만삼(蔓蔘)엑기스가 임파성백혈병 P388에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Extracts from the Codonopsis pilosulae Radix on P388 Lymphocytic Leukemia in vivo)

  • Mansam, the root of Codonopsis pilosula (Campanulaceae) has a action on blood metabolism. It has been known to possess anti leukemic effect by increasing of red blood cell, at same time, by decreasing white blood cell, with this connection, present study is aimed to clarify such potential anti leukenic effect by testing ethanol extract and chloroform extract against murine tumor model, lymphocytic leukemia P388. The data indicated that these extracts appeared to be inactive against this tumor line.

  • We investigate a neural network as a dynamic system controller when system characteristics are abruptly changing. The shape of sigmoid functions are determined by autotuing method for the optimum sigmoid function of the neural networks. By using information stored in the identifying network a novel algorithm that can adapt the control action of the controller has been developed. Robustness can be seen from its ability to adjust large variations of parameters. The potential of the proposed method is demonstrated by simulations.

  • The nervous system consists of two types of cells, which are neurons and glial cells. Among the glial cells, oligodendrodendrocytes and schwann cells form myelin sheaths in the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS), respectively. The major function of myelin in vertebrates is to insulate axonal and help action potential travel faster.(omitted)

  • Images taken from airplanes, satellites and drones have been used in various realms, and the kinds and specifications of images are enlarged gradually. Despite the importance of images on diverse applications, the quality information of the images is controlled by each agency or institute respectively without any principle, or even is neglected, because the application of standards to the final products of image is not easy in Korea. We aim to review necessities and strategies for applying international standards on image and to suggest potential issues and possibilities to make standards in action.

It is a household remedy effective in treating such common ailments as headache, minor muscular pain and fever. Aspirin is the drug choice for rheumatic fever and arthritis which some five million Americans suffer. Lately it has been established by double-blind and randomized clinical studies that regular aspirin intake reduces the incidence of mild strokes and heart attackes.

  • Psychological action is physiological response of outernal stimulus. Physiological response is accompanied b physiological signals which are EEG, EMG, GSR, ECG, BP, and tec. Physiological signals are recently studied for determination of human phychological state. Psychological activity causes electric potential of brain. Physiological signal is considered as measurement of human psychological state. Aditory sensibility which is one of the sense of human may determine differences between positive and negative feeling. EEG and GSR variation with auditory quality of stimulus can be define human negative and positive mental state. This study is to characterize parameters which can determine negative and positive psycholigical state of human.

Recent Advances in Anti-inflammatory Synthetic Flavonoids as Potential Drugs

  • Flavonoids are well-known anti-inflammatory agents that exert their effects via a variety of mechanisms including antioxidative action, inhibition of eicosanoid metabolizing enzymes and regulation of theexpression of proinflammatory molecules. In this review, synthetic approaches to obtain more useful flavonoid derivatives are summarized. Human clinical trials of flavonoid therapy are discussed. Through continual investigation to identify more potent and comparable flavonoids, new anti-inflammatory flavonoid therapy will be successfully launched, especially for the treatment of chronic inflammatory disorders.

  • Advances in nanobiotechnology have presented numerous possibilities of more effective diagnostic and therapeutic options. In particular, gold nanoparticles have demonstrated the potential for application in molecular imaging and treatment of cancers, including drug delivery system of certain target molecules, enhancement of radiation therapy, and photothermal treatment. This review discusses the properties, mechanism of action, and clinical application of gold nanoparticles. Although the safety of nanoparticles is yet to be ascertained, there is no doubt that in the future, nanotechnology will play an important role in the development and enhancement of a wide range of diagnostic and treatment modalities.

Electrostatic Properties of N-Acetyl-Cysteine-Coated Gold Surfaces Interacting with ZrO2 Surfaces

  • The coating N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) on gold surfaces may be used to design the distribution of either gold particle adsorbed to the $ZrO_2$ surface or vice versa by adjusting the electrostatic interactions. In this study, it was performed to find out electrostatic properties of the NAC-coated-gold surface and the $ZrO_2$ surface. The surface forces between the surfaces were measured as a function of the salt concentration and pH value using the AFM. By applying the Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (DLVO) theory to the surface forces, the surface potential and charge density of the surfaces were quantitatively acquired for each salt concentration and each pH value. The dependence of the potential and charge density on the concentration was explained with the law of mass action, and the pH dependence was with the ionizable groups on the surface.
