinone and 4,4'-biphenoI. The synthesized polymers were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarizing microscopy, and X-ray diffractometry for their liquid crystallinity (LC), thermal transitions, and structural morphologies in mesophases. The morphology of the LC phases depends strongly on the length of the rigid backbone repeating unit. The DiPEG-BP polymer having a longer repeating unit exhibits both layered and nematic structures before isotropization, whereas the DiPEG-HQ polymer having a shorter repeating unit shows only the layered structure in the mesophase. We found that the layer spacing for DiPEG-HQ is larger than that for DiPEG-BP. Both polymers easily form complexes with LiCF$_3$SO$_3$; we studied this complex formation by FT-IR spectroscopy. The layer spacing of the polymer-electrolyte composites increases upon increasing the amount of the lithium salt. The polymer/salt electrolyte mixtures we investigated at molar ratios of EO:salt in the range of 5-20 exhibit electrical conductivity values at 40$^{\circ}C$ of 2.4${\times}$10$\^$5/ and 1.1${\times}$10$\^$-5/ S/cm for DiPEG-HQ/LiCF$_3$SO$_3$ and DiPEG-BP/LiCF$_3$SO$_3$, respectively. At 80 $^{\circ}C$, these values are higher: 4.6${\times}$10$\^$-3/ and 1.1${\times}$10$\^$-4/ S/cm, respectively. The activation energy of conductivity depends strongly on the salt concentration.
Naringinase from Atpergillus nidulans was immobillized on DEAE-Sephadex A-25 and its characteristics were studied. The optimal conditions for the preparation of the immobilized enzyme were as follow; optimal pH, incubation time and the suitable amount of enzyme were 6.0, 30 min. and 110 units per gram of the dried ion exchage resin, respectively. The optimal pH of the immobilized enzyme was higher than that of the native enzyme. The optimal temperature increased from 4$0^{\circ}C$ to 5$0^{\circ}C$. The heat and pH stability of the immobillized enzyme were better than those of the native enzyme. No significant difference in the Michaelis constant was detected. Activation energy of the immobilized enzyme was 7.96 Kcal/mole, and the apparent Michaelis rate equation was used to describe the action of this material. The degree of hydrolysis was dependant on the flow rate at low rate of perfusion through the column. As the flow rate increased, the value of the apparent Km decreased.
To investigate industrial fatigue and low back pain, the questionaire survey for subjective symptoms of fatigue and low back pain was carried out among 591 male workers aged 20-55 employed in an automobile industry in Korea. Workers participated to this study were divided into low back pain group(LBP) and control group, according to the self-reports by written questionaires. The subjective sysptoms of fatigue comprised three groups of 10 items each, representing dullness and sleepiness(level of cerebral activation), difficulty in concentration(level of motivation) and bodily projection of fatigue. The resultant data were processed for $\chi^2-test$, t-test and a pearson's correlation coefficient to confirm the relationships. The results were as follows: 1. 30 items of fatigue subjective symptoms exeptone item, 'lack in perseverance', were directly associated with low back pain. 2. The percentage of fatigue complaint were sig nificantly higher in LBP group. 3. Of the 30 items of fatigue subjective symptoms, the highest percentage was accounted for 'eye strain'(27.9%), followed by 'whole body feels tired' and 'legs feel heavy'(22.9%), 'feel like lying'(21.4%), 'feel a pain in the low back'(18.7%), 'feel drowsy'(16.4%) and 'feel stiffness in the neck or the shoulders'(16.2%) in the order of sequence. 4. The average weighted score for the first group of fatigue items(dullness and sleepiness) was the largest among three groups and was followed by the second group(difficulty in concentration) and the third group(bodily projection of fatigue) in the order of sequence, suggesting the heavier shift work stress of the workers. 5. In the groups of the aged 30-40, work duration of 5-7yrs, heavy work amount and irregular work speed, significant high fatigue complaints were revealed in terms of eye strain, whole body feels tired, legs feel heavy, feel like lying, feel a pain in the low back and feel stiffness in the neck or the shoulders. 6. A significant negative correlations were shown between age, work duration and eleven subjective symptoms while positive reciprocal correlations were shown between eleven items with one another.
