  • This study aims to examine the effects of academic procrastination in middle school students on their academic achievement. It also analyzed the influences of stress level recognized by middle school students on their academic achievement. First, it examined theoretical and preceding studies and assumed that sub-factors of academic procrastination in middle school students such as behavioral, cognitive and emotional factors affected their academic achievement. It was assumed that the middle school students' stress had the direct mediating effects on their academic achievement. As a result of the research, it was found that sub-factors of academic procrastination in middle school students such as behavioral, cognitive and emotional factors had partially direct influence on their stress and academic achievement. It was shown that the analysis of mediating effects from middle school students' stress had no influence on the academic achievement. This study presented policy suggestions of academic achievement in middle school students as an alternative based on the research results.

  • This study examined academic achievement of children in female marriage immigrant families (MIF) and children in general families (GF). Subjects were 78 MIF and 82 GF children recruited from Chungcheong and Jeolla provinces. Academic achievement was determined by questionnaires completed by their teachers; intelligence was measured with standardized intelligence tests. Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA and ANCOVA. Results showed that (1) academic achievement of MIF children was lower than that of GF children in overall academic achievement and individual subject achievement. (2) The difference in academic achievement between the two groups remained after controlling for intelligence. Results of this study illustrate the urgent need for supportive policy to enhance the academic achievement of MIF children.

  • The purposes of this study were to measure university academic achievement based on gender. We analyzed university academic achievement based on gender. The subjects for this analysis were 322 students from freshmen to seniors who received grades in their first semester in the computer engineering department at a university located in the Chungcheong area. The major findings of this study were as follows. First, the average university academic achievement was 3.01. Second, the university academic achievement of female students was higher than that of male students in the entire curriculum, liberal arts, and major subjects. Students showed higher academic achievement when their grades rose. Male students showed higher rate of rise when their grades rose compared to female students. This paper proposes that it is necessary to develop programs to further adaption to university life for males. Since male students showed significantly lower university academic achievement, various programs like counseling and mentoring are needed.

J. was modified for applying to university students and performed with 399 university students from three universities in Daejeon and Chungnam. Statistical analysis done in this study were ANOVA and Scheffe's test. Findings of the study are as follows : First, the students with high academic achievements have intuitive perception type, whole processing type, and deep storage & recall type. Secondly, the students with low academic achievement have strong non-academic learning type. Third, interaction attitude of affective learning styles is the important element to determine their academic achievement. The students with independent type get high academic achievements. Therefore, instructor should consider the learning styles of students, and it should be used to improve their teaching & learning strategy for better academic achievements of university students.

  • Causal relationships between school maladjustment and related variables were examined in 371 5th grade elementary school students. School maladjustment was ascertained by revised the School Adjustment Test(Lim, 1993; Song, 1999). After analysis of differences in internal locus of control, academic stress, and academic achievement between the school maladjusted and adjusted groups, the study built a structural equation model of school maladjustment-related variables goodness of fit was tested with LISREL 8 for Windows. Significant differences were found in internal locus of control, academic stress, and academic achievement by level of school maladjustment. Internal locus of control, academic stress, and academic achievement both directly and/or indirectly influenced school maladjustment. These variables explained 64% of the variances in school maladjustment.

  • This research analyzed procedural problems presented in academic writing faced by international students. The result of this research will serve as a basis for suggesting methods of developing a curriculum in Korean writing as a liberal arts education designed for international students. To analyze problems presented in academic writing by international students, the standard of assessment was divided into interaction, knowledge construction, and material quotation. Then, knowledge construction was divided into contents, structure, and expression, and the items were subdivided in each category. These categories of assessment correspond to the genre of academic writing and are different from the existing standard of assessment for academic writing. Applying these standards, this research analyzed 43 texts of academic writing in process for a final paper by international students in an class and presented problems in them. Furthermore, this paper aims to give detailed feedback that can help solve those problems.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of academic procrastination behavior on the relationship between academic stress and dropout intention. The research questions are First, does the academic stress of college students influence the intention to drop out? Second, does academic procrastination behavior the relationship between academic stress and dropout intention? A survey was conducted on 218 college students about academic stress, dropout intention, and academic procrastination behavior. Correlation analysis was conducted to find out the relationship between academic stress, dropout, and academic procrastination behavior, and Multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the moderating effect of academic procrastination behavior. The mediating effect was verified using Baron and Kenny's procedure, and the significance was verified by Sobel verification. The results are as follows: First, academic stress, dropout intention, and academic delay behavior showed significant positive correlations.. Second, Academic stress showed 15% of explanatory power as an influential factor on dropout intention, and 5% of explanatory power was an influential factor on academic procrastination behavior. Third, the through mediation analysis, there was partial mediated effects of academic procrastination behavior between academic stress and dropout intention. Our findings suggest that to improve the dropout intention among college students, educators should carefully design and develop an education program
