To investigate the mutant induction of wild ginseng culture extract, we performed chromosomal aberration assay with chinese hamster lung cell in vitro. The test concentration of the extract was decided for the standard with the 50% suppression of cell propagation in the cell. The concentrations for the chromosome test were 1,250, 2,500 and 5,000 ㎍/ml with metabolic activation (+S, 6 hours treatment), 1,100, 2,200 and 4,400 ㎍/ml without metabolic activation (-S, 6 hours treatment) 800, 1,600 and 3,200 ㎍/ml without metabolic activation (-S, 24 hours treatment). No significant increase in chromosome aberrations was observed at any of these concentrations both in the absence and presence of metabolic activation system. Cyclophosphamide monohydrate (CPA) and ethylmethanesulfonate (EMS) caused a significant increase in chromosome aberration. These results may be concluded that wild ginseng culture extract is not capable of inducing chromosome aberration in cultured chinese hamster lung cell regardless of metabolic activation and genotoxicity of that is negative under the present experimental condition.

Oxygen consumption by the Manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum (Bivalvia: Veneridae) maintained in a culture tank for 7-10 weeks was measured with an automatic intermittent-flow-respirometer (AIFR). There was evidence for an endogenous tidal rhythm of 12.4 h in oxygen consumption, at irregular intervals of between about 7 and 18 hours during experiments of between 22 h 5 min and 70 h 32 min (duration) recording for fasting animals in constant darkness at constant temperatures in the absence of tidal rhythms.

Russia has an interesting history as a donor, recipient and re-emerging donor in international development assistance (IDA). This article introduces the history, policy and challenges of Russian IDA, and provides suggestions for such challenges. The main barrier to Russian IDA is the absence of a central government agency and Russia can learn from other country's experience. Concerning lack of data on the provision of assistance to each sector of IDA and the large number of recipient countries, Russia can learn from Korea particularly in education sector. With respect to building a system ensuring the efficiency of the Russian IDA works, a tool for analysis of the effect of the Russian IDA programmes may be drawn in consultation with international institutions or successful programmes of other donor countries.

3D modeling of the human body is an integral part of computer graphics. Among them, several studies have been conducted on hair modeling, but there are generally few studies that effectively implement hair and face modeling simultaneously. This study has the originality of providing users with customized face modeling and hair modeling that is different from previous studies. For realistic hair styling, We design and realize hair segmentation using FCN, and we select the most appropriate model through comparing PSPNet, DeepLab V3+, and MobileNet. In this study, we use the open dataset named Figaro1k. Through the analysis of iteration and epoch parameters, we reach the optimized values of them. In addition, we experiment external parameters about the location of the camera, the color of the lighting, and the presence or absence of accessories. And the environmental analysis factors of the avatar maker were set and solutions to problems derived during the analysis process were presented.

This study aims to examine the effects of child care teachers' job stress and personality on child abuse protective behaviors, which consist of perception and reporting intention of child abuse, and to verify the moderating effect of past child abuse experience. A survey was conducted on 246 child care teachers nationwide, and the collected data were analyzed through regression analysis and t-test. The results showed that job stress had a negative effect and personality had a positive effect on child abuse protective behaviors. In addition, there was a significant difference in the influence of job stress and personality on protective behaviors according to the presence or absence of past child abuse experience. Based on these results, practical implications for preventing child abuse by child care teachers were discussed.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of smoking warning phrases on cigarette packages on students' attitudes toward smoking. Two research hypotheses were established to verify the effectiveness of the cigarette warning phrase. In order to verify the hypothesis, 129 students of Chung - Ang University were used. In order to investigate the difference of attitude toward smoking according to the presence or absence of smoking warnings, two types of questionnaires were prepared. Statistical program SPSS 18.0 was used and frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis were performed. The presence or absence of witnessing the smoking warnings were found to have a statistically significant effect on the smoking attitude score. Sex and parental smoking did not have any significant effect.