The Arbitration Act of Korea was promulgated in 1966. Since the promulgation of Arbitration Act of Korea, consecutive amendments took place in 1973, 1993, 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2002. Among the various set of amendments, those of 1999 were designed to accommodate the UNCITRAL Model Law on international Commercial Arbitration of 1985. Korea has acceded to special international conventions on dispute settlement such as the New York Convention of 1958 and the Washington Convention of 1965. The Korean Commercial Arbitration Board(KCAB) administers the arbitration proceedings in accordance with its Arbitration Rules approved by the Korean Supreme Court. Since the establishment of the first Arbitration Rules in 1966. consecutive amendments took place in 1973, 1981, 1989, 1993, 1996, 2000 and 2004. The KCAB plans to enact the International Arbitration Rules, which will be available to disputing parties in addition to the KCAB Arbitration Rules. In 2005, arbitration applications received at KCAB recorded a historic high at 213 cases, an increase of 22% from 175 cases in 2000. But in 2005, the total amount involved in the arbitration cases decreases to US$ 129 million, a decline of 63% from US$ 346 million in 2000. The KCAB should take the following measures for activating the commercial arbitration system: the globalization of KCAB, the advertisement of arbitration system, the security of qualified arbitrators, and the enhancement of the secretariat service. In conclusion, the KCAB should make efforts for the development of the arbitration system and for the upgrade of customer satisfaction. Moreover the KCAB should make further efforts to grow into a global arbitration institution as well as strengthening relations with international arbitration institutions.
Uncertainty in large-scale tourism development is the main reason of the delay on the project. The purpose of this study is to identify the status and effect of this large-scale tourism development project. Huge amount of funds has to be invested prior to the development of this project and with high uncertainty of successful development, the procedure is the most important factor of this project. Therefore, under the basis of these assumptions, we operated a PLS regression analysis to see any factors that has influence during the procedure of the project. The result of the PLS regression analysis resulted that among all of the factors, the participation and role of regional community is the highest priority. In order to lead large-scale tourism development to success is to listen to the ideas of various project-related personnels and form a public - private partnership for evaluation of the project.
Naringinase produced from Aspergillus nidulans was immobilized in acrylamide gel by the entrapping method and its characteristics were studied. Optimum acrylamide concentration was 10%, but N.N'-methylene bisacrylamide concentration had no influence on the final enzyme gel activity. The suitable amount of enzyme dissolved in the polymerization reaction mixture was 126 units/ml. Optimum pH of immobilized enzyme was 5.0 which was the same as that of free enzyme. However, immobilized enzyme showed a higher optumum reaction temperature, markedly increased pH and temperature stability. In a packed-column reactor, the observed reaction rate was increased proportionally to flow rate up to 5ml/min., but independent above 6ml/min.. Activation energy of the immobilized enzyme was 13.01 Kcal/mole, and the energy required for the thermal inactivation was 39.4 Kcal/mole. The apparent Km for 100 mesh gel was $7.23{\times}10^{-3}$ mole.
Objectives This study was investigated to find how the orally administrated Moschus, herbal combination with Moschus, and herbal combination improves the rats' memory and rats' liver. These medications are generally known asthe memory improvement. Methods This study used the Sprague Dawley rats. They were divided into two groups - SD rats and orally administrated Saline(Control group). 0.473 mg/kg Moschus(HM-A), 153.9 mg/kg herbal composition without Moschus(HM-B), and 165.95 mg/kg herbal composition with Moschus combined(HM-C) Control, saline were orally administered. Each group was trained in the eight-arm radial maze task at the conditions of before oral administrated, and also right after third, sixth, and eighth by oral administration. Lastly, these animals were killed and were tested for brain tissue and serum AST/ALT level to measure how the medications were effected to the liver function. Results The result of radial eight-arm maze task test, the HM-B and HM-C groups showed significant decrease in mistakes from the fourth day of testing. Whereas, the HM-A group showed increasing in the error rate. HM-A and HM-C group of rats had significantly increased amount of acetylcholinesterase in the CA1 region of hippocampus, compared to the control group. Whereas, HM-B and HM-C group had increased level of ChAT compared to the control group. On the other hand, each experimental group did not show any significant difference to the level of serum AST/ALT and the weight ratio of the liver to the body. Conclusions This study provided evidences that the orally administered memory improvement herbal medication, and Moschus were effective to improve memory.
