The single sensor based acoustic reflection control system separates the incident and reflected signals from the single sensor output, and reduces the reflected signal by generating an out-of-phase signal from the incident signal component. In this paper, we propose an optimal filter design method for a single sensor based reflection control system. In the proposed method, it is shown that the optimum control filter design is possible by using the measured impulse responses of the reflection and control paths. The reflection control algorithm based on the proposed optimal filter achieves better performance than the conventional adaptive filter-based algorithm and effectively controls the reflection without the initial convergence time. We performed computer simulations using the signals obtained in a 1-dimensional acoustic duct environment, and from the simulation results, it was confirmed that the proposed optimal filter has robust performance even in noisy environment.
An ultrasonic test method, as a nondestructive test is applied to ensure the clad interface quality assessment. According to the reference codes and standards, not only korea Industrial Standard(KS) but also American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard, ultrasonic examination procedures use the pulse-echo, A-scan, back reflection signal drop method and/or side drilled reference hole used to establish the acceptance criteria of clad material test. But the variety of bonding materials and sizes makes it difficult to produce the reference blocks, or thus the criteria. In order to overcome these practical difficulties, new ultrasonic testing criterion is suggested. In this new method, the theoretical interface reflection signal amplitude level is calculated and suggested as an acceptance criteria with the back reflection signal set to 100% FSH(Full Screen Height) which is based on acoustic impedance mismatch at the clad interface for the explosive clad ultrasonic inspection. Applicability of suggested criterion, for the explosive clad Fe-Naval Brass with different bonding quality is confirmed to the pre-existed KS and ASTM specifications and verified by using SEM (Seanning Electron Microscope) micrograph. The results obtained by the suggested method is more conservative than the results according to the KS B 0234 and ASTM A 578 specifications The suggested method could be applicable to any other combination of explosive clad ultrasonic inspection.
Three kinds of rubber compounds were prepared, and their underwater acoustical properties were investigated for anechoic coating. Dynamic mechanical properties of the rubber compounds were measured using a dynamic mechanical analyzer and extended to 100 kHz using time-temperature superposition. The sound speed, reflection coefficient, and attenuation constant were calculated. Silicone rubber showed the lowest reflection coefficient, and nitrile rubber showed the highest attenuation constant. The acoustic properties of nitrile rubber compounds with various compositions were investigated. The sound speed, reflection coefficient, and transmission coefficient of the nitrile rubber in the frequency range of 200-1000 kHz were measured in a water-filled tank.

In this paper a method for finding solutions of acoustic, vortex and entropy wave equations in a cylindrical tube with variable section area was suggested under the consideration of that the high frequency instability in a rocket engine combustion chamber is an acoustic phenomena, which Is coupled with combustion reaction. and that a combustion chamber and exhaust nozzle are usually shaped cylindrically As a consequence of that some method. which enable the mathematical analysis of the influence of entropy and vortex waves to acoustic wave. was suggested. According to the method reflection coefficients of acoustic wave on a supercritical nozzle was numerically calculated, through which it was presented that entropy or vortex waves can strengthen or weaken the reflection rate of acoustic wave.

In this study. the acoustic power balancing method to analysis HVAC system noise is presented. The method can consider not only forward but also backward propagations of noise generated by the operation of air supply units and aerodynamical disturbance at duct elements. This can be done by estimating sound transmission and reflection properties of duct elements. and balancing acoustic powers of total HVAC system. To verify the accuracy of the presented method. numerical analysis for a HVAC system is carried out and the results are compared with those obtained by a traditional empirical method. suggested by National Environmental Balancing Bureau.

A linearized model for hysteretic acoustic nonlinearity of imperfectly joined interface is proposed and analyzed by using Coulomb damping to investigate the characteristics of the reflection and transmission coefficients for harmonic waves at the contact interface. Closed crack is modeled as non welded interface that has nonlinear discontinuity condition in displacement across its boundary. Based on the hysteretic contact stiffness of the contact interface, the reflected and transmitted waves are determined by deriving the tractions on both sides of the interface in terms of the discontinuous displacements across the interface. It is found that the amplitudes of the reflected and transmitted waves are dependent on the frequency and the hysteretic stiffness. As the frequency of the incident wave increases, the higher reflection and lower transmission are obtained. It also shows that the hysteresis of the interface increases the reflection coefficient, but reduces the transmission coefficient. A fatigue crack is also made in aluminum specimen to demonstrate these characteristics of the reflection and transmission of contact interfaces.

The ship radiated noise level fluctuates by the interference between direct and reflected paths. The effect of sea surface reflection path on interference depends strongly on sea surface roughness. This paper describes error characteristics of ship acoustic signature estimation by sea surface scattering effect. The coherent reflection coefficient which explains a magnitude of sea surface scattering and its resultant interference acoustic field is analyzed quantitatively as a function of a grazing angle, effective surface height, frequency, source-receiver range and depths of source and receiver. Theoretical interference acoustic field is compared with experimental result for two different sea surfaces and five different frequencies by changing source-receiver range. It is found that both matches well each other and a magnitude of interference acoustic field is decreasing by increasing a grazing angle, effective surface height, frequency, and depths of source and receiver and decreasing source-receiver range. For given experimental conditions, the transmission anomaly which is a bias error of ship acoustic signature estimation, is about a range of 1~3 dB. The bias error of an existing ship radiated noise measurement system is also analyzed considering wind speed, source depth and frequency.

A technique for improving estimation accuracy is introduced in order to locate the impact position of artillery shell during the weapon scoring test. Study on localization of impacts using acoustic measurement has been conducted and the usability of sensor array is verified with experiments. When the blast occurs above the ground in the firing range, the acoustic sensor above the ground can measure the directly propagated sound with the ground-reflected one. In this study, a method for reducing estimation error by using the reflection signal measurements based on the time difference of arrival method. Considering the reflection sound works as same as placing a virtual sensor symmetrically through the ground. This idea enables a virtual three-dimensional array configuration with a two-dimensional plane array above the ground as such. The time difference between the direct and the reflected propagations can be estimated using cepstrum analysis. Performance test has been made in the simulation experiment in the football size area.

This paper presents an active acoustic-reflection control algorithm based on a single sensor. The proposed algorithm operates in a system comprising a single sensor located nearby the reflective surface and a control transducer mounted on the reflective surface. First, the incident and reflected acoustic signals are separated from the sensor signal, and a control signal is generated using the separated signals. For the signal separation, the proposed algorithm requires the response of the reflection path which is estimated from the acoustic response between an external sound source and the sensor. Finally, the control filter is adjusted using the FxLMS (Filtered-x Least Mean Square) algorithm. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, it was implemented in real time using a DSP (Digital Signal Processing) board, and the experimental results obtained in one-dimensional air-acoustic environment show that the reflections of the 1 kHz burst can be reduced by 11.6 dB.

Localization with array sensors has been applied for not only military but also non-military purposes. The identification of submarines and fish finding are those examples. Nowadays the demand for noise identification is increasing to characterize noise sources and improve acoustic performance of underwater acoustic equipment. For that reason KRISO/KORDI recently constructed an anechoic basin which bus reflection only at the free surface. This paper suggests a noise identification methods using MUSIC algorithm in such an acoustic field. For comparison phase delay sum and minimum valiance methods are also described. At first basic principles are described. A several numerical simulations are also performed. The results say that reflection effect many cause a new non-real source although good estimation is obtained under no reflection conditions.
