The purpose of this study was to measure the roughness on the acid -etching surface. The etching agents of three-kinds composite resins were used to etch the tooth surface. Newly extracted I5-anterior teeth were invested with self-curing acrylic resin, and the labial surface was exposed. The exposed labial side was polished with abrasive papers and finally polished on polishing machine with zinc oxide powder. After the teeth were polished, the specimens were washed by water and dried by air. Surface roughness tester, Taylor-Habson's Taly Surf-10, (Fig-1) was used to measure roughness of this unetched tooth surface. And that, the specimens were divided into three groups. The first group was etched with Restodent etchant, the second group was etched with Nuva-system etchant, and Hi-pol etching agent was used in the third group. And the surface roughness tester was used to measure roughness of the etching teeth surface. The results obtained were as follows. 1. The roughness of acid-etched enamel were increased $2{\mu}m$ to $6{\mu}m$. 2. Hi-pol etchant produced the smoothest surface($2.3{\mu}m$). 3. Restodent etchant($3.8{\mu}m$) and Nuva-system etchant($3.7{\mu}m$) produced rougher surface than Hi-pol.
According to repeated measurements and correction procedures, the accuracy of the phase-shifting profilometry was developed. At first, after 20 final models for maxillary complete denture were duplicated , the mucosa sur-faces of models were measured with the phase-shifting proflometry and each mirror view of these was calibrated. Maxillary casts were divided into 4 groups of 5 casts per each, and wax dentures with 2 sheets of baseplate wax and artificial teeth were made and then cured according to the curing method of each group. Group I ; quick curing with QC-20 acrylic resin Group II ; 9 hour curing with QC-20 acrylic resin Group III ; SR-Ivocap system Group IV ; metal base and quick curing with QC-20 acrylic resin. After curing, polishing, and storing at $37^{\circ}C$ in saline for 30 days, the forms of the impression surface of the dentures were measured with the phase-shifting profilometry. Then, the impression surface form of each denture was placed in the optimal position of com-parison with the mirror view of the same final cast. The amount and direction of distortion of each denture was analyzed and the effects of polishing and storage in each denture were compared, The obtained results were as follows : 1. In Group I, the denture was observed as the appearance distorted in the opposite direction of the mucosa and the postero-lateral part of palatal portion of the denture was observed as the appearance separated from the mucosa. Also, the buccal flanges of the denture were observed as the appearance distorted in the direction of the mucosa. 2. In Group II, the postero-lateral part of palatal portion of the denture was observed as the appearance separated slightly from the mucosa. The bilateral buccal flanges of denture were observed as the appearance distorted severely in the direction of the mucosa. 3. In Group III the bilateral part of the residual ridge crest portions and the buccal flanges of the denture were observed as the appearance distorted in the direction of the mucosa, and specially, the buccal flanges of the maxillary tuberosities were distorted severely. 4. In Group IV, the acrylic resin base of the buccal portion of the denture was observed as the appearance distorted in the opposite direction of the mucosa. 5. The phase-shifting profilometry, done with repeated measurements and correction procedures, was effective in comparing the amount and direction of distortion at every position after the laboratory work and the delivery of maxillary complete denture.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate four different composite resins in vitro for microleakage in Class II box type restorations that have gingival margins apical to the cementoenamel junction. Forty caries free extracted human molars were used in this study. The Class II cavities were prepared 1.0mm below cementoenamel junction with a #701 carbide bur. The teeth were randomly divided into four groups, each group comprising 20 treated cavities according to adhesives and filling materials ; Group 1: Scotchbond Multipurpose/Z 100. Group 2: Ariston Liner/Ariston pHc, Group 3: One Step/Pyramid, Group 4: Prime & Bond NT/SureFil. To simulate the clinical situation during restoration placement, a restoration template was fabricated and composite resin was filled using a three sited light-curing incremental technique. The specimens were stored in the 100% humidity for 7 days prior to thermocycling. The specimens were immersed in 2% methylene blue dye solution for 24 hours and then embeded in transparent acrylic resin and sectioned mesiodistally with a diamond wheel saw. The degree of marginal leakage was scored under the stereomicroscope($\times$20) and the data were analyzed by Kruskal Wallis test and Mann Whitney test. (omitted)

Attrition is the loss of tooth hard tissue due to contact between teeth, and in severe cases, dentin is exposed, accompanied by selective corrosion and excessive wear of teeth, which is called cupping. If these lesions are left untreated, the size of the lesion gradually increases, breaking the unsupported enamel, resulting in a decrease in aesthetics and chewing function. In this case report, patients with cupping and enamel fracture due to severe attrition were directly restored using a resin with soft properties containing organic fillers. In the follow-up observation six years later, most of the filling of the occlusal surface was eliminated, but the filling on the buccal surfaces remained relatively intact, and it was confirmed that this type of resin was suitable for the area where the occlusal force was relatively weak rather than the area where the occlusal force was greatly applied.
