Formation and Dissociation Kinetics of Tetraaza-Crown-Alkanoic Acid Complexes of Cerium(Ⅲ)

  • The formation and dissociation rates of $Ce^{3+}$ Complexes of the 1,4,7,10-tetraaza-13,16-dioxacyclooctadecane-NN', N",N"'-tetraacetic acid (1), 1,4,7,10-tetraaza-13,16-dioxacyclooctadecane-N,N',N",N"'-tetramethylacetic acid (2), and 1,4,7,10-tetraaza-13,16-dioxacyclooctadecane-N,N',N",N"'-tetrapropionic acid (3) have been measured by the use of stopped-flow spectrophotometry. Observations were made at 25.0±0.1 ℃ and at an ionic strength of 0.10 M $NaClO_4$. The complexation of $Ce^{3+}$ ion with 1 and 2 proceeds through the formation of an intermediate complex $(CeH_3L^{2+})^*$ in which the $Ce^{3+}$ ion is incompletely coordinated. This may then lead to be a final product in the rate-determining step. Between pH 4.76 and 5.76, the diprotonated $(H_2L^{2-})$ from is revealed to be a kinetically active species despite of its low concentration. The stability constants $(logK(CeH_3L^{2+}))$ and specific water-assisted rate constants $(k_{OH})$ of intermediate complexes have been determined from the kinetic data. The dissociation reactions of $Ce^{3+}$ complexes of 1, 2, and 3 were investigated with $Cu^{2+}$, ions as a scavenger in acetate buffer. All complexes exhibit acid-independent and acid-catalyzed contributions. The effect of buffer and $Cu^{2+}$ concentration on the dissociation rate has also been investigated. The ligand effect on the dissociation rate of $Ce^{3+}$ complexes is discussed in terms of the side-pendant arms and the chelate ring sizes of the ligands.

  • 8-Hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid 를 alkali 媒質에서 $10^{\circ}C$以下로 維持하여 nitroso 化시켜 7-nitroso-8-hydroxy-quinoline-5-sulfonate (NHQS)를 合成하였으며 그 酸解離定數를 分光光度法과 pH滴定法에 依하여 測定하였다. 두 方法에 依하여 近似하게 같은 값은 얻어졌고 이것들은 8-hydorxyquinoline의 該當 pK값에 比해 작다. 8-hydroxyquinoline에 比해 NHQS의 낮은 鹽基性은 導入된 電子吸引性基들의 影響으로 생각되며 特히 nitroso 基는 ortho位의 phenol性 OH基의 酸性度의 增加에 많은 影響을 주는 것으로 생각된다.

Methanol-물 및 2-Propanol-물의 混合溶媒에서의 Hydrogen Cupferrate의 酸解離常數의 決定 (Determination of Dissociation Constant of Hydrogen Cupferrate in Methanol-Water and 2-Propanol-Water Solution)

  • The glass electrode was empirically calibrated in methanol-and 2-propanol-water mixed solvents, by means of which the pH-meter reading could be converted to stoichiometric hydrogen ion concentration. The thermodynamic dissociation constants of hydrogen cupferrate in methanol-and 2-propanol-water solution were potentiometrically determined with the changes in composition of organic solvents at 0.01 and 0.05 of the ionic strength and 25$^{\circ}C$. The empirical formula of the constants with mole fraction (n) of the organic solvent are as follow: methanol-water solution $pK_a$= 2.24n + 4.29 at ${\mu}$ = 0.01 n = 0.0476∼0.642 $pK_a$ = 2.35n + 4.38 at ${\mu}$ = 0.05 n= 0.0446~0.642 2-propanol-water solution $pK_a$= 5.50n + 4.48 at ${\mu}$ = 0.05 n = 0.0253~0.259 The relationships between $pK_a$ of acetic acid, propionic acid and HCup and dielectric constant of some mixed solvents were discussed. It would be considered that the factors effecting $pK_a$ value of weak acid in mixed-solvent are not only dielectric constants but acid-base character and solvation effect of the solvent, etc.

