This paper investigates the problem of co-tier interference mitigation for dynamic small- cell networks, in which the load of each small-cell varies with the number of active associated small-cell users (SUs). Due to the fact that most small-cell base stations (SBSs) are deployed in an ad-hoc manner, the problem of reducing co-tier interference caused by dynamic loads in a distributed fashion is quite challenging. First, we propose a new distributed channel allocation method for small-cells with dynamic loads and define a dynamic interference graph. Based on this approach, we formulate the problem as a dynamic interference graph game and prove that the game is a potential game and has at least one pure strategy Nash equilibrium (NE) point. Moreover, we show that the best pure strategy NE point minimizes the expectation of the aggregate dynamic co-tier interference in the small-cell network. A distributed dynamic learning algorithm is then designed to achieve NE of the game, in which each SBS is unaware of the probability distributions of its own and other SBSs' dynamic loads. Simulation results show that the proposed approach can mitigate dynamic co-tier interference effectively and significantly outperform random channel selection.

Nowadays, the multihomed host equipped with multiple network interfaces has been interested research in next generation wireless network, because the mobile users expect that they can be able to access services not only anywhere, at any time and from any network but also simultaneously. This paper addresses the mobility simulation model of the multihomed node for supporting MIPv4 and MIPv6 function in an interworking of Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and IEEE 802.11 WLAN. The multihomed node with two air interfaces has been developed based on WiMAX and WLAN workstation node model in simulation software. The main point of the developed model is to support both MIPv4 and MIPv6 function, and provide network selection policy for the multihomed node between WiMAX and WLAN network. Based on the received Router Advertisement along with the interface number, we can manage the access interfaces in ordered list to make handover decision while the multihomed node is moving. In the end of this paper, the simulation scenarios and results are shown for testing MIPv4 and MIPv6 function.
Wi-Fi based vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication is an emerging solution to improve the safety, traffic efficiency, and comfort of passengers. However, due to the high mobility of vehicles and the limited coverage of Wi-Fi APs, the V2I system may suffer from frequent handoffs although roadside APs can support cost effective Internet connectivity. Such problem of V2I systems can be overcome with Mobile AP (MAP) platform. The MAPs yield longer service duration by moving along with vehicles, yet they provide a lower link capacities than the roadside APs. In this paper, we propose a new association control mechanism that effectively determines whether the vehicle will select a fixed roadside-AP or a nearby MAP in mobile vehicular network environments. We consider both the achievable link bandwidth and available connection duration as a selection criterion and provide their run-time estimation method. Extensive simulation using real traces show significant performance improvements.

Recently, an RSSI-based fingerprinting localization technology has been widely used in indoor location-based services. In the conventional fingerprinting method, as many APs as possible are used to increase the accuracy of location estimation. In another study, a part of APs having the strongest RSSI signal intensity are selected and used to reduce the time spent for positioning. However, it does not reflect the influence of RSSI occurred from the changes of the surrounding environments such as human movement or moving obstacles in a real environment. The environmental changes may cause the difference between the predicted RSSI signal strength value and the measured value, and thus occur an unpredictable error in the position estimation. Therefore, in order to mitigate the error caused by environmental factors, it is necessary to select APs suitable for indoor positioning estimation considering the changes in the surrounding environments. In this paper, we propose a method to select stable APs considering the influence of surrounding environments and derive a suitable positioning algorithm. In addition, we compare and analyze the performance of the proposed method with that of the existing AP selection methods through experiments.

On multimedia databases, in order to realize the fast access method, indexing methods for the multidimension data space are used. However, since it is a premise to use the Euclid distance as the distance measure, this method lacks in flexibility. On the other hand, there are metric indexing methods which require only to satisfy distance axiom. Since metric indexing methods can also apply for distance measures other than the Euclid distance, these methods have high flexibility. This paper proposes an improved method of VP-tree which is one of the metric indexing methods. VP-tree follows the node which suits the search range from a route node at searching. And distances between a query and all objects linked from the leaf node which finally arrived are computed, and it investigates whether each object is contained in the search range. However, search speed will become slow if the number of distance calculations in a leaf node increases. Therefore, we paid attention to the candidates selection method using the triangular inequality in a leaf node. As the improved methods, we propose a method to use the nearest neighbor object point for the query as the datum point of the triangular inequality. It becomes possible to make the search range smaller and to cut down the number of times of distance calculation by these improved methods. From evaluation experiments using 10,000 image data, it was found that our proposed method could cut 5%~12% of search time of the traditional method.

