The experimental investigation was performed to find the associated changes in characteristics of fretting wear with various water temperatures. The fretting wear tests were carried out using the zirconium alloy tubes and the grids with increasing the water temperature. The tube materials in water of $20^{\circ}C,\;50^{\circ}C\;and\;80^{\circ}C$ were tested with the applied load of 20 N and the relative amplitude of $200{\mu}m$. The worn surfaces were observed by SEM, EDX analysis and 2D surface profiler. As the water temperature increased, the wear volume was decreased, but oxide layer was increased on the worn surface. The abrasive wear mechanism was observed at water temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and adhesive wear mechanism occurred at water temperature of $50^{\circ}C,\;80^{\circ}C$. As the water temperature increased, surface micro-hardness was decreased, but wear depth and wear width were decreased due to increasing stick phenomenon. Stick regime occurred due to the formation of oxide layer on the worn surface with increasing water temperatures
PURPOSE. To evaluate the wear of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) dental ceramic materials opposed by enamel as a function of increased chewing forces. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The enamel cusps of healthy human third molar teeth (n = 40) opposed by materials from CAD-CAM dental ceramic groups (n = 10), including Vita Enamic® (ENA), a polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (PICN); GC Cerasmart® (CERA), a resin nanoceramic; Celtra® Duo (DUO), a zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (ZLS) ceramic; and IPS e.max ZirCAD (ZIR), a polycrystalline zirconia, were exposed to chewing simulation (1,200,000 cycles; 120 N load; 1 Hz frequency; 0.7 mm lateral and 2 mm vertical motion). The wear of both enamel cusps and materials was quantified using a 3D laser scanner, and the wear mechanisms were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results were analysed using Welch ANOVA and Kruskal Wallis test (α = .05). RESULTS. ZIR showed lower volume loss (0.02 ± 0.01 mm3) than ENA, CERA and DUO (P = .001, P = .018 and P = .005, respectively). The wear of cusp/DUO [0.59 mm3 (0.50-1.63 mm3)] was higher than cusp/CERA [0.17 mm3 (0.04-0.41 mm3)] (P = .007). ZIR showed completely different wear mechanism in SEM. CONCLUSION. Composite structured materials such as PICN and ZLS ceramic exhibit more abrasive effect on opposing enamel due to their loss against wear, compared to uniform structured zirconia. The resin nano-ceramic causes the lowest enamel wear thanks to its flexible nano-ceramic microstructure. While zirconia appears to be an enamel-friendly material in wear volume loss, it can cause microstructural defects of enamel.
In recent years abrasive water jet (AWJ) has received significant attention as a technology used in the manufacturing industry for cutting materials. In this paper we report the development of a new preparation method of abrasives for water jet by using an air bubbling sedimentation rate control technique. The SiC abrasives prepared by an air bubbling sedimentation rate control technique using latex resin are found to be superior to the conventional abrasives not only in surface roughness uniformity but also in lifetime. The AWJ test results also show that the former has also better impact-resistance and wear-resistance than the latter.

The Plasma Transferred Arc(PTA) overlay welding method is lately introduced as one of the most useful surface overlay method of the engine component. In this paper, the overlay welding method on the Nimonic super alloy was established by the PTA overlay welding process using the same super alloy powder. The characteristics of the Co-base and Ni-base super alloy overlay layers were investigated through the metallurgical, abrasive and cavitation erosion test. The abrasive and cavitation characteristics were investigated at room and high temperature.
New methods of nano sized material and composite coating preparations have been considered on the base of mathematical model of abrasion reaction interaction of milling and grinding bodies in planetary centrifugal mill. The essence of the method is the abrasive and oxidative wear of the milling bodies and amorphous (better inert) additives. Interactions between them has been supplied the necessary impulse of pressure and temperature on the impact frictional contacts and promoted chemical processes. The offered method can find application for such processing as sintering and geological minerals opening.
In order to optimize the polishing process, Run to Run control scheme has been applied to the micro mold polishing in this study. Also, to fully understand the effect of parameters on the surface roughness a design of experiment is performed. By linear approximation of main factors such as gap and rotational speed of micro quill, EWMA (Exponential Weighted Moving Average) gradual mode controller is adopted as a optimizing tool. Consequently, the process converged quickly at a target value of surface roughness Ra 10nm and Rmax 50nm, and was hardly affected by unwanted process noises like initial surface quality and wear of magnetic abrasives.

The frictional properties of automotive brake pads with four different ceramic materials such as magnesia, hematite, alumina, and zircon were investigated. A Krauss type friction tester using gray iron disks was used to examine the friction coefficient, intensity of friction force oscillation, and the tribe-surfaces. Results showed that the friction coefficient increased as the hardness of abrasives increases. Friction oscillation was also increased with hardness of the abrasives. However, the friction materials containing less abrasive particles produced stable friction films on the sliding surface. The transition between two-body and three body abrasion during sliding also played a crucial role in destructing the friction film on the pad surface and in determining various frictional properties.
The Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) overlaying method is lately introduced as one of the most useful surface modification method of the engine component. In this paper, the characteristics of the Co-base and Ni-base super alloy overlay layers by PTA method were investigated through the metallurgical, abrasive and cavitation erosion test. Experimental results showed that the abrasive wear resistance of the Co-base Stellite 6 overlayer was the most superior and followed in order of Nimonic 80A, Inconel 625 and Inconel 718. However, the cavitation erosion characteristic of the Stellite 6 overlayer was the most inferior and it was better in order of Inconel 625, Inconel 718 and Nimonic 80A.
Carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP), which have been developed for their high mechanical properties, are insufficient to secure machinery. This paper investigates the use of magnetic abrasive finishing methods and the characteristics of surface roughness for mirror machining of CFRP. The cylindrical surface of CFRP was ground using a diamond paste with sizes of 0.1, 0.5, 1 and 6${\mu}m$. Consequently, an effective surface roughness of 0.03${\mu}m(R_a)$ could be obtained via a paste size of 0.5${\mu}m$. The surface roughness was not improved due to epoxy abrasion between the carbon fiber and the epoxy.