This is a research for thickness change of denture base according to the shape of sprue & investment position of denture base in flask when injecting polyamid base resin for flexible partial denture as a part of study for Valplast among the flexible partial denture with a nylon base. It has been introduced several kinds of flexible partial denture product with a nylon base, but Valplast is the most widely used product among them. Valplast has been the most generally used material today since developed in 1950s in the United States as a material for flexible partial denture. Valplast is much more aesthetic than general metal-acrylic partial denture due to its translucent pink color and biocompatibility in terms of material characteristic. It keeps its flexibility for a long time after production, imposes a less burden on the teeth used as abutment, and it can be easily insert and remove due to its particular suppleness. Moreover, it is felt like real teeth more than metal-acrylic partial denture when being put in and takes alveolar bone under good protection since it receives occlusal force equally under the denture base. The most outstanding feature of Valplast is flexibility. The extent of its flexibility is determined by width & thickness of denture base. Considering general working procedure of Valplast, it can be seen that the thickness of denture base formed out of wax is increasing by the pressure while injecting resin. This research is to decide and test on the thickness increasing of Valplast by injecting pressure and the hypothesis upon that and is to prepare the basis estimating the increasing extent of thickness of denture base on the basis of the test result. In this test, it is expected occlusal malposition & thickness increasing of denture base by injecting pressure according to 4 kinds of test data which are to select 3 types of sprue method settling the forefront position at which the test material of fixed standard can be invested and to position the test material at the rearmost part keeping the minimum distance to set sprue. For 4 kinds of injecting test by investment position & sprue type, 20 test materials, 5 for each test were produced and a pressure of 1,180Kg was given with automatic injector of air cylinder type. The results are as follows: 1. For the amount of thickness increasing of denture base by investment position, the thickness of front investment is less increasing than the one of rear investment. 2. For the amount of thickness increasing of denture base by sprue type, the thickness of straight decompression sprue type which can absorb the injecting pressure after injecting polyamide base resin is less increasing than the other sprue types.
With modification of the acid etch technique and improvements of the physical and mechanical properties of the acrylic resin, the removal of directly bonded attachments and the finishing of the underlying enamel have become an acute clinical problem. This study was to evaluation the efficacy of recently introduced instrumentation and techniques to remove bonded brackets and residual resin, and restore the affected enamel surface to an acceptable clinical condition. Fortyeight premolar which were scheduled for extraction for orthodontic purposes were bonded with brackets using super-C ortho. Four additional premolars with untreated surfaces were used as controls. After one weak the brackets were removed and the residual resin removed by hand scaler, green stone, green rubber wheel, sandpaper disc, tungsten carbide bur, Sof-lex disc. Half the experimental teeth were given a final pumicing and then all were extracted and stored in 50 percent ethanol. The scanning electron microscopy was used to evaluated the enamel surface. Following results were obtained; 1. A satisfactory result was obtained by means of the Sof-lex disc. 2. The order of the scratch formation was the procedure using hand scaler, green atone, tungsten carbide bur, sandpaper disc, green rubber wheel, and Sof-lex disc. 3. The procedures using green stone and tungsten carbide bur showed many groove formations and the other procedures showed none. 4. final pumicing serves effectively to remove residual adhesive and restore the enamel surface.

