Acoustic modal property of the vehicle passenger compartment is a very important factor which dominates vehicle interior noise in the low frequency range. In most real cars, trunk noise often transfers into the passenger compartment since the two cavities are acoustically coupled. This study identifies the major coupling path by examining the variation of the coupled acoustic modal frequencies and modes. An 1/2 size acryl compartment model is designed and manufactured for the measurement and analysis of coupled acoustic modes. Experimental result shows that package tray contributes to the coupling much more than the back seat and hole size of the package tray is an important design factor to control low frequency acoustic modes in the coupled system.

Underwater acoustic communication channel is influenced by environmental parameters such as multipath, background noise and scattering. Therefore, a transmitted signal is influenced by the sea surface and the sea bottom boundaries, and a received signal shows a delay spread. These factors create a noise in the image and degrade the quality of underwater acoustic communication. To solve these problems, in this paper, we evaluate the performance of an underwater acoustic communication model using a denoising auto-encoder used for unsupervised learning. Noise images generated by the underwater multipath channel were collected and used as training data. Experimental results were analyzed as a PSNR parameter that expressed the noise ratio of the two images.
Acoustic scene classification (ASC) categorizes an audio file based on the environment in which it has been recorded. This has long been studied in the detection and classification of acoustic scenes and events (DCASE). In this study, we considered the problem that ASC faces in real-world applications that the model used should have low-complexity. We compared several models that apply light-weight techniques. First, a base CNN model was proposed using log mel-spectrogram, deltas, and delta-deltas features. Second, depthwise separable convolution, linear bottleneck inverted residual block was applied to the convolutional layer, and Quantization was applied to the models to develop a low-complexity model. The model considering low-complexity was similar or slightly inferior to the performance of the base model, but the model size was significantly reduced from 503 KB to 42.76 KB.
The present study numerically investigates the glottal airflow characteristics as well as acoustic features of phonation fully coupled with dynamic behavior of vocal folds. The vocal folds are described by a low-dimensional body-covered model characterized by bio-mechanical parameters such as glottal width, vocal folds stiffness, and subglottal pressure. The flow in the vocal tract is modeled as an incompressible, axisymmetric form of the Navier-Stokes equations (INS), while the acoustic field is predicted by the linearized perturbed compressible equations (LPCE). The computed result shows that a two-mass model of vocal folds is sufficient to reproduce temporal variations in oral airflow and glottis motion produced by female speakers. It is also found that i) the glottal width has a significant effect on the amplitude of glottal flow, and thus on the amplitude of acoustic wave in the vocal tract, ii) the vocal fold tension is the main control parameter for the fundamental frequency of phonation, iii) the subglottal pressure plays an appreciable role on reproduction of the self-sustained oscillation of vocal folds, and iv) the strength of pulsating airflow and vortical structures are primarily affected by glottal width and subglottal pressure, and are closely related to pitch, loudness, and voice quality. Finally, more comprehensive explanation about the difference between one- and two-mass models is presented with discussion of effectiveness of vocal folds oscillation and voice quality.
Laboratory determinations of acoustic and physical properties in Korea Strait sediment were carried out. Sediment sound velocimeter(SSV) was employed to measure the sound velocity of sandy sediment. Distribution patterns of the acoustic and physical properties are controlled by sediment texture. The study area is divided into three provinces(mid-shelf, shelf margin and enough) based on the acoustic and physical properties. This classification matches well with the previous result[14] based on the systems tracks and depositional systems. We suggest a geoacoustic model of the Korea Strait that replacing the old model of Briggs and Fisher[5].
This study determined the acoustic target strength (TS; dB) of black seabream Acanthopagrus schlegeli off the southern coast of Korea. For the ex-situ measurements, 200 kHz split beam transducers were used, and a Kirchhoff-ray mode (KRM) model acoustic model was used for the calculation. The fork length and total weight of the black seabream ranged from 6.4 to 30.8 cm and 6.4 to 683.8 g. respectively 200 kHz, the TS could beexpressed as a function of fork length as: $TS_{max}=20log_{10}(FL)-60.35(R=0.92)$ and $TS_{avg.}=20log_{10}(FL)-66.89(R=0.88)$. These TS results for black seabream can be used for estimating the biomass of fish in acoustic surveys in coastal areas.

