Nutrient utilization and plasma level of minerals were studied in lactating crossbred cows fed diet supplemented from different source of minerals. Twelve crossbred cows of first to third lactation during their mid stage of lactation were distributed equally under two groups and were fed concentrate mixture, green fodder (para grass) and finger millet straw as per requirement. Cows in group I were fed concentrate mixture supplemented with 1% mineral mixture whereas cows in group II were not supplemented with mineral mixture in the concentrate mixture but were offered additional quantity of green fodder (1 kg DM/cow/day) to compensate for the requirement of minerals. Balance study conducted towards the end of 120 days of feeding experiment indicated that the total dry matter intake in both the groups did not differ significantly. The cows in group II offered additional quantity of green fodder consumed significantly (p<0.05) more of green fodder (5.11 vs. 4.51 kg /animal/day) and the cows in group I consumed significantly (p<0.01) more of finger millet straw (1.71 vs. 0.92 kg/animal/day). The digestibility of major nutrients did not differ between the groups except for ether extract which was significantly (p<0.05) lower in cows fed additional green fodder. The total daily intake of P, Cu, Fe and Co did not differ significantly in both the groups whereas significantly higher intakes of Ca, Mg, Zn and Mn were observed in cows supplemented with inorganic source of minerals. However, supplementation through both the sources could meet the mineral requirement in group I and group II. The gut absorption (%) of all the minerals was comparable between the groups except for Mg which was significantly (p<0.05) higher in cows supplemented mineral mixture. The net retention of all the minerals was significantly more in the group supplemented with inorganic source of minerals. Except for P, Mg and Co the retention as percentage of total intake was comparable for all minerals in both the groups. Irrespective of source of mineral supplementation the average monthly blood plasma mineral levels (Ca, P, Mg, Cu, Zn, Fe) were within the normal range and comparable between the groups. Lower level of Cu observed at the start of the experimental feeding in both the groups increased with the advancement of supplemental feeding. The plasma Zn and Fe content in cows of both the groups did not vary. The blood plasma level of some minerals (Ca, P, Mg and Cu) was significantly higher towards the end of experimental feeding as compared to the initial values due to the reduction in milk yield with advancement of lactation or due to supplemental effect of minerals. It could be concluded that supplementation of minerals through inorganic source is better utilized in terms of retention as compared to green fodder (para grass), which is a moderate source of most nutrients.
Activated oxidation catalysts are generated by the treatment of pentadentate Schiff base cobalt(Ⅱ) complexes with the oxygen saturated DMF solution. Oxidation of 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol by homogeneous oxidation catalysts of superoxo type pentadentate schiff base cobalt(Ⅲ) complexes yields 2,6-di-tert-butylbenzoquinone(BQ) as a major product. And $O_2$/Co mole ratio of homogeneous oxidative catalysts such as [Co(Ⅲ)(sal-DET)]$O_2$ and [Co(Ⅲ)(sal-DPT)]$O_2$by PVT method of the oxygen absorption in DMSO and pyridine solution was 1:1, 1:1.52 in DMF solution and ${\mu}$-peroxo type cobalt(Ⅲ) complexes formed at solid state. The redox reaction processes of superoxo type cobalt(Ⅲ) complexes as homogeneous oxidation catalysts were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and DPP method at a glassy carbon electrode. As a result of electrochemical measurements the reduction processes of oxygen adducted superoxo type cobalt(Ⅲ) complexes occurred to four steps including prewave of $O_2$-in 0.1M TEAP-DMSO and 0.1 M TEAP-Pyridine as supporting electrolyte solution.
The functional vice (Oryza sativa L.) has been highly regarded recently, in the change of rice maykets in the world. Goami2 (GA), one of the functional rice varieties, was developed from high-quality rice, Ilpumbyeo (IP). From the previous study, GA has been proved its beneficial effect on the improvement of metabolic control and body weight reduction especially in obesity, We could certain that GA was very difficult to be gelatinized due to the micro lump shown in the Scanning electron micrographs (SEM) photos. To improve its cooking quality, we investigated the changes of physicochemical properties, which were differentiated by the conditions of milling and blending. As GA was milled every $2\%$ until eliminating $12\%$, the nitrogen content was decreased linearly. But the decreasing rate of nitrogen content of GA during milling process was relatively lower than that of IP. Thus, we assumed that GA has relatively high nitrogen in inner starch of grain. The degree of milling had no effect on the gelatinization of cooked GA, but affected lightness and whiteness linearly, which were ranged in normal values when the rice was milled more than $10\%$ in weight. So we could concluded that the milling process was not proper to improve cooking quality of GA. And we could suggested that GA was needed to soak into water at least one hour before cooking by it water absorption rate at normal temperature$(21^{\circ}C)$ and sensory evaluation. From the texture analysis, cooked GA had higher hardness than other varieties. Therefore, we blended GA with IP, Baekjinju(BJ) and Hwasunchalbyeo(HS), then subjected to sensory evaluation. All evaluation items including the sensory preference were the highest scores for the rice blended with glutinous rice varieties, BJ and HS.

