In the study, energy flow analysis is performed to predict the performance of silencers. To date, deterministic approaches such as finite element method have been widely used for silencer analysis. However, they have limitations in analyzing large structures and mid-high frequency ranges due to unreasonable computational costs and errors. However, silencers used for ships and off-shore plants are much larger than those used in other engineering fields. Hence, energy governing equation, which is significantly efficient for systems with high modal density, is solved for silencers in ships and off-shore plants. The silencer is divided into two different acoustic media, air and absorption materials. The discontinuity of energy density at interfaces is solved via hypersingular integrals for the 3-D modified Helmholtz equation to analyze multi-domain problems with the energy flow boundary element method. The method is verified by comparing the measurements and analysis results for ship silencers over mid-high frequency ranges. The comparisons confirm good agreement between the measurement and analysis results. We confirm that the applied analysis method is useful for large silencers in mid-high frequency ranges. With the proven procedures, energy flow analysis can be performed for various types of silencer used in ships and off-shore plants in the first stage of the design.

Due to difficulties of continuous electric power provision to underwater communication nodes, the efficient power usage is highly required in underwater network protocol. In this paper, we studied the energy efficient MAC(Medium Access Control) protocol for underwater network supporting mobile nodes such as UUV(Unmanned Underwater Vehicle) and AUV(Autonomous Underwater Vehicle). The mobile nodes could waste the electric power in vain when the receiver moves out of the radio propagation coverage during the data exchange and thus the transmitted data fails in reaching the receiver. Expecially, such a failure is much more obvious in underwater acoustic channels since the propagation delay is about $10^5$ times slower than in terrestrial radio channels. This proposed mobility-MAC controls the data dropping stochastically in the Dropping Zone by considering the receiver's location and moving velocity. In conclusion, this selective dropping method not only improves latency and throughput by reducing invalid droppings but also boosts power efficiency by valid droppings.

Experimental investigations were carried out in an atmospheric pressure, optically accessible and laboratory-scale dump combustor. The objective of this study is to obtain the phase-resolved gas temperatures at different phases of the oscillating pressure cycle during unstable combustion. To see the effect of incomplete fuel-air mixing on phase-resolved temperature characteristics, CARS temperature measurements were performed. Results including phase-resolved averaged temperature, normalized standard deviation and temperature probability distribution functions (PDFs) were provided in this paper. It could be found that the profile of mean temperature showed the in-phase relationship with pressure cycle. Temperature PDFs give an insight on the flame behavior as well as NOx emission characteristics. These results would be expected to play an important role in better understanding of driving mechanisms and thermo-acoustic interactions.
Flight vehicles such as wheel wells and bomb bays have many cavities. The flow around a cavity is characterized as an unsteady flow because of the formation and dissipation of vortices brought about by the interaction between the free stream shear layer and the internal flow of the cavity. The resonance phenomena can damage the structures around the cavity and negatively affect the aerodynamic performance and stability of the vehicle. In this study, a numerical analysis was performed for the cavity flows using the unsteady compressible three-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equation with Wilcox's turbulence model. The Message Passing Interface (MPI) parallelized code was used for the calculations by PC-cluster. The cavity has aspect ratios (L/D) of 2.5 ~ 7.5 with width ratios (W/D) of 2 ~ 4. The Mach and Reynolds numbers are 0.4 ~ 0.6 and $1.6{\times}106$, respectively. The occurrence of oscillation is observed in the "shear layer and transient mode" with a feedback mechanism. Based on the Sound Pressure Level (SPL) analysis of the pressure variation at the cavity trailing edge, the dominant frequencies are analyzed and compared with the results of Rossiter's formula. The dominant frequencies are very similar to the result of Rossiter's formula and other experimental data in the low aspect ratio cavity (L/D = ~ 4.5). In the large aspect ratio cavity, however, there are other low dominant frequencies due to the leading edge shear layer with the dominant frequencies of the feedback mechanism. The characteristics of the acoustic wave propagation are analyzed using the Correlation of Pressure Distribution (CPD).

Background and Objectives: Benign vocal fold lesions have shown various voice onset types on phonation, however, they have not been documented yet. We studied to know the relationships between benign vocal fold lesions and voice onset types. Materials and Method: 114 subjects were evaluated by using videokymographic examinations. The subjects were classified into three types: normal, contact, and open types according to the patterns of voice onset types on phonation. Benign vocal fold lesions were investigated and voice onset types were compared between normal and disease groups. Voice parameters were obtained from and compared in all subjects to assess acoustic and aerodynamic factors. Results: The normal type among onset types were more than contact type or open type in both normal and disease groups. Disease group showed many contact and open types when. compared with normal group. Vocal nodule and vocal polyp were showed many normal and contact types, however, sulcus vocalis was almost showed open type among voice onset groups. The values of mean flow rate (MFR) of contact type were significantly higher compared to normal type in disease group (p<0.05). Shimmer of contact type was higher than normal type in diseasegroup, but the difference was not significant (p=0.057). Conclusion: Benign vocal fold lesions were related to the various types of voice onset. The various types of voice onset should be considered when benign vocal fold lesions were examined.