Object The purpose of this study were to evaluate the microtensile bond strength of resin fiber reinforced post to radicular dentin using resin cement according to various dentin surface treatment and to observe the inter face between post and root dentin under SEM Material and Method A total 16 extracted human single rooted teeth were used. A lingual access was made using a #245 carbide bur in a high-speed handpiece with copious air water spray. The post space was mechanically enlarged using H-file(up to #60) and Gates Glidden bures(#3). This was followed by refining of the canal space using the calbrating drill set provided in ER Dentinpost(GEBR, BRASSELER GmbH&Co. KG). The 16 teeth were randomly distributed into 4 group of 4 teeth. Group 1 teeth had their post space prepared using 10% phosphoric acid as root canal surface treatment agent during 20s. The canal was then rinsed with saline and dried with paper point. Group 2 teeth had their post space prepared using 3% NaOCl as root canal surface treatment agent during 30min. The canal was then rinsed with saline and dried with paper point. Group 3 teeth had their post space prepared using 17% EDTA as root canal surface treatment agent during 1min. The canal was then rinsed with saline and dried with paper point. Group 4 teeth had their post space prepared using 17% EDTA as root canal surface treatment agent during 1min. After rinsing with saline, the canal was rinced 10m1 of 3% NaOCl for 30min. After drying with paper point, the post(ER Dentinpost, GEBR, BRASSELER GmbH&Co. KG) was placed in the treated canals using resin cement. Once the canal was filled with resin cement(Super bond C&B sunmedical co. Ltd.), a lentulo was inserted to the depth of the canal to ensure proper coating of the root canal wall. After 24 hours, acrylic resin blocks($10{\cdot}10{\cdot}50mm$) were made. The resin block was serially sectioned vertically into stick of $1{\cdot}1mm$. Twenty sticks were prepared from each group. After that, tensile bond strengths for each stick was measured with Microtensile Tester. Failure pattern of the specimen at the interface between post and dentin were observed under SEM. Results 1. Tensile bond strengths(meen{\pm}SD$) ) were expressed with ascending order as follows group 4, $12.52{\pm}6.60$ ; group 1, $7.63{\pm}5.83$ ; group 2, $4.13{\pm}2.31$ ; group 3, $3.31{\pm}1.44$. 2. Tensile bond strengths of Group 4 treated with 17% EDTA +3%NaOCl were significant higher than those of group 1, 2 and 3 (p<0.05). 3. Tensile bond strengths of Group 1 treated with 10% phosphoric acid were significant higher than those of group 2 (p<0.05). Tensile bond strengths of Group 4 treated with 17% EDTA +3% NaOCl was significant higher than those of other groups.
The purpose of this study was to compare the shear bond strength of adhesion bridge by various resin cements. One hundred and foully 1st premolars were used. The teeth were cut below 2mm from CEJ and the coronal portions were used. The coronal portions were embeded with the acrylic resin and trimmed with sic paper until the flat plane with ${\phi}$ 4mm above acrylic resin sticks in height 5mm were casted with nonprecious metal and the using surfaces were treated with sic paper from #200 to #1200 and polished with alminum oxide paste. And then, the using surfaces were sandblasted and treated with the electrochemical etching. The teeth were divided into three groups of fourty two each. In group I, teeth and specimens were cemented with Panavia 21 In group II, teeth and specimens were cemented with Superbond In group I, teeth and specimens were cemented with All-Bond & composite resin cement Each group was subdivided into three subgroups according to the storage period ; one-day storage, fifteen-day storage, and thirty-day storage. The special jig was made. Then, the specimen and jig were mounted to Instron Universal Testing Machine and the failure were measured. The results were as follows. 1. There was statisfically significant difference between the failure loads of group I and group II and III after one day storage(P<0.01), 2. There was statisfically significant difference between the failure loads of group II and group I and III and between group I and group III at fifteen day storage(P<0.01). 3. There was statisfically significant difference between the failure loads of group I and II and group III after thirty day storage(P<0.01). 4. There was statisfically significant difference between the failure loads of one day storage and fifteen and thirty days storages in group III (P<0.01).
