  • The current study exploresacoustic variation induced by prosodic contexts in different speech styles, with a focus on motherese or child-directed speech (CDS). The patterns of variation in the acoustic expression of voicing contrast in English stops, and the role of prosodic factors in governing such variation are investigated in CDS. Prosody-induced acoustic strengthening reported from adult-directed speech (ADS)is examined in the speech data directed to infants at the one-word stage. The target consonants are collected from Utterance-initial and -medial positions, with or without focal accent. Overall, CDS shows that the prosodic prominence of constituents under focal accent conditions variesin the acoustic correlates of the stop laryngeal contrasts. The initial position is not found with enhanced acoustic values in the current study, which is similar to the finding from ADS (Choi, 2006 Cole et al, 2007). Individualized statistical results, however, indicate that the effect of accent on acoustic measures is not very robust, compared to the effect of accent in ADS. Enhanced distinctiveness under focal accent is observed from the limited subjects' acoustic measures in CDS. The results indicate dissimilar strategies to mark prosodic structures in different speech styles as well as the consistent prosodic effect across speech styles. The stylistic variation is discussed in relation to the listener under linguistic development in CDS.

  • In the present paper, the phenomena of abnormal noise and vibration due to acoustic resonance of CFBC(Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion) boiler was presented. The acoustic resonance which occurred in the gas path of CFBC boiler system was caused by coincidence of vortex shedding frequency of tube bank and acoustic natural frequency of duct and hopper. And, the phenomena of beating arose from the interference of two closed resonant waves at 66.4Hz and 70.8Hz. There are two control methods for acoustic resonance in this system. The first method is to change the vortex shedding frequency from the structural alterations on the tube bank. And the second method is to change the acoustic natural frequency of the gas path with the installation of anti-noise baffles. The second one which is relatively easy to apply, was adapted in this study. As a result, the noise and vibration level have been decreased by 41dB and 94% at 66.4Hz, respectively. And the improvement of noise and vibration at 70.8Hz was identified by sensory evaluation.

  • The Passive acoustic control is used in various fields, such as structures, automobiles, aircraft and so on. It is used in variety of acoustic field with the absorbing material, as one of the methods which can control the acoustic in optional space. In that case of passive control using this absorption material, it would be important to maximize the control performance of material property, numbers, geometry shape and the attached location of boundary area of the absorbing material. But realistically these variables, specially material Property, have no broad choice. Therefore, the position of absorbing material is the most important variable. In this study, we use the optimization method to minimize acoustic energy of optional space in the interest frequency attaching some absorbing materials to the boundary area. For analysis and optimization, this study uses the FEA and the conjugate gradient method. This optimization process is very efficient and useful in the passive acoustic control.

  • Knowledge of acoustic transmission loss of acoustic window material has a great Importance for the sonar performance in ship. The purpose of This study was to investigate the measurement and analysis method for me acoustic transmission loss of the acoustic window materials for sonar dome. The measurement and analysis were carried out in water with GRP material. Transmission losses were calculated based on integrated direct and transmitted signals. The experimental setup enabled to vary the angle of incidence. Thus the transmission loss data could be expressed as the function of frequency and angle of rotation. In this paper, diffraction effect of incident angle, size of specimen with test material, transmission analysis method and multiple waves as incident acoustic signal wet-e discussed

  • The thermo-acoustic instability in the combustion process of a gas turbine is caused by the interaction of the heat release mechanism and the pressure perturbation. These acoustic vibrations cause fatigue failure of the combustor and decrease the combustion efficiency. This study is to develop a segmented dynamic thermo-acoustic model to understand combustion instability of gas turbine. Therefore, this study required a dynamic analysis rather than static analysis, and developed a segmented model that can analyze the performance of the system over time using the Matlab/Simulink. The developed model can confirm the thermo-acoustic combustion instability and exhaust gas concentration in the combustion chamber according to the equivalent ratio change, and confirm the thermo-acoustic combustion instability for the inlet temperature and the load changes. As a result, segmented dynamic thermo-acoustic model has been developed to analyze combustion instability under the operating condition.

  • The purpose of the present study is to establish structural noise analyzing method for apartments building floor with structural-acoustic coupling analysis modeling. Noise through floor in the room is recognized as a significant problem with the consequence that noise isolation technique has been studied in the various fields of industry. From among noise factors, resonance sound is the main reason for solid noise of the floor, which is occurred by mechanical vibrations of the acoustic boundary line and the change of velocity. To analyse this phenomenon, numerical computation methods are provided in many fields, In this study, evaluation method for slab is established using finite element method, and a case study for analyzing acoustic phenomenon was suggested. The results show that numerical method, especially F.E.M, has a good approximation to predict noise at floors.

  • The experimental and analytical study was conducted to determine the noise transmission characteristics of acoustically loaded steel plate of rectangular enclosure and to investigate the sound radiation characteristics through out the enclosure. The vibrations of acoustically loaded plate give rise to sound radiations and generate the reverberant space that the sound field exists very close to a vibrating plate. Acoustic transmission loss is measured from the incident intensity into the plate and the transmitted intensity through out the plate. Sound radiation patterns are measured from both acoustic intensity technique and surface intensity technique. Those resultant patterns and vibrational modes are vital in understanding the relations between vibration and noise in the near field out of vibrating plate.

  • Reignition as special cases of acoustic pressure responses of flame are numerically studied by employing methanol droplet flame as a laminar flamelet. Quasi-steady flame responses occur in the range of small amplitude, low frequency oscillation. Reignition phenomena can occur when, by increasing the frequency of large amplitude acoustic pressure, the magnitude of characteristic acoustic time is the same order of that of characteristic reaction time of flames. And more increasing of amplitude of acoustic pressure induces the direct extinction of flame. Flame can sustain its own intensity even under the steady extinction temperature in case of high frequency acoustic oscillation, and this tendency is remarkable with increasing frequency. Reignition regime with respect to amplitude and frequency of acoustic pressure doesn't exist in low frequency($10^2$ Hz, in this study), but broadens with frequency of acoustic pressure.

  • The Present Study reported on the experimental and numerical results of heat transfer in the acoustic fields induced by ultrasonic waves. The strong upwards flow called as acoustic streaming was visualized by a particle image velocimetry (P.I.V). in addition, the augmentation of heat transfer was experimentally investigated in the presence of acoustic streaming and was compared with the profiles of acoustic pressure calculated by the numerical analysis. Experimental and numerical studies clearly show that acoustic pressure variations are closely related to the augmentation of heat transfer.

  • In this study, the validity of the acoustic impedance model and the estimation model by electro-acoustic analogy suggested by Maa for predicting the absorptive performance of multiple layer perforated plate systems is investigated. From the comparison between the experiment and calculation for the absorption performance of double layer perforated plate system, the calculated results of using Rao and Munjal's impedance model and transfer matrix method are closer to the experimental values than those of using Maa's impedance model and electro-acoustic analogy. Therefore, in order to apply the acoustic impedance model and the estimation model by electro-acoustic analogy suggested by Maa to the multiple layer perforated plate systems, it is necessary that the suggested acoustic impedance and estimation models should be re-examined.
