Paternal Behaviors and Adolescents' Academic Motivation at Low, Moderate, and High Levels of Students' Achievement in Mainland China

  • The purpose of this study was to examine group differences in paternal behaviors (i.e., paternal connection, paternal punitiveness, and paternal knowledge) within and across three academic achievement levels-low, moderate, and high, and to explore the effects of paternal behaviors on the academic motivation of Chinese adolescents within these three achievement groups. Analyses of variance (ANOVAs) indicated that adolescents with low achievement perceived their fathers as more punitive than teens with moderate and high academic achievement. Regression analyses also revealed that paternal punitiveness (negative) and paternal knowledge (positive) were significant predictors of academic motivation for teens with low levels of academic achievement; while paternal punitiveness was a significant negative predictor of academic motivation among adolescents with moderate achievement. In contrast, for adolescents with high achievement, paternal connection was a positive significant predictor of academic motivation. The present findings provide some evidence that the impact of parental behaviors on teen's motivation varies across adolescent academic achievement levels, which may prove useful for professionals working with fathers to help target the most effective parenting behaviors to foster academic motivation.

  • The characteristics of the pseudo-conceptual or the pseudo-analytical behaviors according to the achievement level(i.e. advanced group, proficient group, basic group, and below-basic group) in grade 9 are as follows. The pseudo-conceptual or pseudo-analytical behaviors to get credit from teachers become conspicuous in lower achievement level. The high achieving students showed more pseudo-conceptual or pseudo-analytical behaviors without undergoing the process of reflection or control. The proficient group was short of control in computation, and the advanced group didn't control well in representation. The proficient group tended to depend on a past successful algorithm and behave habitually. Therefore, it is needed to teach mathematics according to the characteristic of pseudo-conceptual or pseudo-analytic behaviors shown in each achievement level.

부모의 양육행동, 남녀 아동의 완벽주의 및 성취동기간의 관계 (The Relationship among Parenting Behaviors, Children's Perfectionism and Achievement Motivation)

  • This study examined the relationship among parenting behaviors, children's perfectionism and achievement motivation, using a sample of 338 fifth and sixth graders. The participants completed questionnaires on parenting behaviors and their perfectionism and achievement motivation. Data were analyzed by factor analyses and multiple regression analysis. Both boys and girls had higher achievement motivation when they perceived higher parental levels of acceptance, and girls showed higher achievement motivation when they perceived higher maternal control/over-expectation. Boys who exhibited self-oriented and socially prescribed perfectionism and girls who exhibited self-oriented perfectionism showed higher achievement motivation. Boys had higher self-oriented and socially prescribed perfectionism when perceiving higher parental acceptance and control/over-expectation. Girls showed higher self-oriented perfectionism when perceiving higher parental acceptance and control/over-expectation, and they showed higher socially prescribed perfectionism when perceiving higher paternal control/over-expectation and maternal acceptance and control/over-expectation. It was revealed that both boys' and girls' perfectionism tended to play mediating roles between parenting behaviors and achievement motivation.

협동학습 과정에서의 언어적 행동과 학업 성취도와의 관계 (The Relationships between Verbal Behaviors and Academic Achievement in Cooperative Learning)

  • 본 연구에서는 중학교 1학년 37명을 대상으로 과학 수업에서 협동학습을 실시하고 소집단 협동학습 과정을 녹음/녹화하였다. 이를 토대로 협동학습 과정에서 발생하는 언어적 행동 유형을 범주화하고 이들과 학업 성취도 사이의 관계를 조사하였다. 학생들의 언어적 행동은 크게 학습 내용과 관련된 행동 및 조 활동 관리와 관련된 행동으로 구분되었다. 학습 내용과 관련된 행동은 도움 주기, 문제 읽기, 도움 요청하기로 세분되었으며, 이 중 도움 주기 행동이 가장 많았다. 학생들의 언어적 행동과 학업 성취도 사이의 단순 상관 관계를 조사한 결과, 도움 주기와 문제 읽기 행동이 학업 성취도와 정적인 상관이 있었다. 도움 주기 중 구체적인 내용을 제공하는 행동은 학업 성취도와 매우 밀접한 관계가 있었다. 한편, 부분 상관을 통하여 언어적 행동과 학업 성취도 향상과의 관계를 조사한 결과, 상위 수준의 사고를 요하는 적용 영역 성취도의 향상만이 구체적인 내용 제공하기를 비롯한 일부 언어적 행동과 정적인 상관이 있었다.

