당대(當代) 중국(中國)의 전통문화(傳統文化) 복원운동(復原運動)의 철학적 함의와 그 전망 (The Philosophical Significance of Contemporary China's Reconstruction Movement of the Traditional Thought and Culture and its Future)

  • 중국 대륙에서 전통문화(傳統文化)와 사상(思想)은 근 100여년의 시간동안 역사의 격변을 거치면서 타도의 대상에서 계승해야할 유산(遺産)으로 탈바꿈 되었다. 오늘날 중국 정부와 학계, 민간에서는 빈부격차, 가치관의 부재, 정신적 의지처의 상실 등 경제발전이 남긴 부작용을 유학(儒學)을 중심으로 한 전통사상과 문화의 복원을 통해 해결하고자 한다. 중국 정부는 표면적으로는 사회주의 이론체계들을 고수하면서도 유학(儒學)을 이용하여 사회적 안정과 통합을 도모하고 지속적인 경제성장을 이룰 수 있는 버팀목으로 삼고자 한다. 민간의 경우 경제발전을 통해 민족적 자신감을 회복하게 되자 전통문화 복원과 선전을 통해 민족적 자부심을 고취하고 중국문화를 세계에 선양하려는 노력이 이루어지고 있다. 특히 전통문화와 사상의 복원을 주장하는 학자들은 전통 속에서 문화적 통일성과 정신적 안식처 그리고 새로운 가치체계를 모색하고자 한다. 비판적 계승론자나 당대 문화보수주의자들은 전통문화와 사상이 현대화에 기여할 수 있는 요소를 지니고 있으며, 전통사상에 대한 새로운 이해와 해석을 통해 현대화의 부작용을 해결해 나갈 수 있다고 주장한다. 우리의 입장에서 본다면, 전통과 문화를 일종의 '역량(力量)'(power)으로 간주하는 대륙의 비판적 계승론자나 문화보수주의자들의 관점에 대한 심도 있는 이해가 필요하며, 우리에게도 전통문화와 사상의 새로운 해석을 통해 현실문제 해결의 계기를 모색하려는 적극적인 노력이 요청된다고 할 수 있다.

NECESSITY OF READY ELECTRON DISPOSAL AND INTERSPECIES HYDROGEN TRANSFER FOR THE UTILIZATION OF ETHANOL BY RUMEN BACTERIA

  • Ethanol was utilized by mixed rumen microbes, but addition of pentachlorophenol (25 mg/l), a methanogen inhibitor, suppressed the utilization of ethanol. Carbon monoxide (50% of the gas phase), a hydrogenase inhibitor, more strongly suppressed the utilization of ethanol, propanol, and butanol. These results suggest that the major ethanol utilizers are $H_2$ producers. Ethanol utilization was depressed at low pH (below 6.0). Since methanogens were shown to be relatively resistant to low pH, it appears that ethanol utilizers are particularly sensitive to low pH. Ruminococcus albus and R. flavefaciens in mono-culture produced ethanol from carbohydrate (glucose and cellobiose), even when a high level (170 mM) of ethanol was present. Ethanol was not utilized even in the absence of carbohydrate, but the co-culture of these bacteria with methanogens resulted in the utilization of ethanol, i.e., when $H_2$ was rapidly converted to $CH_4$, R. albus and R. flavefaciens utilized ethanol. These results suggest that ethanol is utilized when the electrons liberated by the oxidation of ethanol are rapidly removed, and ready electron disposal in ethanol-utilizing, $H_2$-producing bacteria is accomplished by the interspecies transfer of $H_2$.

코치닐을 활용한 우피의 천연염색 (Natural dyeing of cow leather with cochineal)

  • The introduction of natural dyes into modern dye houses is very promising green chemistry concept that should be popularized more to reduce the dependency of leather dyeing on some toxic and non-biodegradable synthetic dyes. In this study, the properties of dyeing of cochineal on cow leather were evaluated. The proper dyeing conditions were identified with dye uptake (K/S values) depending on the colorant concentration, dyeing duration, dyeing temperature, and dye bath pH. For the proper mordanting conditions, color changes for different mordants were observed as $La^{*}b^{*}$ and H V/C values. Color fastness (light, rubbing, and dry cleaning) was also examined. Additionally, antibacterial properties and UV protection were examined. The results were as follows: The optimized dyeing conditions were 300% o.w.f., $40^{\circ}C$, 40 min., and pH 5. The cow leather color was red in the absence of mordanting, while it was red purple after being mordanted with Al and Cu, and purple mordanted with Fe. The K/S value of cow leathers increased in the order of the dyeing using $AlK(SO_4)_2$ > $CuSO_4$ > $FeSO_4$. The colorfastness to light and rubbing were reduced compared to original (untreated) cow leather. However dry cleaning fastness was very satisfactory, with a 4~5 rating. The dyed and pre-mordanting dyed cow leather showed excellent antibacterial properties.

