  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate how two types of cooperative groupworks will affect learners' academic self-efficacy and English achievement in the first graders of Middle school. Experimental class A was done by similar-level groupwork, experimental class B by differential-level groupwork, and controlled class C by whole classwork. In order to accomplish the goals of the study, questionnaires on learners' academic self-efficacy were examined before and after the experiment. Also English achievement tests were done during the experiment. The analytic results of the questionnaires and English achievement tests were like the following conclusions: First, two types of cooperative groupworks were more effective on improving learners' academic self-efficacy than the whole classwork. Second, two types of cooperative groupworks were more effective on improving two levels' (higher and medium) academic self-efficacy. Third, among three types of classworks, differential-level groupwork was the most effective on improving learners' English achievement. Fourth, in case of medium-level learners, differential-level groupwork was more effective on improving their English achievement than similar-level groupwork.

  • The main purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of the hours spent on book-reading on the relationship between academic achievement and the Key Competency of Acting Autonomously. This study utilized data from the 'Korean Assessment of the Key Competencies of Youth in 2009', which was conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute. The participants were 2,781 elementary school students, 2,770 middle school students and 3,599 high school students who were selected from 12 areas of Korea. The data was analyzed by means of Pearson's correlation coefficients and also through linear regression analysis. The results indicated that 1) academic achievement and the hours spent in book-reading was positively correlated to the competency of acting autonomously, 2) the effect of academic achievement on the competency of acting autonomously was partially mediated by the hours spent in book-reading, 3) and the mediating effect was the most influential when it came to elementary students, followed next by middle school and then finally high school students.

  • The purpose of this corpus-based study was to find 4-word lexical bundles in computer science research articles. As the demand for research articles (RAs) for international publication increases, the need for acquiring field-specific writing conventions for this academic genre has become a burning issue. Particularly, one area of burgeoning interest in the examination of rhetorical structures and linguistic features of RAs is the use of lexical bundles, the indispensable building blocks that make up an academic discourse. To illustrate, different academic discourses rely on distinctive repertoires of lexical bundles. Because lexical bundles are often acquired as a whole, the recurring multi-word sequences can be retrieved automatically to make written discourse more fluent and natural. Therefore, the proper use of rhetorical devices specific to a particular discipline can be a vital indicator of success within the discourse communities. Hence, to identify linguistic features that make up specific registers, this corpus-based study examines the types and usage frequency of lexical bundles in the discipline of CS, one of the most in-demand fields world over. Given that lexical bundles are empirically-derived formulaic multi-word units, identifying core lexical bundles used in RAs, they may provide insights into the specificity of particular CS text types. This will in turn provide empirical evidence of register specificity and technicality within the academic discourse of computer science. As in the results, pedagogical implications and suggestions for future research are discussed.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to confirm the association between self-determination and self-directed learning among Korean nursing students, as well as the mediating effect of academic self-efficacy. Methods: Data from 139 nurse students were surveyed in this descriptive cross-sectional study. They were collected from Oct 1 to 30, 2020, using self-report questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis, and mediated model for PROCESS macro using the SPSS/WIN 24.0. Results: Self-directed learning was positively associated with self-determination (r=.56, p<.001) and academic self-efficacy (r=.63, p<.001). Furthermore, academic self-efficacy had a mediating effect on the relationship between self-determination and self-directed learning (B=0.21, 95% CI=0.12~0.32). Conclusion: The impact of self-determination on the self-directed learning among nursing students was mediated by academic self-efficacy. Therefore, these results provide important data for future self-directed learning in nursing education.

  • The research aims to test the impact of marketing culture and rational decisions in academic entrepreneurship during entrepreneurial marketing by focusing on the main problem and the challenges that Iraqi private universities face. The most important of these challenges is probably the inability of the private universities to keep pace with the development and the environmental challenges. The researcher chose 26 private Iraqi universities/colleges for the study. The sample was taken from deans, assistant deans, and heads of departments, with 310 people distributed among the various colleges. The researcher used the electronic questionnaire as a tool for collecting information. Data analysis was based on the (SPSS) and (AMOS) programs. The researchers arrived at many conclusions. The most important finding was the impact on both the marketing culture and rational decision on academic entrepreneurship through entrepreneurial marketing. The higher administration in the Iraqi private universities/colleges always strive to adhere to the marketing values, norms and traditions through a commitment to rational decisions to achieve academic entrepreneurship. The higher administrators increase their commitment and adherence to this influence by adhering to marketing entrepreneurship.

  • To improve academic achievement, the most students not only participate in regular classes but also take various extra programs such as private lessons, private institutes, and educational TV programs. In this paper, we propose a data mining approach to identify which studying methods or usual life patterns during a school vacation affect changes in the academic achievement. First, we derive various studying methods and life patterns that are thought to be affecting changes in the academic achievement during a school vacation. Second, we propose the method of transforming and analyzing data to apply them to decision trees and association rules, which are representative data mining techniques. Third, we construct decision trees and find association rules from the real survey data of middle school students. We have discovered four representative results from the decision trees. First, for students in the higher rank, there is a tendency that private institutes give a positive effect on the academic achievement. Second, for the most students, the Internet teaming sites nay give a negative effect on the achievement. Third, private lessons that have thought to be making a large impact to the achievement, however, do not make a positive effect on the achievement. Fourth, taking several studying methods in parallel nay give a negative effect on the achievement. In association rules, however, we cannot find any meaningful relationships between academic achievement and usual life patterns during a school vacation. We believe that our approach will be very helpful for teachers and parents to give a good direction both in preparing a studying plan and in selecting studying methods during a school vacation.

  • The utility and accuracy of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) has evolved greatly following the recent development of new devices for neurophysiological testing and advances in anesthesiology. Until recently, the need for IONM services has been limited to large academic hospitals, but the demand for neurophysiologists with expertise in IONM has grown rapidly across diverse types of hospital. The primary goal of the Korean Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (KSION) is to promote the development of IONM research groups and to contribute to the improvement of fellowship among members and human health through academic projects. These guidelines are based on extensive literature reviews, recruitment of expert opinions, and consensus among KSION board members. This version of the guidelines was fully approved by the KSION, Korean Association of EMG Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the Korean Society of Clinical Neurophysiology, the Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Korean Neurological Association.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate engineering students' attitude toward convergence and relevance with engineering education accreditation, gender, and academic year and attitude toward convergence. To be specific, fist, we examined whether the instrument for measuring attitudes toward convergence were reliable and valid for engineering students. Second, we compared levels of attitudes toward convergence in terms of engineering education accreditation, gender and academic year. Third, latent classes, which were distinguished in terms of attitudes toward convergence, were identified. Participants were 2076 engineering students. By using factor analysis and Rasch analysis, validity and reliability of instrument measuring attitudes toward convergence were confirmed. The differences in attitude toward convergence in terms of engineering education accreditation experience, gender, and academic year were examined by independent t-test and ANOVA. There were significant differences in attitude towards convergence in terms of engineering education accreditation, gender, and academic year. Students who experience engineering education accreditation program and male and high academic year have higher levels of attitude toward convergence than others. Lastly latent class analysis (LCA) was conducted to identify subgroups underlying engineering students in terms of attitude toward convergence and five latent classes were identified. In addition, the chi-square results showed that there were significant relationships between identified latent classes and engineering education accreditation, gender, and academic year. Based on these results, engineering education considering students' characteristics and diversity in attitude toward convergence were discussed.