새로운 질소-산소(N3O2)계 다섯 자리 리간드의 합성과 중금속(II) 이온들의 착물 안정도상수에 대한 치환기효과 (Synthesis of New Nitrogen-Oxygen(N3O2) Pentadentate Ligands and the Substituent Effect on the Stability Constants of the Heavy(II) Metal Complexes)

  • A new $N_3O_2$ pentadentate ligand, N,N'-Bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-ethylenetriamine(H-BHET 3HCl) was synthesized. The hydrochloric acid salts of Br-BHET 3HCl, Cl-BHET 3HCl, $CH_3O$-BHET 3HCl and $CH_3$-BHET 3HCl containing Br-, Cl-, H-, $CH_3O-$ and $CH_3-$ groups at the para-site of the phenol group of the H-BHEP were synthesized. The structures of the ligands were confirmed by C. H. N. atomic analysis and $^1H$ NMR, $^{13}C$ NMR, UV-visible and mass spectra. The calculated stepwise protonation constants(${\logK_n}^H$) of the synthesized $N_3O_2$ ligands showed six steps of the proton dissociation. The orders of the overall protonation constants($\log{\beta}_p$) of the ligands were Br-BHET < Cl-BHET < H-BHET < $CH_3O$-BHET < $CH_3$-BHET. The orders agreed well with that of para Hammett substituent constants(${\delta}_p$). The calculated stability constants($\logK_{ML}$) between the ligands and heavy metal ions (Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II)) agreed well with the order of the overall proton dissociation constants of the ligands but they showed a reverse order in para Hammestt substituent constants(${\delta}_p$). The order of the stability constants between the heavy metal ions with the synthesized ligands were Co(II) < Ni(II) < Cu(II) > Zn(II) > Cd(II) > Pb(II).

  • Hydrobromic acid salts of new N, N, O tridentate ligands containing phenol, 2-[(2-Methylamino- ethyl- amino)-methyl]-phenol(H-MMP. 2HBr), 5-Bromo-2-[(2-Methylamino-ethylamino)-methyl]-phenol (Br- MMP. 2HBr), 5-Chloro-2-[(2-Methylamino-ethylamino)-methyl]-phenol(Cl-MMP. 2HBr), 5-Methyl-2-[(2-Methylamino-ethylamino)-methyl]-phenol(Me-MMP. 2HBr), 5-Methoxy-2-I(2-Methylamino-ethylamino)- methyl]-phenol(MeO- MMP. 2HBr) and. 1-[(2-Methylamino-ethylamino)- methyl]-naphthalen-2-ol(Nap- MMP. 2HBr) were synthesized. The synthesized ligands were confirmed by C. H. N. atomic analysis, UV-visible and IR spectroscopies, $^1$H NMR, $^{13}$C NMR and mass analysis. The potentiometry study revealed that the proton dissociation constants(logK$_n^H$) of the synthesized ligands and stability constants (logK$_{ML}$, logK$_{LM2}$) of transition metal complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions occurred in three steps and the order of the calculated overall proton dissociation constants(log$\beta_p$) and stability constants (logK$_{ML}$) of ligands was Br-MMP. 2HBr < Cl-MMP 2HBr < H-MMP. 2HBr < Nap-MMP. 2HBr < Me-MMP. 2HBr < MeO-MMP. 2HBr. The order showed a similar trend to that of Hammett substituent constants($\delta_p$). The synthesized ligands usually form 2:1(ML$_2$) complexes with transition metal ions. The order of the stability constants of each transition metal ions was Co(II) < Ni(II) < Cu(II) ;> Zn(II) ;> Cd(II) ;> Pb(II).

  • Hydrochloric acid salt of a new $N_2O_3$ pentadentate ligand, N,N'-Bis(2-Hydroxybenzyl)-1,3-diamino-2-propanol(H-BHDP 2HCl) was synthesized. Br-BHDP 2HCl, CI-BHDP 2HCl, $CH_3-BHDP$ 2HCl and $CH_3O$-BHDP 2HCl having Br, Cl, $CH_3$ and $CH_3O$ substituents at 5-position of the phenol group of H-BHDP 2HCl were also synthesized. The potentiometry study in aqueous solution revealed that the proton dissociations of the synthesized ligands occurred in four steps and their order of the calculated overall proton dissociation constants($log{\beta}_p$) was Br-BHDP < Cl-BHDP < H-BHDP < $CH_3O-BHDP$ < $CH_3-BHDP$. The order showed a similar trend to that of Hammett substituent constants(${\delta}_p$). The order of the stability constants($logK_{ML}$) was Co(II) < Ni(II) < Cu(II) < Zn(II) < Cd(II) < Pb(II). The order in their stability constants ($logK_{ML}$) of each transition metal complex agreed with that of the overall proton dissociation constants ($log{\beta}_p$).

