This paper studies energy-efficiency (EE) power allocation for cognitive radio MIMO-OFDM systems. Our aim is to minimize energy efficiency, measured by "Joule per bit" metric, while maintaining the minimal rate requirement of a secondary user under a total power constraint and mutual interference power constraints. However, since the formulated EE problem in this paper is non-convex, it is difficult to solve directly in general. To make it solvable, firstly we transform the original problem into an equivalent convex optimization problem via fractional programming. Then, the equivalent convex optimization problem is solved by a sequential quadratic programming algorithm. Finally, a new iterative energy-efficiency power allocation algorithm is presented. Numerical results show that the proposed method can obtain better EE performance than the maximizing capacity algorithm.

In this paper, for the purpose of providing high data rate services, the multi-hop frame structure is designed for the underwater acoustic (UWA) short-range system which is proposed as a part of ocean surveillance and tracking network (OSTN). Under the measured underwater channel environment, the link-level system performance are also evaluated. Simulation results show not only the packet error rate (PER) comparisons, but the optimal modulation and coding scheme (MCS) levels for the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based short-range UWA communications network.

In recent years, researches on various communication methods have been conducted, particularly on OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) and CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) methods, as the use of underwater communication increases. While OFDM is, in general, advantageous in that it is resistant to Doppler in the water and it enables a high-speed communication, CDMA is resistant to frequency selective fading in the water and it can reduce energy consumption. Therefore, in this paper, we performed experiments in the shallow water in Western Sea of Korea to analyze the performance of OFDM and CDMA communication systems in the underwater channel environment. The maximum delay spread and Doppler spread were drawn by using the data obtained from the real sea area in order to analyze the underwater channel environment characteristics of the shallow water in Western Sea of Korea. The communication performances of OFDM and CDMA are shown as coded BER (Bit Error Rate) according to the variation of the maximum delay spread and the Doppler spread, respectively. The result of the analysis show that the OFDM method has more resistant performances to the underwater channel environment changes than the CDMA method.

This paper studies the energy efficiency power allocation for cognitive radio networks based on uplink orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing. The power allocation problem is intended to minimize the maximum energy efficiency measured by "Joule per bit" metric, under total power constraint and robust aggregate mutual interference power constraint. However, the above problem is non-convex. To make it solvable, an equivalent convex optimization problem is derived that can be solved by general fractional programming. Then, a robust energy efficiency power allocation scheme is presented. Simulation results corroborate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
There has been lots of studies on communication systems using millimeter wave recently in many countries, specially in newly assigned 57GHz ~ 64GHz ISM band. Among those studies, IEEE 802.15.3c standard proposes OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) systems for high data rate transmission support. But OFDM method has the PAPR (peak-to-Average Power Radio) problem The PAPR problem is to decline the performance of the transmission system due to signals distorted severely when passing through nonlinear components such as ADC/DAC and power amplifiers. In order to solve the problem of P APR, this paper suggests SSC (Sine Soft Clipping) and analyzes the PAPR, CCDF, PSD, BER by applying SAW(Surface Acoustic Wave) filter and power amplifiers to IEEE 802.15.3.c OFDM WPAN systems.
The performance of underwater communication system is influenced on channel characteristic. Delay spread cause by reverberation and multi-path happen the ISI (Inter Symbol Interference) and reduces the communication performance. In this paper, we analyze the performance of acoustic communication experiment in underwater to use the OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technique for overcome the reverberation and multi-path. As a result, we acquired the BER of modulation techniques. The BER of 2kbps data rate is $1.22{\times}10^{-1}$ and BER of 4 kbps data rate is $2.47{\times}10^{-2}$.

The underwater acoustic wireless communication networks are generally formed by the different autonomous underwater acoustic vehicles, and transceivers interconnected to the bottom of the ocean with battery deployed modems. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has become the most popular modulation technique in underwater acoustic communication due to its high data transmission and robustness over other symmetrical modulation techniques. To maintain the operability of underwater acoustic communication networks, the power consumption of battery-operated transceivers becomes a vital necessity to be minimized. The OFDM technology has a major lack of peak to average power ratio (PAPR) which results in the consumption of more power, creating non-linear distortion and increasing the bit error rate (BER). To overcome this situation, we have contributed our symmetry research into three dimensions. Firstly, we propose a machine learning-based underwater acoustic communication system through long short-term memory neural network (LSTM-NN). Secondly, the proposed LSTM-NN reduces the PAPR and makes the system reliable and efficient, which turns into a better performance of BER. Finally, the simulation and water tank experimental data results are executed which proves that the LSTM-NN is the best solution for mitigating the PAPR with non-linear distortion and complexity in the overall communication system.

In this paper, the channel change was continuously measured for 24 hours from July 5, 2017 on the coast near Deokjeok-do, Incheon. The underwater channel has various channel environment characteristics as the change in the time axis and the change in the frequency axis occurs in real time, and the underwater communication performance decreases due to the multipath fading and the Doppler effect. Therefore, in this study, we performed the OFDM system performance analysis in the underwater channel environment by applying the repetitive transmission diversity scheme in the time and frequency domain to improve the communication performance in the real-world underwater communication environment. Using the collected data, we compared the channel environment in the time and frequency domain and analyzed the BER performance according to the pilot spacing and the number of repetitive transmissions in the time and frequency axis.

Recently, the necessity of underwater communication and demand for transmitting and receiving various data such as voice or high resolution image data are increasing as well. The performance of underwater acoustic communication system is influenced by characteristics of the underwater communication channels. Especially, ISI(inter symbol interference) occurs because of delay spread according to multi-path and communication performance is degraded. In this paper, we study the OFDM technique to overcome the delay spread in underwater channel and by using CP, we compensate for delay spread. But PAPR which OFDM system has problem is very high. Therefore, we use DFT-spread OFDM method to avoid nonlinear distortion by high PAPR and to improve efficiency of amplifier. DFT-spread OFDM technique obtains high PAPR reduction effect because of each parallel data loads to all subcarrier by DFT spread processing before IFFT. In this paper, we show performance about delay spread through OFDM system and verify method that DFT spread OFDM is more suitable than OFDM for underwater communication. And we analyze performance according to two subcarrier mapping methods(Interleaved, Localized). Through the simulation results, performance of DFT spread OFDM is better about 5~6dB at $10^{-4}$ than OFDM. When compared to BER according to subcarrier mapping, Interleaved method is better about 3.5dB at $10^{-4}$ than Localized method.
