Gas phase compositions of the hot filament-assisted diamond CVD reaction were analyzed by on-line quadrupole mass analysis(QMA) technique. D2 isotope experiments showed that methance molecules were decomposed into atomic state and then recombined in to acetylene during transport the probe line. Although acetylene or ethylene was supplied instead of methane similar gas compositions were obtained when filament temperature was above 1500$^{\circ}C$ Therefore this system could be assumed near thermal equilibrium state. Filament temperature and reaction pressure variation experiments exhibited the same tendency between acetylene concentration and diamond growth rate and these results implied that acetylene molecule played the role of the reactive species in the diamond CVD reaction.
The Phase and temperature changes of large clusters formed in a free jet expansion of acetylene in 14atm and 233K has been studied. The cluster has been treated as a sphere composed of many shells. A mean diameter of 4.88 microns was obtained by modeling the experimental cooling curve of clusters based on evaporation and heat conduction theory.
The objective of this study is to determine the concentrations of mixed gases by establishing a diagnosis method of a transformer using tunable-wavelength optical infrared sensors. Absorption of infrared light by methane, acetylene, and ethylene gases injected is measured from the outputs of the infrared sensors. Regression analysis equations of the gas concentrations are acquired from their respective measured absorption. The obtained concentrations are as follows: -3-9 % errors above 600 ppm(methane), 3 % errors above 1200 ppm(acetylene), and 10 % errors above 500 ppm(ethylene). The concentration inference equations obtained using the individual gases are applicable when the absorption wavelength bands do not overlap. The results of the fault analysis of a transformer using the Duval triangle method and the tunable infrared gas sensors are as follows: temperature faults with -1-1% errors and energy faults with -7-7 % errors.

Steel tire cords were coated via RF plasma polymerization of acetylene and butadiene gas in order to enhance adhesion to rubber compounds. Adhesion of tire cords was measured by TCAT and T-test as a function of type of gas, plasma powder, treatment time, gas pressure and Ar gas etching. Some samples were subjected to aging study in distilled water at $80^{\circ}C$ for a period of 7 days. After testing, tire cords were analysed by SEM to elucidate the adhesion mechanism. The highest adhesion values were obtained at 20W, 2min and 25mtorr for acetylene plasma polymerization, and l0W, 4min, 25mtorr for butadiene plasma polymerization. However, Ar plasma etching did not affect adhesion, while the adhesion of tire cords increased rather than decreased, contrary to expectations. It was not possible to elucidate failure mode by SEM, owing to the rough surface of the tire and the thin plasma polymer coating layer.