Analytic methods for Cr(VI) level in industrial hygienic field were suggested by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH method 7600, 7604). There were growing needs for measurement of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) levels simultaneously. Two analytical methods were suggested to determine Cr(III) and Cr(VI) levels simultaneously. The one is method by using reversed phase high peformance liquid chromatography(HPLC) and the other is by using ion exchange HPLC. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the usefulness of these two analytic methods. For the difference of ionic charges of Cr(III)-ethylendiamine tetraacetic acid(EDTA) chelate and $CrO_4{^-2}$, we could detect them simultaneously by ion exchange HPLC. Also, we attempted to determine the levels of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) chelated with sodium diethyldithiocarbamate(NaDDTC) by using reversed phase HPLC. The confirmation of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) were checked by fraction collector and nameless atomic absorption spectrometer. The optimal conditions for the formation of Cr(III)-EDTA chelate were two hours incubation period with pH 5. Cr(III)-EDTA and Cr(VI) in EDTA solution were successfully separated by anion exchange column using $Na_2CO_3/NaOH$ mixture as mobile phase. Peaks of Cr(III)-EDTA and Cr(VI) in EDTA were identified at 5 minutes and 7 minutes of retention time respectively by the ion exchange HPLC. The formation of Cr(III)-NaDDTC and Cr(VI)-NaDDTC chelates were twelve hours incubation period. Cr(III)-NaDDTC and Cr(VI)-NaDDTC chelates were separated by reversed phase column using methanol and water mixture as mobile phase. Peaks of Cr(VI)NaDDTC and Cr(III)-NaDDTC chelates were identified at 13 minutes and 26 minutes of retention time respectively by the reversed phase HPLC. Due to reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III), it seems to be not suitable for simultaneous determination of Cr(III)-NaDDTC and Cr(VI)-NaDDTC chelates by reversed phase HPLS. Simultaneos determination of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) by ion exchange HPLC was more accurate and simple method.

This study aimed to examine the harmful effects of Mn and Fe, which may be generated as dust or fume in the industrial sites, on the body and genital organs by their inhalation. It is intended to find the characteristics and differences of the hazardousness by inhaling a single and the mixed materials of Mn and Fe. Male F344 rats were divided into the control group and 3 exposed groups on the basis of the test material compound (Mn $1.5mg/m^3$, Mn 1.5 and Fe $3.0mg/m^3$, Fe $3.0mg/m^3$). The 4 groups were divided into 4 subgroups again on the basis of the exposure period (4 and 13 weeks) and the recovery period (4 and 13 weeks). The exposure condition was 6 hours a day, 5 days a week for the whole body. Clinical tests including changes in weight and feed rate, blood biochemical test, motility change, changes in the number and the amount of spermatozoon (sperm count), daily sperm production (DSP), deformity test of spermatozoon and changes in the accumulation of Mn and Fe in blood and internal organs were performed. Motility was reduced by Mn exposure. Especially, the effect of Mn was exposure period responsible. By mixing with Fe, no significant change in motility Mn and Fe accumulation in organs was observed. Sperm count and daily sperm production (DSP) were decreased by Mn. Additional effect like the reduction of sperm count and DSP, and delayed restoration of sperm count and DSP during the recovery period were observed in the mixed exposure group. These results indicate that Mn and Fe may affect the motility reduced and has male reproductive toxicity. Mixed exposure of Mn and Fe lead to synergic effects on the male reproductive toxicity.

The artificial aggregates (AAs) composing of 2 wastes, coal bottom ash and dredged soil (7 : 3, weight ratio) were fabricated as a function of red mud contents,0~30 wt% using direct sintering method at $1050{\sim}1250^{\circ}C$ for 10 min, and those physical properties were evaluated. Especially, in order to analyze the red mud addition effect on the bloating phenomenon of AAs manufactured, the specific gravity and water absorption were measured and studied linked with the microstructural observation results. The lightening of AAs was enhanced due to increased bloating with increasing temperature and red mud contents. The AAS sintered at $1050{\sim}1150^{\circ}C$ showed well-developed black-coring structure, but for the specimens containing red mud sintered over $1200^{\circ}C$ generated excessive liquid and gas caused by reduction of $Fe_2O_3$, thus the black-coring part was gradually burst open out of shell of AAs. Particularly, all specimens containing 30 wt% red mud was burst up when sintered over $1100^{\circ}C$. The AAs containing no red mud sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$ had a specific gravity of about 1.2 and those containing 20 wt% had below 1.0 which are characters of lightweight aggregate.