The purpose of this study was to observe shear bond strength of composite resin to dentin following surface treatment. Freshly extracted forty-eight sound human molars were used in this study. They were stored at $4^{\circ}C$ physiologic saline solution before experiment. The teeth was then mounted with self curing acrylic resin in brass mold. The buccal surfaces of the teeth were grinding approximately 1.5mm by means of water-irrigated grinding wheel to expose the flattened fresh dentin surfaces. The specimens were divided into 6 groups according to preparation and treatment procedures on dentin surfaces; Group 1: Untreated after preparation with No.301 diamond point Group 2: Treated with primer for 60 seconds after preparation with No.301 diamond point Group 3: Untreated after preparation with No.700 fissure carbide bur Group 4: Treated with primer for 60 seconds after preparation with No.700 fissure carbide bur Group 5: Untreated after grinding with 600 grit silicon carbide paper Group 6: Treated with primer for 60 seconds after grinding with 600 grit silicon carbide paper Light cure dental adhesive was applicated to each specimen. Silux plus(3M) was inserted then into polyethylene tube of 3mm diameter and 3mm height, and polymerized to dentin surface. All of the specimens were stored in distilled water at $35.6^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours prior to testing. The shear bond strength was measured using an Instron Universal Testing Machine. The results obtained from this study were as follows: 1. The shear bond strength to dentin was the highest in group II. 2. The shear bond strength to dentin was the lowest in group III. 3. There was no significant difference in shear bond strength to dentin according to preparation instrument. 4. The primer treatment group showed significantly greater shear bond strength than untreated group.
It was reported that esthetic composite resin restoration reinforces the strength of remaining tooth structure with preserving the natural tooth structure. However, it is unknown how much the strength would be recovered. The purpose of this study was to compare the fracture resistance of three types of undermined cavity filled with composite resin with that of non-cavitated natural tooth. Forty sound upper molars were allocated randomly into four groups of 10 teeth. After flattening occlusal enamel. undermined cavities were prepared in thirty teeth to make three types of specimens with various thickness of occlusal structure (Group $1{\sim}3$). All the cavity have the 5 mm width mesio-distally and 7 mm depth bucco-lingually. Another natural 10 teeth (Group 4) were used as a control group. Teeth in group 1 have remaining occlusal structure about 1 mm thickness, which was composed of mainly enamel and small amount of dentin. In Group 2, remained thickness was about 1.5 mm, including 0.5 mm thickness dentin. In Group 3, thickness was about 2.0 mm, including 1 mm thickness dentin. Every effort was made to keep the remaining dentin thickness about 0.5 mm from the pulp space in cavitated groups. All the thickness was evaluated with radiographic Length Analyzer program. After acid etching with 37% phosphoric acid, one-bottle adhesive (Single $Bond^{TM}$, 3M/ESPE, USA) was applied following the manufacturer's recommendation and cavities were incrementally filled with hybrid composite resin (Filtek $Z-250^{TM}$, 3M/ESPE, USA). Teeth were stored in distilled water for one day at room temperature, after then, they were finished and polished with Sof-Lex system. All specimens were embedded in acrylic resin and static load was applied to the specimens with a 3 mm diameter stainless steel rod in an Universal testing machine and cross-head speed was 1 mm/min. Maximum load in case of fracture was recorded for each specimen. The data were statistically analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and a Tukey test at the 95% confidence level. The results were as follows: 1. Fracture resistance of the undermined cavity filled with composite resin was about 75% of the natural tooth. 2. No significant difference on fracture loads of composite resin restoration was found among the three types of cavitated groups. Within the limits of this study, it can be concluded the fracture resistance of the undermined cavity filled with composite resin was lower than that of natural teeth, however remaining tooth structure may be supported and saved by the reinforcement with adhesive restoration, even of that portion consists of mainly enamel and a little dentin structure.
