This study was performed to evaluate strength and watertightness properties of EVA modified high strength concrete in order to improve durability of concrete used in agricultural water utilization facilities that are in constant contact with water. Materials used were cement, coarse and fine aggregates, silica fume, EVA and AE water reducing agent. Tests for the slump, compressive and flexural strengths, absorption ratio and permeability coefficient according to curing condition (water and water+dry curing) and content ratio of EVA were performed. The slump results of EVA modified high strength concrete similarly showed in the content ratio of EVA powder less than 4% and decreased in the content ratio of EVA powder more than 6% compared to that of concrete without EVA powder. The compressive strength of EVA modified high strength concrete decreased with increasing the content ratio of EVA powder. The flexural strength of EVA modified high strength concrete increased with increasing the content ratio of EVA powder in the content ratio of EVA powder ratio less than 4% and had similar or slightly decreased in the content ratio of EVA powder more than 6% compared to that of concrete without EVA powder. The absorption ratio and permeability coefficient of EVA modified high strength concrete decreased with increasing the content ratio of EVA powder in the content ratio of EVA powder less than 4% and slightly increased in the content ratio of EVA powder more than 6%.
Porphyrins generally bind DNA in two different ways with respect to the mixing ratio; monomeric binding at a low mixing ratio and outside stacking at a high mixing ratio. In the present study, CTDNA binding property of a planar structured porphyrin, 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(N-methyl-4-pyridin-4-yl-phenyl)porphyrin (referred to as B-TMPyP) was investigated using absorption, CD, LD, and $LD^r$ spectroscopies. B-TMPyP produced a bisignate CD band, even at the lowest mixing ratio, indicating that B-TMPyP may not have a monomeric binding mode. From the observations of the spectral changes to the absorption, CD, and LD spectra in mixing ratio dependent titrations, B-TMPyP seems to have a quite different stacking type compared to that for the binding of $H_2$TMPyP. Moreover, B-TMPyP produced a CD band of opposite shape in the Soret band region. A qualitative explanation for the observed optical differences is also given.

Recently, as interest in environmental issues increases, minimizing carbon dioxide generated during cement manufacturing is a problem to be solved. In order to solve such a problem, it is required to use an industrial by-product of recycled aggregate, blast furnace slag, and circulating fluidized bed boiler fly ash to replace it on the basis of geopolymer(=cementless). This study examines the characteristics of eco-friendly artificial stone according to the mixing ratio of geopolymer-based recycled aggregate. As a result of the experiment, when the addition rate of the alkali stimulant was 15% and the mixing ratio of the circulating aggregate was 70%, the flexural strength and compressive strength were the highest. Density and water absorption decreased as density of circulating aggregates increased and water absorption increased. However, when the mixing ratio of the circulating aggregate exceeded 70%, the flexural strength and compressive strength decreased. Therefore, in order to obtain strengths meeting the KS standards, the mixing ratio of recycled aggregate was set to 70%, and artificial stone was manufactured using industrial by-products.
Nineteen japonica and Tongil-type rices were selected from seventy nine Korean and Japanese rice cultivars grown in 1989 based on the water uptake behavior of milled rice under the room temperature and boiling conditions. The selected rice cultivars were investigated for water absorbability and some physicochemical characteristics of milled rice, proper water amount for cooking and sensory evaluation of cooked rice. The relationships among the tested grain properties were also examined. The highest varietal variation of water uptake rate was observed at twenty minutes after soaking in water. The maximum water uptake of milled rices at room temperature occurred mostly at about eighty minutes after soaking in water. Newly harvested rices showed a significantly lower water uptake rate of milled rice at 20 minutes after soaking, a relatively higher maximum water absorption ratio under the room temperature, and the less water uptake and volume expansion of boiled rice compared with the one-year old rice samples. The water uptake rate and the maximum water absorption ratio showed significantly negative correlations with the K/Mg ratio and alkali digestion value(ADV) of milled rice. The rice materials showing the higher amount of hot water absorption exhibited the larger volume expansion of cooked rice. The harder rices with lower moisture content revealed the higher rate of water uptake at twenty minutes after soaking and the higher ratio of maximum water uptake under the room temperature condition. These water uptake characteristics were not associated with the protein and amylose contents of milled rice ansd the palatability of cooked rice. The water/rice ratio(in w/w basis) for optimum cooking was averaged to 1.52 in dry milled rices (12% wet basis) with varietal range from 1.45 to 1.61 and the expansion ratio of milled rice after proper boiling was averaged to 2.63(in v/v basis). The water amount needed for optimum cooking was the lowest in Cheongcheongbyeo (Tongil-type rice) and the highest in Jinbubyeo, and the amount could be estimated with about 70% fittness by the multiple regression formula based on some water uptake characteristics, ADV and amylose content of milled rice as the independent variables. Nineteen rice cultivars were classified into seven groups based on scatter diagram projected by principal component analysis using eight properties related to water uptake and gelatinization of milled rice.
Film absorption involves simultaneous heat and mass transfer in the gas-liquid system. While the non-absorbable gas does not participate directly In the absorption process. its pretence does affect the overall heat and mass transfer. An experimental study was performed to investigate the heat and mass transfer characteristics of LiBr-H$_2$O solution flow ing over 6-row horizontal tubes with the water vapor absorption in the pretence of non-absorbable gases. The volumetric concentration of non-absorbable gas, air, was varied from 0.17 to 10.0%. The combined effects of the solution flow rate and its concentration on the heat and mass transfer coefficients were also examined. The presence of 2% volumetric concentration of air resulted in a 25% reduction in the Nusselt number and 41% reduction in the Sherwood number Optimum film Reynolds number was found to exist at which the heat and mass transfer reach their maximum value independent of air contents. Reduced Nusselt and Sherwood numbers. defined as the ratio of Nusselt and Sherwood numbers at given non-absorbable gas content to that with pure water vapor, were correlated to account for the reduction in the heat and mass transfer due to non-absorbable gases in a falling film absorption process.

