당귀(當歸)와 시호(柴胡)뿌리 혼합분말(混合粉末) 첨가(添加) 사료가 육계(肉鷄)의 성장능력(成長能力)과 장기발달(臟器發達) 및 혈액성분(血液成分)에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Dietary Root Powder Mixture of Angelicae gigantis and Bupleurum falcatum on Growth Performance, Organ Weight and Serum Components in Broiler Chicken)

  • 당귀(當歸)와 시호근부(柴胡根部) 혼합분말을 육계사료(肉鷄飼料)에 0. 0, 0. 4, 1. 0, 2. 0%씩 첨가하여 6주간 급여한 결과는 다음과 같다. 당귀와 시호근부 첨가구의 사료섭취량(飼料攝取量)이 대조구보다 많았음을 볼때 기호성(嗜好性)은 좋게 평가되었다. 증체량(增體量)은 혼합제 1. 0% 첨가구에서 1,752g으로 대조구 보다 수당(首當) 130g 이상 높았다. 사료요구율(飼料要求率)은 1. 0% 첨가구에서 1. 85로서 대조구의 1. 99보다 유의하게 높았다(P < 0. 05) 도체량(屠體量)은 1. 0% 첨가구(1,261g)에서 높았으나 도체율은 0. 4% 첨가구에서 69. 48%로 높았다. 가슴살고기량은 0. 4% 첨가구에서 233g으로 대조구보다도 20g이상 더 높았다. 다리고기는 0. 4% 첨가구에서 대조구의 353g보다 50g이상 높았다. 당귀와 시호근부 첨가수준이 높아질 수록 간장(肝臟)의 중량이 무거워지는 경향이 있으며 비장(脾臟)과 심장(心臟) 및 근위(筋胃)의 중량과 복강과 근위주위 축적지방량(蓄積脂肪量)은 0. 4% 복합첨가구에서 높았다. 혈청(血淸) 총단백질(總蛋白質)과 혈청 총 콜레스테롤 및 트리글리세라이드 농도는 2. 0% 복합첨가구에서 높았으며 증체중이 높은 1. 0% 복합첨가구에서는 헐청 단백질과 콜레스테롤 및 트리글리세 라이드 농도가 낮은 경향으로 나타났다.

육계의 성장능력 향상을 위한 이눌로프리바이오틱스의 적정 첨가수준 결정 (Determination of Optimal Added-Levels of Inuloprebiotics for Promotion of Growing Performance in Broiler Chickens)

  • 본 연구는 브로일러의 성장능력을 촉진하기 위한 사료 내 이눌로프리바이오틱스의 적정 첨가수준을 결정하기 위하여 수행하였다. 부화 당일 로스계통(Ross 308)의 브로일러 수컷 320수를 4개의 처리구로 완전임의배치하여 35일 동안 사육하였다. 실험처리구는 대조구(무첨가구), 항생제 첨가구(avilamycin 8 ppm), 이눌로프리바이오틱스 200 ppm 첨가구 및 이눌로프리바이오틱스 250 ppm 첨가구로 구분하였다. 브로일러의 체중과 사료섭취량은 두개의 이눌로프리바이오틱스 첨가구가 대조구, 항생제 첨가구 보다도 높았고, 항생제 첨가구는 대조구에 비해서 높았으며 통계적인 유의차가 인정되었다. 전체 실험기간 동안 사료요구율은 대조구가 이눌로프리바이오틱스 첨가구와 비교할 때 유의하게 높았으나 항생제 첨가구와 이눌로프리바이오틱스 첨가구 사이의 통계적인 유의차는 없었다. 도체중, 도체율, 가슴살, 다리살의 무게는 이눌로프리바이오틱스 첨가구가 대조구, 항생제 첨가구에 비해서 유의하게 높았고, 이눌로프리바이오틱스 200 ppm, 250 ppm 첨가구 사이의 차이는 없었으나 항생제 첨가구는 대조구에 비해서 유의하게 높았다. 복강지방은 이눌로프리바이오틱스 첨가구가 유의하게 감소(19.08~23.30%)하였으며 혈액 면역물질과 흉선, F낭의 무게는 이눌로프리바이오틱스 첨가구가 대조구와 항생제 첨가구에 비해서 유의하게 증가하였다. 장내 유익한 Bifidobacteria와 Lactobacillu는 이눌로프리바이오틱스 첨가구가 대조구와 항생제 첨가구에 비해서 유의하게 증가하였으나 유해한 E. coli와 Salmonella는 그 반대로 나타났으며 통계적인 유의차가 인정되었다. 본 연구는 브로일러의 성장능력 향상을 위한 사료 내 이눌로프리바이오틱스의 적정 첨가수준은 200 ppm에서 결정될 수 있음을 보여준다.

