  • Acoustical holography is one of the powerful methods in sound radiation problems. Just measuring hologram data on a plane, one can calculate whole space physical quantities such as pressure, particle velocity, and sound intensity. However, the use of finite and discrete operations introduce significant errors inevitably. This paper reviews error reduction schemes, and introduces error analysis criteria derived from modal analysis. Finally the effect of window functions is investigated by these criteria.

  • A close-copy stylization of intonation curve was used for an acoustical analysis of emotional speech. For the analysis, 408 utterances of five emotions (happiness, anger, fear, neutral and sadness) were processed to extract acoustical feature values. The results show that certain pitch point features (pitch point movement time and pitch point distance within a sentence) and sentence level features (pitch range of a final pitch point, pitch range of a sentence and pitch slope of a sentence) are affected by emotions. Pitch point movement time, pitch point distance within a sentence and pitch slope of a sentence show no significant difference between male and female participants. The emotions with high arousal (happiness and anger) are consistently distinguished from the emotion with low arousal (sadness) in terms of these acoustical features. Emotions with higher arousal show steeper pitch slope of a sentence. They have steeper pitch slope at the end of a sentence. They also show wider pitch range of a sentence. The acoustical analysis in this study implies the possibility that the measurement of these acoustical features can be used to cluster and identify emotions of speech.

  • Noise estimating procedures of oil lubricated journal bearings are presented. Nonlinear analysis of rotor-bearing system including unbalance mass of the rotor is performed in order to obtain acoustical properties of the bearing. Acoustical properties of the bearing are investigated through frequency analysis of the pressure fluctuation of the fluid film calculated from the nonlinear analysis. Noise estimating procedures presented in this paper could aid in the evaluation and understanding of acoustical properties of oil lubricated journal bearings.

  • Results of theoretical investigations on acoustical properties of hydrodynamic proceeding bearings are presented. Nonlinear analysis of rotor bearing system including rotor imbalance is performed in order to obtain acoustical properties of hydrodynamic proceeding bearings. Furthermore, a cavitation algorithm, implementing the Jakobsson-Floberg-Olsson boundary condition, is adopted to predict cavitation regions in a fluid film. Acoustical properties of hydrodynamic proceeding bearings are identified through frequency analysis of pressure fluctuation calculated from the nonlinear transient analysis. The results show that the acoustical frequency spectra of hydrodynamic proceeding bearings are pure tone spectra, containing the frequency of the shaft rotation and its super-harmonics. The analysis also shows that the super-harmonics are predominant at neighborhood of the fluid film reformation and rupture regions.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the room acoustical performances of multi-purpose halls, surveying the architectural features and analysing the acoustical characteristics by measurements. In addition, adjectives appropriate for the evaluation of the room acoustical performance in multi-purpose halls were determined through the method of questionnaire survey and subjective evaluation through psycho-acoustic experiment. The results from the experiment were analysed by the correlation analysis and the factor analysis, consequently useful adjectives for the evaluation of acoustical performances in multi-purpose halls were determined depending on the types of performance.

  • The transmission loss coefficient is very important acoustic property in parallel with absorption and acoustic impedance categorizing the acoustical materials, which can control the acoustical problems. At the same time, the transmission loss coefficient is a key parameter to choose the optimum material for the analysis of acoustical characteristics of material using SEA(Statistical Energy Analysis). In this paper, the transmission loss coefficient measurement system using 4-microphone impedance tube is proposed, based on the idea calculating the full transfer matrix of the acoustical sample to test. The theoretical background and measurement system are introduced, and finally the measurement results are verified.