시호의 메탄올 추출물이 일차배양한 뇌, DRG 및 간세포에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Methanol Extract of Bupleuri Radix on Primary Cultured Brain Cells, DRG and Hepatocytes)

  • Effects of the methanol extract of Bupleuri Radix on primary cultured chicken embryonic brain cells, dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and rat hepatocytes were studied. The methanol extract of Bupleuri Radix at the concentration ranging from $10{\;}{\mu}g/ml\;to\;100{\;}{\mu}g/ml$ significantly recovered the cytotoxicity of rat hepatocytes induced by the treatment of galactosamine; at the concentration of $100\;{\mu}g/ml$, values of GOT and GPT in the culture medium were reduced by the 60% and 75%, respectively of those in the absence of the methanol extract of Bupleuri Radix. The addition of the methanol extract of Bupleuri Radix. into chicken embryonic brain cells which were cultured with a deficient medium significantly increased the number of cells promoting the neurite outgrowth. However, the methanol extract of Bupleuri Radix showed no effect on the activities of PDHC and acetylcholinesterase in primary cultured brain cells.

Screening for Herbs Having Inhibitory Effect on Egg Hatching of Strongyloides venezuelensis

  • In vitro bioassays of aqueous extracts of 25 herbal species were performed by ovicidal activity against Strongvloides venuelensis. 500 mg of feces from Mongorian gerbil infected with S. venuelensis were placed into polyvinyl culture with extracts of herb and anthelmintic drugs in triplicates. Larval activity inside the polyvinyl bag was recorded microscopically at 12 hours, and every 24 hours thereafter for up to 72 hrs incubation. Eggs were not hatched within 72 hrs and degeneration was evident in the presence of extracts. The ovicidal activity characterized by the absence of L$_3$ in fecal cultures inside the polyvinyl bag. 1. Among 25 herbs, 12 herbs had ovicidal effects and caused degeneration of larvae in egg. S. angustifolia, I. helenium, A. korenum, P. tenuifolia, F. virridissima, A. asiatica, S. chinensis, A. tataricus, S. baicalensis, M. rimosa, S. glabra and Z. piperitum were the most ovicidal effect. However, P. thunbergiana, T. chinensis, C. flos, G. uralensis, C. obutusifolia, C. fortunei, A. koreana, P. grandiflorum, P. tenuifolia (Radix), P. mume and A. asphodelodes showed no ovicidal effects in vinyl bag culture. 2. Of 25 hrebs, 4 herbs had ovicidal and wormicidal effects, P. thunbergiana, C. flos, B. Striata and T. chinensis were characterized by degeneration of larvae.

Bacillus sp. KJ16에서 Cyclodextrin Gluanotransferase와 Cyclodextrinase 생산의 Catabolite Repression

  • The biosynthesis and catabolite repression of cyclodextrin glucanotransferase(CGTase) and cyclodextrinase(CDase) were studied in Bacillus sp. KJI6. In accompanying to the cell growth, CGTase was synthesized during early growth phase (20h culture) and CDase was synthesized during late growth phase (60h culture). Synthesis of CGTase was rather constitutive than that of CDase in the absence or presence of carbon source. Production of CDase was strongly stimulated by amylopectin and $\gamma$-CD medium (about 6 times), but CGTase synthesis was slightly increased (about 1.3 times). Easily metabolizable carbohydrates such as D-glucose, D- fructose and D-mannose completely repressed the expression of CDase, whereas their repressive effect to CGTase synthesis was relatively negligible. By addition of 10 mM cAMP, any significant effect on the synthesis of the two enzymes was not observed. Hardly metabolizable glucose analogues such as 2-deoxy-D-glucose and 3-0-methyl-D-glucopyranose also did not show any repression on the syntheses of CGTase and CDase. This indicates that D-glucose has to be metabolized to exert its repressive effect. With these results, it seems likely that the biosynthesis of CGTase and CDase are regulated by the catabolite repression due to unknown metabolite(s) of EM pathway.