태권도선수의 참여동기와 성취목표지향성이 성취행동에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Taekwondo Athletes' Sports Participation Motivation on Achievement Orientation and Achievement Behaviors)

  • 본 연구에서는 태권도 선수들을 대상으로 태권도 참여동기와 성취목표지향성, 그리고 성취행동 간의 영향관계를 검증하고, 이 과정에서 성취목표지향성의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 본 연구의 대상은 호남권 거주 태권도 선수 256명으로서, 설문조사자료를 이용하여 구조방정식모형분석을 통해 가설 검증을 수행하였다. 검증 결과, 태권도선수의 참여동기는 성취목표지향성에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 나타내었다. 그리고 성취목표지향성과 성취행동 간의 경로계수는 정(+)의 관계를 보였다. 한편, 태권도선수의 참여동기는 성취목표지향성을 매개로하여 성취행동에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 태권도선수의 경기력향상에 있어서, 참여동기를 반영하여, 성취행동에 미치는 영향을 확인하고, 이 과정에서 성취목표지향성의 효과를 검증하였다는데 의미가 있을 것이다.

어머니의 자기효능감과 양육행동 및 아동의 성취동기가 아동의 자기효능감에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Mother's Self-Efficacy and Parenting Behavior and Children's Achievement Motivation on Children's Self-Efficacy)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of mothers' self-efficacy, parenting behaviors, and children's achievement motivation on children's self-efficacy. Subjects were 591 fifth- and sixth-graders and their mothers in Busan. Statistics and methods used for data analysis were Cronbach's alpha, Pearson's correlation, Multiple Regression, and Path Analysis. Several major findings of this study were as follows: 1) Any difference was not found by sex in children's general and total self-efficacy. Girls' social efficacy, however, was higher than boys'. 2) Achievement motivation had a direct positive effect and was the first positive contribution factor to the self-efficacy of both sexes. 3) On boys' self-efficacy, mothers' own had an indirect positive effect through achievement motivation, and their parental role efficacy had a positive effect, direct or indirect, through their affective parenting behaviors and the boys' achievement motivation; also mothers' affective parenting behaviors had an indirect positive effect through achievement motivation, and their controlling parenting had a direct negative effect. 4) On girls' self-efficacy, mothers' own had a direct positive effect, and their parental role efficacy had an indirect positive effect through their affective and controlling parenting behaviors and the girls' achievement motivation; also mothers' affective parenting behaviors had a positive effect, direct or indirect, through achievement motivation, and the controlling parenting had a negative effect, direct or indirect.

중·고등학생들의 인구사회경제적 특성, 건강관련행위 및 주관적 건강인지가 학업성취도에 미치는 영향 (Influencing factors to Academic Achievement according to Demographic and Socio-economic Characteristics, Health Behaviors and Health Status in Korean Adolescents)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine whether demographic and socio-economic characteristics, health behaviors and health status are related to academic achievement in Korean adolescents. Methods: Data from the 14th Korea Youth Risk Behaviors web-based Survey(KYRBWS) administered in 2018 were analyzed; 60,040 students in middle and high school participated in the survey. It was conducted frequency analysis, Rao-Scott chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis after adjusted for variables such as age, school grade. Results: The significant influencing factors on academic achievement were family economic status, living with parents, subjective health status, smoking experience, alcohol use experience, eating breakfast, sleeping, internet use during weekdays, depressive symptom(p<.001). The odds ratio for achieving higher academic achievement compared with those who never smoked was 1.50(p<.001). Conclusion: I found that students' undesirable health behaviors affect their academic performance. To improve academic achievement, I recommend intervention programmes such as school health promotion that reduce undesirable health related behaviors.

