미국과 한국의 공학교육인증 체제 비교에 대한 사례 연구 (A Case Study on Comparison Between Korea and America in Accreditation System of Engineering Education)

  • 본 연구에서는 EC2000 시스템하에서 2007년도에 공학교육 인증평가를 받은 한국의 A대학과 미국의 M 대학의 공학교육인증 체제를 비교, 분석하고자 한다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 해당 프로그램의 자체평가보고서 분석 및 홈페이지 검색을 실시하였다.한국과 미국의 공학교육인증 기준은 거의 대동소이하나 한국의 인증기준이 행정적인 지원 체제나 각 평가기준별 자율순환체제를 강조하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 인증평가별 체제를 살펴보았을 때 미국의 장점을 꼽아보면 체계적인 교육과정 운영과 설계교육, 교과목 중심의 프로그램 학습성과 평가 체제, 교수들의 연구 및 학생지도에의 지원 체제이다. 한국의 장점은 다원적인 지원 체제를 기반으로 하고 평가에서의 정량적인 지표 활용이 많기 때문에 이를 교육개선에 활용하기 쉬운 면이 있고, 학생포트폴리오의 활용을 통한 체계적인 학생 지도가 가능하다는 점이다.

공학계열 대학생의 핵심역량 진단(K-CESA) 결과에 따른 차이 분석: 계열, 인증여부, 성별, 입학전형을 중심으로 (Analysis of the Differences in the Core Competencies Diagnosis(K-CESA) Result in Engineering Students: Focused on Major Field, Accredited Status, Gender, Admission Types)

  • This study aims to examine the differences between groups through the results of the core competency diagnosis, and to find out the differences in core competences depending on engineering education accreditation, gender, admission types. To this end, we analyzed the differences in K-CESA results on self-management capabilities, resources & information use, global competency, higher order thinking competency, and interpersonal competency in 2017 for the fourth graders of S University. An ANOVA of major field showed that the humanities had high overall competencies. The results of t-test of engineering students showed that accredited students had relatively low "flexibility" of their global competency, and that the "analysis" of their higher order thinking competency was relatively high. There were no statistically significant differences between groups depending on the admission types. Through these analyses, we presented suggestions such as the provision of specialized programs based on differences among different groups, the development of comprehensive thinking skills such as capstone design, the need to secure flexibility in engineering education accreditation, and the enhancement of female students' resources & information use.

공학교육인증에서의 프로그램 교육목표 달성도 평가모형 개발 (A Study on the Development of Evaluation Model for Achieving Program Education Objectives in Accreditation of Engineering Education)

  • The main purposes of this study was to develop evaluation model, which provides program educational objectives(PEO) evaluation research with guidances on how to evaluate the program educational objectives and procedures in order to enhance the quality of engineering education. Educational objective evaluation is reciprocal processes that depend on and affect one another. Thus, the evaluation component deals with how to identify members' strengths, weakness, and needs, how to assess and improve the effectiveness of curriculum programs, and how to provide data that assist in decision making. After literature reviews about the case studies on the program educational objectives evaluation, this study, to understand the meaning of education evaluation and the engineering accreditation, and then, examined the evaluation model for program educational objectives. This study suggested evaluation components of program educational objectives. In particular, the distinctions between diagnostic, formative, and summative evaluation are discussed. The result of this study is significant in terms of guiding the future evaluation model development for program educational objectives.

온라인 비교과 설계 교육과정에서 기초 설계 교육과정으로의 적용 가능성 탐색 : 온라인 IoT 비교과 교육과정 사례를 중심으로 (Exploring the Applicability from Extracurricular Design to Basic Engineering Design in Online : Focusing on the Case of IoT Extra-Curricular in Online)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effectiveness the IoT program in online, and explore the applicability of the design course in consideration of design elements and realistic constraints for engineering education accreditation in online. For this study, IoT programs developed based on online classes were operated, and the effectiveness as a subject was verified through satisfaction surveys, competency test, and interview of participating students. In addition, by presenting design elements and realistic constraints in a online environment required to apply to engineering design courses, it is expected that they can be used as basic data in developing and operating actual design curriculum.

공학인증 학습성과의 올바른 해석과 이해 (KEC2005 Program Outcomes: Sound Interpretation and Understanding)

  • Engineering education accreditation, such as by ABEEK in Korea or ABET in USA, centers around outcomes-based education (OBE). Outcomes are the abilities or competencies which students are expected to achieve by the time of graduation. Engineering programs must design the curriculum, educate their students, and assess the performance of them in accordance with the program outcomes. Consequently, sound understanding of the program outcomes is crucial to the successful implementation of OBE. Most of the 12 outcomes of ABEEK KEC2005 criteria came from ABET criteria written in English. It means that, apart from sound understanding of the outcomes, we need to care about the correct translation of the ABET outcomes from English to Korean. The translation of them as in KEC2005, however, leaves something to be desired. This paper tries to present the correct translation of some program outcomes as well as sound understanding of a few outcomes difficult to define.

