  • Purpose : This study is to identify the aftermath of hysterectomy in the treatment of a uterine disease. Methods : We collected treatises on the aftermath of hysterectomy and analyzed those. Those treatise had relation to change in ano-rectal function, ovarian function, change of serum sex hormone levels, bone mineral density, quality of life and so on. Results : After the treatises on the aftermath of hysterectomy, common symptoms after hysterectomy were general weakness, loss of taste, sweating, abdominal pain, dysuria, vaginal bleeding, weight loss, emptyness on lower abdomen and pains on operation. Conclusion : The result of this study suggest the aftermath of hysterectomy in the treatment of a uterine disease. In conclusion, our result support the importance of earlier prediction and a proper management plan to improve the quality of life in women.

  • The Henoch-Schnlein Purpura (HSP) is a systemic small vasculitis, characterized by palpable purpura, abdominal pain, hematuria or proteinuria, and arthritis. The etiology is unknown but it is manifested by allergic reaction, so it is called Anaphylactoid Purpura. The prognosis of disease is usually good, but about 50% of patients have experienced recurrences. Oral corticosteroid is treatment of choice, but it cannot prevent recurrence of Disease. We experienced two case of young patients who suffered from the Henoch-Schnlein purpura. We prescripted Mokyangbinrang-hwan, Insamyang-witang, Gwibi-tang. For both two patient, symptoms were much relieved.

  • We report a case of leaflet embolization of central leaflet fracture a 31mm mitral Edw-ards-Duromedics prosthesis. A leaflet was fractured to two segments, a larger one embolized to right common iliac artery and a smaller one to left femoral artery, respectively. Patient was reoperated with 29mm mitral Carbomedics prosthesis and incidentally found of smaller segment in left femoral artery at cannulation site. The embolectomy was done 15 days after cardiac operation through midline abdominal incision, Leaflet escape of a mitral Edward-Duromedics prosthesis is a rare, potentially curable mode of valve failure. After mechanical valve replacement, unexplained heart failure and acute pulmonary edema, mechanical valve failure should be suspected. Correct interpretation of clinical signs, symptoms and fluroscopy should allow early diagnosis of leaflet escape and prompt surgical therapy.

  • We report a case of a 13-year-old girl who presented with a 2-month history of intermittent abdominal pain. Laboratory examination showed hepatitis and pancreatitis. Because of persistent vomiting, computed tomography (CT) was performed, which revealed a circumferential soft tissue density in the duodenal wall, causing partial obstruction. Supportive therapy failed. Repeat CT showed no significant change from the initial study. The patient underwent upper endoscopy, which revealed a mass in the second portion of the duodenum, which occluded most parts of the lumen. The histopathological finding was consistent with an anaplastic large cell lymphoma, a rare form of small bowel neoplasm. After the third course of chemotherapy, complete resolution of the mass was noted, and her symptoms were relieved.

  • This guidance is an updated version of the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) guidelines based on evidence-based medicine. IBS is a common chronic gastrointestinal syndrome that occurs in approximately 10% of the population and causes chronic abdominal pain as well as bowel habit changes, such as stool frequency or consistency. The final diagnosis of IBS is based on the exclusion of organic diseases that would explain the symptoms and the absence of endoscopic abnormalities. IBS can reduce the quality of life and cause a major disease burden, such as repeated examinations and continuous drug use, by mistaking organic diseases including malignancy. The major changes are as follows: 1) when to perform a colonoscopy under the impression of IBS; 2) effect of a low-fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyol diet; 3) impact of probiotics in IBS; and 4) role of antibiotics in IBS. The Korean Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility recently updated these guidelines to support physicians for qualified medical services and reduce the socioeconomic burden of IBS.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean medicine on endometrial cancer patient after laparotomy. Methods: The patient with endometrial cancer who underwent Total Abdominal Hysterectomy (TAH), Bilateral Salpingo Oophorectomy (BSO), Bilateral Paraaortic Lymph Node Dissection (BPLND) was treated by Korean medicine such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion. To evaluate the patient, symptoms were measured by Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG). Blood tests including cancer biomarker were conducted during treatment. Results: After treatment, postoperative pain and general weakness were gradually relieved. Conclusions: This case provides us treatment with Korean medicine have substantial benefit on postoperative complications after laparotomy.

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a frequently diagnosed gastrointestinal (GI) disorder characterized by recurrent abdominal pain, bloating, and changes in the stool form or frequency without any structural changes and overt inflammation. It is not a life-threatening condition but causes a considerable level of discomfort and distress. Among the many pathophysiologic factors, such as altered GI motility, visceral hypersensitivity, and low-grade mucosal inflammation, as well as other immunologic, psychologic, and genetic factors, gut microbiota imbalance (dysbiosis), which is frequently found in IBS, has been highlighted as an etiology of IBS. Dysbiosis may affect gut mucosal homeostasis, immune function, metabolic regulation, and even visceral motor function. As diet is shown to play a fundamental role in the gut microbiota profile, this review discusses the influence of diet on IBS occurring through the modulation of gut microbiota. Based on previous studies, it appears that dietary modulation of the gut microbiota may be effective for the alleviation of IBS symptoms and, also an effective IBS management strategy based on the underlying mechanism; especially because, IBS currently has no specific treatment owing to its uncertain etiology.

  • A 7-year-old Scottish Straight cat presented with hypersalivation and generalized hyperesthesia. The cat was provided tuna-based food for 2 to 3 weeks before clinical symptoms appeared. Abdominal ultrasonography showed a heterogeneous, hyperechoic mesentery with hypoechoic foci. Pansteatitis was tentatively diagnosed and the cat was treated with vitamin E, anti-inflammatory drugs, and dietary changes. The clinical signs and changes in mesenteric fat on serial ultrasonography resolved. After feeding tuna-based food again, the same clinical signs and mesenteric changes on ultrasound recurred, which recovered through the same treatment. This study suggests that ultrasonography can be useful for diagnosis and monitoring of feline pansteatitis.

  • Systemic autoinflammatory diseases (SAIDs) are characterized by unprovoked inflammatory episodes such as recurrent/periodic fever, serositis, skin lesions, abdominal symptoms, arthritis/arthralgia, and central nervous system involvement. Genetic diagnosis of SAIDs has been challenging because disease manifestations overlap among themselves and with other immunological disease categories, such as infection and autoimmune diseases. However, the advent of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and expanding knowledge about the innate immunity and inflammation have made the routine genetic diagnosis of SAIDs possible. Here, we review the recurrent/periodic fevers, other recently identified autoinflammatory diseases, and type I interferonopathies, and discuss the clinical usefulness of NGS targeted sequencing for SAIDs, and recent advance of understandings for this heterogeneous disease group as for underlying primary immunodeficiency.