High performance steel for bridges requires higher performance in tensile and yield strength, toughness, weldability, etc. The purpose of this study is to investigate the weldability of HSB 600 steel. The effects of heat input (1.4~3.2kJ/mm) and postweld heat treatment (PWHT, $600^{\circ}C$, 40hr.) on the TMCP HSB600 steel weldments made by GMAW process were investigated. The tensile strength and hardness of as-welded specimens decreased with increasing heat input. Charpy V-notch impact energy did not show any significant difference by postweld heat treatment. The fine-grained acicular ferrite was mainly formed in the 2.1kJ/mm of heat input while polygonal and side plate ferrites were dominated in the high inputs. Meanwhile, tensile strength and hardness of PWHT weldments decreased due to the coarsening and globularization of ferrite microstructure and reduction of residual stresses with increasing heat inputs. However, there was no significant difference in the impact energy absorption.

In the agricultural sector, greenhouse gas emissions vary depending on the interaction of all ecosystem changes such as soil environment, weather environment, crop growth, and anthropogenic farming activities. Agricultural sector greenhouse gas emissions resulting from many of these interactions are highly variable. Uncertainty-based evaluation that defines the interval with confidence level of greenhouse gas emission and absorption is necessary to take account of the variance characteristics of individual emissions, but research on uncertainty evaluation method is insufficient. This study aims to decide on the effect of reducing N2O emissions from upland soils using an uncertainty-based approach. An uncertainty-based approach confirmed whether there was a difference between confidence intervals in the 5 different fertilizer treatment groups to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Unlike the statistically significant test with three repetition averages, the uncertainty-based approach method estimated in this study is able to estimate the confidence interval considering the distribution characteristics of the emissions, such as the dispersion characteristics of individual emissions. Therefore, it is considered that the reliability of emissions can be improved by statistically testing the variance characteristics of emissions such as the uncertainty-based approach. It is hoped that the direction of the uncertainty-based approach for the effect of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture will be helpful in the future development of agricultural greenhouse gas emission reduction technology, adaptation to climate change, and further development of sustainable eco-social system.
A low loss optical waveguide of $P_{2}O_{5}-SiO_{2}$on Si substrate is produced by using the chemical vapour deposition method of $SiO_2$ thin films used in Si technology. Propagation loss of the waveguide layer was 1.65 dB/cm as produced and reduced down to 0.1 dB/cm after heat treatment at $1100^{\circ}C$. By using laser lithography and reactive ion etching method $P_{2}O_{5}-SiO_{2}$ waveguide was produced and subsequently annealed at $1100^{\circ}C$.As a result of this annealing the shape of the waveguide core was changed from rectangular to semi-circular form, and the propagation loss was reduced as down to 0.03 dB/cm at 0.6328$\mu$m and 0.04dB/cm at 1.53$\mu$m. We think that the mechanism of the reduction in propagation loss during the heat treatment is the following: 1) The hydrogen bonding in waveguide layer, which causes absorption loss, is dissociated and diffused out. 2) The roughness of the interface and the micro-structure of the waveguide layer is removed. 3) The irregularities in the cross-sectional shape of the waveguide which was induced during the lithographic process were disappeared by flowing of the waveguide core.

Safety is one of the key issue in the regulation of cosmetics. Cosmetic Act deals with it in Korea. The guidance for the testing cosmetic ingredients and their safety evaluation are prepared by Korea Food and Drug Administration. Ultraviolet radiation could Induce skin damage, edema, erythema, photoaging, immune dysfunction and skin cancer. Ultraviolet radiation is classified as Group 2A(probably carcinogenic to humans) by International Agenry for Reaserch on Cancer(IARC). The in vitro methodologies for evaluating the toxic potential of ingredients reported in the literature have not yet been sufficiently validated for use in areas other than the study for mutagenicity/genotoxicity, for pre-screening for severe irritancy, for screening of phototoxicity and for evaluating the percutaneous absorption. The 3T3 neutral red uptake photoxicity test (3T3 NRU PT) was accepted as OECD toxicity guideline in 2002. The 3T3 NRU PT is an in vitro method based on a comparison of the cytotoxicitv of a chemical when tested in the presence and in the absence of exposure to a non-cytotoxic dose of UVA/visible light.