개별배려적 리더십행위와 구성원의 조직몰입: 성취욕구의 조절효과에 관한 연구 (Individualized Consideration Leadership Behavior and Employee's Organizational Commitment: The Moderating Effect of Need-for-Achievement)

  • This study aims to investigate hypotheses for the effects of leaders' individualized consideration leadership behaviors(Bass, 1985) and employee's organizational commitment. It is proposed that individualized consideration leadership behaviors will positively effect on employee's organizational commitment. And to understand the importance of followers' characteristics in recent leadership studies, it is also proposed that the follower's need for achievement(N-Arch) moderates in the relationship of individualized consideration leadership behaviors and organizational commitment. After descriptive survey, research model setup, and field survey, this empirical study investigated the above mentioned hypotheses thru SPSS for Windows 12.0. It involved linear regression analysis to reveal the significant main effect of the individualized consideration leadership behaviors. It also revealed moderating regression analysis to reveal the significant moderating effects of need for achievement between the independent variables(individualized consideration leadership behaviors) and dependent variable(the organizational commitment). Results revealed that leaders' individualized consideration leadership behaviors positively affected to its employee's organizational commitment(Hypothesis 1). And positive moderating effect of N-Arch was strongly supported between leader's individualized consideration leadership behaviors and follower's organizational commitment (Hypothesis 2).

조부모-손자녀가족 아동의 학교생활적응 (School Adjustment of Children Raised by Grandparents)

  • Although increasing number of children are being raised by grandparents these days, little research exists on the development of the children in this arrangement. This study aimed at examining school adjustment of the children raised by grandparents, by comparing academic achievement and general classroom and school behaviors of the children in grandparent families with those of their peers from other types of families such as two-parents, single parent, kinship and institution care, and single parent with grandparent(s). Three hundred and twenty four 2nd graders md two hundred ninety eight 5th graders were surveyed for this study. It was found that children raised solely by grandparents did quite well, relative to children in traditional families where two parents were present. Children from single-parent families were significantly worse in school achievement and study habits than children in traditional nuclear families. Girls obtained higher scores on school achievement and study habits whereas they showed lower scores on problem behaviors than boys. There was also an interaction effect between family structure and gender of child in school achievement.

온라인 수업에서 방사선(학)과 학생들의 딴짓이 자기주도적 학습역량, 몰입, 학업성취도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Other Behaviors on Self-Directed Learning Ability, Flow and Academic Achievement of Department of Radiology(science) Students in Online Classes)

  • 본 연구는 COVID-19 상황 속에서 온라인 수업을 경험한 방사선(학)과 대학생들을 대상으로 수업 중 이루어지는 딴짓의 정도를 확인하고 자기주도적 학습역량, 몰입과 학업성취도가 딴짓에 미치는 영향을 규명하기 위함이었다. 연구방법은 서술적 조사연구이며, 연구 대상은 방사선(학)과 학생들로 구조화된 설문지를 이용하여 2022년 6월 1일부터 6월 30일까지 조사하여 200부를 최종 분석 대상으로 하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS/WIN 21.0을 이용하여 척도의 신뢰도를 검증하고, 딴짓을 유형을 파악하고 한 후 일반적 특성, 딴짓, 자기주도적 학습역량, 몰입과 학업성취도에 대하여 기술통계, 분산분석, Pearson's 상관관계 그리고 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 대상자들의 딴짓은 '딴 생각하기', '문자하기' 순이 였으며 딴짓은 1.75점, 자기주도적 학습능력은 3.60점, 몰입은 3.23점, 학업성취도는 4.29점으로 나타났다. 딴짓과 자기주도적 학습역량, 몰입과 학업성취도 간에는 유의한 음의 상관관계가 있었으며, 딴짓에 미치는 영향을 미치는 요인은 학업성취도, 나이, 몰입, 자기주도적 학습능력 순이었다. 이상의 결과로 방사선(학)과 대학생들의 딴짓을 낮출 수 있는 방법이 학업성취도를 높이는 것임으로 수업에 몰입할 수 있는 구체적 방안 및 다양한 교수법이 필요할 것으로 기대된다.
