SRM Drives generate large vibration and acoustic noise because it is rotated by step pulse mmf and switching commutation mechanism. The main vibration source of SRM Drive is generated by rapidly variation of radial force when phase winding current is extinguished for commutation action. So the rapidly variation of radial force is repressed firstly to reduce vibrating force of SRM Drive. This paper suggests the vibration reduction method that SRM Drive with unidirect-short compensation winding is excited by a two stage commutation method at commutation period. This reduction effect of vibration is verified with the result obtained in the test of prototype machine.
The unstable signature that is defined as frequency change with respect to the time or frequency modulation, is caused by the external loading variation in specific machinery component and Doppler shift etc. In this study, we analyze the generation mechanism of the unstable signature and apply the Extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm for its detection. The performance of Extended Kalman Filter is examined for numerical and measured signals and the results show its validity for unstable signature detection.

The Tonpilz transducer is one of the essential elements in active sonar application. The characteristics of transducer depend on the piezoelectric ceramics and mechanical elements such as head mass, tail mass, pre-stress rod and so on. One of the important characteristics is electric and mechanical stability of transducer for long term high power transmitting operation. This parer presents the results about long term endurance tests of the underwater acoustic transducer.
Lateral approximants are well known as having complex articulatory characteristics, which vary cross-linguistically, across speakers, and across utterances. However, less attention has been paid to the articulation of Korean laterals, which do not contrast with a rhotic and may thus exhibit greater-than-normal variability. The focus of this study is to investigate the general articulatory characteristics of the Korean lateral [l] as well as the articulatory variation using novel 3D ultrasound imaging methods. The results of this study revealed significant between-speaker variation and some vowel-dependent variation with regard to the articulation of the Korean lateral [l], which has not been reported previously. Even though all participants in this study showed an anterior occlusion, the place of articulation and the size of the occlusion varied greatly across speakers. The data also revealed that left-right asymmetry is present in the articulation of the Korean lateral. The individual variation of the Korean lateral [l] suggests that it has a large articulatory-acoustic space for variation, since it has no contrasting sound that causes perceptual confusion.
Most of the acoustic microscopes have been constructed acoustic image by simply measuring the amplitude of the reflected signal from the specimen. This method fails to produce images of good quality because the change in amplitude is not sensitive enough to specimen with fine variation. In this paper, we have been constructed the acoustic microscope system which has been able to measure simultaneously the amplitude and phase of the reflected ultrasonic signal. And also we have been constructed the amplitude and phase images for the 500 won coin as a sample and the alumium spacimen with internal round defect, and compared and analyzed these images. In expermental result, the phase image have shown better sensitive than the amplitude image and given better contrast for the micro height variation of specimen. It will be expected that the phase image can be used as an additional bit of information to improve ambiguituities in amplitude image on nondestructive testing for specimen with fine variation.
To investigate the characteristics of internal waves (IWs) and their effects on acoustic wave propagation, a series of sea experiment were performed in the east coast of Donghae city, Korea in 1997 and 1998 where the water depth varies between 130 and 140 m. Thermistor strings were deployed to measure water temperatures simultaneously at 9 depths. CW source signals with the frequencies of 250,670 and 1000 Hz were received by an array of 15 hydrophones. Through the Wavelet transform analysis, the IWs are characterized as having typical periods of 2-17 min and duration of 1-2 hours. The IWs exist in a group of periods rather than in one period. Underwater acoustic signals also show obvious energy peaks in the periods of less than 12 min. Consistency in the periods of the two physical processes implies that acoustic waves react to the IWs through some mechanisms like mode interference and travel time fluctuation. Based on the thermistor string data, mode arriving structures are analyzed. As thermocline depth varies with time, it may cause travel time difference as much as 4-10 ms between mode 1 and 2 over 10 km range. This travel time difference causes interference among modes and thus fluctuation from range-independent stratified ocean structure. In real situations, however, there exist additional spatial variation of IWs. Model simulations with all modes and simple IWs show clear responses of acoustic signals to the IWs, i.e., fluctuations of amplitude and phase.
In this paper, the characteristic response of reflected signals of acoustic reflection microscope, V(z) phenomenon, has been studied and a new type of NDE technique has been presented. 10 Won coin, aluminium, IC component, and kevlar-epoxy samples have been used for the experiment of NDE and the acoustic microscope operating at a center frequency of 3 MHz has been used in the focused or defocused mode of operation. In experiment, it has been shown that the acoustic microscope has the resolution of $500\mu m$ and the defects present on the surface and near surface of samples have been detected by acoustic transducer and imaged on a monitor, and the variation of the contrast of image for samples has been in good agreement with V(z) phenomenon.
Measurements of bubble size and distribution in the surface layer of the sea, wind speed, and variation of ocean environments were made continually over a four-day period in an experiment conducted in the South Sea of Korea during 17-20 September 2007. Theoretical background of bubble population model indicates that bubble population is a function of the depth, range and wind speed and bubble effects on sound speed shows that sound speed varies with frequency. Observational evidence exhibited that the middle size bubble population fit the model very well, however, smaller ones can not follow the model probably due to their short lifetime. Meanwhile, there is also a hysteresis effect of void fraction. Observational evidence also indicates that strong changes in sound speed are produced by the presence of swarms of micro bubbles especially from 7 kHz to 50 kHz, and calculation results are consistent with the measured data in the high frequency band, but inconsistent in the low frequency band. Based on the measurements of the sound speed and high frequency transmission configuration in the bubble layer, we present an estimation of underwater acoustic channel capacity in the bubble layer.

The micro-perforated panel absorber (MPPA) is one of promising noise control elements because of its applicability to extreme environments where general porous materials cannot be used. Since the MPPA is inherently non-porous sound absorber, it can be a good candidate of acoustic protection system of a space launcher. The overall sound pressure level inside payload fairings of commercial launch vehicles is so high (around 140 dB OASPL) that the conventional linear impedance model cannot be directly applied to the design of the acoustic protection systems. In this paper an acoustic impedance models of a micro-perforated panel absorber at high sound pressure environment were reviewed and the use of the impedance on the practical design of MPPAs was addressed. The variation of absorption characteristics of MPPA was discussed according to the design parameters, e.g., perforation ratio, the minute hole diameter, the thickness of MPP and the incident sound pressure level.