Influence of Lighting Schedule and Nutrient Density in Broiler Chickens: Effect on Growth Performance, Carcass Traits and Meat Quality

  • The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of lighting schedule and nutrient density on growth performance, carcass traits and meat quality of broiler chickens. A total of 576 day old Arbor Acre male chickens was used with a $4{\times}2$ factorial arrangement. The four lighting schedules were continuous (23 L:1 D, CL), 20 L:4 D (12 L:2 D:8 L:2 D), 16 L:8 D (12 L:3 D:2 L:3 D: 2 L:2 D) and 12 L:12 D (9 L:3 D:1 L:3 D:1 L:3 D:1 L:3 D) and provided by incandescent bulbs. The two nutrient densities were high (H, starter diet: 13.39 MJ/kg apparent metabolisable energy (AME), 23.00% crude protein (CP); finisher diet: 13.39 MJ AME/kg, 19.70% CP) and low energy and protein level (L, starter diet: 12.03 MJ AME/kg, 20.80% CP; finisher diet: 12.14 MJ AME/kg, 18.30% CP). Houses with dark curtains and solid sidewalls were used. Chickens were randomly allocated to the 8 treatments with each treatment comprising 6 replicates of 12 chickens. Feed and water were available ad libitum. Lighting schedules showed no difference (p>0.05) in growth performance at the end of the experiment. 12 L:12 D significantly reduced (p<0.05) the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) compared to 23 L:1 D treatment. Intermittent lighting (IL) schedules produced higher protein content (p<0.001) in breast meat. Birds on high density diets had higher body weight (BW), feed intake (FI) (p<0.001), and feed conversion ratio (FCR) (p<0.001) throughout the experiment with the exception of 36 to 42 d. High nutrient density increased (p<0.05) abdominal fat, decreased (p<0.05) the moisture loss of meat, and reduced percentage of wings and legs. There was a significant lighting schedule${\times}$diet interaction (p<0.001) on FCR for days 8 to 14 and 15 to 21. Results indicated that IL can give similar growth performance in comparison with CL, meanwhile with positive effects on meat quality by increasing protein content and decreasing the concentration of MDA. High nutrient density resulted in greater growth performance.

전주지역 중, 노년층의 생활습관과 건강상태 조사(II) (A Study of Health-related Habits, Dietary Behaviors and the Health Status of the Middle-aged and the Elderly Living in the Chonju Area (II))

  • This study investigated the anthropometric and biochemical indices, and the health and nutritional factors influencing the two indices among 194 middle-aged and elderly subjects (108 middle-aged and 86 elderly) residing in a medium sized city for more than 10 years. In the examination of their dietary habits, 8.3% of the middle-aged subjects and 14.0% of the elderly subjects had two meals a day, and more female subjects had two meals per day. Of the subjects who ate meals at regular times, 75.0% were middle-aged and 79.1% were elderly, and the degree of irregularity of meals was greater for female subjects. The study of the dietary behavior of the subjects indicated that 71.3% and 66.3% of the middle-aged and elderly, respectively responded that the amount of food in each meal was sufficient. The subjects ate alone comprised 19.7% of the middle-aged females and 31.5% of the elderly females. The prevalence of smoking among the subjects was 28.1% for the middle-aged, 18.8% for the elderly male and 7.4% for the elderly females. The percentage of the subjects who drank alcohol was 34.4% of the middle-aged males and 13.2% of the middle-aged females. Slightly less than half of the subjects exercised more than once a week, with the male subjects showing a higher rate than the female subjects. The average body mass indices (BMI) were 24.5 and 24.6 for the middle-aged male and female, respectively, and 22.6 and 24.0 for the elderly male and female, respectively. BMI assessment showed that underweight subjects (BMI < 20) comprised 3.7% of the middle-aged, 14.0% of the elderly, and that 40.7% of the middle-aged and 24.4% of the elderly were overweight (25 < BMI < 30) , and 0.9% of the middle-aged and 1.2% of the elderly were classified as obese (BMI $\geq$ 30) . A waist/hip ratio (WHR) greater than 0.8 was found in 89.5% of the middle-aged females and 90.7% of the elderly females, showing high abdominal fat deposition in the majority of females. The average systolic blood pressure of females was 121.1 $\pm$ 17.1 mmHg for the middle-aged and 129.6 $\pm$ 21.3 mmHg for the elderly subjects. The systolic blood pressures showed a significantly difference between the two age groups. Those defined as anemic subjects based on hemoglobin values comprised 13.0% of the middled-aged group and 16.3% of the elderly group. There was a tendency for higher fasting glucose levels among the elderly subjects. An increase in total plasma cholesterol levels with age was shown. The female subjects had higher cholesterol levels than the males'The study of the correlation between the daily habits and health status showed that the amount of food eaten at each meal, the frequency of eating out, and the use of dietary supplements appeared to influence BMI, WHR, the plasma triglyceride and plasma cholesterol levels; omitting one meal had a positive correlation with the systolic blood pressure and plasma cholesterol. These results suggest that desirable dietary habits and concerns for health are contributing factors for maintaining good health, as indicated by normal blood lipid levels.