Two typical impact loadings, shock wave and gas bubble pulse, due to UNDEX(UNDerwater EXplosion), should be considered together for the closest response analysis of structure subjected to UNDEX to a reality. Since these two impact loadings have different response time bands, however, their response characteristics of structure are different from each other. It is impossible to consider these effectively under the current computational environment and the mathematical model has not yet been developed. Whereas Hicks model approximates the fluid-structure interaction due to gas bubble pulse as virtual mass effect, treating the flow by the response of gas bubble after shock wave as incompressible ideal fluid contrary to the compressible flow due to shock wave, Geers-Hunter model could make the closest response analysis of structure under UNDEX to a real one as a mathematical model considering the fluid-structure interaction due to shock wave and gas bubble pulse together using acoustic wave theory and DAA(Doubly Asymptotic Approximation). In this study, the application and effectiveness of integrated dynamic response analysis of submerged structure was examined with the analysis of the shock wave and gas bubble pulse together.

In the most of speaker recognition system, speaker's characteristics is extracted from acoustic parameter by speech analysis and we make speaker's reference pattern. Parameters used in speaker recognition system are desirable expressing speaker's characteristics fully and being a few difference whenever it is spoken. Therefore we su99est following to solve this problem. This paper is proposed to use strong spectrum characteristic in non-noise circumstance and prosodic information in noise circumstance. In a stage of making code book, we make the number of data we need to combine spectrum characteristic and Prosodic information. We decide acceptance or rejection comparing test pattern and each model distance. As a result, we obtained more improved recognition rate than we use spectrum and prosodic information especially we obtained stational recognition rate in noise circumstance.

The Loose Part Monitoring System(LPMS) has been designed to detect, locate and evaluate detached or loosened parts and foreign objects in the reactor coolant system. In this paper, at first, we presents an application of the back propagation neural network. At the preprocessing step, the moving window average filter is adopted to reject the low frequency background noise components. And then, extracting the acoustic signature such as Starting point of impact signal, Rising time, Half period, and Global time, they are used as the inputs to neural network. Secondly, we applied the neural network algorithm to LPMS in order to estimate the mass of loose parts. We trained the impact test data of YGN3 using the backpropagation method. The input parameter for training is Rising Time, Half Period, Maximum amplitude. The result showed that the neural network would be applied to LPMS. Also, applying the neural network to the Practical false alarm data during startup and impact test signal at nuclear power Plant, the false alarms are reduced effectively. 1.
During adolescence the mutational period is characterized by the changes in the laryngeal structure, the length of the vocal cords, and a tone of voice. Usually, adolescents at 15 or 16 reach the voice of adults but the mutational period is sometimes delayed. Therefore, studies on the voice of adolescents between 16 ~ 18 right after the mutational period are required. Accordingly, this paper attempted to provide basic data about the normal standard for patients with voice disorders during this period by evaluating the vocal characteristics of males and females between 16 ~ 18 with an objective device bycomparing and analyzing them by sex and age. The study was conducted on a total of 60 subjects composed of each 10 subjects of each age. The vocal analysis was conducted by MPT (Maximum Phonation Time) measurement, sustained vowels and sentence reading. As for /a/ sustained vowels, fundamental frequency, hereinafter referred to as $F_0$, jitter, shimmer, noise-to-harmonic ratio, hereinafter referred to as NHR were measured by using the Multi-dimensional voice program (MDVP) among the Multi-Speech program of Computerized Speech Lab (Kay Elemetrics). The sentence reading, mean $F_0$, maximum $F_0$ and minimum $F_0$ were measured using the Real-Time Pitch (RTP) Model 5121 among the Multi-Speech program of Computerized Speech Lab (Kay Elemetrics). As a result, according to sex, there were statistically significant differences in $F_0$, jitter, shimmer, mean $F_0$, maximum $F_0$, and minimum $F_0$; and according to age, there were statistically significant differences in MPT. In conclusion, the voice of the adolescents between 16 ~ 18 reached the maturity levels of adults but the voice quality which can be considered on the scale of voice disorders showed transition to the voice of an adult during the mutational period.

This study investigated the compressive Young's modulus and the impactinduced damage of CFRP angle-ply laminate under same impact energy condition. The specimens of angle-ply laminate composites [0.deg.$_{6}$/ .theta..deg.$_{10}$/ 0.deg.$_{6}$] with .theta..deg. =30.deg., 45.deg., 60.deg. and 90.deg. were employed, and damaged by steel balls of diameter of 5mm and 10mm propelled by air gun type impact testing machine. The impact damaged zones were observed through a scanning acoustic microscope(SAM), and their cross-sections were observed through a scanning electron microscope(SEM). The compressive Young's moduli before and after impact were measured, and compared with the theoretical values calculated. The results obtained were as follows: (1) The damage areas on the interfacial boundaries showed more severe change on the back side interface than on the impact side interface with increasing ply-angle. (2) The damage areas on the interfacial boundaries became larger with increasing impact velocity or ply-angle. (3) The impact damaged zone showed the delamination on the interfacial boundaries and transverse cracks inside laminas. (4) The impact damaged zone was affected by the impactor size and speed or ply-angle under same impact energy condition. (5) Compressive Young's moduli before and after impact were lower than theoretical value, but showed a similar change according to ply-angle. (6) Compressive Young's moduli after impact were higher than those before impact, but there was no remarkable change in apparent compressive modulus after impact.t.act.