Two crystal structures of ethylene (a= 12.272(2) ${\AA}$) and acetylene (a = 12.245(2) ${\AA}$) sorption complexes of dehydrated fully $Ca^{2+}$-exchanged zeolite A have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group, Pm3m at $21(1)^{\circ}C$. Their complexes were prepared by dehydration at $360^{\circ}C$ and $2{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr for 2 days, followed by exposure to 200 Torr of ethylene gas and 120 Torr of acetylene gas both at $24^{\circ}C$, respectively. The structures were refined to final R (weighted) indices of 0.062 with 209 reflections and 0.098 with 171 reflections, respectively, for which I > 3${\sigma}$(I). The structures indicate that all six $Ca^{2+}$ ions in the unit cell are associated with 6-oxygen ring of the aluminosilicate framework. Four of these extend somewhat into the large cavity where each is coordinated to three framework oxide ions and an ethylene molecule and/or an acetylene molecule. The carbon to carbon distance in ethylene sorption structure is 1.48(7) ${\AA}$ and that in acetylene sorption structure 1.25(8) ${\AA}$. The distances between $Ca^{2+}$ ion and carbon atom are 2.87(5) ${\AA}$ in ethylene sorption structure and 2.95(7) ${\AA}$ in acetylene sorption structure. These bonds are relatively weak and probably formed by the electrostatic attractions between the bivalent $Ca^{2+}$ ions and the polarizable ${\pi}$-electron density of the ethylene and/or acetylene molecule.
Electrical apparatuses for use in the presence of flammable gas atmospheres have to be specially designed to prevent them from igniting the explosive gas. Flameproof design implies that electrical components producing electrical sparks are contained in enclosures and withstand the maximum pressure of internal gas or vapours. In addition, any gaps in the enclosure wall have to designed in such a way that they will not transmit a gas explosion inside the enclosure to an explosive gas or vapours atmosphere outside it. In this study, we explained some of the most important physical mechanism of MESG(Maximum Experimental Safe Gap) that the jet of combustion products ejected through the flame gap to the external surroundings do not have an energy and temperature large enough to initiate an ignition of external gas or vapours. We measured the MESG and maximum explosion pressure of ternary gas mixtures(propane-acetylene-air) by the test method and procedure of IEC 60079-20-1:2010. As a result, the composition of propane gas that has lower explosive power than acetylene gas in the ternary gas mixtures makes greater effects on MESG and explosion pressure.
The properties of carbon nanotube obtained by thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process were investigated as a function of ammonia $(NH_3)$ gas in hydrocarbon gas, Fe catalyst thickness, and growth temperature. Fe catalyst was prepared by DC magnetron sputter and pre-treated with ammonia gas. CNTs were then grown with ammonia-acetylene gas mixture by thermal CVD. The diameter of these CNTs shows a strong correlation with the gas rate, the catalyst film thickness and temperature. From our results, it was found that the factors of grown CNTs positively acted to improve CNT quality.
A universal plasma-chemical module (PChM) for the industrial processing of different hydrocarbon raw material pyrolysis was designed and tested. Laboratory investigations for the plasma-chemical method of acetylene production from natural gas and different coals were made. Similar laboratory tests on the industrial production of acetylene as a raw material for organic syn-thesis were developed using the PChM. A comparison of the suggested plasma-chemical method with the traditional process of acetylene production were carried out. The outlook of the plasma-chemical method was shown.

Titanium carbide(TiC) films, known as having excellent characteristics of resistance to wear and corrosion, were deposited on SUS-304 sheets using HCD(Hollow Cathode Discharge) reactive ion plating with acetylene gas as the reactant gas. The characteristics of TiC films were examined by X-ray diffraction, micro-Vickers hardness tester, ${\alpha}$-step, SEM(Scanning Electron Spectroscopy), ESCA(Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis), and AES(Auger Electron Spectroscopy) and the results were discussed with regard to the changes of various deposition conditions(bias voltage, acetylene flow rate, temperature).

Single-well-gas-sparging tests were developed and evaluated for assessing the feasibility of in-situ aerobic cometabolism of trichloroethylene (TCE), using propane as a growth substrate. To evaluate transport characteristics of dissolved solutes [sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) or bromide (non-reactive tracers), propane (a growth substrate), ethylene, propylene (nontoxic surrogates to probe for CAH transformation activity), and DO], push-pull transport tests were performed. Mass balance showed about 90% of the injected bromide and about 80% of the injected SF6 were recovered, and the recoveries of other solutes were comparable with bromide and slightly higher than SF6. A series of Gas-Sparging Biostimulation tests were performed by sparging propane/oxygen/argon/SF6 gas mixtures, and temporal ground water samples were obtained from the injection well under natural gradient 'drift' conditions. The decreased time for propane depletion and the longer time to deplete SF6 as a conservative tracer indicate the progress of biostimulation. Gas-Sparging Activity tests were performed. .Propane utilization, DO consumption, and ethylene and propylene cometabolism were well demonstrated. The stimulated propane-utilizers cometabolized ethylene and propylene to produce ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, as cometabolic by-products, respectively. Gas-Sparging Acetylene Blocking tests were performed by sparging gas mixtures including acetylene to demonstrate the involvement of monooxygenase enzymes. Gas substrate degradation was essentially completely Inhibited in the presence of acetylene, and no production of the corresponding oxides was also observed. The Gas-Sparging tests supports the evidences that the successive stimulation of propane-oxidizing microorganisms, cometabolic transformation of ethylene and propylene by the enzyme responsible for methane and propane degradation.