Growth Performance, Meat Quality and Caecal Coliform Bacteria Count of Broiler Chicks Fed Diet with Green Tea Extract

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary green tea extract (GTE) on the performance, carcass and gastrointestinal tract (gut) traits, caecal coliform bacteria count, and pH and color (CIE $L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$) values of the breast muscle in broilers. A total number of 600 day-old broilers (Ross 308) was allocated to three treatments with four replicates containing 50 (25 males and 25 females) birds. The dietary treatments consisted of the basal diet as the control (0GTE) and diets with GTE at 0.1 (0.1GTE) or 0.2 (0.2GTE) g/kg. Body weights and the feed intake of broilers were measured at 1, 21 and 42 days, the feed intake was measured for different periods and the feed conversion ratio was calculated accordingly. At 42 day four birds per replicate were slaughtered for the determination of carcass and organ weights, caecal coliform bacteria count, and also quality of the breast muscle. The dietary GTE increased the body weight, feed efficiency, carcass weight and dressing percentage and decreased caecal coliform bacteria count of broilers (p<0.05). The 0GTE broilers consumed (p<0.01) less feed than the 0.1GTE birds in the entire experimental period. The relative abdominal fat weight and gut length of broilers in the 0.2GTE were tended to be lower (p<0.07) than those in the 0GTE group. The breast meat from 0.1GTE birds had a lower pH value when compared to that from 0GTE birds. The 0.1GTE broilers had lighter breast meat than 0GTE and 0.2GTE birds. The dietary GTE increased $a^*$ and $b^*$ values of the breast meat. Thus this product appeared to have a measurable impact on CIE color values of the breast meat in broilers. The results of the present study may indicate that the improved production results in the group with added GTE are directly connected with physiological mechanisms such as the regulation of the caecal micro-flora.