The objective of this study was to observe the effect of dietary calcium(Ca) level on colonic mucosal levels of cell proliferation, 1, 2-diacylglycerol(DAG), TXB2, PGE2 and phospholipid fatty acid composition which have been known as biomarkers for colon cancer. One hundred male Sprague Dawley rats, at 7 weeks of age, were divided into two fat type groups. Each group of which was further divided into two Ca level groups. Each rt was intramuscularly injected with 1, 2,-dimenthylhydrazine(DMH) for 6 weeks (total dose of 180mg/kg body weight) and simultaneously fed one of four experimental diets containing 15% dietary fat(corn oil or perilla oil )and 0.3% or 1.0% Ca by weight for 20 weeks. Compared to corn oil, perilla oil significantly reduced cell proliferation by decreasing labeling index, proliferating zone, crypt length in colonic mucosa and colonic mucosa and colonic mucosal levels of DAG, TXB2 . PGE2 and phospolipid (PL) arachidonic acid distribution. The effect of Ca on biomarketrs was different depending on the type of dietary fat comsumed . Ca effect of Ca on biomarkers was different depending on the type of dietary fat comsumed. Ca effect was not significantly shown in the PO group, but it was significant in the CO group in which high Ca(1.0%) decreased the levels of levels of PL-C20 : 4(%), DAG and PGE2 . However , high Ca supplementation had shown only the trends of improving cell proliferation. Overall , high dietary Ca significantly reduced cell proliferation by inhibiting the synthesis of eicosanoid and DAG with reduced distribution of PL-C20 : 4 , which may have resulted in lower activation of PKC through reduced signal transduction. Since a high level of dietary Ca was more effective in reducing the risk factor against colon cancer in corn oil fed rats, it could be suggested that a higher amount of dietary Ca be consumed , especially when more vegetable oil rich in linoleic acid is included in the diet.

The first Korean satellite launch vehicle, KSLV-I(Korea Space Launch Vehicle-I), was launched for its first flight test on Aug. 25, 2009 from Naro Space Center located in south Jolla province. Because launch vehicles usually fly long range with large amount of propellants aboard, preparation of countermeasures against potential malfunctions during flight is essential in launch operation. In this paper, the flight safety operation, prepared to guarantee flight safety during launch operation of KSLV-I, is presented. Prior to flight test, flight safety analysis is performed to estimate associated risk levels quantitatively, and during flight, flight safety systems are operated to cope with any risky situations. Real-time flight monitoring including computation of instantaneous impact point using tracking data is executed normally and the flight test is completed without activation of flight termination system.
The relationships between affinity of membranes and optimum operation conditions were investigated in the pervaporation of water(1)/ethanol(2) mixture through cellulose acetate(CA) membranes having more affinity to water and silicone rubber(SR) membranes having more affinity to ethanol. CA and SR membranes were prepared and amount of sorption, sorption selectivity, pervaporation separation factor and pervaporation rate in both of membranes were determined and compared. The effects of downstream pressure were analyzed using Thompson diagram and the sorption and pervaporation characteristics with composition of feed and operation temperature were examined in terms of affinity, activity coefficient, plasticizing effect and activation energy of individual species. In the separation of water through CA membranes, high performance of both pervaporation separation factor (water to ethanol, $[\alpha^2_1]_{PV}$) and pervaporation rate was obtained in the conditions of low downstream pressure, middle range of feed concentration and high temperature. In the separation of ethanol through SR membranes, pervaporation separation factor(ethanol to water, $[\alpha^2_1]_{PV}$) increased with downstream pressure and decreased with concentration of ethanol in feed and operation temperature, while pervaporation rate showed opposite trends to those of ($[\alpha^2_1]_{PV}$).
