A Study on Balanced-Type Oscillating Mole Drainer (II) (Model Test For Vibration) (평형식진동탄환암거천공기의 연구(II) -모수실험 : 진동에 대하여-)

  • 1. When the frame of the experimental apparatus was directly fixed on the platform, result from the spectrum density analysis showed that the generated vibration frequecy of the system was nearly-same as the system's own characteristic vibration frequency, 80Hz, in the case of the forcing vibration frequency was 7.5 to 22.5Hz. The reduction ratio of acceleration by balanced type model compare to non-balanced type one was 26.66 percent. 2. When the frame of experimental apparatus was fixed on the platform with putting a shock absorbing rubber between the frame and the platform, the generated vibration frequency of the system was same as forcing vibration frequency. When either frequency or the amplitude of the forcing vibration was increased, the acceleration ratio was increased too. The average reduction ratio was resulted 44.77 per cent. It was concluded that this method of acceleration measurement(the method using a shock absorbing rubber) was a reaonable method, because actual machine will work under such condition. As the vibration frequency and aptitude were increased, the absolute magnitude of acceleration was increased. 3. unbalanced rotating parts, and unbalanced moment of inertia of links were supposed to be causing factors of residual vibration in spite of using the balanced type oscillating mole drainer. This fact suggested that the attachment of the counter weight on the rotating parts which satisfy the condition mw$.$rw=m0e, was necessary. And also, it was expected that the shock absorbing effect could be improved by putting the shock absorbing materials between the moving parts and their supports.

Construction of 3-Axis Flux-gate Magnetometer for Attitude Control of Satellite (인공위성의 자세제어용 3-축 Flux-gate 마그네토미터 제작)

  • In this work, we have constructed 3-axis flux-gate magnetometer for the attitude control of satellite. The constructed magnetometer shows uncertainty of ${\pm}1%$, noise level of $0.2nT/\sqrt{Hz}$ at 1 Hz under 1W power consumption. Environment test for satellite component, acceleration test and thermal cycle test were carried out. For the acceleration test, magnetometer was vibrated frequency ranging from 10 Hz to 1 kHz at 15 g (g : gravitational acceleration at earth), and for thermal cycle test, 4 times of thermal cycle were carried out temperature ranging from $-55^{\circ}C\;to\;+80^{\circ}C$ under vacuum of $1x10^{-6}Torr$.

  • The paper presents a new short-term dynamic displacement estimation method based on an acceleration and a geophone sensor. The proposed method combines acceleration and velocity measurements through a real time data fusion algorithm based on Kalman filter. The proposed method can estimate the displacement of a structure without displacement sensors, which is typically difficult to be applied to earthquake or fire sites due to their requirement of a fixed rigid support. The proposed method double-integrates the acceleration measurement recursively, and corrects an accumulated integration error based on the velocity measurement, The performance of the proposed method was verified by a lab-scale test, in which displacement estimated by the proposed method are compared to a reference displacement measured by laser doppler vibrometer (LDV).

A Study on the Methodology for Determining Dynamic Loadings of Automotive Suspension System Using Measurement and Modeling

  • To design suspension system and estimate its durability , the loading history of each suspension part exposed to various operation conditions should be known from either measurement or computations. Based on these results, stress analysis is carried out to obtain the optimal shape and to reduce the production cost through the proper selection of manufacturing process. In this paper, first the measurement of 3-directional accelerations of wheel center using an accelerometer are undertaken from a vehicle running on Belgian road. Then the data measured from experiments are pre-processed with filtering . Based on the pre-processed data the methodology for determining the dynamic loading to each suspension part is developed by simply modeling the suspension system with ADAMS software. Eventually , it is expected that dynamic loadings can be used for the dynamic stress and fatigue analyses.

  • In this paper, we have obtained the acceleration coefficient of the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) to prove reliability by analyzing the characteristic of the MEMS IMU installed in guided weapon systems for overseas export and the operating environment of the guided weapon system. Additionally, based on designed life testing, we performed life tests on three the IMUs and demonstrated a target lifetime of 12 years.

