  • This research examined the similarities and differences between Korean and Japanese accounting management in condominiums, the basic principles of managing them and to deepen the discussion on subjects worth further consideration. This research was done by going through documents from August 2006 to October 2007 in both Korea and Japan. The research indicates many problems in accounting management. Management companies, both in Korea and Japan, used their own individual formats for managing and accounting documents. Furthermore, the problems discovered included the lack of sufficient paperwork accounting done without dividing short- and long-term expenses the preference for cash expenses that weren't approved by the Association of Apartment Owners and inefficient financial auditing. The basic principle of accounting management is to follow a budget, put down rules clearly and to conduct factual, understandable and continued accounting. Therefore, a standard for accounting management must be implemented and basic manuals for auditing and accounting must be provided along with easy-to-understand information.

  • By applying behavioral intention theories and the theory of diffusion of innovation in organizations, this study identified several factors influencing the intention to apply management accounting in enterprises in Vietnam. Research data was collected from the questionnaire sent to Vietnamese enterprises in 2019, collecting 542 observations from accountants and directors. The data is, then, synthesized by excel file, conformity check, and processed by SPSS 20 software with descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. The results showed four factors that affect the intention to apply management accounting in enterprises in Vietnam: (1) Performance expectancy; (2) Effort expectancy; (3) Perceived trust; and (4) Subjective norms. The study pointed out that the above factors explain 60.618% of the variation of "intention to apply management accounting", in which, Subjective norms has the strongest impact (regression coefficient is 0.238). The findings also show that raising the awareness of managers and accountants about the role of management accounting, improving the qualifications and knowledge of accountants, and increasing the trust of managers about management accounting information are needed to increase the level of management accounting application in Vietnamese enterprises. The study also proposes recommendations to improve the effectiveness of management accounting for managers in operation and decision-making.

Survey questionnaires were distributed to both public and private hospitals in Palembang, the South Sumatera region, Indonesia. The sample consisted of 62 respondents from 15 hospitals Target respondents were all managers in hospitals, including financial managers, service managers, human resource managers, quality managers, and other managers. The questionnaire was distributed online to each hospital, and approximately five or more questionnaires were hardcopies. This research was conducted over less than six months. The data obtained were processed via excel files, then checked for conformity, and analyzed by partial least square (PLS) software with descriptive statistics. This study uses path analysis, which that is structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings show that management style, decentralization, and budgetary participation significantly affect management accounting systems. However, management style and budgetary participation did not influence managerial performance. Finally, the findings indicate that management accounting systems are positively affected by managerial performance.

  • The study investigates the relationship between broad-scope management accounting information usage, market orientation, and the firm performance. This study employs a survey data of 149 top-level and mid-level managers working in Vietnamese tourism enterprises. To analyze research data, we employ SmartPLS 3 software. The analytical process include measurement model evaluation (evaluate the scale's validity and reliability) and structural model evaluation (test research hypotheses). The results reveal that broad-scope management accounting information usage has a positive direct effect on market orientation dimensions (include information generation, information dissemination, and responsiveness). Then, market orientation dimensions also have positive direct effects on the performance of Vietnamese tourism firms, excluding information dissemination. Moreover, this study also reveals that the market orientation dimensions mediate the relationship between broad-scope management accounting information usage and firm performance. The findings of this study suggest that tourism firms should pay more attention to the use of management accounting information in decision-making. With the increasingly fierce competition of the tourism firms today, capturing and meeting the needs of the market is a prerequisite to help firms enhance their competitiveness and improve their performance. To do that, Vietnamese tourism firms need to consider pursuing market orientation and enhancing broad-scope management accounting information usage.

  • In the wake of several high-profile corporate accounting scandals, there has been evidence that companies are more eager to hire Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) with an accounting background. This signals that CEOs with an accounting background are recognized and trusted by the corporate world to boost the quality of financial reporting of a company. If it is so, in the context of combating the earnings management, hiring CEOs with an accounting background (being a conservative accounting practitioner), could become one of the effective internal corporate governance mechanisms (CGM) to bring down the earnings management activities. This study attempts to provide insight into the level of conservatism of the CEO with an accounting background. Following Basu (1997) and Khan and Watt (2009), the firm-year measure of conservatism (C_Score) was obtained, which later was associated with the accounting education of the CEO to determine their relationship. As expected, CEOs with accounting background exhibit a higher level of moral reasoning than their non - accounting educated counterparts. The finding of this study is useful to persuade the policymaker to consider lifting the trend of hiring a CEO with an accounting background as one of the best practices that the companies can work out to lessen earnings management activities.

  • This study aims at investigating the effect of product innovation accounting on the market success of instant food and convenience food businesses in Thailand with customer response capability as the mediator. In addition, it examines the effects of management accounting systems, marketing intelligence, and technology orientation on product innovation accounting. The sample for this study is 258 instant food and convenience food businesses in Thailand. To test the research relationships, a structural equation model is used. The results of this study show that product innovation accounting has a significant effect on both customer response capability and market success. Similarly, customer response capability significantly leads to market success while it mediates the product innovation accounting-market success relationship. • Using the Heckman two-step procedure, this study investigates the relationship between management accounting implementation and firm effectiveness. The research data for this study was acquired from 450 publicly traded companies in Vietnam; however, the final sample only includes 304 responses containing useful information. The reliability analysis was used to evaluate the acquired data to examine the qualities of constructs and the dimensions that make them up. Then, the Heckman two-step technique was performed to analyze the causal connection from the acceptance of management accounting to firm effectiveness allowing for the effect of environmental uncertainty and organizational characteristics on the likelihood of adopting management accounting. The empirical findings show that management accounting acceptance determines firm effectiveness; however, the research model on the relationship between management accounting adoption and firm effectiveness has a sample selection bias. The main conclusions of this study are that there is a difference in the effects of management accounting adoption on business effectiveness when sample selection bias is not taken into consideration. When potential sample selection bias is taken into account by integrating environmental uncertainty and organizational characteristics in the research model, the effect of adopting management accounting on company effectiveness becomes minor.

  • The article analyzes the impact of factors affecting the application of management accounting in Vietnamese small and medium enterprises. It provides more empirical evidence on the factors affecting the application of cost management accounting. The research methodology involved a questionnaire survey of managers at all levels, and chief accountants and accountants of 65 Vietnamese construction enterprises. 220 questionnaires were collected in total, out of which 14 invalid questionnaires were not used due to many blank cells. The 5-level Likert scale is familiarly used in many studies, so the author also quantifies each factor according to five levels. Quantitative research was carried out with SPSS 25 software. Research results show that 4 factors positively influence the application of cost management accounting, including Business strategy, Management cost control, level of accounting staff, and Manager's point of view on cost management accounting. The level of accounting staff factor has the strongest influence on the application. Based on the research results, the author has proposed recommendations to improve the application of cost management accounting techniques of construction enterprises, thereby contributing to enhancing competitiveness and efficiency activities of construction enterprises in Vietnam.