목초액의 수준별 급여 및 생균제와 혼합 급여가 육계의 생산성 및 혈액의 성상에 미치는 영향

  • Two experiments were conducted to investigate the feeding influence of wood vinegar and mixed with probiotics on performance and physiological related of broiler chicks for five weeks. Diets contained 21.5%, 3,100kcal/kg and 19.0% CP, 3,100kcal/kg ME for starting and finishing period, respectively. In Expt 1, Four levels of wood vinegar(0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.20%) were fed into two hundred forty chicks with four replicates. In Expt 2, 0, 0.1% wood vinegar(W), 0, 0.1% lactobacillus casei(L) and bacillus subtilis (B) were applied to 2${\times}$2${\times}$2 facotrial design for eight treatments with four replicates. Weight gain, feed intake, feed cholesterol were detected at five weeks old in each experiment. In Expt 1, Weight gain of chicks fed 0.1% wood vinegar(WV) was increased upto 1645.8g, but was not significantly different. However, chicks fed 0.2% WV showed the highest gain and siginificantly different compared to that of control (P<0.05) for finishing period. Feed intake also showed similar tendency with weight gain. There were no statistical difference in feed conversion. Abdominal fat seemed to be decreased in WV supplemental groups, whereas ND antibody titer tended to increase in those treatments. In Expt 2, 0, 0.1% WV, lactobacillus, bacillus were combined with each other(W$\sub$0/L$\sub$0/B$\sub$0/, W$\sub$0/L$\sub$1/B$\sub$0/, W$\sub$0/L$\sub$0/B$\sub$1/, W$\sub$0/L$\sub$1/B$\sub$1/, W$\sub$1/L$\sub$0/B$\sub$0/, W$\sub$1/L$\sub$1/B$\sub$0/, W$\sub$1/L$\sub$1/ B$\sub$0/, W$\sub$1/L$\sub$0/B$\sub$1/, W$\sub$1/L$\sub$1/B$\sub$1). WV supplemental groups significantly improved feed conversion of all treatments(P<0.05). There were no interaction in weight gain and feed intake. Total cholesterol was signficantly decreased in WV plus lactobacillus and ladtobacillus plus bacillus treatments. Liver to body ratio(%) of lactobacillus plus WV significantly decreased compared to that of other treatments. The results of these experiments showed that wood vinegar tended to improve the performance of broiler chicks, but was not effect in its combination with lactobacillus or bacillus treatments.

사료 내 뽕잎 분말 첨가 급여가 육계의 도체특성 및 계육의 육색에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Dietary Supplementation of Mulberry Leaves Powder on Carcass Characteristics and Meat Color of Broiler Chicken)

  • 본 시험은 육계에 뽕잎 분말의 급여량에 따라(0, 1%, 2% 및 3%) 5주간 사육한 육계의 생산성과 육계의 도체특성, 혈액성상 및 육색을 조사하였다. 실험구는 뽕잎 분말을 첨가 급여하지 않은 처리구를 대조구, 뽕잎 분말 1% 급여구는 T1, 뽕잎 분말 2% 급여구는 T2 그리고 뽕잎 분말 3% 급여구를 T3 등 4개 처리구로 나누어 실시하였다. 육계의 생산성은 처리구간 유의적인 변화는 없었다. 도체특성 중 도체중, 도체율, 근위, 맹장, 심장 및 복강지방 무게는 처리구간에 유의성이 없었고, 간의 무게는 대조구와 T1 및 T2는 비슷하지만 T3에서 다소 가벼운 결과이었다(p<0.05). 육계의 혈액 성상 중 HDL-cholesterol과 glucose 및 albumin은 뽕잎 급여구에서 높았고, 총 콜레스테롤과 LDL-cholesterol은 낮아지는 결과로(p<0.05) 뽕잎을 3%이상 급여할 경우 유의한 변화를 보였다. 뽕잎 분말을 3% 급여한 계육의 $L^*$값과 $a^*$값은 증가하여 육색이 어두워지는 경향이었고, $b^*$값은 처리구간에 특이한 변화가 없었다. 결론적으로 뽕잎 분말을 3% 이상 급여하면 총콜레스테롤, LDL-cholesterol이 감소하며, HDL-cholesterol이 증가함으로 혈액성상을 개선할 가능성이 있는 것으로 판단된다.

소맥엽의 섭취가 Streptozotocin 유발 당뇨 흰쥐에서 혈중 포도당 및 지질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Triticum aestivum sprout on Blood Glucose and Lipid Levels in the Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Mice)

  • This study investigated the functional effect by diets of Triticum aestivum sprout (TA) on the levels of blood glucose and lipid profiles in streptozotocin(STZ)-induced diabetic mice. Diabetes mellitus were induced by STZ intraperitoneal injection (50 mg/kg) into the male Balb/c mice. All mice fed AIN-93 diet for 3 weeks. Mice were divided to 4 groups: normal, diabetic control and two experimental groups (TA 5.0, diet with Triticum aestivum sprout 5.0% w/w; TA 2.5, diet with Triticum aestivum 2.5% w/w). The blood glucose level was decreased by TA intake in diabetic mice in the dose-dependant manner; 21.34% and 35.77% in TA 2.5 and TA 5.0 groups. The weight gain and feed efficiency ratio also were improved by TA intake compared with DM group. The weight gain was increased 1.28 and 1.09 folds in TA 5.0 and TA 2.5 groups, respectively. The weight of organs, including liver and kidney, was reduced but that of spleen and abdominal fat was increased by TA intake. Moreover, TA treatment increased the level of HDL but decreased the level of total cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood of diabetic mice. The blood of HbA1c also was significantly decreased without changing hematocrit by TA treatment compared with DM group. These results indicate the TA intake has the functional effects attenuating blood glucose and plasma lipid levels in insulin-dependent diabetes.

