  • In this paper, ZnO thin films were prepared on p-Si(100) by RF magnetron sputtering. Before the depostion, the substrates were pre-heated to 500, 400, 300, $200^{\circ}C$ or not. During the deposition, the substrates were cooled down naturally or kept and then the films were investigated by XRD(X-ray diffraction) and SEM (scanning micro scope). It is showed the most outstanding result that the film was prepared on the substrate were cooled from $400^{\circ}C$. When the substrate was cooled from a certain temperature during deposition, it could be improve the c-axis orientation and useful for application of SAW(surface acoustic wave) filter and FBAR(film bulk acoustic wave resonator) device.

  • The degradation mechanisms of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) were investigated in different thermal fatigue condition in terms of microstructural analyses. The isothermal and cyclic oxidation tests were conducted to atmospheric plasma sprayed-TBCs on NIMONIC 263 substrates. The delamination occurred by the oxide layer formation at the interface, the Ni/Cr-based oxide was formed after Al-based oxide layer grew up to ${\sim}10{\mu}m$ in the isothermal condition. In the cyclic oxidation with dwell time, the failure occurred earlier (500 hr) than in the isothermal oxidation (900 hr) at same temperature. The thickness of Al-based oxide layer of the delaminated specimen in the cyclic condition was ${\sim}4{\mu}m$ and the interfacial cracks were observed. The acoustic emission method revealed that the cracks generated during the cooling step. It was considered that the specimens were prevented from the formation of the Al-based oxide by cooling treatment, and the degradation mode in the cyclic test was dominantly interfacial cracking by the difference of thermal expansion coefficients of the coating layers.

  • Climate change has led to a significant increase in jellyfish populations globally, causing various problems. For power plants that use nearby seawater for cooling, the intrusion of jellyfish into intake systems can block the flow, leading to reduced output or even shutdowns. This issue is compounded by other small marine organisms like shrimp and salps, making it urgent to develop solutions to prevent their intrusion. This study addressed the problem using the BioSonics DT-X 120 kHz scientific fish finder to conduct preliminary tank experiments. We also deployed underwater acoustic and camera buoys around the intake of nuclear power plant, utilizing a bidirectional communication system between sea and land to collect data. Data collection took place from July 31, 2023 to August 1, 2023. While harmful organisms such as jellyfish and salps were not detected, we successfully gathered acoustic data on small fish measuring backscattering strength (SV). Analysis showed that fish schools were more prominent in the evening than during the day. The highest fish distribution was observed at 3:30 AM on July 31 with an SV of -44.8 dB while the lowest was at 12:30 PM on the same day with an SV of -63.4 dB. Additionally, a solar-powered system was used to enable real-time data acquisition from sea buoys with smooth communication between the land server and the offshore buoy located 1.8 km away. This research developed an acoustic-based monitoring system for detecting harmful organisms around the intake and provided foundational data for preventing marine organism intrusion and planning effective measures.

  • In this study, it has been developed the program for predicting the noise spectrum of axial flow fan. The radiated acoustic pressure is expressed the discrete frequency noise peaks at BPF(Blade passage frequency) and its harmonics by Wu's method and the line spectrum at the broad band by Wright's method. And this paper presents the characteristics of a fan noise due to modify the design parameters. Accordingly, it is obtained the design parameter values for noise reduction of fan.

  • Roles of reactor internals are to support nuclear fuel, provide insertion and withdrawal channels of nuclear fuel control rods, and carry out core cooling. In case of functional loss of the reactor internals, it may lead to severe accidents caused by damage of nuclear fuel assembly and deterioration of reactor vessel due to attack of fallen out parts. The present study is to examine fluid flows in reactor internals subjected to hydrodynamic loads. In this context, an integrated model was developed and applied to two kinds of numerical analyses; one is to analyze periodic loading effect caused by pump pulsation and the other is to analyze random loading effect employing different turbulent models. Acoustic pressure distributions and flow velocity as well as pressure and temperature fields were calculated and compared to establish appropriate analysis techniques.

  • This paper suggests the noise reduction method of the engine cooling fan. It was estimated the fannoise contribution at the engine room and identified the noise source at the rotating fan by sound intensity method, first. And it has been developed the program for predicting the noise spectrum of axial flow fan. The radiated acoustic pressure is expressed the discrete frequency noise peaks at BPF and its harmonics and the line spectrum at the broad band by the noise generation mechanisms. In this paper it is shown that the comparison of the measuted and calculaed noise spectra of fn for the validation of the noise predictiong program. • Axial fans are widely used in household electrical appliances due to their easy usage and high flow rate for cooling capacity. At the same time, the noise generated by these fans causes one of serious problems. In order to calculate the noise of a fan, we develop the software IFD - Intranet Fans Design. With this software we can design, analysis the performance and predict the noise of fan. The prediction model, which allowed the calculation of acoustic pressure at the blade passing frequency and it's higher harmonic frequencies, has been developed by Lowson's equation. To calculate the unsteady resultant force of the blade, time-marching free-wake method is used. The objective of this study is to calculate the effects of number of blades, rotating velocity, and sweep angle on the noise of fan..

However, the noise generated by these fans causes one of serious problems. LG electronics makes the intranet software for design and analysis of fan. Axial, sirocco and centrifugal fan can be designed and analyzed by using the IFD(Intranet Based Fans Design) software. In order to calculate the aeroacoustic noise of a fan, the numerical method, which can calculate the acoustic pressure at the blade passing frequency and its higher harmonic frequencies, has been developed. To calculate the unsteady resultant force of the blade, vortex method is used. This paper shows the overview of the software and validates the accuracy of predicted noise of fan.

  • An air-conditioner has various noise sources such as cooling fan noise, pumping noise, flow noise and impact noise. Among these, impact noise is the most unpleasant source. This is because the noise is produced in indoor unit of air-conditioner. To control the noise source effectively, first we must identify the noise sources. When we identify impact noise source, the measurement have to be carried out simultaneously. So we use beamforming method that requires less measurement points than intensity method and acoustic holography. The objective of this paper is to estimate the location of impact source. This objective can be achieved by using minimum variance cepstrum that is able to detect impulse embedded in noise. In this study, modified beamforming method based on cepstrum domain is proposed. Then this method applied to air-conditioner noise sources which produce impact noise.

  • Charged particle energization is an outstanding problem in space physics. This paper investigates the nonlinear dynamics of Alfve'n-cyclotron waves accompanying particle heating processes and the drift Alfv'en-cyclotron (or EMIC) instability associated with a current disruption event on 29 January 2008 observed with THEMIS satellite by means of a particle-in-cell simulation. The simulation shows that the drift Alfv'en-cyclotron instabilities are excited in two regimes, a relatively low frequency mode propagating in a quasi-perpendicular direction while the second high-frequency branch propagating in a predominantly parallel propagation direction, which is consistent with observation as well as earlier theories. It is shown that parametric decay processes lead to an inverse cascade of Alfv'en-cyclotron waves and the generation of ion-acoustic waves by decay instability. It is also shown that the nonlinear decay processes are accompanied by small perpendicular heating and parallel cooling of the protons, and a pronounced parallel heating of the electrons.