  • 공학교육인증기준 KEC2005에서는 프로그램의 교육목표와 학습성과를 달성하도록 전공은 물론 수학, 기초과학, 전산학, 전문교양과 관련된 충분한 교과목이 제공되는 것을 요구한다. 따라서 학생들의 전공 교과목 이수 뿐 아니라 전문교양 교과과정에 대한 성취도 중요시 된다. 본 연구에서는 학생들이 갖추어야할 공학기본소양교육의 필요성을 검토하고, 현재 공학교육인증제를 실시하고 있는 여러 대학들의 인증 프로그램 교과과정 중 전문교양 교과과정 구성의 실태분석을 통한 전문교양 교과영역의 전형적인 모형을 도출하였다.

K-EP(K-Engineering Professional) 자격을 위한 졸업생역량 평가방안 연구 (A Study on Graduate Attributes Assessment for K-EP (K-Engineering Professional) Qualification)

  • The present study aims to demonstrate that it is possible to objectively evaluate the competency (referred to as graduate attributes or program outcomes) of graduates of engineering education programs. To strengthen the link between engineering education accreditation and the qualification/certification system of engineering professionals, referred to as K-Engineering Professional (K-EP), individually assuring the quality of accredited graduates using multiple-choice test as main assessment tool is proposed. Test questions related to the basic vocational skills of NCS are developed for seven of the 10 program outcomes of the ABEEK KEC2015. The three program outcomes, PO1, PO3, and PO5, which need to fully accommodate the characteristics of each disciplinary field, are excluded. A pilot test involving graduates of eight accredited programs is conducted. Applying on Rasch model based on Item Response Theory (IRT), the item difficulty, fit and discrimination of multiple choice test are demonstrated. The pilot study strongly suggests that individual competency evaluation is possible at a certain level for seven program outcomes tested. For PO1, PO3, and PO5, however, questions that address the characteristics of each disciplinary field need to be devised. If a suitable pool of questions is built, it can be used as a program outcomes assessment tool by the accredited programs.

  • Construction safety education will continue to attract the interests of construction educators, researchers, and industry professionals due to its immense influence on accident reduction and prevention. A well-educated workforce with a thorough understanding of safety requirements and procedures is needed to develop and apply effective safety and health programs as well as devise strategic means of preventing injuries, illnesses, and fatalities on construction projects. The objective of this research is to evaluate construction safety education in the curriculum of construction programs in the United States. An analysis of construction safety courses across accredited construction programs in the U.S. is conducted to synthesize important details and common themes. A nationwide characterization of the safety courses presented followed by an assessment selected a few programs as a pilot study. Critical elements of the courses such as course titles, course year, credit hours, topics covered, and alignment with professional certification or outreach training courses are characterized. Findings from the study reveal the similarities and variations that exist among safety courses taught in different construction programs in the U.S. These findings could result from several influencing factors, which could be the subject of further investigations geared toward improving safety education in construction programs.

  • Content is often developed inconsistently in technical authoring environments, as new documents are created and existing documents are revised. The Darwin Information Typing Architecture(DITA) is an XML-based, end-to-end architecture for authoring, producing, and delivering technical documentations. The core of most advanced authoring and publishing systems is the concept of content reuse. In this paper, we describe to design and implement an authoring and producing system of different technical documentations for the accreditation programs of Engineering Education using DITA XML. It provide a content reuse method for accomplishing the improvement of content consistency and the speed-up of the production in technical documentations.

학습성과 달성도의 공학교육인증 졸업기준 적용에 대한 논의점 (Discussions on Applying Program Outcomes to Graduation Requirements in ABEEK)

  • Many engineering schools in Korea implement ABEEK programs. One of the core parts of ABEEK is accreditation criterion 2, the program outcomes and their appraisal. This paper tries to discuss the program outcomes and to study the impact of applying the program outcomes to one of the graduation requirements. We show simple survey results for implementing ABEEK programs concerning the program outcomes and their relation to graduation requirements. If the program outcomes are used as one of the graduation requirements, some graduates may satisfy the average grade point for graduation requirements but can not meet the program outcome criteria satisfied by other than regular classes. In this case, the graduate may have trouble to try to meet the program outcome criteria, since he may not be able to stay in school without taking classes. The problems of setting the levels of program outcomes as graduation requirements, non classwork related program outcomes, and work burden to professors should be also prudently reviewed for successful ABEEK implementation.