Estimation of impact characteristics of RC slabs under sudden loading

  • Reinforced concrete (RC) slabs are exposed to several static and dynamic effects during their period of service. Accordingly, there are many studies focused on the behavior of RC slabs under these effects in the literature. However, impact loading which can be more effective than other loads is not considered in the design phase of RC slabs. This study aims to investigate the dynamic behavior of two-way RC slabs under sudden impact loading. For this purpose, 3 different simply supported slab specimens are manufactured. These specimens are tested under impact loading by using the drop test setup and necessary measurement devices such as accelerometers, dynamic load cell, LVDT and data-logger. Mass and drop height of the hammer are taken constant during experimental study. It is seen that rigidity of the specimens effect experimental results. While acceleration values increase, displacement values decrease as the sizes of the specimens have bigger values. In the numerical part of the study, artificial neural networks (ANN) analysis is utilized. ANN analysis is used to model different physical dynamic processes depending upon the experimental variables. Maximum acceleration and displacement values are predicted by ANN analysis. Experimental and numerical values are compared and it is found out that proposed ANN model has yielded consistent results in the estimation of experimental values of the test specimens.

  • The paper describes an application of unscented Kalman filter(UKF) for attitude estimation of an unmanned vehicle(UV), which is equipped with a low-cost attitude heading reference system (AHRS). The roll, pitch and yaw required at the correction stage of the UKF are calculated from the measurements of acceleration and geomagnetic field. The roll and pitch are attributed to the measurement of acceleration, while yaw is calculated from the geomagnetic field measurement. Since the measurement of geomagnetic field is vulnerable to distortion by hard-iron and soft-iron effects, the calculated yaw has more uncertainty than the calculated roll and pitch. To reduce the uncertainty of geomagnetic field measurement, the proposed method estimates bias in the geomagnetic field measurement and compensates for the bias for more accurate calculation of yaw. The proposed method is verified through navigation experiments of a UV in a test pool. The results show that the proposed method yields more accurate attitude estimation; thus, it results more accurate location estimation.

  • One of the main factors related to the deterioration of estimation accuracy in inertial measurement unit (IMU)-based orientation determination is the object's acceleration. This is because accelerometer signals under accelerated motion conditions cannot be longer reference vectors along the vertical axis. In order to deal with this issue, some orientation estimation algorithms adopt acceleration-compensating mechanisms. Such mechanisms include the simple switching techniques, mechanisms with adaptive estimation of acceleration, and acceleration model-based mechanisms. This paper compares these three mechanisms in terms of estimation accuracy. From experimental results under accelerated dynamic conditions, the following can be concluded. (1) A compensating mechanism is essential for an estimation algorithm to maintain accuracy under accelerated conditions. (2) Although the simple switching mechanism is effective to some extent, the other two mechanisms showed much higher accuracies, particularly when test conditions were severe.

  • The nearest variety of the industrial world requires using the high precision and resolution positioning technology to do a semi-conductor, information field , and measurement field. It is especially important for the positioning technology that makes up a proper controller, is affected by the minimal heat and vibration, and can control a structurally generated non-linear friction factor to determine the efficiency of the system. The paper is to analyze the vibration characteristic according to the speed of linear motor and grasp the dynamic characteristic through the modal test and show the verification of the experimental result and design parameters by using FEM(Finite Element Method). Also, it shows the optimum standard analyzed the acceleration patterns of the moving part that lead to the vibration source in linear motor. It presents the analyzed dynamic of linear motor in compliance with a change of the non-linear factor.

  • By the examination of data collected by long-term measuring system on high-speed railway bridges, it has been known that the atmospheric temperature may affect the responses of maximum deflection and acceleration of bridge deck. Collected data show a tendency by seasonal factor to that, by the decrease of temperature, the response of acceleration of bridge deck increases, and the response of deflection decreases. To trace the cause of this tendency, parametric analysis on the stiffness of bridge bearing and track ballast has been performed, and the in-site measurement has been achieved in high-speed railway line to understand seasonal influences.