The identification of compounds with anti-senescence activity in cell culture system is a first step in aging research. Given that pyruvate can be used energy source by conversion to acetyl-CoA in mitochondria, and protects cultured cell from various stress-induced cell damage and cell death, synthetic media (e.g., DMEM) often includes 1 mM pyruvate, which is very higher than the pyruvate concentration in human blood (approximately 30 ��M). However, the use of medium containing high concentration of pyruvate is not suitable for screening anti-senescence compounds, because pyruvate also protects against the cellular senescence of primary human dermal fibroblasts (NHDFs) through NAD+ generated during conversion to lactate. In this study, four extracts, i.e., Sprouted seed and fruit complex, Poncirus trifoliata fruit extract, Jaum balancing complex, and Prunus mume extract were used for evaluation of different anti-senescence effect in the absence or presence of 0.1 mM pyruvate, similar to the physiological pyruvate concentration. The senescence in NHDFs cultured with DMEM in the presence of 0.1 mM pyruvate (approximately the physiological concentration in human blood) is accelerated, as observed in pyruvate deprivation conditions. The cytotoxicity of the Poncirus trifoliata fruit extract was protected by pyruvate, and Jaum balancing complex and Prunus mume extract had anti-senescence activity in the presence of 0.1 mM pyruvate, but not in the absence of pyruvate. Given that pyruvate is a powerful protector against both cytotoxicity and cellular senescence, the screening of candidate agents for anti-senescence in high pyruvate conditions using an in vitro cell culture system is not valid. Therefore, we recommend the use of a low concentration of pyruvate to evaluate the anti-senescence effects of candidates, which is more similar to in vivo aging conditions than excessive stress-induced senescence models, to exclude the effect of excessive pyruvate in vitro.

This essay examines, first, the possibility and limitation of Asian America as a category of identity and its political and cultural implications through various theoretical perspectives. Here, by closely reading David Mura's poem "The Colors of Desire," I will argue that "Asian America" as a category of identity is now on the verge of falling apart and its politics of identity is no longer an effective way of fighting back against racism in the US. It is because Asian America is indeed what might be called a historical block, a product of ad-hoc coalition between different ethnic groups historically situated and constructed. In this sense, it is a kind of phantasmal object that is marked by practical absence. This fabricatedness inherent in Asian America as an identity category signifies that it has no essence that is meant to define the group in a transcendental way. The internal totality and coherence of that identity can thus be achieved only by suppressing differences between various ethnic groups and positing a single 'authentic' Asian American identity and culture. More dangerously, according to Viet Nguyen, such idealization of a single subject position can reinforces ideological rigidity that might threaten the ability of Asian America to represent itself in a unified fashion. Then, he predicts, Asian America will lose its cohesive force and fall apart. Eventually, every group within Asian America will be ethnicized. The only way of escaping from this bleak situation, as Vincent Cheng argues, is to foregroud the fabricatedness and ad-hocness of Asian America and to perform "inauthenticity," because Asian America is nothing but a functional category that is marked by absence of essence or authenticity. If Asian Americans admit that they have no essence and that they are essentially inauthentic, the practice of performing inauthenticity can become what we might call an alternative Asian American culture and identity.

Myogenic satellite cells have been isolated and identified by several recently elucidated molecular markers. Furthermore, knowledge about the precise function of these markers has provided insight into the early and terminal events of satellite cells during proliferation, differentiation, transdifferentiation, specification and activation. Recently, quiescent myogenic satellite cells have been associated with possession of Pax 3 and 7 that represent pluripotent stem cells capable of differentiating into other lineages. However, the mechanism by which myogenic satellite cells attain pluripotent potential remain elusive. Later, transdifferentiating ability of these cells to another lineage in the absence or presence of certain growth factor/ or agents has revolutionized the scope of these pluripotent myogenic satellite cells for manipulation of animal production (in terms of quality and quantity of muscle protein) and health (in terms of repair of skeletal muscle, cartilage or bone).