The purpose of this study is to develop a sound absorbing material for indoor which manufactured by a clay and binding material. The seven kind of sound absorbing specimens which sintered through a mold process at high temperature were manufactured for the purpose of testing sound absorption performance. The random and normal sound absorption coefficients were measured for the sintered clay sound absorbing specimens with different particle size, density and mixture ratio. From the experimental results, it was found that its particle size was closely related to the sound absorption performance. It was shown that the sintered clay sound absorbing specimen had the sound absorption properties of a fiber-type or a resonance-type sound absorbing material depending on the particle size.
Optical profile and spectral absorption of suspended solids in waters of Sanya bay was measured on August 8-14, 2003. Optical profile was taken by using MicroPro optical profile. Apparent optical indexes, vertical diffuse attenuation coefficient ($K_d$) and water leaving radiance (Lw), were calculated. $K_d$ at the blue end of the spectrum was greater than that at the red end of the spectrum in waters near Sanya River mouth, however, in waters near open sea, $K_d$ at the blue end of the spectrum was smaller than that at the red end of the spectrum. Distribution of water leaving radiance was relatively higher in waters near Sanya River mouth, but relatively weaker in near open sea water. Spectral absorption of suspended particulates was also measured. Results showed that the spectral absorption of chlorophyll a was greater in waters near Sanya river mouth, but relatively weaker in waters near open sea, which indicated higher concentration of phytoplankton in waters near Sanya river mouth. Except for water at the 5th sampling station, the ratio of spectral absorption of chlorophyll a to total suspended particulates in surface waters was greater than that in bottom waters at all stations.

The use of highly absorptive materials in cement-based materials is increasing for internal curing purpose. However, calculation of correct absorption capacity of such materials is not easy, which leads to change in the effective water-to-cement ratio of cement paste by either absorbing or releasing water. In this study, effective absorption capacity of a highly absorptive material was found using isothermal calorimetry. Moreover, the effect of specific surface area was investigated. It was found that the method was capable of finding effective water absorption capacity of activated carbon fiber. For the activated carbon fiber used in this research, the effect of specific surface area was negligible because the high BET surface area was due to micropores less than 1nm, which does not affect the rate of hydration curve. Thus, the effective absorption capacity of such materials can be found successfully using this method.

In this paper, we present the properties of water absorption of elastic epoxy for high voltage. The ratio of water absorption shows linearly increase according to ${\sqrt}t$ till 66 hours. And rigid epoxy is 0.053 [%], elastic epoxy at addictives 35 [phr] is 0.309 and it at addictives 70 [phr] is 0.44 [%]. The reason where absorption of elastic epoxy is high is because of micro void. It can be confirmed by SEM analysis. Dieletric constant increased linearly by addictives' concentration and tans is also increased by addictives' concentration.

CFRP composites with light weight, high strength, and high elasticity by comparing with metal are widely used rather than previous steel plates. However, CFRP composite material has the weakness at hydrothermal and collapsed impact environment. Especially, moisture absorption into composite material can change molecule arrangement and chemical properties under hydrothermal environment. And static collapse experiment is the research in the differences of absorbed energy and deformation mode between moisture and non-moisture absorbed specimens. This study is compared and analyzed on the progress change of moisture absorption ratio after setting up the temperatures of 60 and 80 degrees C in order to comprehend how the change in the temperature influences on moisture absorption status inside CFRP composite materials.