한국 국가혁신체제의 구조와 특성 (The Structure and Characteristics of the Korean National Innovation System)

  • This paper summarizes the research results on the structural characteristics of the Korean innovation system. The Korean NIS has functioned well in the foreign technology imitation stage. However, there are many drawbacks to advancing to the stage of technological innovation. Weak infrastructure and linkages among technological institutions are detrimental factors that affect technological innovation. The immobility of professional manpower is a serious bottleneck to knowledge diffusion. Especially, the inactivity of university research prevents universities from being able to play a relevant role in the national innovation system. The drawbacks of the Korean innovation system are mainly associated with the public sector and social culture. Weak linkages among organizations are due to the lack of trust among people and organizations, and absence of demand-oriented management in public institutes. Weaknesses in technological infrastructure, university research and the social and cultural environment are tile result of the lack of government will. However, the private sector was evaluated as being relatively active in innovation. Particularly, Chaebols deployed aggressive strategies to acquire their own technological capabilities. The findings of this study suggest that to strengthen the Korean innovation system, the government continues to be important, as in the past, in order to shape social institutions and a culture that is learning friendly, diffusion friendly and, consequently, innovation friendly.

Porphyromonas gingivalis의 각종 표면성분이 싸이토카인 형성에 미치는 영향 (The cytokine-inducing activities of surface components of the periodontopathogenic bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis)

  • This study was carried out to examine the potency of the three surface compo- nents from Porphyromonas gingivalis to stimulate the murine macrophage cell line RAW264.7 to synthesize the pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha($TNF-{\alpha}$) and nitric oxide (NO). Lipopolysaccharide(LPS). lipid A-associated proteins(LAP) and saline-extractable surface -associated material(SAM) were isolated from P. gingivalis 381. $TNF-{\alpha}$ release into culture supernatants was determined by two-site ELISA. NO production was assayed by measuring the accumulation of nitrite in culture supernatants. Western blot analysis of iNOS and analysis of reverse transcription(RT)-PCR products were carried out. The surface components extracted from this bacterium were almost equally potent in stimulating release of $TNF-{\alpha}$ and NO by RAW264.7 cells. $TNF-{\alpha}$ that was being measured immunologically was due to activation of $TNF-{\alpha}$ gene transcription. The present study clearly shows that P. gingivalis surface components fully induced iNOS expression in RAW264.7 cells in the absence of other stimuli. The ability of P. gingivalis surface components to promote the production of $TNF-{\alpha}$ and NO may be important in the pathogenesis of inflammatory periodontal disease.

  • The rise of the machine culture in the last 20th century has rapidly changed the world into a high-tech civilized society but at the same time, it also caused environmental estrangements such as damage in the environment and the loss of humanity in the human society due to materialism. As a reaction to the absence of humanity in such environment, in these modern days design which acts as the product of public art, escaped from the previous physical functional satisfaction and stood out as the culture industry that satisfies human's sensibility. This study is focusing on the method of how such sensitive designs are expressed in the interior space of retail shops and such methods are researched through the image evaluation test conducted to the 10 brands of overseas' jewelery shops. The purpose of this study is to analyze the meaning and effects of designs that took consideration of sensibility in a retail shop and to establish efficient marketing strategy using sensitive design and to utilize it into the interior space.

계면활성제 첨가배양에 따른 Rhizopus oryzae의 $\alpha$-Amylase와 Phosphatase분비촉진 (Enhancement by Surfactant on Release of $\alpha$-Amylase and Phosphatase in Submerged Culture of Rhizopus oryzae)

  • Rhizopus oryzae를 액체배양하는 동안, $\alpha$-amylase, acid phosphatase 그리고 alkaline phosphatase와 같은 분비효소의 분비능에 대한 계면활성 제의 촉진효과를 조사하였다. 그 결과 집락의 형태적인 변화를 볼 수 있었는바, 0.18mM SDS 처리구에서는 작은 pelletal형, 0. 48mM DOC 처리구에서는 pulpy형, 계면활성제를 처리하지 않은 시험구에서는 사상형의 집 락을 나타내었다. SDS를 첨가함으로써 $\alpha$-amylase는 9배, acid phosphatase는 25배의 활성도 증가가 유도되었다. DOC첨가 시험구에서 alkaline phosphatase 활성도는 배양액에서 11배 증가가 나타났을 뿐 아니라 세포질에서도 역시 상승하였다.