Rotary compressors are one of the most important parts of air-conditioners in the industry This device usually has noise problems during the circulation process of the refrigerant and muffler is used for the noise reduction. The acoustic performance of the muffler depends on its shape and its hole locations on the upper surface. Therefore finding the optimum location of the muffler holes is a topic of increasing importance in the compressor industry. In this research the optimization of the muffler hole locations and the importance of the resonator cavity on the lower surface of the muffler in acoustic point of view is studied. At first, the topology optimization for the 2 hole muffler is performed based on a model without resonator cavity by using genetic algorithm. The 2 hole muffler's acoustic analysis and experiment results are matching, however, the optimized model's results are not. By adding the resonator cavity and also by changing the cavity shape, the acoustic analysis and experiment result comparison is Performed for different cavity shapes. The topology optimization of the revised model with cavity is carried out for noise reduction. Finally, the optimized design is produced and tested for validation.

A coupled room system consists of adjacent rooms and apertures where the sound energy is exchanged between the two rooms. Acoustically, a coupled room system shows a non-exponential decay profile. Most of the related researches have been to analyze the acoustic properties of two-room coupled system so far whereas three-room coupled system were seldom studied. In this regard, this paper aims to analyse the distribution of sound pressure level, sound decay curve of three-room coupled system and sound energy flow between them by using the acoustic diffusion model and to further verify them through experiments. Firstly, the sound pressure level distribution and mean sound pressure level in the steady-state condition are analyzed at various frequencies and source locations. Good agreements are observed in both experiments and analysis results. Secondly, two double slope effect quantifiers of sound attenuation, LDT/EDT and LDT/T10 are compared at various frequencies and for different source locations. The result indicates that LDT/T10, less affected by the early reflection patterns than LDT/EDT, is more suitable to the analysis and experiments of a multi-slope sound decay curve. Lastly, the sound energy flow in each room is analyzed based on the acoustic diffusion model. After the early decay stage, the sound energy is observed to flow from the room with a long reverberation time to the room with a short one.

Korea Institute of Geology Mining and Materials(KIGAM) cooperating with Southern Methodist University(SMU) has been operating seismo-acoustic array in Chul-Won area to discriminate man-made explosions from natural earthquakes since at the end of July 1999. In order to characterize propagation parameters of detected seismo-acoustic signal and to associate these signals as a blast event accompanying seismic and acoustic signals simultaneously it is necessary to understand infrasound wave propagation in the atmosphere. Two comparable Effective Sound Velocity Structures(ESVS) in atmosphere were constructed by using empirical model (MSISE90 and HWM93) and by aerological observation data of Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) at O-San area. Infrasound propagation path computed by empirical model resulted in rare arival of refracted waves on ground less than 200km from source region. On the other hand Propagation paths by KMA more realistic data had various arrivals at near source region and well agreement with analyzed seismo-acoustic signals from Chul-Won data. And infrasound propagation in specific direction was very influenced by horizontal wind component in that direction. Linear travel time curve drawn up by 9 days data of the KMA in autumn season showed 335.6m/s apparent sound velocity in near source region. The propagation characteristics will be used to associate seismo-acoustic signals and to calculate propagation parameters of infrasound wave front.

Acoustic Emission (AE) technology is an effective nondestructive testing for continuous monitoring of defect formation and failures in structural materials. This paper presents a source location model using Acoustic Emission (AE) sensors in a Pre-Stressed Concrete (PSC) beam and the evaluation of the model was performed through lab experiments. 54 AE events were made on the surface of the 5m-PSC beam using a Schmidt Hammer and arrival times were measured with 7AE sensors. The source location f3r each event was estimated using least squares. The results were compared with actual positions and the RMSE (Root Mean Square Errors) was about 2cm.