  • 5-Acetyl-8-hydroxyquinoline 의 酸解離定數를 $25^{\circ}C({\mu}$=0.1)에서 分光光度法과 pH滴定法에 依하여 測定하였다. 두 方法에 의하여 얻은 $pK_1$은 近似하게 一致하였으며 pK값은 8-hydroxyquinoline의 該當 pK값보다 작다. 그것은 acetyl group의 芳香族環에 대한 電子吸引性에 基因한 結果라고 생각한다.

  • Hydrochloride acid salts of new $N_2O_2$ tetradentate ligands containing amine and phenol N,N'-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-o-phenylenediamine(H-BHP), N,N'-bis(5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzyl)-o-phenylenediamine(Br-BHP), N,N'-bis(5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzyl)-o-phenylene-diamine(Cl-BHP), N,N'-bis(5-methyl-2-hydroxybenzyl)-o-phenylene-diamine (Me-BHP) and N,N'-bis(5-methoxy-2-hydroxybenzyl)-o-phenylenediamine(MeO-BHP) were synthesized. The ligands were characterized by elemental analysis, mass and NMR spectroscopy. The elemental analysis showed that the ligands were isolated as dihydrochloride salt. The potentiometry study revealed that the proton dissociation constants$(logK_n{^H})$ of ligands and stability constants $(logK_{ML})$ of transition and heavy metals complexes. The order of the stability constants of each metal ions for ligands was Br-BHP < Cl-BHP > H-BHP < MeO-BHP < Me-BHP.

  • Novel $N_2O_2$ tetradentate ligands, H-3BPD and H-2BPD were synthesized. Hydrochloric acid salts of Br-3BPD, Cl-3BPD, Br-2BPD and Cl-2BPD having Br and Cl substituents at the $para$ position of the phenol hydroxyl group, were synthesized. The ligands were characterized by C. H. N atomic analysis, $^1H$ NMR, $^{13}C$ NMR, UV-visible, and mass spectra. The proton dissociation constants ($logK_n{^H}$) of the phenol hydroxyl group and secondary amine of the synthesized $N_2O_2$ ligands were shown by four step wise values. The orders of the calculated overall proton dissociation constants ($log{\beta}_p$) were Br-3BPD < Cl-3BPD < H-3BPD in case of 3BPD and Br-2BPD < Cl-2BPD < H-2BPD in case of 2BPD respectively. The order agreed well with that of $para$ Hammett substituent constants(${\delta}_p$). The stability constants($logK_{ML}$) of the complexes between the synthesized ligands and transition metal(II) ions agreed with the order of $log{\beta}_p$ of the ligands. The order of the $logK_{ML}$ value of the each transition metal (II) ion was Co(II) < Ni(II) < Cu(II) > Zn(II) > Cd(II) > Pb(II), which agreed well with that of Iriving-Williams series.

8-Hydroxyquinoline-5-Sulfonic Acid의 금속킬레이트 생성에 관한 열역학적 고찰 (Thermodynamics of Metal Chelate Formation of 8-Hydroxyquinoline-5-Sulfonic Acid)

  • Acid dissociation constants and chelate stability constants of 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid have been determined for divalent metal ions. Co (Ⅱ), Ni (Ⅱ) and Zn (Ⅱ) by means of the Calvin-Bjerrum technique at the various temperatures. The standard free energy changes for the reactions at $20^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $40^{\circ}$and $50^{\circ}C$ were calculated, and the corresponding values of ${\Delta}H^{\circ}$ and ${\Delta}S^{\circ}$ applying over this temperature range are reported. The results are interpreted on the basis of current theories of metal chelate formation in aqueous solution.