대학 엘리트 카나디언 선수들의 어깨·허리·무릎 관절의 등속성 근기능 평가 및 진단 (Assessment of Isokinetic Muscle Function in Elite Canadian College Paddlers)

  • 본 연구는 대학 엘리트 카나디언 선수들의 등속성 근기능을 검사 및 진단하여 선수들의 기능 향상 및 상해예방을 위한 훈련 방법론에 대한 조언을 하고자 함에 목적이 있다. 경주 소재 D 대학의 평균 8.5년의 경력을 가진 8명의 엘리트 선수들이 실험에 참가했으며, Biodex system III, Biodex stabilizer system, THP 2, Inbody 720이 근기능 검사(peak torque, average power, work fatigue), 동적 균형 검사, 신체성분 검사를 위해 사용되었다. 등속성 근기능 검사는 어깨와 허리, 무릎 관절에 대하여 실시하였으며, 측정 후 동측 불균형과 좌 우측 불균형 정도를 평가하였다. 검사 결과 A3, A4, A5, A6, A8 선수는 어깨의 근력과 파워 훈련이, A1, A2, A7, A8 선수는 어깨의 근지구력 훈련이 필요한 것으로 평가되었다. A2, A5, A8 선수는 허리의 근력과 파워 강화 훈련이 필요하였고, A1, A8 선수는 허리의 근지구력 강화 훈련이 필요하였다. 대부분의 선수들은 무릎과 허리의 동측 근력비가 정상적이지 못했는데, 이의 개선을 위해 A2, A3, A4, A8 선수는 복근의 강화가 필요했고 A3, A5, A6, A7, A8 선수는 햄스트링의 강화가 요구되었다. 선수들의 BMI 평균은 24.90 $kg/m^2$, 체지방율은 12.23%, 반응시간 평균은 324 msec, 밸런스 점수는 각각 2.0 미만으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 카나디언 엘리트 선수들은 근력 불균형에 의한 경기력 저하와 상해 잠재 위험성이 있으므로 정기적인 근기능 검사를 통한 관리와 함께 적절한 훈련 처방이 필요할 것이라 생각된다.

Effect of stocking density and alpha-lipoic acid on the growth performance, physiological and oxidative stress and immune response of broilers

  • Objective: The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of stocking density and alphalipoic acid (ALA) on the growth performance, feed utilization, carcass traits, antioxidative ability and immune response of broilers. Methods: A total of 1,530 22-day-old male broilers (Arbor Acres) with comparable body weights ($731.92{\pm}5.26$) were placed into 18 cages ($2.46{\times}2.02m$) in groups of 75 birds ($15birds/m^2$, $37.5kg/m^2$; low stocking density [LD]), 90 birds ($18birds/m^2$, $45.0kg/m^2$; high stocking density [HD]) and 90 birds with 300 mg/kg ALA added to the basal diet ($18birds/m^2$, $45.0kg/m^2$; HD+ALA, high stocking density+${\alpha}$-lipoic acid); each treatment was represented by 6 replicates. The experimental period was 3 weeks. Results: The results showed that the high stocking density regimen resulted in a decreased growth, feed conversion ratio, carcass weight, thigh yield and bursa weight relative to body weight (p<0.05) on d 42. The abdominal fat yield in the HD+ALA group was lower (p = 0.031) than that of the LD group at 42 d. The superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities in serum were increased, and malondialdehyde content decreased after adding ALA product (p<0.05) on d 42. Additionally, the serum concentrations of immunoglobulin A (IgA) and IgG were decreased (p<0.05) and the level of diamine oxidase was higher (p<0.01) in the HD group on d 42. Conclusion: The high stocking density significantly decreased broiler growth performance, feed utilization and carcass traits, increased physiological and oxidative stress and induced intestinal mucosal injury. The supplementation of ALA product in broiler diet at 300 mg/kg may reduce the adverse effects of high stocking density-mediated stress by maintaining the antioxidant system and humoral immune system.