Relay technology is becoming more important for mobile communications and wireless internet of things (IoT) networking because of the extended access network coverage range and reliable quality of service (QoS) it can provide at low power consumption levels. Existing mobile multihop relay (MMR) technology uses fixed-point stationary relay stations (RSs) and a divided time-frame (or frequency-band) to support the relay operation. This approach has limitations when a local fixed-point stationary RS does not exist. In addition, since the time-frame (or frequency-band) channel resources are pre-divided for the relay operation, there is no way to achieve high channel utilization using intelligent opportunistic techniques. In this paper, a different approach is considered, where the use of mobile/IoT devices as RSs is considered. In applications that use mobile/IoT devices as relay systems, due to the very limited battery energy of a mobile/IoT device and unequal channel conditions to and from the RS, both minimum energy consumption and QoS support must be considered simultaneously in the selection and configuration of RSs. Therefore, in this paper, a mobile RS is selected and configured with the objective of minimizing power consumption while satisfying end-to-end data rate and bit error rate (BER) requirements. For the RS, both downlink (DL) to the destination system (DS) (i.e., IoT device or user equipment (UE)) and uplink (UL) to the base station (BS) need to be adaptively configured (using adaptive modulation and power control) to minimize power consumption while satisfying the end-to-end QoS constraints. This paper proposes a minimum transmission power consuming RS selection and configuration (MPRSC) scheme, where the RS uses cognitive radio (CR) sub-channels when communicating with the DS, and therefore the scheme is named MPRSC-CR. The proposed MPRSC-CR scheme is activated when a DS moves out of the BS's QoS supportive coverage range. In this case, data transmissions between the RS and BS use the assigned primary channel that the DS had been using, and data transmissions between the RS and DS use CR sub-channels. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed MPRSC-CR scheme extends the coverage range of the BS and minimizes the power consumption of the RS through optimal selection and configuration of a RS.
This study was aimed to investigate the current status and expectations of orphan drugs in Korea. The Korea Orphan Drug Center was established to supply many medicines for the patients with rare diseases. Among the medicines supplied by the Center, the number designated as the orphan drugs by the KFDA is quite few. However, a few of medicines are not under circulation even if the items are designated as the orphan drugs. Neoplasm-related medicines, infectious and parasitic disease-related medicines, endocrine, nutritional and metabolic disease-related medicines are the ones circulated most. There are several unapproved drugs among the medicines supplied by the Center. It's because the director of the Center can import the goods without a process to getting an approval from the KFDA. The Korea Orphan Drug Center has contributed to the selection of the medicines for treating the rare disease. On the contrary, some problems remain in the supply process. The safety and effectiveness of the medicines supplied by the Center are not guaranteed. So far, rare diseases have no specific legal definition, and therefore are only referred to in terms of the population of patients, which prevent from establishing the range of medicines. The introduction of Special Access Program or Access to Unapproved Therapeutic Goods will be the solution of these problems. In addition, it is another solution to keep intimate relations with the Rare and Intractable Disease Center and the Medicine Safety Information Center which will be open soon.

In this paper, we investigate the system performance of a cooperative relaying system of Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) with successive interference cancellation (SIC), which is considered promising application in fifth generation (5G) cellular networks. Previous studies have focused on the selected relays, however we include the maxmin relay selection and derive analytical outage probability of opportunistic incremental relaying systems. For the realistic mobile environment, the distributions of relays are modeled as a homogeneous Poisson point process (PPP). And maximal ratio combining (MRC) is adapted to improve the system performance at the destination node. Analytical results demonstrate the outage probability improves with the near/far user power ratio, and the cooperative relaying scheme can achieve low outage probability in comparison to the no relaying scheme. It is also conformed that the increase of the intensity of PPP cause higher gains of the spacial diversity and hence the performance improves.
Many studies have investigated the smart grid architecture and communication models in the past few years. However, the communication model and architecture for a smart grid still remain unclear. Today's electric power distribution is very complex and maladapted because of the lack of efficient and cost-effective energy generation, distribution, and consumption management systems. A wireless smart grid communication system can play an important role in achieving these goals. In this paper, we describe a smart grid communication architecture in which we merge customers and distributors into a single domain. In the proposed architecture, all the home area networks, neighborhood area networks, and local electrical equipment form a local wireless mesh network (LWMN). Each device or meter can act as a source, router, or relay. The data generated in any node (device/meter) reaches the data collector via other nodes. The data collector transmits this data via the access point of a wide area network (WAN). Finally, data is transferred to the service provider or to the control center of the smart grid. We propose a wireless cooperative communication model for the LWMN.We deploy a limited number of smart relays to improve the performance of the network. A novel relay selection mechanism is also proposed to reduce the relay selection overhead. Simulation results show that our cooperative smart grid (coopSG) communication model improves the end-to-end packet delivery latency, throughput, and energy efficiency over both the Wang et al. and Niyato et al. models.

In this paper, we carried out a study on how to find an appropriate helper node for cooperative communications, the role of which is very import to enhance system throughput of wireless communication system. The busy tone cooperative MAC (BT-COMAC) protocol proposed in this paper is a new cooperative MAC protocol with a reactive helper node scheme and maximizes the benefits of existing schemes while making up for their shortcomings. We conducted performance evaluation of this new protocol using computer simulation experiment. System throughput in bps and channel access delay are utilized as performance measures. We used a random way point mobility model where every communication node moves independently one another, and slow fading channel where every communication node decided its transmission rate with received power basis. Numerical results show that the new MAC protocol enhances system throughput as much as 15% of the existing scheme.
